It has been confirmed that Chucklefish's highly-anticipated turn-based tactical game Wargroove will hit the Switch eShop on February 1st – that's next Friday, in case you were wondering. You can pre-order it now.
Initially announced quite some time ago, Wargroove takes inspiration from the likes of Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, tasking you with controlling a series of units and their commanders across several increasingly difficult battlefields.
As well as a robust single-player story mode, the game promises four-player multiplayer and the ability to build your own missions and campaigns; you can even construct your own cutscenes.
Given the level of excitement surrounding this gorgeous-looking (and sadly delayed) tactical epic, we imagine this news will please a lot of you. Let us know if you'll be downloading Wargroove by posting a comment below.

Make a new advance wars Nintendo!
Yes! Yes yes yes yes yes yes x 200
Common Physical
Excited, but I'm also currently enraptured with a grid-based strategy game called 'Into The Breach', and 'Dragon Marked For Death' comes out the day before.
Whoever says Switch has no games has bad taste. This is getting ridiculous.
Preordering tonight!
About time! Been looking forward to this ever since I first heard about it around when Switch was originally released.
Hopefully this can fill the void left by Advance Wars.
Looks so good. Hopfully Nintendo is taking notes and paying close attention to how well this sells to see if they should do another Advance Wars. I would love to see one yet they just dont sell as well as you would think.
Not sure if I'll grab it at launch or not but I likely will at some point at least unless there's something significantly wrong with it. It's been a long time coming but nice to see it finally releasing. Price is reasonable.
I know I said I wasn't buying games ‘til Fire Emblem...but this is close enough right, right? (whatever I tell myself to sleep at night....)
Also, I need a money tree.
I probably won't prepurchase, but I'll definitely be downloading this sometime next month.
Is it just me, or did the animations greatly improve since the last time they showed it?
Ohhhh yeah! Day one.
I've been waiting for this with anticipation for 2 years. Love these styles of games. Day 1 purchase for me!!
Day 1, already preordered.
No brainer... Pre-ordered!
been looking forward to this for a while!!
Day 1!!! This looks Balls-Out-Blaztastic!
9/10 times when the trailer doesn't show any actual game play footage, the game is going to suck!
@Grant007 1/10 is pretty decent odds for this one then
I’m glad this is waiting until payday to come out. January is a loooooong month!
@Grant007
There are many videos showing gameplay. It’s been know about for almost 2 years. Also it’s the same publishers as Stardew valley. Like Team17 they are quite reputable for the games they release.
This is one of those games that I can confidently say will be very good.
@Ziggy93 good to hear, I will check it out
And only 16,99 moneys!!! I would easy pay 49,99 for it.
Bring it on! Might preorder.
Man I love indie games. They're inexpensive and offer some of the best experiences these days.
Me gusta mmmmm
(@rjejr I'll reserve this part till I look into your point)
I'll Stick with Legrand Legacy (Switch) and Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4) combo for February.
At least we made it to the 90s (or even early 00s) on Switch with Legrand Legacy 😉
@Agramonte As a man who abhors 8 bit pixel art, I'd say this is more cel-shaded than pixel art. Inmost and CrossCode are pixel art. This game has a lot of solid colored areas where you dont' see the pixels, 8 bit pixel art games these days you never have solid colored areas, every single pixel is visible, it gives me a headache.
Anybody know how this game is going to play out? I liked Advance Wars and Mecho Wars in part b/c each level took 20-30 minutes. IN this game those huge levels look more like 90 minutes to beat. I don't really have the patience for 90 minute long battles, even if there are save points along the way. My kid is trying to talk me into "Into the Breach" instead b/c he says those smaller levels look more fun. I told him that one was too pixelated for me, which is now funny considering how this comment started.
Yes, I'm in. Now who do we need to speak to about Langrisser 1/2?
@rjejr hmmm, interesting - you could be right there - 🤔
I draw the line at games like Breath of Fire IV... I remember that is when I thought RPG graphics on a home console had turned a corner to something I could deal with.
Have you tried Tiny Metal? I just got it recently (well more like, last week)- not played much but the graphics are nice and clean.
@rjejr Hey also, in case you missed it
https://gematsu.com/2018/12/ys-ix-monstrum-nox-announced-for-ps4
Not sure what will be first - this, or Ys8 on sale on Switch 😂
Really? I have KH3 next week. Ah well, guess I’ll pick this up sometime later...
@Agramonte Thanks for the link, first I've heard of it.
Not a fan of the name though, sounds like canceled FFXV DLC.
Agh! I needs it!
@Agramonte Tiny Metal
Funny story about that one. I saw it advertised about a week ago and couldn't remember if I had played it or not. I kind of feel like I did, but I dont' think I did. I also don't think it's an old PS3 game which is where I remember playing it.
I gotta tell ya, this whole "getting old" thing is killing my gaming habit. After watching the "Indie Highlights' with my son on Switch we browsed the eShop. I was telling him how a generation ago on PS3 I was playing a ton of great indie games that were all either $4.99 or $9.99 tops, no company would go higher than $9.99 digital or everybody would be complaining about the price. Now $14.99 is a minimum for a lot of these games, most are $19.99, freaking Goat Simulator is $30. $30 is my buy price for God of War, Spiderman or Witcher 3. And with the weekly, sometimes twice weekly, sales on PSN it's hard for me to pay more than $4.99 for anything these days. I'll buy Nintendo 1st party stuff for $48 day 1 b/c it will be $60 for 3 more years but I'm not paying $20 for any indie which I feel will be $10 in a few months.
On the bright side, lots of sales on Switch eShop, so I can buy stuff, even if NO has a long way to go before it's getting games like PS+ does.
@rjejr Levels have to be longer than 15 minutes, but shorter than 60 minutes. Also not too pixelated, and also the name of the game can't sound like anything else. Also...it has to be on sale. haha. Man you're picky haha.
@Spiders They have GREAT GREAT GREAT indie games. Problem is...I get bored with the scale and scope when it feels like indies are 70 percent of what we get when the majority of the other 30 percent are games a lot of us have already played or can get cheaper elsewhere. I want it more balanced cuz that imbalance is getting ridiculous.
Glad that release date now been confirmed, day one for me.
@itslukec Man you're picky
Extremely picky. Very extremely picky even. I know what I like, no time, or money, for the rest.
@rjejr into the breach isn't bad, but I found it quite repetitive after a while. It's definitely a brisk game - you can complete an entire game in under 2hrs - and then you replay using a different squad to change up the gameplay. It's also fairly easy - I "won" on my second attempt, and won virtually every other campaign from then onwards. Might be perfect for kids.
Unless the price is ridiculous, or the reviews bite - I'm getting this. Huge advance wars fan. Been a while since I played a "chess style" (no rolls) compared to a fire emblem style (rolls) game.
@Grant007 It is a Cinematic Trailer...... if you have not noticed.
@rjejr lol!!!! It does sound like a canceld FF DLC
I'm still waiting for SpiderMan to hit 29.99. I know it will happen. For now can do Assassin Creed Odessey for $25 😉
They did get me with Kingdom Hearts 3... They even made me go with the LE. Im a sucker for ArtBooks 🤦♂️
@rjejr
"I know what I like, no time, or money, for the rest"
👍
@Cathousemaster Thanks for the low-down. My son wants it, he's into strategy stuff, but he doesn't have as much time as he used to, HS keeps him much busier than MS ever did. And when he does have time he'd rather play something like XC2. He just wants a little something for when he has a few minutes here or there. You make this sound perfect for him, I'll pass it on.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST NEWS!!!! YAY!
@Agramonte I was so into KH for so long. I think I would have been Day 1 on KH3 had it released like 2 years ago. But Christmas 2017, so 14 months ago, I bought the 1+2 collection on PS4 and still haven't touched it yet. So I need to play those 6 games, and 2.8, before I look at KH3. So probably $5 on PS5.
When Spiderman released I decided that would be my first game on PS5, so I'm waiting. Not making the same mistake on PS5 I made on Switch. I own 3 of the top 5 Switch games on Wii U, MK8, NSMBU, Zelda, among others, and since I dont' double dip I have little to play. Well I had little to play until Christmas, plenty now. So if PS5 starts off like the PS4 and Switch, 18 months of ports before the new games come out, I'll have Spiderman ready at least. And KH3.
I also still need to play from my backlog The Witcher 3 and Tomb Raider 2. And a half dozen others I forget. I really don't need another new game, or system, for about 5 years.
Great. Looking forward to this. I will wait for a review. I trust this developer but want to be sure before parting with the hard earned cash
You would think this game would be an instant win but games like Mecho wars garnered medium response, tho it should have gotten better, also on the DS Tom Clancys End War on the DS was very Advance war like but do you ever hear about that? noooooooo I will get this day 1 and hope this is a massive success.
I just need one burning question answered: Is the dog a playable character?
@rjejr
I never play a game over. Once I see all the bosses/levels or know how the Story ends I'm done. Why I sell my games after completed.
Well, I have a suspicion upgraded versions of The Last of Us 2 and Death Standing will be PS5 launch titles. If that is the case, I'll break down and get it on day 1
I'll cave for Yoji Shinkawa art 😆
I got my PS4 day 1 back in 2013... And skipped the Slim and PRO. It is due for an upgrade anyway.
@Grant007 while normally I would agree, Chucklefish has been releasing footage of Wargroove for years. You can easily YouTube clips and tutorials on the game. Plenty out there to check out.
Been interested in this game since 2017 reveal. Does anyone know the price for Switch?
@Dang69 I've gone the other way. Indies used to fill the gaps in the bigger games, but now I'm having as much fun (if not more) and saving money getting indies and rarely getting sucked into some AAA hype title.
Save Nintendo's of course.
Yes! Finally!
It will be my first indie game since gunman clive on 3DS!
I want this and Fire Emblem.
@Agramonte "I got my PS4 day 1 back in 2013"
I got my PS4 a couple of years ago when the Slim came out and they had the Uncharted 4 bundle on sale for the holiday since I was buying the system for that game anyway it worked out well.
For the past 20 years I've alternated purchasing Nintneod and Sony consoles, w/ a Dreamcast and X1 in there as well. I usually buy the Nintendo consoles near launch and Sony consoles a couple of years later as they usually start out more expensive but drop in price fairly quickly. Really not sure when I'll get a PS5, need some facts first - launch date, price, backwards compatibility, launch window titles. Pretty much everything.
@rjejr Fair enough haha
@rjejr I always get a Nintendo+SONY combo each generation. Now they in a different release schedule it works out really well.
I also skipped every $60 old port on Switch in 2017, 2018 (and same will be true in 2019) so I think I saved enough money to justify my PS5 😉
Backward compatibility and RayTracing would be amazing.
Finally! Something to scratch that Advance Wars itch I've been having for... How long now? Since 2008? Oof!
Nintendo, give us a new Advance Wars and/or remaster some old ones.
@Agramonte "Now they in a different release schedule it works out really well."
Yup, Switch Oct 2017, PS5 holiday 2020 I think, Switch 2 should be two years after that. I'm done w/ Xboxen.
@mozzy1 Advance Wars: Days of Switch
@rjejr I'll probably go with PC gaming throughout the next generation. I missed out on more than I've gained by sticking with my consoles.
@HollowGrapeJ Here's my take on console vs. PC gaming
52" 1080p tv, 5.1 speakers, comfy couch > 21" screen, stereo speakers, cheap desk chair
It's really no contest.
And while admittedly some games are better w/ a mouse & keyboard than a controller I just don't play those games. Nothing controls worse than Pokemon Let's Go Eevee in docked mode though, it's barley playable.
@rjejr Yeah, I get what you're saying. But, you can have it both ways too if you want. Connect the PC to the TV and all that and it works similarly.
@HollowGrapeJ "too much work"
That's our family motto. We are one sorry sack of lazy people. 🤣
@rjejr It's okay. Some people just prefer consoles. Nothing really wrong with that. I'm just kinda tired of the same old console cycle, you know. Dropping another few hundred on a new console based on exclusives and promises for the future, etc.
For me, it's the flexibility and customization that plays a big part in it. No one's PC has to be the same whereas everyone has to choose the console they put out. Changing the graphical settings to what I want and using different controllers like the 360 pad and Switch Pro Controller.
It's so awesome. It feels like I get much more value out of it even though it initially costs more. It pays off in the long run. I was considering a One X though. I love the power and backwards compatibility. But, I thought it'd make me happier to return to PC gaming.
@HollowGrapeJ I was like that back in the 90's. Building my own PC, installing Linux, getting everything to run, then going back to Windows b/c no game I wanted to play would run on Linux. 🤣 Then constantly replacing my CPU, RAM, videocard. I had plenty of free time and money and took enjoyment building my own PC on the cheap that was better than what was out there. Then I got married and bought a house, and sunk all my hours into remodeling that, even quit my job to spend more time getting the house the way we wanted it and getting it ready for the baby.
After all that, I was like "screw this nonsense", I'm buying an HP PC and a PS2, started our family motto "too much work". 😃
Enjoy what you do while your doing it, ya never know what you'll enjoy tomorrow.
@rjejr Haha, nice. That's perfectly understandable. Even for me, sometimes it's nice to just turn on a console and play after a day full of work and taking care of other things. I'm still young and have a bit more flexibility with my free time. But, I'd like to keep doing this as I get older too along with other things like watching anime.
@HollowGrapeJ anime is good. Dont' watch much anymore but my son talked me into One Punch Man which was good. Most of my free time these days is spent trying to rewatch 7 seasons of Game of Thrones in 3 months. There's going to be a big whole in my life after season 8 ends in May. But I'll fill it quickly enough.
