Re: Multiple Switch Games Have Received Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

TopazLink

@Ryo_Hazuki Same! Even the regular Switch version needs patching, honestly.

1 Minute Covers Challenge scoreboard caps out at 999, despite it being possible to get way more than that. Endless Covers Challenge always crashes if you survive for too long, so it won't save the score you had.

And I wish you could choose your costume in combat, they have different outfits and such in some cutscenes, and probably in the actual anime too, so let me use them! And Digital Figure mode is slow, unstable, and overly restrictive.

There's probably other stuff too, like the game crashing in a cutscene and in Digital Figure Mode, but it's been a long time since I played it.

@Spider-Kev The only common Blade I really "used" (in combat) was the one you get for free. I only used other commons for Skills, Merc Missions and anything that specifically made me use them. I got every Rare in my first playthrough (except the NG+ exclusives), and S ranked their Affinity charts before starting NG+.

I did also get the NG+ Blades and S ranked theirs too. But I didn't bother going all the way to S+ with every single Rare, that's too much for me, but a couple did get that far.

You do get to use Pneuma in combat, I used her plenty, as long as the Party Gauge is full. You just can't equip her as you would any other Rare Blade.

I did also run into the occasional bug where a Party member in combat would get stuck repeating the first few frames of their auto attack animation, so they couldn't actually do anything, but they did usually break out of it.

@Spider-Kev
1. Improving the Trust system would definitely be nice, more tasks should count for that, like having them equipped should give some amount of points over time.
2. If they do that, then they should also put a cap on Field Skill triggers, so it stops counting after the required amount is reached. I know you can "skip" them, but it would be silly if it just kept going on and on, like it does for Salvaging.
3. That would be nice too, and like I've listed in my other post, Collection point skills should be skippable. As it can be tiresome having to wait for them to play out every time, while not being allowed to move until the last voice line has finished.

I played through this twice not long ago. A normal new game, and then NG+. I enjoyed it a lot, but it could do with some updates:

1. Items spawning or falling off ledges/bouncing away down slopes
2. Sometimes having to press A multiple times for interact prompts to work
3. Reloading because your party members refused to revive you for too long in battle, even though you had enough Party Gauge
4. A skip option for skill animations, for Collection Points/Salvaging, like we sorta can with other Field Skill checks
5. Later in the story, it gets annoying juggling Blades around that the game says can't be disengaged, when they actually can. And let us disengage Blades in the top slot
6. Put the Merc Missions icon on the map, so we can see when new ones are available, or do something that makes new Quests/Merc Missions much more obvious
7. Make it clearer when staying at inns can trigger heart-to-hearts with the main party, and a way to tell how to trigger already completed Blade HTH/Quests in NG+, in case you want to re-do them
8. In NG+, for some reason some Blade Quests cut out a middle section if you’ve already done them in your previous playthrough
9. Certain actions cannot be repeated in NG+, like some NPCs with a trophy icon
10. Faster/easier Blade sorting/management, in normal gameplay and for Merc Missions
11. A faster way to change the weather, waiting naturally or skipping between Titans multiple times can be tedious
12. Sometimes when loading a stage in Tiger! Tiger! you can't attack diagonally
13. Tiger! Tiger! could do with a restart/select level option when pressing start, and after completing a stage, so it doesn't boot you out of it all the time
14. Option to choose exactly what music plays in UM fights (after acquiring specific Blades), and an option for it to be random
15. Options to turn off parts of the UI, so you can run around and admire the scenery without the UI elements
16. Maybe in NG+, let us just equip practically any Blade to any Driver, as Overdrive Protocols seem unnecessary at that point
17. Please don't mess with the art-style or Blade designs, people joke about them, but I’d rather they stay as they are
18. More in-game info in general, and maybe a way to track enemies, drops, npcs, and items, etc. So I don’t keep checking the wikis all the time!

Re: "Jill / Chris Would Be More Befitting" - Resident Evil's Obsession With Lady D. Is Getting Fans Riled Up

TopazLink

They really messed up by not giving her a bigger role in the story of RE8. Considering the game is about getting Ethan's daughter back, having a character like Lady D who can't have children, but gets three weird bug children to raise from experiments, (who she raises as her daughters) you'd think Ethan and Lady D would have more to talk about.

There could have been conflict and revelations about the nature of their children, and of Ethan's and Lady D's conditions. Especially how Lady D's daughters aren't actually hers, (they're reanimated corpses, hint hint) and potentially cause her to turn against Miranda to help Ethan get his actual daughter back.

That's what I thought they were gonna do, but then they randomly turned her into a cackling, RE6-style flesh monster boss and that was the end of that...

Re: Croc's Switch Remaster Returns This Week With A Free 'Platinum Edition' Update

TopazLink

There's maybe a couple of UI things that I hope they can implement in the future.

In the PS1 version (which is the one I grew up with), when you collect a coloured gem, the icon that appears at the top of the screen was animated! But it seems in the PC version, and the remaster, it's just a static image.

And the numbers were a different colour too, though those are just small nitpicks! But I haven't actually got around to buying this yet, too many games on the backlog!

Re: "It Was A Bit Of A Perplexing Experience" - Hideki Kamiya On The Fan Reaction To Bayonetta 3

TopazLink

The first is great and with an interesting story and world, but I'm bad at it. The second is easier and fun but with a worse story. The third is a mess. It's like they forgot to put the story in the story.

I liked Viola, but didn't like playing as her. I was hoping Luka would have some character development and would be a lot more competent by now. The bad guy was absolutely terrible. And with the sorta multiverse angle, I would have expected to unlock more of the weapons and outfits from the first two games but nope. Doing the Bewitchments is literally pointless as they don't unlock anything. There's so many strange story and gameplay decisions that I don't even know where to start...

Bayonetta Origins on the other hand is a really good game and more people should play it!

Re: Mario Kart World Doesn't Include A 200cc Difficulty Mode

TopazLink

I've been playing on 200cc almost exclusively for a long time now (except for when I finally beat all the staff ghosts at 150cc, and the Booster Course in Grand Prix mode), so everything else feels too slow to me, I still mess up a bit, but it's so much fun blasting around the tracks at high speed!

You never have to let go of accelerate, and until I did the time trials, I even used auto-accelerate (time trials don't allow it). You have to re-learn some tracks because of that speed and it's all about learning to brake while drifting.

Re: 'The World Ends With You' Director Leaves Square Enix After 29 Years

TopazLink

Twewy is one of my favourite games of all time. I'm ashamed to admit that I pirated it on DS when flashcards were a big thing, the cover art and the title screen music really grabbed me and I've never looked back. The characters, the story, the music!

I did correct that initial mistake by getting both Final Remix and the sequel, NEO Twewy, on Switch all those years after, and completing both 100% including mastering every pin, getting every item etc.

It was also cool seeing Neku and the crew turn up in Dream Drop Distance, and I strongly believe that Twewy could (or should) be very important to Kingdom Hearts 4's story. Quadratum is basically Shibuya, which is where Twewy is set. It even has Twewy's 104 building, where the real-life version is called 109.

The style of Sora's KH4 clothes also closely matches the NEO Twewy crew and Riku seems to be in Shinjuku, which was important to NEO's story. Twewy also deals with death in a very unusual way, and has pulled the "this isn't what I really look like" thing before.

But with the director of Twewy gone, I don't know anymore...

Re: ICYMI: 12 Switch Games Will Receive Free Switch 2 Upgrades

TopazLink

I hope that means they've fixed the frame drops in Link's Awakening, they were really bugging me when I played it.

Age of Calamity could do with an upgrade too, probably all the Warriors games would benefit from more stable resolution and framerates!

Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory has some frame drops as well, they're not terrible, but a little jarring on a couple of songs when trying to hit the notes on time.

Re: One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 Is Getting New DLC, Will Be Decided By Fan Votes

TopazLink

My only experience of One Piece is from Pirate Warriors 3, which I enjoyed! People more familiar will know just how much they had to cut from the story for the game though. I was a bit disappointed that you can't play as some of the characters that the CPU can control, especially after playing both Hyrule Warriors games.

I did buy Pirate Warriors 4 ages ago on sale too, when I didn't realise it was still getting new content. There's so much more DLC now and I haven't even started the game yet...

Re: Opinion: We Need More Couch Co-op RPGs

TopazLink

"The World Ends With You" on Switch has a co-op mode for combat. I enjoyed playing through the story again with my younger brother, that game is very special to me.

The sequel is great too, but doesn't have co-op, but I guess that's understandable with how they changed things. I bet they could've come up with a solution though, it would've been a lot of fun.

Re: Feature: Everything You Missed In The Switch 2 Mario Kart Reveal - Characters, Features, Easter Eggs

TopazLink

Pauline from day one, let's gooo!
Seeing those neat nods to older games, with the fonts and the kart designs is really cool. As well as more in-universe things like the Yoshi's burger joint.
Something I did wonder though is that if this is a launch title, will it be constantly updated with new content over the course of the system's lifespan?
If so, what the pricing structure would be.

Re: Catly Developer Says Game Does Not Use Generative AI, Blockchain Tech, Or NFTs

TopazLink

Their name doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but it doesn't look AI to me. I just feel like AI has poisoned people's minds, now whenever people see something they don't like, they just say "ew AI" and such, even if it clearly isn't. I could very well be wrong about this one, but it requires further investigation instead of knee-jerk reactions and just deciding to take one side or the other's word for it without proper evidence.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Top 5 Nintendo DS Games?

TopazLink

"The World Ends with You" is one of my favourite games of all time. The pin evolution mechanic though, if you want to 100% it, requires 2 DS's, I think? The Switch version having multiplayer was amazing, as it meant I got to experience the story all over again with my younger brother.

I wanna give a special shotout to games that might not get mentioned otherwise, like the Bomberland Touch games, had a lot of fun playing those with my sister alongside Mario Party DS.

As well as Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, my first ever KH game! Was always disappointed that it never got the "Re:" treatment later. Re:Coded also has really fun gameplay.

Re: Bayonetta Character Designer Celebrates Series' 15th Anniversary With New Art

TopazLink

3's story could've worked, if they actually put the story into the game. It's a baffling mess that needed to be made clearer and the tone of the cutscenes is all over the place.

Some long cutscenes that cannot be skipped because there's a button press or something part way through and they didn't break it up properly.

Severe lack of outfits, you'd think they would bring back all of them from 1&2 'cos of the story, but no.

The Handguns can't be upgraded, which means their moveset is much smaller than in 1&2. I'm also surprised they still haven't figured out a way to let you switch between more weapons on the fly.

I liked Viola as a character, but I didn't enjoy playing as her much. If they deleted her moveset and control layout and basically replaced it with Raiden's from MGR, with some tweaks, I would've been much happier.

Can't play as the other characters when replaying chapters and no playable Rosa. You know, I wish 2 let you play as Balder and Rodin when replaying story chapters, just have it auto-skip cutscenes or just leave them, it'd be funny.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Fans Are Once Again Discussing The Game's 'Censorship'

TopazLink

Not this again... I'm 30 years old, I'm well aware that women come in all shapes and sizes (as do men). Why did they even have a breast slider in the original Japanese version if it gets removed in every version after that? It's such an absurd thing to delete from a game, what purpose does that actually serve?

It's obviously not for inclusion, because removing an option is inherently exclusive. People are also attracted to all sorts of things, so it's irritating that breasts keep getting singled out, it's not a good precedent to be setting and unnecessarily demonises a large part of the population.

Re: Switch System Update 19.0.0 Is Apparently Causing Some Issues

TopazLink

Noticed recently that my Switch will turn itself off when it's supposedly at 30% battery in handheld. No warnings, no saying that the console battery is low, just suddenly the screen goes black with the low battery icon, then turns off.

I thought the battery was on its way out, or the system wasn't reporting the battery percentage properly, so maybe the battery was lower than what it was saying.

Re: Video: Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered "Monstrous Boss" Reveals

@wiiware Unfortunately, American McGee's Alice is owned by EA. They turned American McGee down when he tried so hard to get the third game (Alice Asylum) approved, even after he basically created an instruction manual on how to make it.

He then left the gaming industry altogether after that. They gave the lamest, most generic response too... If you haven't already, look up "Alice Asylum design bible".

Re: Random: It Looks Like Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow's 'Julius Mode' Is Even Harder On Switch

TopazLink

I heard about this on Steam. I wonder why it's different?

I also wonder if they'll address the errors in the text? If you watch a playthrough of the original DS versions, some of the text is different and now some lines have mistakes in them, what's that all about?

I haven't bought the collection yet, I'm waiting to see if the text gets patched, I would also like to see motion control options for some of the touchscreen stuff when playing docked.

Re: 'Castlevania Dominus Collection' Brings Three DS Classics To Switch Today

TopazLink

@ChromaticDracula Good to know that touchscreen stuff works in handheld mode! I wonder though if they could've added motion control for playing docked, seems like it might be awkward using an analogue stick controlled pointer for Sisters Mode and Albus, but we'll see.

I also have some answers of my own from Steam users, the Mina Doll is always there in Dawn of Sorrow and the Birthday Cake in Portrait of Ruin has been renamed "Sunday cake", presumably it appears in the shop every real-life sunday.

Re: 'Castlevania Dominus Collection' Brings Three DS Classics To Switch Today

TopazLink

Finally! But I need more information!

1. Sisters Mode in Portrait of Ruin, the original used the touchscreen for their attacks, what are they like to play as?
2. Albus in Order of Ecclesia, the original used the touchscreen to let him teleport around the screen with ease, how does that work now? Is it more cumbersome?
3. The "Birthday Cake" item in Portrait of Ruin, it was required to get all the items, but only appeared in Vincent's shop on your birthday, can you still get it somehow?
4. Mina Doll in Dawn of Sorrow, when playing Dawn of Sorrow on DS, with Aria of Sorrow in the GBA slot, a doll would appear in the background of Yoko's shop, is there a new way to trigger this?
5. Apparently for some reason they've rewritten or re-translated some lines? But they've introduced errors by doing so, both in the new lines and in lines that weren't changed. I've seen a screenshot that shows at least one double space where there wasn't one before.

Re: Review: Trinity Fusion (Switch) - A Roguelite Fusion Of Ideas That’s Worth Your Time

TopazLink

The demo for this game is a little broken.

I got to the part where I guess it expects you to die for the first time and I did, it played a cutscene but then crashed on the loading screen after that. I went back in and loaded the save, the file I made was there, but I guess it hadn't saved anything so I was back at the start. Skipped the opening cutscene dialog by mashing b, but then it crashed on the loading screen.

Opened the demo again, got past the loading screen but now the whole thing was broken, my health was some bugged value, and I could only move, block, jump and dash. Couldn't attack, enemies wouldn't attack me, couldn't use the healing item, couldn't enter the menu.

I closed the demo through the home menu and tried again, I had to start a new file to fix it.
