Update: Version 11.0.0 is now available. Get a rundown on the patch notes and fighter adjustments in our latest post.
As is always the case as we gear up for a new character arrival, Nintendo has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's next update will arrive later today.
The update coincides with the launch of the game's latest character, Pyra/Mythra, who will become available today or tomorrow depending on your region. Like with previous updates, Nintendo has urged players to convert any saved replays they might have before the update drops as they'll then become incompatible.
We'll make sure to update you with the update's full patch notes if/when Nintendo releases them, so make sure to stay tuned for that in the near future. Alongside the new fighter, the update will also add new Mii Fighter costumes based on Monster Hunter and Ghosts 'N Goblins.
With Pyra/Mythra releasing shortly, that leaves just two characters spaces remaining. Who will they be?

Save them sweet, sweet replays y'all
although does anyone actually save them?
I wish they would have more free content updates with like modes and stuff they had 2 but I hunger for more xD
Bring back Smash Run but with spirit-possessed characters roaming the map, and defeat them on the map to collect their powers for the final fight at the end of the time limit!
That would be noice
Please, for the love of god, buff link or incineroar
@NikHogan I save mine. I trim them into highlight reels and make a montage for every patch.
I checked my version of the game and its very outdated...I missed 2 updates for the game or was it 3..It just tells you that l haven't played on smash in a while
So excited for the Hunter Mii armor's return!
When will the update come
@NikHogan Every now and then when I have a really good match, I save a replay to analyse it.
When I first got the game, I didn't know that when the game got updated, replays were deleted if they weren't saved. I lost like 60 replays of matches. That was annoying. Excited for the update, though.
I’ve had Smash Ultimate on my Switch since day one, but only really played it properly today for an hour or two. It’s my first Smash game (I had the Wii U and 3DS games, but never got around to them) and I’ll happily admit it.. I was pretty useless. With this in mind, is there anywhere I can find a beginners guide? I’d love to get good, because the game is absolutely gorgeous. Please my fellow NL readers, HELP ME!
@The_Pixel_King I was the same way...love Smash but was terrible at it. Still had tons of fun with it though. There are a bunch of books or online guides and videos on YouTube. Check Amazon...I got the official guide and it helped a ton though it doesn’t now contain any of the DLC characters. Regardless, pick a character or 2 and learn their basic moves. Then move on to a totally different character and try them out. Everyone CONTROLS, for the most part, the same, but the moves and combos are different. Once you get a feel for the flow of the game, you’ll feel the differences between characters and connect with someone’s move set.
I’ve been on a long break from this game. I gotta get back in it.
@The_Pixel_King Best place to start is still Izaw's "Art of Smash" series. He has a suite of general guides to learn the core game mechanics (Part 1 below), and makes deep character guides too. Long videos, but surprisingly concise and clear throughout; there`s just a lot to cover.

Though if you're that new to the series, just playing Adventure mode and against friends and playing the game in general will make you improve quickly for a while either way.
@NikHogan SH** I need to go save them If I didn't lose them the last time around thanks for the warning.
We really need a Joker buff. Give him more bullet damage, more overall regular joker damage and make Arsene do double damage.
@The_Pixel_King I know not everybody's a fan of World of Light but I'd say it gives you a good chance to check out the whole cast. I'd give that a run through and see if any character sticks, once you find a character you like just stick with them until you're comfortable, then I'd hit up Youtube for guides or other info.
It takes time but it's very rewarding, also helps a lot if you happen to have friends in or around the same skill level as you to play with/against.
@JimmyFleck @Merry_Blind @mr_somewhere Thank you so much for the advice, guys! I really appreciate the help. I’ve always wanted to get into Smash ever since the Wii U and 3DS games, which I bought, but never played more than about an hour of each. However, I refuse to let that happen this time around. Ultimate is such a gorgeous game, and even though I sucked, I had a ton of fun. But I imagine it’d be way more fun if, you know, I actually knew what I was doing! 😂
Thanks again for taking the time to reply. It genuinely means a lot.

My eldest daughter comes round every weekend and, along with my youngest, the three of us usually play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for hours. After the fun I had with Smash today though, I’m gonna get them to play that instead this weekend. I couldn’t get them into ARMS when I tried last year, but I reckon they’ll have a blast with Smash.
7:30PM Eastern time.
@The_Pixel_King You’re welcome. I can sympathize...I loved everything about Smash...the characters, the stages, the music, the trophies, the chaos of it, I loved everything it had to offer, but was constantly puzzled as to why I was so bad at it. I’ve been playing it since the beginning, and I just topped out at a very low skill level until Ultimate. I’ve been getting progressively better at it and some of it was just seeing the enormous roster and saying “I’ll never know how to use all of them, so I’ll pick 3”. Then a lot of the techniques with those three translated throughout the roster and I found more characters to use and have fun with.
@The_Pixel_King Good luck! It's a really fun game once you get into it.
