Re: UK Press Pins Blame For Sandy Hook Massacre On Video Games

THENAMESNORM

There are unfortunately events like this every so often, and it is inevitable that one of them was going to be a COD player eventually. Millions of people play it religiously and yet they don't go on killing sprees! It sounds more like the guy had a fascination with the military and it was this that would influence him more than COD.

However there has to be something seriously wrong with him to do what he did, and I don't think his obsession with the military or COD had a huge bearing on what happened.

Furthermore, for those that don't live in the UK - The Sun is a terrible terrible publication, owned by the same people that ran the News of the World(google them and see why they halted publication). The Sun - like most journalists nowadays sadly - sensationalise most things and all stories should be read on the understanding that they will not tell the whole story.

The Sun is sadly trying to cash in on a sensitive subject, and hope - by blaming something that millions are aware of or have an interest in - they will make more money from it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th December 2012 (Europe)

THENAMESNORM

What an incredible week! OK I already have Little Inferno(what a game!) and I have the WiiWare EscapeVektor but I'm tempted by ALL the price reductions this week! Plus Gunamn Clive!

Let's hope this isn't just a one-off with all these sales, and this is a regular thing! The only downside is it's gonna cost me alot!!

Re: Wii U Software Falls Off The UK Charts

THENAMESNORM

There are probably less than 80,00 Wii U owners in the UK right now, compared to several million for all other consoles! Of course that's going to be a factor! Add to that the fact that people have only just shelled out a few hundred for their new console and I can totally understand why there's few Wii U games in the top 40!

Let's take a look in 12 months time!

Re: Review: Little Inferno (Wii U eShop)

THENAMESNORM

Love this game, very nearly finished it on my first playthough after 2 hrs 53 mins, but it was late and i was knackered so I finished it the following day after 3 hrs 23 mins, though I've still got tons of combos to find! Love the game, and felt emotionally attached to the story too!

Re: Nintendo Says The Play Limit On Demos Is Set By The Publishers

THENAMESNORM

Limits are fine, especially for free demonstration software! In any case, XBLA arcade games have done this for a while! For example, Counter Strike gives you 45 mins to play before you have to purchase the game!

I'd much rather have a limit on how many times I get to play it than how MUCH time I get to play it for!

Re: Nintendo Network Premium Website Goes Live

THENAMESNORM

Anyone complaining about ANYTHING to do with this please get some perspective! It's a reward programme, REWARDING those that purchase digitally!

If you don't want to purchase digitally, then don't do it! But don't complain about something that does not need to be given in the first place!

Sure, there are many ways it could be better, but where else do you see a console manufacturer running anything as rewarding as this?

Re: Review: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Wii U)

THENAMESNORM

This game can be picked up in the UK for between £25 and £30, and it's a steal! I DO prefer Mario Kart, however the earliest I expect any NEWS on MK U would be E3, with a release possibly next christmas. And that's me being SUPER optimistic! So any MK fans on the fence, this is a great game and worthy of your time!

Re: 18-Rated Content on Wii U eShop Only Accessible for Four Hours a Day

THENAMESNORM

The principle is sound(that under 18's should NOT be able to access the content) but the application is 100% wrong.

In any case, I believe the law in the UK prevents the purchase of an age restricted product by a minor, however there is no law against them actually playing it. At least that's how it was when I was growing up.

Now I'm not for one minute saying that children should be playing ZombiU or any other age restricted title, but they cannot have a method to stop them that involves restricting those that are age-appropriate for the material.

I fully expect this to be fixed sooner rather than later.

Re: Panorama View to be Sighted on Wii U eShop in Spring 2013

THENAMESNORM

Yeah this is excellent news. Got to try it at the Wii U roadshow in Braehead and it was very easy to use, and I really was hoping it would be downloadable! I wouldn't be surprised if it was free for a limited time, before having a £4.99 price tag or something similar. I certainly wouldn't pay much more than that, unless more content was added to it!

Re: Nintendo of America Confirms Its Own Nintendo Direct Broadcast

THENAMESNORM

I don't think many of the above hoped for announcements are realistic, but I agree that there will be some good news and reveals for us all tomorrow at 5pm!

I'd expect firm release dates for upcoming games in all regions, some news on upcoming DLC aswell as one or two surprise game announcements. Nothing on the scale of Mario Galaxy 3 for instance though, which is a shame.

Re: Wii U Premium Bundles Most Popular in UK Launch

THENAMESNORM

I got the ZombiU Bundle with NSMBU, Nintendo Land and Sonc & All Stars Racing Transformed. I'd already played ZombiU, NSMBU & Nintendo Land at an event, but loved them all, however the surprise package for me is Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed! A real gem of a game with enough depth that I'll be happy until Mario Kart U comes along! Plus it's one of the cheaper games!!

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th November 2012 (Europe) - Wii U Edition

THENAMESNORM

Whilst I do agree with most of the above comments that £50 is too much for a digital only download, i would also point out that most of the prices seem to match the R.R.P's for most of the games.

I should also point out that for quite a while now the PSN and XBLA have had retail games available for digital download and they are anywhere up to £60!! THATS ridiculous! Rayman Legends was getting grea reviews, and on the PSN it was £57.99. The very same day I checked the price I could pick it up in Sainsburys for £19.99, and Game had it for £24.99!

This was a while ago, but it's important to note that whilst the prices are at the top end of the scale, they seem more reasonable compared to others. Let's hope that some of these games go on sale at some point - Portal 2 was on sale on XBLA last week for £11.99!!

Re: Wii U Version Of 007 Legends Canned In Australia

THENAMESNORM

I think it was too big an ask for 007 Legends to be multiplatform and as good as Goldeneye. Goldeneye was great(not just because I loved the N64 one it was inspired by) but the Wii was the only focus for it, then after it's success was ported to the 360/ps3. For the follow up - only a year later, and now multiplatform from launch, and the Wii now abandoned - it's taken several steps backwards. The missions are often repetitive and unclear with what the objectives are, but the bottom line was I just didn't enjoy it. I thoroughly enjoyed Goldeneye on both the Wii and 360, but Legends just isn't comparable.

Re: Pier Solar Kickstarter Campaign Successful, Wii U Port Added As New Stretch Goal

THENAMESNORM

@stuffgamer1 your right, we should pledge......however I get my WiiU tomorrow and will be consumed by it's greatness for the weekend no doubt, so I'll maybe have a think and pledge on Sunday or Monday(I think it runs until Wednesday??) I have a 360 I could get if for as a fall back but I'd much rather a WiiU version was made, however I think my pledge would be the $45 one that gets me the 360 version, PC version and mp3 soundtrack! I'd like to see more support from people though. The $150k target is virtually assured as I type this($149,120 is already pledged) so fingers crossed over the weekend it builds some steam!

Re: Review: ZombiU (Wii U)

THENAMESNORM

ONM in the UK gave it 92% and several other reviews I've read have been positive too, though I do agree that this seems to be the best and most balanced review.

I was lucky enough to play ZombiU at Braehead in Glasgow and it was great. I had already pre-ordered the ZombiU bundle and now I cannot wait to pick it up!

Re: Dangerously Infectious ZombiU App Now Available On iOS

THENAMESNORM

This app is great. I saw the banner message advertising the app yesterday, but couldn't find it on the app store! When I downloaded it it was the 8th App listed for a search under ZombiU, which is strange. Great app though, i feel it would have been better if you could use the outer camera on the iPhone though so someone else could take the photo! It's too difficult to get me cat lined up with the inner one!!!

Re: Halting Wii U System Update May Brick the System

THENAMESNORM

@erv I agree that the user interface for the downloads will probably need some work, however as I am a UK resident I still have to wait for my WiiU to properly check it out. I would have assumed that a warning message of some kind comes up to ask people not to power off their console??

Also, people need to bear in mind that launch day is when almost everyone will be updating and it will therefore take longer than someone doing it in a weeks time. I'm not saying wait a week to update, I'm just reminding people that this is just one of the downsides of a day one purchase.

And as MisterRJ45 suggested, it's an ideal tie to start charging your GamePad, and take SpaceKappas advice and get some chores done while BOTH of these things are happening!

Re: Halting Wii U System Update May Brick the System

THENAMESNORM

@erv this is the price we pay for getting the console when we want it. Doing it this way (some key features missing from the WiiU out the box) probably allowed Nintendo to manufacture consoles far earlier than otherwise, and if true then I would estimate that it would have been a 2013 launch had it not been done this way.

Re: Halting Wii U System Update May Brick the System

THENAMESNORM

Yeah whenever I update my PS3 it always tells me not to power down until the update is complete, or the system may not be able to power back on!

@PeterW77 the WiiU does NOT have an ethernet port, however the USB LAN adapter for the Wii(which I have) will work with the Wii U.

Re: Ubisoft Boss Thinks Wii U Is Cheap, But Is Still Unhappy On Pricing

THENAMESNORM

I paid £424 for my PS3 almost 6 months after launch and I got two budget games and 2 budget blu rays with it. For £100 LESS some 5 years on I am getting a WiiU with what appears to be a blockbuster game(ZombiU) a Pro Controller and the GamePad(which will probably cost around £100 when it's released on it's own!) so although I would love it to be cheaper, I don't feel I'm being robbed.

Re: You'll Need To Update Your Wii U To Play Wii Games

THENAMESNORM

Historically Nintendo have done all they can to prevent consumers in the minority from being left out. Several games for the Wii contained some form of update for the system, I believe that key titles such as NSMBU and Nintendo Land will come with any required updates, however that is just an educated guess.
