I love this game, I really do. But I'd be lying if I said the load times didn't affect my enjoyment of it. That being said, a great game is a great game so I'll def be buying it.
Gamestop Ireland currently have the game listed at 7.99 Euros, and they deliver to the UK. (for £7.50) whether they honour the price remains to be seen. Smyths toy store in the UK have Mario Tennis Ultra Smash for WiiU at £10 if anyone is interested!
I like it! As always I'm not a big fan of change however the important thing is that the great content stays great. However you want to dress it up is fine by me.
It's only happening when the inside of the joy con is covered, perhaps thats where the bluetooth tech is on the controller? I'd guess having the joy-con strap connected would eradicate this happening??
This is great news! World of Goo was great and Little Inferno was one of my favourite indie games on Wii U so I'll have to pick them up again and try the 3rd too!
My favourite Bomberman game without doubt it Mega Bomberman on the Mega-Drive (or Bomberman '94 on the Turbografx via Wii's VC!!) and although I prefer the old pixelated bomberman games I am glad this one is shaping up the way it is. I do agree that £50/$50 is expensive but everything is only worth what you are willing to pay, and I am willing to pay for this so count me in!
@AlternateButtons I couldn't have put it better myself, I'm sick of seeing so many people whining about something and they don't even know how much it is going to cost them! A few people need to calm down I think but you've restored my faith that there are some sane people here too!
Great game, extra racers with a proper battle mode and battle arenas. Throw in a few new power ups to boot, and what's not to like? MK8 is an amazing game, and if it's between a remastered definitive version and no MK for a few years I'd easily take the remaster.
With the WiiU's small install base there will be millions of players that never got to play it, so giving them this great game in the launch window with all the DLC is a great move, and one plenty of other companies have done in the past. Look at Gears of War and Halo as examples on the xbox, The last of us and uncharted on PS4. If you think its a con then dont buy it. But don't be naive in thinking Nintendo have invented a new way to suck money out of players by doing this. On almost every list of what people wanted from Switch when it was known as NX was a constant flow of software, including ports and remasters mixed in with new releases. That's whats happening, and it's going to be a fantastic thing in my opinion.
@Moeblob fair enough and no worries. You're dead right, the information is being drip fed and one of the problems with the WiiU launch for me was a complete lack of understanding on how the system would work prior to launch, and I hope this isn't the same.
On the plus side, I believe there are lots of reveals to come in the 6 weeks or so until launch, and I expect new information will be available on different aspects of the console on pretty much a daily basis!
For example, the Virtual Console is pretty much confirmed by the snippets of info about the online subscription that we have already, but to my knowledge there's been no official confirmation from Nintendo on this and no mention of it. I was particularly looking forward to that being revealed last week, with the hopes of previous Wii and WiiU purchases either carrying over or available for a huge discount and the announcement of Gamecube games. But I'm confident we'll get good news on that front in the coming weeks.
@Moeblob as always, someone negative. And you've not bothered to read the comment or don't understand it. I was highlighting an overlooked part of the story in my opinion. In my opinion. Not fact or anything, my view.
How can you and so many others be critical of something that has not even been confirmed yet - price! Once we know the price, we will have a better idea of the value it represents. Let's not forget that Xbox Live never used to give anything other than a stellar online platform, and they have responded to Sony's fantastic PS Plus offering of up to 6 games per month.
I actually own a WiiU, Xbox One S and PS4 and I have pre-ordered Switch. I have no problem subscribing to all of the online services as long as they represent good value for money. Right now, I have had 2 free games in the last six months from PS Plus that has grabbed my attention, and 4 from Games with Gold. Is that value to me? Well the online functionality is great on those consoles so I can't complain. Whilst the WiiU and 3DS online service are a bit behind, they are FREE and as such I cannot complain about that either.
So please, everyone calm themselves down until we know what value we will get, and remember that online services will be FREE for the first 6 months or so to try out.
@gaga64 oh my god thank you for mentioning that as everywhere I have seen report this exact same story have all just ignored the whole "with added online play" bit. That's HUGE!! Super Mario Kart with online races? Or perhaps they are meaning leaderboards for time trials as an example. Either way, online functionality for NES and SNES games is great i my opinion, and why it's not the part grabbing the headlines is beyond me.
I Paid £330 for my WiiU however I would have expected a pack-in title with Switch for that price. However, I know I'll still pay it. Everything is only worth what someone is willing to pay, so we will see over time if it is a mistake or not.
WiiU had plenty of quality games, however the majority were made by Nintendo so better 3rd party games (which it seems will be coming!!) and more frequent releases from Nintendo of the same high standard (which again is likely to happen)
Jeez, I really hate reading all these negative comments, but let's put it into perspective - £7.00 or $9.99 is waaaaaaaayyyyy below the price most people would have paid for a full retail version of NSMB on any format, so whats the problem?
This is such a great game, and I think the score reflects how good a game it is. The drop in the score from the Wii U iteration shows it's slightly inferior, but a fantastic game in its own right. Lets not forget that a great game minus some features plus some features equals a great game.
I really love this game and I'm excited to try it again on Switch. I have nothing against what appears to be a high number of ports, as they have all been excellent games that are announced so far. And it is quite common too for games to span multiple generations. What excites me most is the though of the cream of WiiU titles being available so close to launch for Switch. over 8m copies of MK8 sold with an install base of just under 13m is incredible, but how many people haven't yet tried some triple A WiiU titles yet? Yes, I'd prefer a sequel but this is not bad news, in fact I welcome it.
Bought this yesterday, still got my original cartridge and the Wii VC version.
I have to be honest, I thought that I was just out of touch with the game but now reading this it seems that it is an actual issue. I never had such an issue before, and the speed/accel screen can really only be used with the D-Pad. Still, I have faith it will be addressed.
I'm going to try the new 8bitdo N64 bluetooth controller once it arrives to see if there's a difference. Why haven't you guys covered that yet?
@Mart1ndo I'd say this book is written for people like you then! N64 is by far and away my favourite console, and I consider myself very knowledge-able on the console, but there's plenty here for experts too. I promise you it is worth it.
I got this on PS4 a few weeks back with a PS+ discount, but i really feel with the map on the Gamepad at all times that it will be a better experience, so I'm double dipping just as I did with Dig!
@maceng Jeez, the fact that you're disappointed with a 9 shows you feel it's a great game, and most others seem to agree, but like others have tried to help you understand - a review is someone's opinion. Your opinion is not that different so whats the problem? If you're wanting others to accept your opinion then you must also in turn accept and respect theirs too.
If this comes to Europe then I'll def be buying it, great review and I'm completely sold on it!
This is excellent, really love that people devote time to projects like this. Nintendo will never release something like this with it's functionality, however If they did I'd buy it. That being said, I pre-ordered the NES Mini so they've got my money anyway!
I'd love a Dual Screen option with a difference - one that can display front and back! This would eliminate the need for split screen multiplayer, however how feasable it would be I don't know.
Is it wrong that this really excites me?? Fire Emblem 64 would be awesome, but other than any unreleased N64 game would be my next choice. I just wish Nintendo would localize some 64DD games and release them on the VC! Surely it can't be that hard for them??
@teoulas That's exactly what I was thinking too! I'd hope we are getting the exact same units at the US as it's powered by USB, and supports HDMI therefore there would be no reason to have different builds for different countries. I just hope it can be updated with new games, or new games can somehow be downloaded. But otherwise it's a great surprise!
As much as I'm excited for the game and would love to have tried the demo, I'm sure in time it will arrive in some form on the eShop.
What angers me is that so many people want to play this game, and Nintendo made a big deal of getting as many people to try it as possible, yet this moron just wants to steal the code, and for what?? Some fame? Did the "hacker" even play the demo? Or just mess around with the Wii U units? What a waste of time.
And even if the demo was released to everyone online, would it even perform the way its supposed to? It's surely a tiny community that would benefit from it too, and the real fans should really only want to play the game from a genuine source and support Nintendo in making such an ambitious game.
I'm glad nothing appears to have come from this, if it is true of course.
I have to say I think this game is great. I've always loved the Mario vs Donkey Kong Series, and it's great to get a free version of it! I'm just glad I have all the required Amiibo!
@Socar The Wii U WarioWare game is actually Game & Wario, and it's pretty decent!!
However, I'm surprised there's been no new Mario Strikers or Excite Truck/Bots until now. Here's hoping!! I'd even take an Excite Truck/Bots Wii VC download, given the incredible ExciteBots was never released here in Europe originally!!
Great game, the multi-player was truly inspired too. Such a shame it didn't sell as well as hoped but I'd love to see more people pick this up and play it.
@ThomasBW84 I'd agree - I've had Shadow Wars since launch and have been waiting for a sale in the UK eShop to buy the download copy. It kept me going whilst waiting for Fire Emblem Awakening! Brilliant game.
Whilst I always want a bargain, and this price is certainly one of the highest non-retail downloads, people need to remember that this game is still priced at around 33% of a full retail release, and if the first game is anything to go by (which was one of the bargains of the century when it re-launched on the Wii U by the way, although most seem to have forgotten it's rock bottom price.....Don't Ronimo games deserve recognition for that price tag?) then there will be plenty of content to justify this price.
I'm convinced this will be a quality game, and I'm personally happy to be a little more for a bit more quality.
@BarryDunne It's just the four games released today that are in the deal, so any future releases won't be free if you buy 3 of them before the deadline
My first choice would be F-Zero X. Phenominal game. After that I'd love Donkey Kong 64 and Snowboard Kids(maybe including the second one, never released in Europe!)
