Following the slightly disappointing news that Windjammers 2 was delayed to 2021, we're getting a ton of news, new trailers, and even a demo on Steam, which makes us think that maybe the frisbee-throwing game isn't as far off as we thought.
This latest trailer reveals the addition of Arcade Mode, in which players can run gauntlets of matches, enter championships, and see personalised endings for each player when they win.
The trailer also shows the return of Steve Miller (known as Beeho Yoo in the Japanese version), the British disc-flinging icon whose stats focus on dexterity and movement.

Totally tubular
Steve Miller as in Jet Airliner?
Why does it look a 2000s flashgame? Is that considered a "cool retro look" now ... I'm really getting old oO
Used to love the original and have long felt someone could do something with the franchise. Pretty underwhelmed by this though - looks more or less like a clone of the original, but with graphics that almost like a Flash game.
@Ralek85
Dotemu does very good jobs. Play SOR 4 on your switch, it's far batter for real than on yt.
Sry for my english...
@tatanga Played it on Gamepass, looked pretty good yeah. I dunno, maybe it's the top-down perspective here or something. This one does not look visually appealing at all
Loving the new art style*. Kinda like what Streets of Rage 4 did for that series.
[EDIT] Unlike others here it would seem! 😂
Oh yeah! Frisbee pong!
Got to agree about the art style, feels a bit mixed. Character design and animations look nice, but then the shadows beneath the characters are just blobs...could be to make the overall image easier to read, perhaps?
SoR4 felt more like a cohesive art direction, but as mentioned in other posts, Dotemu are a talented bunch, will check out the demo before making a final judgement.
The "Flash" look that people describe comes from the heavy black outlines which makes things look flatter and more disconnected from the backgrounds. Some people like that, but it's not common in old sprite games people fondly remember which is why is sticks out so much. As far as the trailer(I hate modern trailers for everything now as they're too chaotic), the screen shake in the game is pretty bad for me. I think it's an overused thing and I'm sensitive to it. I know some games have options to reduce it or turn it off, which I think is a good thing. Older games used screen-shaking effects much less when did it with less intensity usually. It would often be limited to just a handful of pixels at most. Also, vertical shake is easier to handle than horizontal in my experience.
Steve Miller the musician? I know nothing about this series but I'm very familiar with that name.
Missed opportunity for a "space cowboy" reference
Day one! Maybe day two!
I don't really get all of the complaints about the visuals. They pop and are full of colour and energy. Plus, the animation is really smooth. This game is probably my most anticipated one this year. I love the original Windjammers, and this one looks even better. I'm really hoping it ends up being a hit.
Am I the only one who wants a new super dodgeball game after watching the trailer?
Played this at EGX in 2019, was so much fun. Stunning looking game. Can't wait for it, been waiting for a sequel for the majority of my life.
I assume this is not the Steve Miller with the band?
@ian_beale I agree with you.. I watching it and thinking what a wasted opportunity to bring some new ideas to the game. Feels a bit like Ultra Streetfighter 2 on Switch.. ‘tweak game very slightly, overlay Flash art’
Can we get a AES port? Thanks Guys!
