Re: Ys X: Proud Nordics Allows Switch Players To Transfer "Clear Data" To Switch 2

Tyranexx

I'm glad you can at least transfer clear data. Hopefully that means at least how they normally handle New Game + files....Though it would be nice if you could move over full progress as well.

@ShieldHero Technically two years; the original Ys X: Nordics launched in Japan in September 2023. Most other territories got it late last year. Falcom has become much better at coordinating worldwide releases lately, but more with the Trails series. They're kind of pulling a Game Freak approach (pre-DLC) or an Atlus with this one.

Falcom is no stranger to remakes and rereleases of their Ys games, but there's typically a much longer gap. I think I was on Chapter 2 or 3 of Ys X: Nordics after it released here when they announced Proud Nordics. Even knowing the advice context, it was a very unpleasant surprise. I'm not against it; it's just too soon IMO. If they do release this game worldwide, I suspect it'll come sometime next year. If I ever do pick it up, it'll be years down the line and likely on a different platform if the publisher wants to stick with the GKC route.

Re: Atari To Acquire 'SteamWorld' Dev Thunderful

Tyranexx

I'd much rather Atari acquire Thunderful over Microsoft or (shudders) Embracer. I quite enjoy the SteamWorld universe, though I'll admit their most recent release I've played is SteamWorld Dig 2 since I enjoy Metroidvanias so much. And I have tried the SteamWorld Build PC demo. I typically wait for the games to come down in price since they go on sale every so often. Nearly jumped on SteamWorld Quest for Switch recently until I saw it's been lower before.

Re: Review: Pokémon Friends (Switch) – Pretty Plushies, Puzzling Pricing

Tyranexx

I'm glad the puzzles gradually increase in difficulty. I downloaded the mobile version on Android - not paying for what should have been at least a free-to-start game on Switch - and have found it ridiculously easy so far. It seems the Professor Layton series has spoiled me. It's cute but shallow so far.

I realize mobile games are likely easier to churn out and can reach a wider audience, and some of the mobile Pokemon spinoffs are decent. But I'd love to see another good console spinoff before long. I'd buy a Pokemon Conquest port or sequel day one and am looking forward to eventually playing Pokemon Colosseum/XD: Gale of Darkness on Switch 2 NSO+ eventually.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (26th July)

Tyranexx

Apparently Catching Some Zs was on my gaming list; I slept in longer than I normally do today. Granted, this is my last full lazy Saturday for awhile, so I may as well rest. My Sundays are some degree of busy anymore.

  • Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (Switch) - Wrapped up Chapter 4 during my last session and picked up my fourth party member - who's unique, to say the least. It seems as though Balduq Prison always yields more questions than answers while exploring. I'm currently doing side quests and trying to unlock more of Balduq before advancing the story in Chapter 5.
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - Well, it turns out Peach was already kidnapped by Bowser right under Toadworth's nose, so the Bros. are now working on reviving the Zeekeper in order to reach Bowser/Antasma's flying fortress. Not looking forward to an upcoming fight since I've heard it infamously doesn't cooperate with the 3DS gyro controls....This game would be more enjoyable without the filler and gimmicky giant battles IMO.

Happy gaming!

Re: The New Pokémon Theme Park Is Looking Rather Lovely

Tyranexx

At first, I honestly thought this was gonna be a claymation-like PokèPark game that synced nicely with that section of the presentation, but I'm happy to be wrong. As a theme park fan, this looks really cool even if it's on the more chill side than what I typically prefer.

Hopefully if this is successful, they'll consider it for other real-world Pokemon region equivalents.

Re: New Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trailer Finally Gives Dragonite The Love He Deserves

Tyranexx

The Pokemon Legends: Z-A info drop and the Aardman tease were definitely the presentation highlights for me. Even if I think Mega Dragonite could have went in a cooler direction. It's possible its design will grow on me like DK's DKB redesign.

I'd throw that Pokemon theme park onto the list if I thought we had a chance to see a version of it outside of Japan.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (19th July)

Tyranexx

@CammyUnofficial I will say there are a few QoL improvements in 2 that made going back to 1 mildly annoying at times, and in some ways it can feel more like a proof of concept in comparison. But I really enjoyed playing as Rusty again, revisiting Tumbleton and its characters, and the nostalgic rush of picking up a game that made a significant impact on me when I first played it on 3DS almost a decade ago. I still think SteamWorld Dig is worth a try even if I do agree 2 runs circles around it lol. Have a great weekend!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (19th July)

Tyranexx

@CammyUnofficial I love SteamWorld Dig 2! It's one of my favorite Metroidvanias. I've played it three times, twice on Switch and once on PC/Steam. I hadn't revisited SteamWorld Dig for years - last played it on the Wii U - and decided to take the opportunity since it was briefly free on Steam. Dig 2 is superior in nearly every way, but the first game has aged fairly well IMO. The gameplay loop in both games is quite addictive.

@MarioVillager92 I hope you're enjoying Mario Kart World! Love your new profile pic of Toad in train gear.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (19th July)

Tyranexx

Good grief, you guys have been busy in here today. There's usually something like 55-70 comments when I wake up. These articles go up at 4 AM in my time zone, so there's no way I'm getting an early start on my only guaranteed weekly sleep-in day. XD

  • Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (Switch) - Currently in Chapter 3. Balduq is really starting to open up exploration-wise; it feels like the game throws more systems at the player at once vs. how Ys VIII gradually eases players into them. I like the Monstrum angle in this game; it's akin to playing as superheroes protecting the city from a threat invisible to the normies. I'm starting to understand some of the performance complaints with the Switch version, but the frame drops haven't dampened my enjoyment.
  • SteamWorld Dig (PC) - Finished this last night! I found all secrets and obtained all upgrades. A nice, short Metroidvania.
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - Didn't play it at all this week; I decided to take a break from the game to focus on the above. Back in the saddle this morning and continuing our favorite duo's adventures in Driftwood Shore.

There is a Quaxly Community Day in Pokemon Go tomorrow, but I'm skipping it. I'll be at a show most of the time period it runs, plus it's tied with Chespin as my least favorite starter.

Happy gaming!

Re: Review: Shadow Labyrinth - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Sometimes 'Good Enough' Is Just That

Tyranexx

@HingryHuppo Interesting....In that case, I might give Hollow Knight a chance when it's on sale and my backlog is less robust. I found Raven Beak in Dread tough but fair on Normal difficulty. He's arguably the hardest final boss I've dealt with in a Metroid game, and I've played almost all of them (I've heard GCN Prime 2 is supposedly harder; I've only played the Wii version via MPT). I nearly dropped Shovel Knight due to Tinker Knight's stage in the third area - the first one I tackled - but found the others manageable. I haven't played the other Shovel Knight games and expansions however.

I appreciate the feedback!

Re: Review: Shadow Labyrinth - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Sometimes 'Good Enough' Is Just That

Tyranexx

I'm still quite interested in this game since it's a different, darker take on a classic video game character. Hopefully it isn't as difficult as Hollow Knight, which is one I've skipped due to what I've seen/read about it. I like challenging gameplay at times, but I certainly have a threshold as well. A good gauge of my limits are some levels from Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope and the final boss of Metroid Dread. I did finish both games.

In any case, this isn't a day one buy, but I'll get it somewhere down the line.

Re: Nintendo Announces First Cast Members For The Legend Of Zelda Movie

Tyranexx

I'm glad these two are relative unknowns; less unreasonable pressure and "I can't unsee X character" moments. They seem promising from some of the comments more in the know. Zelda seems on point, and I'm sure wigs, hair dye, and other effects can be used to make "Link" appear closer to the version many of us are familiar with.

As for this movie....I'm keeping an eye on it and am trying to keep an open mind. But I really do think it would have worked better as a 2D animated feature.

Re: Here's What Donkey Kong Bananza Looked Like On Switch 1

Tyranexx

I enjoy reading and watching behind-the-scenes dev stuff like this. As much as I selfishly wish this game was a dual release since I'll be rocking a Switch 1 for awhile, it's very understandable why they moved development to the Switch 2. More power clearly helps, especially when it comes to rendering all those extra pixels.

This game will be a Day One Tyranexx Switch 2 companion.

Re: Ys X: Proud Nordics Reportedly Includes 120fps Performance Mode On Switch 2

Tyranexx

@Antraxx777 Right, I realize that Japan got Ys X a lot earlier. It's more the fact that, historically, Falcom has waited for a different console or way later date to do something like this. For example, Ys VIII was originally released on the Vita, a significant gap between the original and the modern release on multiple platforms. Same with Ys: The Oath In Felghana (PSP originally, I think?) and its recent Ys Memoire remaster. Which is technically a remake already. Or even Memories of Celceta, which serves as a definite/canon version of all the different Ys IV versions.

Tl;Dr - Yes, Falcom is no stranger to pulling an Atlus or Game Freak when it comes to "enhanced" releases. But they've historically waited longer before doing so.
