We're not sure how much the name has to do with the context of the game - Super Soccer Blast: America vs Europe - but there's a light-hearted football title landing on Switch just ahead of the rescheduled European Championships 2020. It's no doubt a potential time-filler between watching games, and it's the second entry in this particular series on Switch (also the 5th sports game from developer Unfinished Pixel).
As you can see in the trailer above it goes for an 'arcadey' and accessible approach, which has the potential to be good fun. You can mess around in character customisation to create your own team and then tackle various tournaments; up to four players can jump in locally, too.

It arrives this week on 11th June; its default price will be $9.99USD / €9,99, but there'll be a 20% launch discount to make it $7.99USD / €7,99.
Are you tempted to give this one a whirl?

It looks really fun!
Are there any articles about what (good) football games are currently available on the Switch?
I miss ISS98 so much!
Maybe the first soccer game on Switch that picks my interest!
I've bought 2 arcade football games on Switch and feel burned by both so I doubt I'll be getting any more.
From the very brief clips of gameplay (always a red flag) it actually looks promising, but the fact it's launching right around the start of an international tournament tells me it's just an attempt to cash in on Euros hype. So I'm gonna stand back and wait for the word of mouth.
It's out since 2018 on steam. It got slightly positive reviews there.
I do kinda miss the 16 - 32 bit gens when there were tons of footy games to pick up. Now it really is just FIFA, somewhat PES and then budget arcadey titles like this.
@Sinton "FIFA, Captain Tsubasa, Football Manager. Thanks for reading, leave a comment below about how much you hate EA".
@gcunit Don’t get me started on E… oh, wait!
@The_New_Butler Yeah, there’s not an abundance of (good) football games on Switch. But there are some that could bring a few hours of fun for a relatively low price.
I remember loving Super Soccer on the SNES in the early 90s. It was clearly no International Superstar Soccer, but fun for what it was. Currently available through the Nintendo Switch Online SNES app.
I’ve heard good things about Super Sidekicks 2 and 3, though I’ve never tried them.
I would love to see the release of the SNES and N64 International Super Soccer games, arcade ports of SEGA’s Virtua Striker games, Sensible Soccer and/or Tecmo Cup Football Game. Even the old Kick Off games could be fun with online multiplayer.
@Sinton What a good idea, stay tuned...
That's the trailer for the first game (same name minus the 'America vs Europe' subtitle) that came out last June which I bought. It was ok if a little dull. Having checked out the actual trailer of the new one, it looks pretty much the same so as @gcunit says, it's probably just a cash grab in time for the Euros.
I just want Mario Strikers on Switch.
Sociable Soccer will be making its way over to us eventually, just as soon as its Apple exclusivity expires I guess, which is the modern version of Sensible Soccer - made by the same core team I believe.
This game looks pretty decent, I have Neo Geo Cup 98, the road to victory on Switch, thats quite fun, not much depth but a nice time killer. Probably the same as this tbf
America vs Europe? Unless it’s the Women’s teams, America might as well as not show up. Male teams still require a handicap to even last a round. The Robin Williams joke still applies.
@antisumo Wasn’t aware of that one - looks like a fun game. I wonder if I’ve spent some money on this back in the day, seems somewhat familiar.
@Sinton @Sinton I think it's a Super Sidekicks series game but a tournament special. Decent enough game just no longevity
@Rich10 I really want Sociable Soccer on switch, I know it won't be the SWOS of old, but would still scratch that itch
I emailed unfinished pixel asking if it was just a reskin of the first super soccer blast as already own it and it was just meh. Nothing special like the volleyball and tennis games. Very fun and really pick up and play. I expected over the top fun going into super soccer blast and it’s like they went more sim then arcade. Most arcade soccer games have you getting tons of shots on net without it going into the stands or missing the net most times but the goalies keep you in the game because of their ridiculous saves. Sure In arcade soccer games there will always be cheese goals but super soccer blast was missing a lot.
The passing seemed to realistic. I didn’t like that every time I slid at an attacker to get the ball from them. It turned to a penalty or they got a free kick. Unlike Mario strikers you could slide into them so they had to pass and get rid of the ball fast or pay the price.
I like a game where I can pass, pass, pass and it goes to a player instead of it missing them and the opponent gets it. It’s suppose to be fast paced. Cut off my pass then cool. But if you just have to run down field and I can’t slide into you then yeah,.the game is starting to suck.
Hopefully a full review comes out and can say if it differentiates from the original. If it does. I’ll just pretend like I didn’t buy the first one.
@Jonnyblond Did Unfinished Pixel get back to you about how they improved the game? The AI looked a bit easy in videos of the first game so I'm hoping for some improvement there. Cheers!
@Bosh_Factory. They actually did. Here’s the email. We have worked for almost a year including new stuff to Super Soccer Blast: America vs Europe. The new stuff includes:
Which platform do you have? There is a 40% off if you own the previous game, except in PlayStation as Sony doesn't allow that kind of discounts.
I hope this helps to make your choice
Ok. So I went out on a whim and bought it. the game is fun and I thought what did I have to lose for 7$. It’s more refined then super soccer blast. The passing is easier and it just seems like it’s more arcade then the previous game. But it is easier to score goals but I played on easy mode so far. In my opinion. This is what super soccer blast should have been in the first place. I find it’s way more fun and accessible. The first game felt more sim but tried to be arcade but it didn’t work out. Anyways..do I recommend it. I am satisfied and do like it.
@Jonnyblond Thank you for sharing the e-mail and adding your own opinions - very much appreciated. I'm going to buy the game too!
@Rich10 Hey Rich! The exclusivity ended last November so we are free to do what we want and we have an announcement coming regarding the Switch and other platforms.
@antisumo Hey there! Yeah it's not going to be Sensible Soccer but it is going to have great elements of it in the gameplay, but with a new sweet and responsive style to it. No delays, just pure fun action with a massive set of teams and competitions - online and offline. Wait for the announcement to come, it is looking very good on the Switch already.
@GusssCM you sound like someone on the inside! I haven't played it on Apple Arcade, mainly because I can't stand touch controls, I'm old school and need a controller in my hand!
@antisumo yes, so I am the CM of the game. Nice to meet you! You can play the game with a controller like PS3/PS4/PS5 or Xbox controllers already on Apple Arcade, but if you prefer to wait there's no hurry. The game will take a huge step for the jump to consoles and PC. =D
@GusssCM nice to meet you too! To be honest the kids usually hog the ipad anyways so never get a chance to get on it! I will happily wait until it comes out on the Switch, I've waited since I had SWOS on my Atari ST so I'm sure I can wait a bit longer hahaha
@GusssCM Thanks for the updated info, been looking forward to this release for a while now (ever since we saw footage of the game running on a Switch a few years ago). 😀
