@Wexter I don't really play mods that much nowadays. I have modded games in the past, mainly Bethesda stuff. Anyway, I have nothing against mods, but the thing is, Nintendo do, because they feel it's misrepresenting their content, and at the end of the day, it's their right to protect their IP in any way they see fit. I think anybody modding Nintendo content and DISTRIBUTING IT is asking for trouble. I mean, why would you risk it and then complain when Nintendo lawyer ninjas finally catch up? It's just crazy.
@UltimateOtaku91 Possibly automatically claimed or based on reports, if it's normal gameplay then the creator can request the takedown to be removed and they will win the case.
When will people learn their lesson and stop modifying Nintendo games? Probably never. And modifying would be one thing, they also go a step further and monetize it as YouTube content.
@Dr_Lugae I am in complete agreement. I mean, just the amazing work gone into the audio and visual department is top drawer and worthy of praise. Giving it a 5 or 6 out of 10 means it's awful and the only good thing about it is the technical department. Anyway, although I don't really agree that we should judge content based on sales, this is one such case where the critics are simply dishonest and very sad that Nintendolife is also on the Disney shill critic bandwagon instead of voicing their opinion without fear. Surely we could at least have had a couple different opinions, it can't be that everyone at Nintendolife finds it to be that bad. It's a fansite dammit, not New York Times.
@gonzilla If they had hardware on par with PS5, they would have to stretch their budget even further to compete with the top games on those platforms, so the game would take even longer to be created. It's possible we wouldn't even get BotW because they would consider it too risky for the 100+ million budget it would require with high end graphics. It is a curse too, not only a blessing. There's a reason why the majority of AAA games are safe and pedestrian.
@Toads-Friend It was a tonedeaf review especially coming from a fan site. I could see someone that doesn't care at all about Mario giving it a 6 because it's enjoyable but maybe nothing too special if you are not a fan, but this is absolutely an outlier when it comes to fan opinion.
@koffing Of course you don't know, you are not an expert in commercial law in USA and you also don't know what specifically is on the contract between Gamestop and Nintendo.
Tears of the Kingdom is my favourite depiction so far strictly visually speaking, absolutely love how he looks. Ocarina of Time is probably the most intimidating one, it's also the context of it though and that you see him through the eyes of a child through the window, etc. Also really like his Wind Waker version, very different to all the others but awesome design.
Well deserved, it's the perfect love letter to Mario and Nintendo fans. Mario is the face of the industry, and deserved a good film representation to finally bury the 1993 film for good. Sure, it might not break new ground as a movie, other than looking and sounding incredible, but it had all the necessary ingredients for a faithful depiction of Mario on the big screen and a great starting point for the next films. I would argue it's the most faithful movie adaptation of any game I've ever seen, even if this doesn't win it any movie industry awards.
@koffing I agree with all those points to an extent. The thing is, I am not Nintendo's legal department, so I couldn't tell you the legal implications of letting things like this pass. For one, they would be setting precedent where they don't take action against leaks. My problem with your previous post was that you were painting them as the villain. As a business, it is necessary to protect their interests.
Compare this to literally any AAA game trailer, and you will understand why game developers look up to Zelda so much. The variety of gameplay content is just INTENSE. Other games just showcase the story and technical aspect, gameplay being usually standard fare.
I like it but it isn't my favourite, they showed some much better tunes today in the trailer, which made me very happy. Music is extremely important for Zelda.
@Vexx234 It's the best game of all time for me. I think they didn't set out to set the world on fire with it, but the fact that they could reuse assets meant quick iteration and lower risk investment, which allowed them to create something truly unique and special. I always had a suspicion that Tears of the Kingdom will blow Breath of the Wild out of the water for the same reason, but only a month left to find out.
@koffing And I'm tired of people supporting the little guy just because he is the little guy even though he clearly made his own bed. If I leak my company's classified information I deserve to be fired and so does he. Time to sleep on it.
@Zequio Ocarina of Time is "the same engine" as Mario 64 with added features. Your point? This is standard game development stuff. The main difference compared to the past is that this Zelda has the same art style and is open world. People were complaining about Majora's Mask back in the day too for the same reasons and it's the best Zelda to date in my opinion.
@koffing Right, because the employees are not trained and informed that they should not be sharing information on social media (/s). The only reason why "Mike" posted this, is because he thought Nintendo wouldn't backtrace him from his Reddit profile. Would he post this on Twitter under his real name? Of course not. He absolutely knew he was in the wrong from the get go, he just thought he would get away with it. Personal accountability is a thing and should always be a thing. He done goofed, and GameStop should have terminated him regardless of Nintendo's intervention, if they are a serious business at all. You're just making excuses, and I don't understand why. What's your agenda exactly? Nintendo being in the wrong in other cases doesn't correlate.
If Nintendo is his favourite company, maybe he shouldn't be leaking classified information. I'd hate to see what he would do to his most hated company. I have absolutely no sympathy for people who break NDA to seek "le epic upboats!" on Reddit, and neither should you.
One of the best trailers ever made in my opinion. Of course, it helps that the game has so many different mechanics and different types of content, I was like "wtf is going on" every 2 seconds.
@I-Like-Soup Relative to Disney, not in the slightest. Just ruining Star Wars might be enough for me to hate Disney for eternity, let alone all the other missteps they've had.
I fully support this subpoena. Should be a good lesson and serve as an example for idiots who leak classified information for a moment in the internet spotlight.
@Krysus Nonsense, sorry. Even if it was true, game development for AAA games already takes ages, if they squeezed every last bit of performance out of every platform, the development would take a decade, which wouldn't be remotely viable.
@IceClimbersMain Because the Wii version has absolutely nothing to do with the modern one? Not that the Switch can't run that with significant work, but just saying.
@FredsBodyDouble I thought his writing was solid but yeah the voice just didn't work great, he sounded too young. That said, it wasn't so bad as to take me out of the film, but easily the weakest link in the chain.
Broodals being a dishonourable mention makes me want to hit the dislike button... If there was one. Not that they are iconic or anything, but they were not particularly annoying either. Looking at the other options, their design stands out as some of the better ones tbh.
@I-Like-Soup Not really, as far as I'm concerned I cannot support Disney unless they completely change their tune and their leadership is changed. They represent everything I dislike about modern Hollywood.
@soupwoman Again, I feel you are worrying on behalf of people that don't exist. People that would want to watch this movie in the first place are either Mario fans or families/kids. The movie serves the exact demographic it was made for perfectly. I doubt it wouldn't be fun for others, too, it just wouldn't be as meaningful.
The moment I saw this in the movie, I thought "this was probably Jack Black's idea". I am familiar with his older material such as Tenacious D and it just sounded very similar. Then, the credits roll and he's credited for the song. I bet you as much as you want that he pitched this himself. Everyone laughed so much at the theatre. Jack Black's performance in general was phenomenal.
Universal absolutely pummeling Disney right now. Puss in Boots was phenomenal and now Mario will already be one of the highest grossing animated movies of all time in a week, and has a chance to be at the very top if it continues to do well.
Anyway, as a fan the important thing is that this pretty much guarantees a sequel. And I think we won't even have to wait too long for it, lots of the groundwork has already been done for the first film, the pipeline is ready to go. Very exciting times for Nintendo and Mario fans.
@soupwoman Who doesn't know Mario though? Are we talking about mythological beings that don't exist? Sure, I could see 50+ year olds that didn't grow up with Mario at all. Kids would have absolutely no problem enjoying this movie even if they don't know Mario. I saw a few people on YouTube that are older and don't really know much about Mario who quite enjoyed it too.
The entire movie was filled with moments that a Nintendo fan ought to appreciate a lot. I really enjoyed the first half hour of the movie where we got to see Mario doing some plumbing work, saw his family and all the Easter eggs in Brooklyn. Even if the entire movie was that, I would love it. I also liked that they gave Peach a little bit of backstory, how they incorporated platforming elements, the Rainbow Road shortcut... Hard pressed to find stuff I didn't like to be honest.
@soupwoman I completely disagree about the references. It had lots of Easter eggs and cameos, yes, but none of them played a major role in the movie, unlike in Ready Player One for example where references were basically all it had going for it. Realistically speaking, could you make a Mario movie, celebrating 40+ years of history without having cameos? I think they handled it perfectly, the way it was done was entirely non intrusive to the adventure. It was mainly stuff on the background. However, if you didn't enjoy it, well, too bad I guess, I hope you like the next one.

Re: Nintendo Hacker Gary Bowser Has Been Released From Prison
Prison sentence doesn't make sense for people that don't do violent crimes anyway, financial repercussions are more than enough.
Re: Nintendo Wins Court Dispute Against Pirated Game Hosting Site
@Wheatly If they didn't know there's a massive market for legacy content, they wouldn't charge monthly for it.
Re: Poll: Breath Of The Wild Vs. Tears Of The Kingdom - Which Final Zelda Trailer Was Better?
Seems like I agree with the majority here. As much as I loved Breath of the Wild's trailer, Tears of the Kingdom's shows a lot more going on.
Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Franchise Should Illumination Tackle Next?
I'd like to see an animated Zelda, I wouldn't feel comfortable with live action. Animal Crossing, Star Fox, DK, Yoshi or Kirby would be safe bets.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 15th)
Playing Wario Land 3 on GBC. A fantastic game, still holds up really well. I much prefer it to 4 personally. Might be the best one in the series.
Re: Talking Point: Should Link Have Voice Acting In The Next Zelda Game?
I would prefer if he remains silent. This is a game all about player expression, it just wouldn't fit.
