Atlus finally locked in a release date for the Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster earlier this week. It'll land on multiple platforms, including the Switch, on 25th May.
If you're planning on picking up the "Digital Deluxe Edition", which allows you to start playing the game four days early, you might be interested to know the digital version's file size. According to Nintendo's official game page for the remaster, it'll take up approximately 8.5 GB of space.
The "Digital Deluxe Edition" will also give you access to the Maniax pack, featuring Dante from Devil May Cry, a BGM pack with 2 songs each from other main entries, and more.
Alternatively, if you want to save some space on your Switch, there'll also be a standard retail version. Will you be purchasing a digital or physical copy of this game when it arrives this May? Tell us down below.

So it's 1.5GB bigger than the Japanese version? I guess there's more voice acting than I expected...
physical, always prefer physical
I'm interested but I don't know if it is frustratingly hard like some say it is - and like some older jrpgs can be.
I haven't worried about file sizes of Switch games ever since I purchased a 400gb SD card a year ago.
On top of that, my library is mostly physical, so I'm never in a jam.
So will they give us a 16GB cart or will they force a 500MB-1GB download on us?
Really looking forward to this one. Do we know the price of the standard eShop edition yet? If only they’d also remaster IV Apocalypse, too. Super excited for the eagerly awaited SMT V the most though!
I will be getting physical when it is released.
@Nico_D They added an easier difficultly to the game so that shouldn't be an issue for people who found the original hard or intimidating for newer players.
@Kimyonaakuma Ya I am not sure but I think the Japanese only had Japanese vo while the western version get both English and Japanese.
@The_Pixel_King Pretty sure it's £45 when I checked.
@SilentHunter382 I'd hope it's dual audio, didn't wait this long just so they could remove some of the audio...and use a bigger file size 😂
@Kimyonaakuma IT is defo Dual audio for the western release I just wasn't sure if it was JP only in japan.
$50 is a bit steep for a ps2 game. Might just get this on a steam sale when it goes lower.
gonna grab this whenever it pops up on amazon
@SilentHunter382 I think that difficulty is only if you spend $70.
@Nico_D @SilentHunter382 The new easy difficulty is TOO easy. Nocturne isn't meant to be blown through without learning the mechanics.
It's not an unfair game on Normal difficulty. People just cry about it because you can't just power level your way through the game, but actually have to understand and exploit the mechanics. It's part of what makes mainline special. In this case, the HD remaster allows the player to select which skills are inherited by demons when you fuse them, so it's already easier than the original.
@Ralizah Sounds very similar to Persona. What are the main differences between the two really, apart from theme?
@Spanjard (Modern) Persona games are heavy on dialogue, character development, and feature a calendar system to structure the games. They're also set in modern-day Japan. Their battle systems are based on Nocturne turn-press combat, but the damage scaling, overpowered mechanics (like the All Out attacks), and comparative lack of punishment for poor play compared to SMT makes them much breezier experiences. Unfortunately, it's a bit disappointing for those of us who end up blowing through these games even on the highest difficulty setting.
SMT games have apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic settings. Japan is ruined, and the player weaves their way through a hellscape controlled by factions of supernatural entities. There's comparatively little dialogue, a much more open design structure that allows the player to wander around Tokyo, and much more of an emphasis put on recruiting and fusing teams of demons to fight alongside the player.
tl;dr Modern Persona games are easy, put more of an emphasis on the social simulation elements, and are structured around a calendar system. SMT is more tactical, pure dungeon-crawling JRPG, and is much more open and explorative design-wise.
@JuiceMan_V Same
@NicolausCamp Unlikely. Persona 5 Strikers came all on cart. I don't see why this would be any different.
I don’t care about it too much. Standard version it is for me.
Cannot wait for this game
@Ralizah I hope so too, but some companies have cheapened out quite a bit lately, and while Persona 5 Strikers is a new high-profile release, SMT3 is an old game, remastered.
EA pulled this with their recent Need for Speed remaster, and while Sega and EA aren't the same, I still get a bit worried when these things happen.
Hee ho! Dante said no!
Of all things, why is Dante locked behind DLC? I hate when this kind of crap is pulled just to make extra profit. EA, Sega (I think), and even Nintendo does this crap. Now Atlus? This is the type of thing that ruins returning content. If Dante was completely new, then I wouldn't complain.
$50 is a bit pricey so hopefully Amazon will discount it $10 like they sometimes do.
I’m curious about playing this one, but I know that I’m easily worn down by JRPGs. I never finished persona 5, Xenoblade 1 or 2, FF7 Remake or Dragon Quest XI. It was a miracle that I finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon. So while my wallet and heart are open to playing this, my backlog of JRPGs are all rumbling saying they want me to finish them first.
Day 1 physical for me. I don't mind paying $50 because it will be a brand new experience for me.
@Ralizah That's good breve summary explaining precisely what I wanted to know. It seems I would enjoy SMT even more then.
I still quite liked a lot of the aspects of P5, like the music and overall style and battles, so I plan to return to it soon.
Physical on this one for sure. Ive been getting more retail games digitally, but definitely want to get Atlus titles physically.
I wish the would have ported this early in the Switch's life. But with it taking me about three years to finish all the previous SMT games I played, I'm not buying this with SMT V coming out in a year. And confession time. I never finished Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers on 3DS. I'd like to beat it because it's a cool game, but good Lord, it's fiendishly difficult!
I’m disappointed there’s no deluxe physical edition like in Japan. I may play through the first two games again since this doesn’t come out until end of May.
I'd like to purchase the physical version, but I must admit that I was tempted to preorder it from the e'shop, when I saw it available today.
That's a bit bigger than I expected but that's fine.
I didn't get into this series until IV on 3DS but I'm day one buying this on the eshop, no doubt.
@Thoughts @ModdedInkling Honestly I can understand why Dante is a paid dlc. It is either have him as a paid dlc to pay the licence cost to capcom to have him in there or just not have him at all in the game to not pay that licence fee. It really wouldn't have mattered either way as he just replaced one of the characters anyway.
$50 is a little steep for it. I’ll pick it up when it goes on sale around Black Friday for around $19.99-$29.99 and when they tweak the game some more.
@jcboyer515 atlus confirmed a 2021 release date last july
hope it'll be at wal-mart, even tho it isn't mainstream. their games are 10$ cheaper!!
@jcboyer515 love that garnet pfp btw
@jcboyer515
I feel like they're a little more independent, similarly to how The Pokémon Company has some autonomy from Nintendo. Sega doesn't even publish or distribute all of the SMT/Persona games for that matter.
