Re: Review In Progress: Mario Kart World (Switch 2) - The Perfect Introduction To A New Console Generation?

Switch_Pro

Did people really expect this to completely change everything about Mario Kart? That sounds a little delusional, especially with the success of the series. They need to keep everything people love and then add more stuff. I absolutely love the free roam mode, it is much better than I expected based on what we saw on trailers, and by far the best single player content the Mario Kart series has ever had. There is literally nothing to complain about in my opinion, other than the price maybe, but at £40 bundled, I am happy.

Re: Physical 'Switch 2 Editions' Confirmed To Have Everything On The Game Card, Says Nintendo

Switch_Pro

I said this when the news first broke out, but customer support people would not be privy to this kind of information so far ahead of time. Assuming the screenshot was even a real email. Nintendo is one of the most secretive companies in the entire world, they do not earn this reputation by sharing information about their new platform with the lowest tier of staff before they have even showcased the damn thing, that is a surefire way for everything to leak.

Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2

Switch_Pro

This seems like an overreaction. However, he is not entirely wrong. Not that it means "Nintendoom" on any level, but Nintendo needs to be careful not to lose track of what always makes them unique. Judging by the games they've shown, I don't think this is the case, though, they seem as inventive and imaginative as ever. Sure, the Switch 2 might be somewhat predictable, but so was the Gameboy Advance for example.

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch 2's Launch Price Compare To Past Nintendo Systems?

Switch_Pro

I don't think the Nintendo Switch 2 is particularly overpriced for what it is, maybe it could be $50 less or something, and eventually it might be, but that isn't a crazy difference. However, adjusting for inflation is a very simplistic way of looking at things, because while inflation might very well be an equation, our wages do not increase proportionately with inflation, so goods are still more expensive, even though they might technically have the same value based on the currency's value. The tax bands in UK are still the same as years ago when inflation was not this bad.

Re: Zelda Wind Waker Switch 2 GameCube Release Doesn't Rule Out HD Port

Switch_Pro

I would bet big money that Wind Waker will be re-released on the Switch 2, as will Twilight Princess. It's been a while since the Wii U versions. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo also does Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask remasters too, borrowing from the 3DS versions as a base and throwing a 3rd coat of paint.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Comments On Switch 2's "Hefty" Price Hikes

Switch_Pro

Like it or not, he is right. Especially for us that grew up with 90's games prices, this doesn't even feel like a particularly crazy price point given 2025's currency inflation. If anything, I think we were paying too little for games like Breath of the Wild, Smash Ultimate, Baldur's Gate 3, and others where you could play hundreds of hours for just $60. At the end of the day, the market will decide if this was a good business move or not.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Weighs In On 'Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Controversy (Sort Of)

Switch_Pro

Out of all the controversies about Switch 2's pricing, this is the only one that I cannot possibly justify. I mean, sure, from a business point of view, I do understand: they invested time and effort in it, so they want to be compensated accordingly. However, from a product perspective, it just doesn't make sense. Putting a pricetag on Welcome Tour basically guarantees that most people will skip it, and that's a real shame, because it could have been additional incentive to buy the console and give the console some character. Very similar to the Face Raiders and other apps that came packed in with the 3DS.

Re: Nintendo Delays Switch 2 Pre-Orders In The US Amidst New Trump Tariffs

Switch_Pro

Nintendo likely won't want to only tax US customers a lot more than everyone else, because then they are risking completely losing their foothold in the US market. They might attempt to spread out the tariff cost evenly across the globe to an extent. In fact, I would not be shocked if this is already factored into the existing RRP prices to de-risk the situation.

Re: The Switch 2 Will Emulate Switch Games, Because It Shares No Internal Hardware With Its Predecessor

Switch_Pro

This can potentially be a very good thing, as we might get free performance boost as a result of the additional power on the Switch 2. When you incorporate original hardware, you are capped at what you can do, outside certain things like faster storage for loading times, and of course, the cost of the console would be higher, too. The negative side effect is that it might lead to some compatibility issues, which they will hopefully sort out.

Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?

Switch_Pro

The reason why games were $60 for a very long time was quite simply that the industry was steadily growing. They could afford to not increase the prices, because they sold more games with every new generation of consoles. This is simply not happening anymore. The industry peaked during Covid and is now in recession. People need a bit of a reality check. A Big Mac Meal is nearly $10 these days. Inflation is a thing, and expecting companies to just accept to take home less money just doesn't make any sense. Is it difficult to stomach? Absolutely. I don't ever want to pay $90 for a physical copy, and maybe I won't, hopefully, due to retailer competition. But if you want the highest quality games, you MUST accept that $90 today is $60 of 10 years ago, sadly. Otherwise you will just have to settle for indie games, or AI slop.

Re: Nintendo Is (Kinda) Returning To Region-Locking With A Cheaper Japanese Switch 2

Switch_Pro

It's very nice of Nintendo to have a special arrangement for the Japanese market because of JPY's current valuation. Frankly, nobody would blame them if they kept parity, but they went the extra mile for their own country, which is great. I don't know how the pricing will go down in the west, but in Japan, Nintendo Switch 2 will definitely sell like absolute hotcakes.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 'Game-Key Cards' Somehow Manage To Make Codes-In-A-Box Worse

Switch_Pro

I don't think this is "the worst of all worlds". Plenty of Switch games had "download required". This is nothing new. It's just much clearer on the box, which is good for the consumer. If you want a fully digital game, buy it on the eShop.

Now, what would be bad, is if this is becomes more common practice, which it might, especially as games keep getting larger on average. However, companies need to realize that if they want people to buy physical games, which in many cases means double-dipping, they need to include the full game on cart.

Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting

Switch_Pro

Nintendo is clearly testing the waters with these prices and will adjust accordingly, if needed. The physical prices do have me more worried than the digital ones. I am a big proponent of physical media and I never buy digital when given the option. I've paid premium for physical many times before, and will continue to do so, but nearly £80 is a lot. It's as if they are looking an excuse to drop physical altogether. But, more realistically, they passed on the extra cost that comes with cartridges and distribution to the consumer. I am hoping competition at retailers will drive this down to something more digestible.

Re: Uh Oh, Switch 2's Home Screen Looks Just As Bland As We Feared

Switch_Pro

You call it "bland", I call it "clean". I don't need anything more than this. It probably supports additional views if you have loads of games, just like the original Switch. If you've ever tried to navigate PlayStation's recent menus, you will know this is significantly less bloated and more user friendly.
