Re: NBA Playgrounds Will Feature Full Online Play on Switch, A Few Days After Launch

ThomasBW84

@crackafreeze I'm hoping for the best, I love NBA Jam so really want this to be good. It has elbow throwing, so fingers crossed!

@Fred13 I'm not sure, we're hoping to snag a Switch code for review so our aim will be to cover stuff like that asap. The game page on the eShop shows that tabletop mode is supported, but whether that means we can play with one Joy-Con each or not isn't necessarily guaranteed.

Re: Editorial: The Ongoing Pleasures of Nintendo Switch Boxes, Cartridges and (Occasionally) Manuals

@stevejcrow I just mean deleting games and managing space on the hard drive. My PS4 is one of the older ones with 500GB, so I'm often having to choose something to delete as various retail games at 40-60GB each. And no, I don't feel inclined to invest in a new hard drive for it

My point was that the PS4 disc is pointless, all it does is dump the data onto your system anyway.

Re: Feature: The Growing Pains of Curation on the Nintendo Switch eShop

ThomasBW84

@BionicDodo Ah I see, it's a fair point. I did also seek out those happy to speak on the record (in the third section), and the aim was to balance out with that section where devs defend / explain some of the issues. It's inevitable that plenty request anonymity though, they have business concerns to worry about.

Thanks for the feedback though - I was happy with the balance in terms of portraying different perspectives, but appreciate the comments.

Re: Review: LEGO City: Undercover (Switch)

ThomasBW84

@Sourcecode Awesome

I'm glad you're enjoying it with your son. One of the quirks of the writing is that it probably makes more sense to grown-ups because of the references, but the fact it's LEGO (it's all physical comedy) means it's funny for kids too.

But yeah, I do like this game, I think some think I'm 'attacking' it. Naturally in a review I'm duty-bound to highlight flaws as I see it, but ultimately I hope people that buy it have fun. The LEGO games, 9 times out of 10, are always entertaining.

Re: Review: LEGO City: Undercover (Switch)

ThomasBW84

@Romeo-75 I'm afraid that TT seems happy to churn out inefficient games, I don't think I've ever played a well optimised LEGO game on a Nintendo system - they're always a bit janky.

In single player docked this version runs pretty well, but yeah I think the co-op performance is rather bad. I remember being amazed at how bad co-op was in LEGO Dimensions on Wii U, too.

Re: Review: LEGO City: Undercover (Switch)

ThomasBW84

@Loui I didn't complain about the load times

Anyway, I appreciate all the opinions that feel this game should score higher, that's fair enough. I just don't share that view, but remember 6 means 'not bad' and I enjoyed the game.

I know some still subscribe to the view that anything under an 8 is 'bad', but I'm afraid that won't stop us using all of the numbers in the scale.

Re: Video: Let's See How LEGO City: Undercover on Switch Stacks Up Against the Wii U Original

ThomasBW84

@Zach777 The lighting and some of the assets have been overhauled. On top of that the Switch supports the full RGB colour range, so the blacks are darker and so on.

For my money (I captured the footage) the Switch version looks a lot better on my 50-inch TV, but there have been some interesting decisions in the remaster (obviously PS4 and Xbox One were also in mind). It's not exactly a slam dunk, either, as you can see there are glitches and strange graphical inconsistencies.

Anyway, hoping to have the review with you all in the next day or two!

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd March (North America)

ThomasBW84

@BornInNorway81 NoA doesn't do the discount lists in its press release, so I give the link to its site that does that. Nintendo of Europe does give the list of discounts, so that's why that equivalent article will show the reduced games.

Re: Editorial: On the Road With the Nintendo Switch

ThomasBW84

@BLP_Software Ah, I just got mixed up because it was FAST RMX used as an example when that all came out, my bad (I don't have I Am Setsuna so can't comment on that one). But yeah, I wasn't about when that article was written up, so got confused like a typical old man.

Re: HAMSTER Corporation Promises Improvements in Nintendo Switch ACA Neo Geo Titles

ThomasBW84

@meppi Will try that, though presumably the 'updates' will sort that out; evidently RGB range is part of the issue with the emulation, based on what you're saying.

I'd second what some are saying that the games are still perfectly playable and fun. I've been enjoying a bit of Metal Slug 3 too, but definitely looking forward to seeing if fixes do the job.

EDIT: Ah, you're having more general issues? Maybe check your HDMI connections etc too. The Switch does output a nice deep image in full RGB range in my case, so I'm not sure what's going wrong for you.
