The Advance Wars-inspired turn-based title Tiny Metal has now received its free multiplayer update, and some lovely holiday discounts mean that there's never been a better time to buy the game.
This fresh multiplayer update, which was originally planned to arrive back in May, allows players to choose from 11 different maps and take on their friends online in competitive multiplayer - a much-wanted feature for the game. Also making its way to the game in this update is ACT V, an extension to the story campaign which introduces six new missions.
Hiroaki Yura, of developer Area 35, has said the following in a press release today:
“TINY METAL already delivers a great single player experience with deep, nostalgia-inducing gameplay reminiscent of Advance Wars. Now we’re taking it a step further, enhancing what’s already there while opening it up to the new opportunities for fun and strategy that can only come from playing against another human being.”
To celebrate the release of the new content, Tiny Metal will be available from the Nintendo eShop at 50% off in North America from today until 8th January. Players in Europe will also be able to snag this offer from the 7th January until the 18th.

Nice. I'd forgotten about this.
Too little too late for me. Waiting eagerly for Wargroove.
It really is a great strategy game. Definitely worth it with the sale going on.
Oh wow!, I just checked this last weekend to see if it was on sale
$12.49 - Sold!... Thanks NL! 👍
Wargroove is the one I'm really waiting for, but maybe with the discounted price I could give this one a spin too.
Very disappointing game. No, this late coming multiplayer patch will not save it. Save your 12$ for other games
I just want EShop money for Christmas and the time to play the games. I'm not asking too much am I?
Nice been waiting for this!
@Ralizah I still really like it, just be quick to read the subtitles. At 50% off it's a steal too. It really did scratch that itch for me well enough.
@Spoony_Tech Nice. Might have to download it, then. I imagine we're still a few months out from WarGroove, and I really do prefer the modern, military style of this game.
Excellent game. Really looking forward to Wargroove too but this game was great, glad to see there's more campaign missions too!
Loved this game, not quite Advance Wars but a good game.
I bought this with high hopes. I love the art style and the Advance Wars type combat. I'm not sure the computer is very intelligent however, and largely wins because it starts in key positions with lots of units while you typically start with little. It is a fun game and I think the multiplayer will make it significantly better since playing against another person will bring a challenge the AI does not. Overall a solid buy but it has its flaws. I am really looking forward to Wargroove, but I would love a compilation of Advance Wars games (Advance Wars All Stars?) or more preferably a new Advance Wars Switch game.
This game is a fantastic take on the Advance Wars formula
I put about 25 hours into this and completely forgot about it until today, looking for GoNNeR in my Past Downloads.
It's actually very solid and has some interesting units and dynamics, but protracted battles of attrition can happen pretty fast compared to Advance Wars against the AI.
Considering Wargroove is a no-show for 2018 or the forseeable future, I can recommended it for AW fans at that price.
Is the multi player only online or is this couch co-op as well?
I found it hard to get into this. It might be Advance Wars inspired, but the game didn't have the easy on the eyes visuals, or the smooth gameplay of its inspiration.
Like @Kalmaro I am eagerly awaiting Wargroove, which appears much much closer to the Advance Wars inspiration.
I also dream of either ports of the older AW titles or a new on on Switch. Although if Intelligent Systems did revive Fire Emblem's long lost cousin, I'd prefer them to follow Square Enix's example and go with "HD2D" and bring back the cast of the AW, AW2 and Dual Strike. I didn't like that they started over with a new cast in Days of Ruin.
@Heavyarms55 agreed fully. Though for half off it might be worth a try for some, there’s definitely AW fans who enjoy this, I just felt it wasn’t really as polished and looked more generic. Lacked enough personality, control sensitivity was too high so I constantly went right past what I wanted to select... it ended up coming to a bunch of nitpicks that individually weren’t a big deal but added up to enough for me to lose interest in it. Hoping Wargroove scratches the AW itch better.
@Spiders I mean it’s only 3 months until Wargroove releases, I wouldn’t say it’s not in the foreseeable future. I by no means am telling people not to buy this or enjoy it, but nothing wrong with people waiting a few more months to have another choice that could potentially shine better. Half off isn’t a bad deal though, I wouldn’t have regretted my purchase as much if I paid that price.
Into the Breach has my strategy itch covered. It's very nice and very cheap! I bought it recently during the Game awards sale (aprox $100 Mexican pesos) for what's converted to roughly 5 US dollars.
Looks like I'll finally purchase this game. I'm a HEE-UGE Advance Wars fan, so looking forward to this.
Doesn't appear to be on sale in Europe / Netherlands..
Finally! And a new story as well? Nice.
I liked this game a lot, filled the void left by Advance Wars. Not as good as its inspiration, but had a few good ideas (like the Lock On mechanic; shame that AI couldn't use it).
I can see why multiplayer would be online only, this game relies a lot on Fog of War, unlike Advance Wars, where it's an optional rule.
It's probably a bit late for this game to make an impact, as the Switch eShop is swamped by releases by now. But who knows, maybe this will push the game a bit.
The stuttering frame-rate killed it for me.
I got halfway through the campaign but it was such a hassle to play.
Buy Into the Breach instead.
@Zimon isn't it A TURN BASED Strategy game? If so who cares if it stutters and has frame rate problems that doesn't mess up your ability to win
@Kalmaro it feels like its Ben so long waiting on that game.....oh wait it has. I hope it cones out soon.
