Re: Soapbox: A Strange Desire For Switch Sports And A Return To Wii's Wuhu Island

@pinta_vodki Yes very true, Wii MotionPlus did use gyroscope technology for its accuracy. I think it was slightly different as when calibrating the centre-point it would have you point at the sensor bar. Same basic idea as the Joy-Cons, but with Switch you don't have the same focal point (which is why I think my Joy-Con hand wanders and I re-calibrate more often).

I think the issue of the 'centre' with Joy-Cons is about what I do as a user, not the technology though

@Zeldafan79 Not yet, there was an unspecified issue that mean it's not available to buy yet, as mentioned in the note at the bottom it worked for us via a code from the publisher (so we did play through it on Switch, no worries there).

Dotemu hopes to have it up today or over the weekend, according to their social media updates.

Re: After Months Of 'Switch Pro' Rumours, Nintendo Officially Unveils The Nintendo Switch OLED Model

ThomasBW84

@rjejr The share value appears to be pretty flat so far (that could change), likely because Nintendo is doing what most expected, I think. There was no big upgrade coming this year, otherwise it would have had a showcase reveal, but Nintendo's sales projections are a little down on last year anyway.

So in all likelihood the OLED helps Nintendo hit its sales targets, which delivers the profits. Shareholders arguably don't care about much else.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

ThomasBW84

@imagazelle Hi, of course! The motion controls are very accurate, and certainly when I swung more smoothly and realistically I would have better swings in the game. Likewise it's also possible to get shots wrong if you swing badly; in other words I think they did a nice job.

You can add deliberate swerve by holding left or right on the stick as you swing, replicating the way you'd do it with the button controls. It'll need practice though, as holding the analogue stick in a specific direction while also swinging is a little unorthodox. I couldn't find a way to apply backspin and overspin in motion controls though, so it'll be more about judging distance and conventional bounce.
