Re: Your Prayers Have Been Answered, Hori Is Making A Joy-Con With A Proper D-Pad

ToneDeath

I'm still hoping for Nintendo themselves to make a proper d-pad joy-con set (with SF/Euro SNES colours) but this is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for as a cheap alternative. It'll hopefully make playing 2D platformers and the like more comfortable, as if the Switch were a massive GBA

Curious to see what the Switch actually reads this as though; does it mimic an existing Joy-con L? Unless things changed since I last checked, I think that for a pair of Joy-con to work together they both need to be either attached or detached from the console, so presumably this Hori one will have to read as an actual Joy-con L; if it even has an icon with the correct colour I'll be super-optimistic about Hori's collaborating with Nintendo on Switch products in future.

Re: KORG Gadget is Coming to the Switch in Spring 2018

ToneDeath

I'll be happy if I get another MS-10 and Kaoss pad combo to play around with. I'm nowhere near a musician but I had a lot of fun making little loops and whatnot.
After owning Korg's first DS title for about an hour I put this little cacophony on YouTube, hurriedly combined with footage from the Internet Archive using Windows Movie Maker. Yep, that was almost a decade ago now...

Re: Soapbox: Seriously Nintendo, It's Time For A Switch Joy-Con With A Proper D-Pad

ToneDeath

Let's have a 'Classic controller grip' base set that comes with d-pad Joycons (preferably with SF/PAL SNES styling). The bluetooth and battery would be in the grip itself, allowing for cheaper joycons that could later be released separately to tie-in with Virtual Console platforms (Mega Drive, N64 etc). The only downsides being they have to be attached to the specific grip or the Switch itself, and the pre-N64 Joycon may lack even basic rumble as a further cost-cutting measure. Oh, and no amiibo scanning either.

Re: The Next Wave Of ACA Neo Geo Titles For Switch Is Confirmed

ToneDeath

Tiny bit tempted by Zed Blade, if only because the music for the opening level reminds my of early Prodigy; then again I could just play Last Resort or Blazing Star whilst listening to the Experienced album.

Nothing for me here then, and I shouldn't hold my breath for Neo Drift Out or Puzzle Bobble. Roll on The Last Blade...

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd August (Europe)

ToneDeath

@TossedLlama Cheers. Seems like you can't go wrong with either, but like with KoF '98 and Samurai Shodown 2, there's a popular consensus as to which is best.

I still like to try old games that are new to me, but I'm trying to be more selective than I was during the Wii years.

Re: Zen Studios Praises Switch and Confirms Work on More Games for the System

ToneDeath

I know we're probably trying to get away from having too many plastic accessories lying around, but who else would buy a pinball joycon that doubles as a play-stand to hold the Switch at an angle and position that resembles an actual table, and has buttons on the sides and even a little plunger at the front. Overkill maybe, but fun if you've got Zen and/or Pinball Arcade.

EDIT: Seems the same thing's been done for iPads before...

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

ToneDeath

The first Splatoon felt like a bit of an experiment, so I could forgive the way it was setup to be played online. This sequel had the opportunity to give us more customisation and options for multiplayer (on or offline), to put it in the same league as Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros.
Instead we're once again dictated to by servers and schedules. It'll be a fun time while it lasts, but if they can just find a way to give it that extra push off the cliff, maybe we can go all the way to 11/10.

Re: Sports Direct Buys 25.75 Percent Stake In Embattled UK Retail Chain GAME

ToneDeath

I wonder if a shop that specialised in Nintendo games and merchandise could cope well. I like @AlexOlney 's idea of an Argos setup that could give more space to actually enjoying the games.; demo units, some tables for snacks, drinks and multiplayer...and how about a videogame music jukebox? There should be events like tournaments and competions every month that keep the community involved too...and here's a novel idea: treat the staff with respect! Make it a job worth having.

Re: Tingle Shocked Zelda: Breath of the Wild Designer Right Down To His Bones

ToneDeath

Shame they couldn't use HD rumble to give you a 'tingle' when you're near rupees or something. Oh well, I guess the Stone of Agony will be back in some form in the future though.

Also, is there anything in video games darker than The Wind Waker where Tingle had slaves with their faces surgically altered to resemble his own, forced to turn a totem in his image for eternity?

Re: The Pokémon Company Posts Net Profit 26 Times Bigger Than Last Year

ToneDeath

Another money printer would be a Breath of the Wild inspired Pokemon adventure for the Switch. I'd suggest also including a sort of Pokemon Stadium mode (that could be available as a separate eshop download too) that lets you import monsters from your Pokemon bank as well as those you've caught in Pokemon Go. Something like this could be a good way to get an extra group of people looking into the Switch.

Re: Check Out the HORI Real Arcade Pro V Fight Stick for Switch

ToneDeath

A smaller arcade stick that could be attached to the Switch to form a sort of bar top arcade cabinet could be fun.

How about some kind of dongle/adapter that allows you to use Wii/Wii U generation classic controllers with the Switch? Then I could use the arcade stick I already own, the Club Nintendo SNES pad for virtual console games, and more thanks to certain Mayflash and Raphnet adapters. If not, I'll settle for a SNES themed joycon set with a proper d-pad.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Effortlessly Drifts Past The One Million Sold Marker After Just One Week

ToneDeath

Glad to see Deluxe doing so well, despite all the comment-section nay-saying. If it ends up being bundled with the console it could even catch up to Mario Kart Wii, as long as they keep the momentum going for other Switch releases; Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest for Japan, CoD* and Madden for the West, Smash Bros. Animal Crossing, F-Zero and Metroid for the fans, Virtual Console of course, and any main series Pokemon will help enormously, but I think a Pokemon game that takes inspiration from Breath of the Wild could be HUUUUGE!

*I'd be happy if the only Call of Duty the Switch got was a version of the original Modern Warfare; it's old but gold.

Re: Mr. Shifty Devs Tackling Frame Rate Issues After Initially Suggesting You Should Pick Steam Over Switch

ToneDeath

Perhaps it would be good practice for newer, smaller studios to have their designers and programmers actually play some games before getting too deep into creating their own. Two relevant titles that come to mind are F-Zero X and Star Wars Episode I: Racer, both for the N64. The latter game had much more detailed graphics for the time, with more complex environments, lighting and weather effects, but it's the 'uglier' F-Zero X that still impresses today with 30 racers at a time bombing along at 60 fps. Then of course there was F-Zero GX on the Gamecube, which managed to do the same thing WITH all the extra graphical bells and whistles, but the point is devs need to get their priorities straight early on; does it need to look pretty or play well, and should it make the most of a powerful PC, or run comfortably on consoles and/or mobile devices.

Re: Video: Here's Four Solid Reasons Zelda: Breath of the Wild has the Best Princess Zelda to Date

ToneDeath

If (or should I say when) a Zelda movie happens it might help if she can actually join Link on the adventure. She should be able to hold her own with a bow, some ninja-skills taught to her by Impa and maybe even a little magic. Wisdom is obviously supposed be her main trait, so using her wits to get them both out of sticky situations gives her even more to do.
She could be tempted to stay in hiding and abandon her people, which is where Link would come in, inspiring courage in her. Her wisdom could in turn possibly influence a crucial decision Link has to make at some point.
Those are just vague ideas of how Zelda could be given a more active role than usual, which could also be applied to a game if it were designed around co-op (or how about taking inspiration from GTAV and switch between the two in another open-world?).
