Re: Nintendo Download: 7th July (North America)

Holy smokes, Baseball Simulator 1.000! One of the very few NES games that my dad, no joke, would play for HOURS on end! To this day, I've never been sure why he was so fond of that particular game when so many more realistic games were available at the time, but it's one of those quirky childhood memories that I can't help but wonder if I romanticized merely because it was my father playing video games, or if he really was just that enamored with it. This one may just be worth a download, if not just for the sheer nostalgia of it.

Re: Review: Mini-Games Madness Volume: #1 - Hello World! (Wii U eShop)

"Woah woah woah, stop the clock!"

Yes, stop it, turn it back, and have the developer put a little more time and effort into this! Having watched a gameplay video, it seems that this was a good working prototype for something game-esque, but I don't think folks should be expected to shell out money for this. This is a demo at best.

Re: Save Data Hackers Top Competition Leaderboards in Pokémon Shuffle

Add me to the folks who hope that whoever can do something about it, will. Or maybe one among their ranks stands up and goes, "but guys...we can put the Charizardite and Mega Speedup in ourselves. Why do we need to ruin the online competitions when we can just let the scrubs squabble over their petty competitions?" ...y'know, or something similar to that. Anything to get them to leave the scoreboards alone.

Re: Video: Charles Martinet Talks Super Mario Maker And Answers Your Questions

SurferClock

What an awesome interview! As with a couple of other folks, my question was answered even before the selected questions for Charles, and it was fun watching the two of you interact and spend a few brief moments building and playing Mario Maker levels. I love the potential that Mario Maker represents, and I can't wait to eventually get my hands on both a Wii U and the game.

Re: Video: This News Anchor Sure Is Excited About Super Mario Maker

I think I would be just as giddy if I were in his spot, between actually getting to speak with one of Nintendo's representatives, talking about the Gaming Lounge, watching one of my co-workers play the most -awwwkward- round of SMM ever, and knowing I was anywhere -near- Charles Martinet. It's nice to see genuine excitement with this kind of reporting. Heck, we just had a recent announcement for Nintendo coming to Universal, and it seemed like it got lost amidst the bevvy of other announcements because the reporters didn't have something tangible to make of it.

Re: First Impressions: The Addictive Futility of the New StreetPass Games

SurferClock

I'm really enjoying the additional StreetPass Mii Plaza additions! After playing the heck out of the initial first wave of DLC plaza games, I've fully finished 3 out of the 4 games (Mii Force is giving me a LOT of trouble as far as its achievements), so two new games were quite welcome.

Ultimate Angler is a really nice game, very pleasant and relaxing outside of the occasional excitement of hauling a nice big catch in. The color-coding of the bait is a nice touch, being able to combine it to rank up your catches is awesome, and I can see myself actually going back and trying to get the best possible catches. It took all the best elements of the two more relaxing games from the first pack and combined them.

Battleground Z is also quite nice, though I can't tell if I like it more than Ultimate Angler just yet. My first HUGE plus with this game is that I am the hero, and if my Mii Fighter being used 90% of the time in Smash is any indication, then that should show how much I enjoy and am connected to my Mii character. The hobby-based weapons bring a nice element of surprise, and the invincibility where you battering-ram the zombies reminds me of the original Super Mario Bros. Starman, a delightful touch. The story's okay so far, and I like the pacing of the game, to where I can look forward to StreetPassing folks again to advance the story.

The VIP Lounge, don't know much about it yet but it seems nice, and the StreetPass Birthdays, I'm looking forward to eventually finding someone with my same birthday mostly!

Overall, the new stuff is most definitely worth it.

Re: Review: Pokémon Shuffle (3DS eShop)

SurferClock

This game is undeniably fun, wonderfully spaced out for maximum enjoyment, and it feels like all you really have to do is persist and strategize. Conquering tough levels feels triumphant when you've not had to spend any coins, set up your perfect team, finding those unexpected chains of combos (managed a 49 combo to end a stage, the Tetris Attack geek in me got so giddy at all that perfect placement!) ...it's sad that very few other franchises will be able to capture this sort of mood for their F2P games.

Re: Weirdness: Club Nintendo Members Attempt to Sell Flipnote Studio 3D Codes on eBay

SurferClock

@SEMevs You have to go on the Hatena website at http://en.flipnote.hatena.com/ first, log in with your information, and it actually gives you the proper username (jumbly assortment of letters and numbers) and password (no more than 6 characters) that you put into Flipnote Studio 3D, which allows you to log in on your 3DS and retrieve your notes from the Hatena site.

On topic, there's rather little to say, other than "haha, that's funny that someone is trying to do that."

Re: Pokémon Shuffle is a Match-Three Game With Slightly Worrying Micro-Transactions

SurferClock

I feel like Battle Trozei / Link Battle should have had the features touted in this game...I'm not talking about the micro-transactions, but the ability to actually -level- the Pokemon you have! Stuck on the 9th section of the game currently, so here's hoping I may actually be able to finish before Shuffle comes out. I'm actually sort of (cautiously) optimistic for this and would like to see how this all pans out. No matter what you feel about it, it's not like Nintendo is -forcing- you to pay for these micro-transactions. Your patience and skill can be rewarded!

Re: The Writer Who Penned Chronicle Also Wrote A Super Mario World Screenplay, And It Sucks

SurferClock

I tried pairing characters with the voices and...just...no. It doesn't work. This makes the Ninja Turtles adaptation look good. Who writes a 400-page script with intent on TRYING to do something with it? Sheesh.

EDIT: After reading his thing at the very beginning of this manifesto, I can definitely see why he might've put this out there, but this could very well have remained hidden for all time and been to his great benefit. He knows it's fan-fiction cheese as its absolute worst...so I suppose it's forgivable. If you ever want to see what the Michael Bay version of Super Mario World might be like, though, read as much of this as you can before, invariably, you'll start skimming because this is ridiculous.
