I don't think it would be called an action-adventure game, since it doesn't have a lot of exploration like The Legend of Zelda. But since the game focuses on Peach using her transformation attack to interact with the stages environment and the level design feels linear, I would call it a action game, but more lighter on the action.

@Rykdrew Illusion Island is way to easy because it was catered to young players and their families to enjoy the game without having a fuss. I just learned that before buying it which was a mistake of mine. That is why I traded it for another game at Gamestop. Other people may enjoy it which if fine, but I want a game that's enjoyable and provides a challenge without it being too frustrating.

As for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the game may be simple and easy but some of the levels can put your platforming skills to the test, especially in the later levels.
