Re: Want To 100% 'Welcome Tour'? You'll Need To Cough Up For Some Accessories

THENAMESNORM

I personally feel this is a great wee piece of software, and I've happily paid the money for it. Spent a few hours with it today, and I'm enjoying it. I have a 4K tv but not HDR, so I had to do the sections requiring HDR in tabletop mode but it's not a big deal if its missed out. I get it; people want to be able to experience 100% of things but the reality is that there's a huge amount of content in this 'tech demo' to justify the price, and I'd rather have it as it is than simply not release it because not everyone has the right TV or controllers. Or worse, to have those sections removed so people can't complain.

Re: Four Lost NES, SNES And N64 Games Have Been Brought Back To Life, Pre-Orders Now Open

THENAMESNORM

@Azuris I'm sure others have already commented, however I'm tired and cannot be bothered scrolling down to see I'm afraid.....

yeah I can say for sure that 40 winks for the N64 was previously released via Kickstarter as I backed it, and have my glorious black cartridge copy in my collection.

I would assume that this is just a second print run being made available at retail for the first time perhaps?

Either way, I'm disappointed to be reading an article on NintendoLife that definitely seems to indicate that this is the first time any of these games have been released. I love this site and have visited it for years, but dear lord its going downhill fast with annoying clickbait article titles like "something has seen something and the internet can't handle it", or even this article being inaccurate. This is their bread and butter, and what I always loved about this site was how honest and accurate it was, while showing a love for all things modern and retro with a Nintendo connection and a few years ago there's no way a misleading (even if it is only slightly misleading) article would have been published.

Re: Feature: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

THENAMESNORM

I feel like Kirby's Epic Yarn has been grossly under-estimated by fans. I'm still hoping for a triple pack re-lease on Switch of Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Wooly World packed in with Yoshi's Crafted World. That would be epic.

Re: Hell Yes! Doom 64's Re-Release Includes An Entirely New Chapter

THENAMESNORM

@90sRetroGaming yeah totally, they should make some sort of statement. I expect it’ll still be a preorder bonus for switch users but as you said they should clarify (also whether it will be available straight away or When eternal launches!) but it’s had a price for a while now on the eshop which is the only indicator that it will be sold separately too. And I’m stunned at how reasonable the price is! Hope they clarify the situation soon for yourself and others that need to know!

Re: Hell Yes! Doom 64's Re-Release Includes An Entirely New Chapter

THENAMESNORM

@90sRetroGaming My understanding is that the game will be sold stand alone on the Switch, while it is bundled on other systems as a pre-order bonus. On the Microsoft store on Xbox One the game is listed, but clearly marked as part a bundle only (Eternal), whereas on Switch is has a price and release date of 20/03/2020. If it was bundle only then it would not have a price.

On that note, it's a VERY reasonable price - this was my first N64 purchase back in the day and cost me £59.99, loved every minute of it and as other users have pointed out it's a slightly slower affair with improved lighting and atmosphere over the originals. While it didn't compare to Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, it was my next favourite shooter on the N64!

Re: Review: The Wonderful 101 - A Thrilling Assault On The Senses

THENAMESNORM

I like seeing older content re-posted, especially if it's relevant. Which this is.

For those complaining about it being highlighted for relevance, why do you bother? You don't need to read it if you don't want to..........you are complaining for the sake of it, and honestly negativity for something like this is ridiculous. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, therefore the above opinion from myself is my entitlement too.

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The First Nintendo Direct Of 2020

THENAMESNORM

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pikmin 3 Deluxe along with a small update on Pikmin 4. Ideally I'd love to see some N64 games appearing, perhaps not through the APP structure of NES and SNES games and perhaps not even exclusive for NSO members, but enhanced versions (similar to Sega Ages releases) with small tweaks (perhaps control tweaks for modern controllers, or widescreen support for those that didn't originally support it) or even english language support for the Famicom exclusive NSO games like Famicom Wars or the original Fire Emblem! Really I just want some retro stuff every bit as much as I want new stuff. I'm selfish like that!

Re: DOOM Eternal Has Been Delayed, And The Switch Version Is The Most Heavily Affected

THENAMESNORM

I'm not bothered about Doom: Eternal but I'm really gutted to read that Doom64 is also delayed until March! I believe it was originally stated as a November release, and this article states "coming soon" whereas the press release states March 20. I'll be really annoyed if the delay to Doom 64 is solely because of the delay to Doom: Eternal - given the fact it's a pre-order bonus I would expect that Doom 64 could still launch early and be bought separately or have a system where paid pre-orders can download it early. ARGH!

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

THENAMESNORM

Dear NintendoLife, please read my comments as constructive.......

First off, I think the foundation for this article has much validity and is therefore a great idea, however the fundamentals of the voting are - in my opinion - seriously flawed.

The voting is structured to assume that everyone has had faulty hardware - why is there no option for those without faults? I myself have owned a NES, N64, 2 Gamecubes, a Wii, WiiU, Switch, Gameboy, GBA GBA SP, DS, 2 x DS Lite, 3DS, 3DS XL and a New 3DS XL and I have never had any hardware faults that needed repairing. Perhaps I have been lucky, however I always got good use out of my systems, and every single one that I still own works perfectly well today in fact! Conversely I have owned 4 PS3 systems - the first 3 failed suspiciously just after their manufacturers warranty expired - and 3 Xbox One's - two of which needed repaired. I would add that my Mega-Drive, PS2, 360 and PS4 have seen no such failures however Sony only has a 50% success rate with me, as does Microsoft......

Given the fact this article is focusing on faults with systems, it could be seen as fairly negative however I would love to see it updated to further reflect the positive side of things - which is that Nintendo has always made durable, reliable hardware.

Re: Resident Evil 4 On Switch Is Missing Something Pretty Major For Nintendo Fans

THENAMESNORM

@Kisame83 I wasn’t being snooty mate, and I am well aware that the control schemes are different and that it’s a conversion of the HD remaster, but for the price they are charging I believe it should be included. How difficult would it really be when they are charging £30 a pop to expect a thorough job to be done? And while you mention the PS4 version, it would have been great for move support to have been added but that never happened either.

Re: Resident Evil 4 On Switch Is Missing Something Pretty Major For Nintendo Fans

THENAMESNORM

@Kisame83 yeah I’m aware of that, if you look closely the switch also isn’t a GameCube. But seriously, the joy con work great with revelations 1 and 2 and some other games too, the system has the capability and for me it’s a massive oversight on capcoms part. I don’t normally prefer motion controls, but with RE4:Wii Edition they were as perfect as can be so it’s a shame that they haven’t included it. I already own the game twice, so no motion controls = no triple dipping I’m afraid.

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Admit That F-Zero X Is The Best F-Zero

THENAMESNORM

I don't understand this! F-Zero X is (in my opinion) far superior to GX/AX. I like GX, and own it too, but X is just on another level. Perhaps it's just because I had the time as a teenager to sink lots of hours into X and I was a bit more grown up when GX came out, but I always feel there's something magical about X that hasn't been captured in subsequent F-Zero games.

Re: All Secret SNES Data Has Just Been Removed From Nintendo Switch Online's NES App

THENAMESNORM

I'd imagine it would be a separate app for any SNES games anyway, which I like the idea of. And the inevitable SNES controllers to accompany them, which I would buy without hesitation. Really though, I would love to see some Japanese only games getting translated too, like Earthbound Beginnings on the WiiU. So I'd love to play the NES Fire Emblem games, or Famicom Wars without having to use my retron 5 and an unofficial English patch!

Re: Rumour: Fire Emblem Three Houses Delayed Until September, According To UK Retailer

THENAMESNORM

It wouldn't surprise me if it were delayed, and Nintendo has proven in the past (even very recently with metroid Prime 4) that they will make the difficult decisions if it will benefit the game. I still remember the two year delay for Ocarina of Time! I love Fire Emblem, however with WarGroove I have an amazing alternative to keep me going until it is released. If it comes in Spring, I will buy it. If it is delayed, I will buy it. I'm not going to fret over a release date that hasn't even been confirmed yet. My actual feeling is that it will arrive in May. I hope I'm right!

Re: Feature: Chucklefish On Wargroove, Advance Wars And Making Tools That Turn Players Into Creators

THENAMESNORM

@rjejr this is on the FAQ page of teh Wargroove website

"Can I share my created maps, campaigns and cutscenes online?
Yes! You can upload, share online and download user-generated content between all cross-platform enabled consoles. For Nintendo Switch you won’t need a Nintendo Online Subscription in order to upload or download UGC, but you will need it for online multiplayer."

So that sounds pretty fair! Really excited for this!

Re: Talking Point: Which SNES Games Do You Want To See On Nintendo Switch Online?

THENAMESNORM

Well, I just booted up my WiiU in Wii mode and had a look at my virtual console titles and theres a few there that were never released on the WiiU's VC service or the SNES Classic, however to be honest I really crave the Japan exclusive Fire Emblem games!! There would be more effort required for these with translations etc however to get the Earthbound Origins game proves theres an appetite and market, so I'd love to see that happen.

Re: Rumour: Was Monster Games Working On A Sequel To Diddy Kong Racing?

THENAMESNORM

@Mgene15 Snowboard Kids was amazing! One of the first games I ever properly completed, and the only game I was ever able to compete in the N64 magazine leagues with! I was lucky enough to import the sequel to the UK from Australia around 13 years ago and although not quite as good it's still an awesome game. Nintendo published it (well, at least they did in the UK!) and I would love it to be on any proposed N64 Mini classic super awesome Ultra Project Reality console that may (or may not) release, but I think it's a bit of stretch.

Re: Camelot Software Boss Is Keen To Make Shining Force IV A Reality

THENAMESNORM

I played Shining Force 1 and 2 long before I even knew of Fire Emblem. While I love Fire Emblem, I would love to see another proper Shining Force game. I played the Wii VC Shining Force for over 10 hours. Loved it. And if they ever saw a re-release I'd buy them again. Great games. Fire Emblem has proven the genre is still popular, and there's no reason both can't co-exist.

Re: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Is Getting a Season Pass

THENAMESNORM

The only bad thing about these announcements are the inevitable and unreasonable responses from the public. This game looks great. From all the previews I've read, it IS great! So the DLC - like most DLC I will add - is aimed at those that loved the game and want MORE. It beats waiting years for a full sequel, right?

Bottom line, If you don't like it then don't buy it. There is obviously a market for DLC or it wouldn't be happening.

Re: Editorial: Is This a Golden Era of Gaming? Absolutely

THENAMESNORM

Jeez, some people commenting on here seem to forget that everyone's experiences and therefore opinions are different. For me, I had a NES, Game Boy, Mega Drive then N64. The N64 was the first time I'd owned a console within its first year and its my most fondly remembered console. And it wasn't cheap either. Yes, that's partially down to the higher cost of cartridges, but Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was £70 at launch in the UK!! Super Mario 64 and Waverace 64 were £59.99!! When It came to Goldeneye, I manager to snag it for £44.99 with a £5 off coupon as it was retailing for £49.99 I think the cheapest game I ever bought (And one of my personal favourites to this day!!) was Snowboard Kids at £39.99 on launch day. Let's not forget either that the console cost £250 at launch, before eventually coming down to £99. So for me, a lot of prices haven't changed in the 20 years since that! Games are between £39.99 and £59.99 for standard editions, and my Switch cost £279. At £20 more than an N64 that's an increase of £1 per year (around a 12% rise in 20 years I think) I started working in 2001, earning the then minimum wage of £3.60 per hour. 16 years later and I earn around £10 per hour. That's around a 180% increase. Even when you look at the current minimum wage for the same age bracket I was in then, it's currently £5.60 - a 55% increase. So do you know what? My opinion is that the article is spot on - it has never been more affordable to own a console or buy games.

Re: Advance Wars Producer Doesn't Have A Clear Idea For New Entry

THENAMESNORM

I really believed the Wii U would have had an eShop exclusive Advance Wars, it is really suited to that kind of audience. But either way, I'd buy a new game regardless of format. Like Fire Emblem, it's so addictive. But I love that the two have always been speparate, I'm not keen on the idea of using mechanics from another game just because they can.

Re: Today's Super Bomberman R Update Includes Four Battle Mode Stages And Two Accessories

THENAMESNORM

Great update, I'm glad Konami will continue to improve the game. I love Bomberman but I was left a little disappointed by Super Bomberman R so these updates will at least entice me back every now and then. But for a full retail titles I suppose it wasn't as fleshed out an experience as it could have been so perhaps the game was rushed out for launch before it was really finished? Either way, the update sounds like a great thing, I'll try it later.
