Re: Soapbox: Game Freak Could Actually Learn A Thing Or Two From Palworld

@Jeronan GameFreak is also a small studio. There are tons of studios people have not even heard of and are double or triple the size of GameFreak. And their release schedule is absolutely crazy. I do think TPC needs to slow down with the release demands, but at the same time with the games selling as much as they do it's hard to change. They need to start failing to do so, but I don't see it happening. Also, at least in my opinion, their last two games (Arceus and S/V) were really good aside from a little bit of missing polish, and better than Palworld.

What I find hilarious about Palworld is that it's more unfinished and unpolished than any Pokemon has ever been, yet somehow it receives praise by the same people that complain that GameFreak is not giving enough time for their games in the oven. Which is absolutely true for their last couple releases, don't get me wrong, but it's just very ironic. Anyway, I don't think Palworld will be anything more than a flash in the pan kind of thing for a few weeks until the internet mob hops onto the next thing, but it's nice to see what is basically an indie game selling almost 10 million copies in a week. Goes to show you how much power influencers have these days.

I own these games already but I will buy them again and play them again, this time on TV. Really looking forward to it.

@Lizuka The second Investigations game is the worst game in the series in my opinion, at least with the fan translation, I'm not sure if Capcom's would change my mind. Still enjoyable though, just not as good. There is no bad Ace Attorney game.

Re: Best Ace Attorney Games Of All Time

@BenAV Not really, it should be at the bottom of the list. Still great of course, there is no bad Ace Attorney game. It's a real shame we never got an official translation though, the fan translation is not amazing, unfortunately, the writing is way off compared to Capcom's. Still incredibly grateful for it, of course.

Re: Best Zelda Games Of All Time

I will never understand why people prefer Spirit Tracks to Phantom Hourglass. I mean, sure, having Link on a train as a conductor is funny, but being literally on rails on the overworld is not fun, the most tedious navigation in any Zelda game ever. Just novelty. Not that I hate either of them, I think they are solid.

Anyway, Hyrule Warriors does not belong on this list, it should be on Warriors/Musou lists, not on Zelda games lists.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is A "Wonderful" Place To Work If You're A Genius, According To Former Employee

Switch_Pro

There's a reason why Nintendo makes banger after banger while other companies struggle to make a good game even with 10 times the budget. It really isn't the place for you if you want to work a simple and stress free 9-5 job. I am the last person to be on the side of a corporation, but you simply CANNOT get the results Nintendo gets without a fully invested team that is willing to make sacrifices for the end product.

Re: Unity Apologies For Its 'Runtime Fee' Policy, Promises To Make 'Changes'

@Tyranexx I have been using Unity myself for quite some time (not professionally, thankfully) and at least the last few years they have definitely been lacking focus. It feels they were trying to do too much at the same time instead of focusing on their strengths. They tried to do the whole HDRP thing to attract AAA developers but that didn't go anywhere. On the other hand, URP was a brilliant idea, which doubles down on what makes Unity good, but features were dripping in so slowly that while trying to make a game for it I had to wait for years just go get something as basic as decal support. So yeah, basically they have been all over the place for a while now, which is why I wasn't surprised that they decided to do something egregious, but I was surprised a little bit by the level of audacity of it.

Re: Unity Apologies For Its 'Runtime Fee' Policy, Promises To Make 'Changes'

@Tyranexx They would never get away with it, because this is not a video game but a product used by companies. Gaming companies not only are ... serious business to begin with, but they also have some of the best lawyers around. Nintendo has used Unity for several titles, we all know how lethal their legal team is, nuff said... Unity either did not think this through at all, or it's a deliberate move to trigger a buyout, if we want to get conspiratorial.

Re: Unity To Charge Developers A Fee Each Time A Game Is Installed Next Year

Switch_Pro

@TaraBates I was specifically talking about AAA in the first place so I have absolutely no idea why you are preaching to the choir about indie devs. My original comment was "nobody in the AAA industry takes Unity seriously". I didn't mention indie devs anywhere ... Of course they are negatively affected, they are using Unity, helmed by one of the worst CEOs of the gaming industry the last two decades, with a proven track record of failure to comprehend gaming. Hardly a surprise. And Unity has been a joke for quite a while, instead of doubling down on what makes it good they kept chasing the AAA market without understanding what the AAA market wants.

Re: Feature: Meet The 'Arzette' Dev Salvaging The Zelda CD-i Games' "Genuine Potential"

Switch_Pro

@Andy_Witmyer I did not undermine my argument at all, I just completely disagree with your point about everything having potential. It's a completely unrealistic viewpoint in my book. Say, if you start making a game right now with no knowledge at all, and you have to publish whatever you managed to put together in a month, what potential could that possibly have? Sure, maybe you can use the knowledge you got from it in the future to make something that actually does have potential, but baby's first game inherently would be a disaster if we were to judge it on its own. Same principle applies for the CDi games. They completely lacked the principles and understand of what even makes a good game, and the technical expertise, tools and environment to create one, so it could never be anything great.

Re: Unity To Charge Developers A Fee Each Time A Game Is Installed Next Year

Switch_Pro

@EllaTheQueen6 I think a lot of people are missing the fact that you need to be making over $200K per year revenue from your game AND surpass 200K installs (with the free Unity version) for this to even apply at all. If you make an indie game by yourself, you won't be earning that much from it and Unity won't take any cut. Don't get me wrong, it's still a terrible model, but if you wanna learn to make games it's still probably the best place to start.

Re: Unity To Charge Developers A Fee Each Time A Game Is Installed Next Year

Switch_Pro

@TaraBates There are pretty much no AAA games made in Unity. Fire Emblem Engage and Genshin Impact are not AAA by any definition of the term.

And yes, this does suck for people using Unity in a professional capacity. But everyone in the industry knows that Unity has been running their business into the ground for a while now, this is not a surprise.
