We all have important gaming memories from childhood, defining moments that helped to make us 'gamers'. For this humble scribe one example was spending my parent's hard-earned money on a few choice arcades at the local sports centre. One was The Simpsons, which we'd play as a family; as the younger brother I had to play as Lisa, which still stings.
It's actually a darn good Konami beat 'em up, from the distant days gone by when the company made some of the best games out there. It had a re-release / port on Xbox 360 and PS3, but apparently it was only actually available to buy as a download on those systems for about two years. Licenses cost money, after all.
It seems like a classic that should get more love and, well, a release on Switch. While we wait for that to not happen, though, anyone with a spare $599.99 will be able to buy a replica cabinet of the game. It's the work of Arcade1Up, which does all sorts of intriguing reproductions for those with a decent chunk of disposable income.
As reported by Siliconera, the cabinet will become available later this year; it's actually 75% of the original's size 'for licensing reasons', but a riser will allow you to lift the controls up. It'll have Wi-Fi connectivity for applying updates and online multiplayer, a 'branded stool', and as a random bonus it'll have a trackball for some reason.
So there you have it. We sure won't be buying one, but the idea of doing it is certainly nice; perhaps share some of your childhood arcade memories in the comments - go on, you know you want to.

Ugh, just do the practical thing and re-release it on modern platforms for $15 and be done with it.
This is the best news I’ve heard all year. The Simpsons Arcade is amazing, it’s been really difficult to access ever since it got removed from XBLA. I can’t wait for this!
Can’t wait not to be able to buy this in the U.K. like almost any of their cabinets.
A dream come true ❤️❤️
I got this for both PS3 and XBLA, so unfortunately it's a no. I can't justify the 599 price tag when I'm still trying to secure a PS5/Series X. Now if they restock that TMNT Arcade 1Up, I would definitely bite.
Expensive arcade cabinet, or emulation? Hm.
I thought this was a port to switch and my heart stopped. But then it started again because it’s not a port
Stop everything! I don't remember writing a check for The Simpsons Bowling!
I would love to build a collection of Arcade 1UP Cabinets. If only I had the room and an understanding Mrs
Not bringing this or TMNT to the Switch seems like madness.
(camp woodward had the Simpsons arcade back in the day)
@WoomyNNYes - I suspect this novelty doesn't want to cannibalize its own market.
Cause I would (and probably will) buy this.
No way LOL. I'm sure it will be brought to switch after they have had there fun (And money) and if the market is there for the switch, who knows, maybe a remaster?
I still have this game on my Xbox 360 😁
I’d love for this to come to Switch. I only played it briefly in an arcade. Is the game in the question Simpsons vs The World?
I still have a lot of the 2 episode videos and the games on various platforms were advertised at the beginning. I think they were all on consoles.
@EVIL-C I can go play it on my SNES Classic Edition right now. . . .
;-D
@kupocake Well done!
@ThomasBW84
Just want to alert you on a typo, you put "trackerball" instead of trackball.
I remember I once played this in an arcade full King of Fighters, everyone was just watching as if to say "what the hell is he playing?" in a positive way. One of them even joined me in co-op.
We legit need a Simpsons games collection!
The Simpsons Arcade Game
Bart VS The Space Mutants (I liked the C64 version)
Bart's Nightmare
Krusty's Fun House
The Simpson's Road Rage
The Simpsons Hit and Run
Imagine! I know there have been other Simpsons games like Virtual Bart but I've not played them and don't know whether they're any good. I loved The Simpsons Cartoon Studio on the PC from 1996 too!
Is it me, or are a lot of licensed games getting a dusting this this last couple of years. They just need to make the jump to consoles.
Makes you wonder what in the license prevents it from being full size…
I loved this game as a kid, sure brings back memories
I’d really love a port. Or honestly a proper remaster done by DotEmu!
If 1up can get the licence, pretty sure Konami could afford it.
"...it's actually 75% of the original's size 'for licensing reasons..."
Eh?
@Sinton
I believe they're technically licensed as toys because they're just small enough to fit in the same category as the tabletops and tiny arcades that you see at the same retailers, resulting in a lower licensing fee.
Also can't have the boxes these come in be too large for the retailers and take up too much space on their shelves.
@kupocake
That’s Simpsons Boweling, sir......
Release this game on Switch and PC please. Nobody cares about fake arcade cabinets anymore. Most people like me just want a physical home version for our consoles.
@Toy_Link - That makes sense, but aren’t these 1Up cabinets usually approximately half the size of the original cabinet? That would make this 3/4 model bigger than average.
Konami should release a Simpsons/X-Men pack for the Switch with these two games. Seriously, that would sell much better than fake arcade cabinets that just take up a lot of space.
So it's an obtainable license, huh? You hear that, Konami?
@Gerald I get you!
I want a room of Arcade Cabinets, she wants another kid, life isn't fair...
We need a Bob's Burgers video game. Cartoons don't get the licensing/exposure anymore they once did during the Simpsons heyday where they were in toys, video games, even charting pop songs.
So we get eighty bajillion renditions of metal slug, for the switch, yet can't get this game or xmen or sunset riders or punisher or aliens vs predator or..
@PhhhCough Sunset Riders is on Switch.
I wish this would come to Switch. I remember this game received very high praise when I was a kid, but I never had any quarters to try it myself 😕
@BanjoPickles Oh, yes. That's very important.
I was lucky enough to snag this on the 360 some years ago.
Konami Licensed B'mups collection - the Turtles duology, Bucky O'Hare, Moo Mesa, Simpsons, Asterix, Batman Returns, and X-Men. It'd be licensing hell but worth it 100%.
At least Zombies Ate My Neighbors is coming to the Switch this month (a Konami game created by LucasArts).
Neat to see. I really like Arcade1Up but I don’t have the living space for full-sized arcade machines. I bought the 40th Anniversary Pac-Man countercade last year and I may have just pre-ordered the 40th Anniversary Ms. Pac-Man countercade as well...
Licensing issues will keep many Konami/Capcom arcade games from ever seeing the light of day again unfortunately. I'm happy we're getting that TMNT game soon on the Switch which in a lot of ways is a remaster of the arcade game.
This is the one I’ve wanted the most and ugh not affording it at that price. I hope in a year or two I can find it half price at COSTCO and then beg my wife to buy it for me for a holiday or birthday lmao cross my fingers!
Supporting the original four player controls is very nice!
I was just telling my wife we should turn part of our basement into an arcade. She didn't say no.
Now this is announced. Coincidence? I don't think so. More like destiny. She can't say no to that right?
Arcade 1up comes out of nowhere and puts Hamster Arcade Archives to shame. Clearly licenses are available but you have to find the right pricing structure. I wish Hamster arhat a premium line of games.
I can’t ever see myself paying more than $150 for one of these. Unless licensing fees are in the tens of millions, there is absolutely no justifiable reason these should cost anywhere close to as much as they do. The parts needed to DIY one at home can be obtained for about $50 to $60.
@MyNameIsRandy Just order it now and tell your wife it’s taken care of.
@ThomasBW84 The arcade I played at as a kid had a perpetually broken Lisa coin slot, so it was effectively a 3-player version. Tricked out of a token more than once.
I think the licensing was even shorter than stated. I recall it was released in 2012. I got a PS3 super-slim early in 2014, and The Simpsons was one of the first things I tried to buy and it was already delisted.
I've got 8 cabinets (NBA JAM, TMNT, Golden Tee, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Ms. Pacman, Marvel Pinball, Outrun and Big Buck Hunter). They may be pretty expensive, but I love the heck our of them. Still, the 4 player cabinets take up a lot of room, and I only have room for 2 or 3 more. Plus, i only need one beat em up cab (TMNT), so the Simpsons is out. I'll just patiently wait for NFL Blitz, a Robotron/Smash TV mashup, and Silver Strike Bowling instead.
I replayed on PS3 after hadn't played it for so many years. Its gets old fast. Cool looking can though
@GregamanX
I have the Pacman plus cabinet and I love it but the emulation is a bit aggravating especially on Galaga but still for the money you cannot beat it.
@kupocake remember that time you didn't do it?
@Zidentia I've never heard of the pacman plus cabinet. Do you mean the namco legacy cabinet, or the pacman 40th anniversary one?
@GregamanX
It is technically called the Pacman 8 in 1 and you cannot find it now. It was only available at Christmas time and sold out quickly. I also picked up the stool to match. None of the cabinets out there now match the graphics.
If wi-fi gets added, it needs airplane mode or some other means to turn off while not using. I won't be buying I think.
@Zidentia very cool. Nice little rare find there!
@EVIL-C This man (or gal) right here. Voice of reason.
I would still be upset about the TMNT Arcade but we are getting a new one so I don't care now (a compilation would be nice). Also, when are we getting a Marvel Vs Cacom game for the Switch?
@Andee Yes, that was unpleasant for all concerned.
@MyNameIsRandy But $600 bucks for a 15 to 30 minute game?
@sixrings I think arcade archives has some really good games on it (Burgertime, Frogger, all the Nintendo arcade titles, Moon Patrol, etc.), but I do wish they would fork over the money for some other companies outside of Taito/Tecmo/Konami/Irem. We've had zero Midway/Williams/Atari Games titles come to the Switch and WB Games seems to have zero interest in porting over a collection, so why not make a deal with them and release some of those titles? Sega ended Sega Ages, so talk to them about getting games like Pengo and Zaxxon over. Qbert might be more trickey since Sony owns the rights, but it's not like they are doing anything with it for PlayStation.
@BloodNinja The physical or digital debate continues...
@Ghost_of_Hasashi I've seen lots of people care around the holidays, I work in retail. Tons of store pickups and deliveries for these things. Even now, when there are new cabinets released, they tend to sell out.
@Savino It's the less popular opinion, but I agree. The game really drags in the second half and enemy attack variety is lacking. I find myself checking out by the time I reach Moe's Tavern. Even the gimmicks dry up after the zombie stage.
@Hordak Because, convenience.
@GregamanX How are those pedals on OutRun? Would I need to be delicate or can they stand up to a few dozen plays?
@MysteryCupofJoe 45 minutes with maybe 1 or 2 decent people (the stages are way too long, IMO). I know you're joking but the idea is that arcade games aren't supposed to be "one and done". They're, usually, fun enough to be played over-and-over, and with friends and family (and also randoms if it's the arcade version).
@Zidentia I've seen the 12-in-1 at Best Buy. It's basically the same collection but adding Mappy, Dig Dug, Dig Dug 2, and a game called Rompers which even I haven't heard of.
@masterLEON I was just being snarky, but I would love for more arcade games to get released on the Switch, instead of expensive arcade cabinets.
@Toy_Link Ah, thanks!
@masterLEON The pedals on Outrun work absolutely fine for me. I was wary before I decided to buy it because people were calling the pedals cheap looking, but obviously Arcade 1up needs to make the units affordable, and cant use the highest quality controls (that pretty much goes for all of the materials/controls used on all of the cabinets in general, and I havent run into any issues on any if my cabinets).
I'll take three! I mean, as a gift. I can't think of any game I'd pay that kind of money for. Maybe VR Rez in an R360 cabinet. At any rate, man oh jeez I wish they would release this game on Switch. So many childhood memories.
@kingbk I would definitely buy a Simpsons/X-Men game pack.
I wonder why this article is on Nintendo Life if it isn't being ported to a Nintendo system.
@kingbk HELLS YEAH! Thanks for the heads up
@masterLEON
Ahh, I love mine and beating my score on a regular basis is a treat. I am looking at another one or possibly a pinball game.
My local video arcade had one of these (The Simpsons Arcade Game) when I was a teenager in the 1990s. I used to love walking in and hearing The Simpsons theme blasting through the place. Sadly, the arcade closed down some time in the mid to late 90s.
Very tempted on this one..
I recall my Dad telling me we were going to Portsmouth for the day, but then surprising me and taking me to the local arcade instead. We played this game for a few credits which we both really enjoyed (him as Homer, me as Bart). Great memories.
It does get old soon, but is fun with two or more players.
Since these articles always get the question of why this is covered on Nintendolife, I'd just like to say keep these articles coming. I like to know about certain non-Nintendo things as long as there's crossover interest as is the case here.
So, and this is only a guess, wouldn’t the trackball be for The Simpsons Bowling? A lot of people have speculated that when Arcade1Up did inevitably release a cabinet for The Simpsons Arcade, they would have 4 options.
Option 1: (The Least Practical) Release the cabinet with ONLY TSA and sell it for a little less than or pack it with a riser & stool for regular price.
Option 2: (Obvious Preferred Choice) Release a Simpsons/Simpsons Bowling cabinet.
Option 3: (Still possible, but judging by the trackball in the pic, unlikely) Release TSA with a bunch of Simpsons Console games. Ok, maybe not a bunch going off past A1Up releases but Arcade + 3 Console isn’t too far fetched.
And finally,
Option 4:
Simpsons Arcade
Simpsons Bowling
Bonus Simpsons console titles (the least expensive for them to snag permission for would be Itchy & Scratchy and/or Krusty’s Fun House but Bart vs the World/Barts Nightmare/Virtual Bart/Bartman meets RadioActive Man/hell, even Simpsons Wrestling would be a possibility.
I guess it COULD come with an unlicensed trackball game…but that would pi$$ me off immensely.
Personally, I would buy the cabinet for Simpsons Bowling alone.
Everyone loves The Simpsons Arcade game but it is readily available for far less than $549.
We have it on our AtGames Legends Ultimate, you can easily play it on a Raspberry Pi, GemBox, SCX, etc.
Simpsons Bowling runs a bit iffy on a Pi and depending on how and/or what your setup is, you may not even be able to use the trackball so I am excited if this is finally happening the way I hoped!!
@Rafie Do You Still Play This Game On PS3
@Tasuki Do You Still Play?
@shonenjump86 Do You Still A Play It
@ThaRza7421519 I still did which is why I kept my 360. Right now I don't since it's in storage due to my living situation.
@ThaRza7421519 I haven't played it in over 10 years. I beat both the PS3 and 360 versions to 100%. You can look it up. My name is on some of the first earned trophies and achievements. I loved this game so much as a kid, but never beat it. I sure as heck beat it when it dropped on consoles.
