The buzz around Super Smash Bros. remains strong, with the last week being relatively dramatic for the upcoming Wii U and 3DS blockbusters.
Masahiro Sakurai contributed to the commotion with his Director's Room Miiverse community posts, particularly with a new character reveal — which verified a recent leak. Last week's drama also included amiibo figure details, a free soundtrack offer and news of a double 3DS bundle on the way to Europe.
Lots to enjoy, then, with the screens below also showing plenty of interesting details from the games themselves — click on the date heading to visit the posts in question and give them a Yeah.

In Classic mode, you can choose your next challenge on the route map. Looks like Master Hand is waiting at the end, but perhaps something might change if you raise the intensity…?!

Being able to cheer someone on is what really makes spectating matches fun. This time, 1st and 2nd place will get prizes in four-player matches, and spectators can bet the gold they win on Bonus Chances.

29th August — Shulk Reveal
Shulk's sword, the Monado, slashes enemies with a beam when activated, so it can strike from long range. What really makes this weapon unique is that when the Monado Arts are activated, it can change Shulk's features and abilities! Emerge victorious in battle by changing your abilities strategically!!
[List of Monado Arts]
翔 (Jump): higher jumps, lower defense.
疾 (Speed): faster movement, weaker attacks.
盾(Shield): higher defense, slower movement.
斬(Buster): stronger attacks, weaker launch ability.
撃(Smash): Stronger launch ability, weaker attacks, lower defense against launching.

Definitely the Shulk pic, seeing him in this makes me want to try out xenoblade chronicles.
Last week was the most excited I've been for a character reveal since Mega Man was shown. Shulk looks great!
Wow, they packed a lot of stuff into the 3DS version. Looks like you could play solo for a really long time if you wanted to between Smash Run and the challenges.
Cant wait until after the 3DS version releases so we can see what else they have in store for the Wii U version. Im still waiting for a level editor.
Didnt vote today, but combined the 3DS version beats the Wii U version. I can actually imainge using spectator mode w/ my kids. Gold is good.
I hope there are a ton of challenges, as in Uprising.
Shulk doesn't do anything at all for me honestly. My vote goes to the first Spectator Mode picture, just because it shows Yoshi as having the highest winning probability! And that's how it should be of course~ (Also I enjoyed Spectator Mode in Brawl as well, so I'm glad to see it back.)
So much stuff.
I'm choosing the mii and their grins. Outta be glorious.
The one with the achievement screen. That looks almost exactly like the achievement screen from Kirby Air Ride!
Shulk. He looks awesome.
I see a lot of inspiration/ideas from Kid Icarus. I like the 3DS version already
With a new character reveal you can't expect the rest to win. Hope we get another as we are only 9 POTD left until the jp 3DS release the next day. Obviously the full roster would eventually be put up and it turns out the leak is true
picks Spectator Mode just because of the money lol :3
Now I want to replay xenoblade. Oh no, there goes another year of my life.
@erv is it really that long of a game?
Of course I voted for a new character.
@Porky oh yeah it is big. Not just in size, but also in customizable gameplay depth. The moment you think the story could end, is the moment it triples in size. Twice.
Lovely game, and artistically very, very strong.
Finally! I'm so happy to see Shulk made it, and even happier to hear various people wanting to try the game now. Not gonna lie guys, I might have bought the game a year and a half ago, but even back then I was really pushed by the chance of seeing his protagonist in Smash
@WaLzgi Yeah Uprising is a fantastic game to take inspiration from!
I don't care for Shulk but I am very excited for Xenoblade Chronicles X.
I voted for the Mii Squad.
@BigH88 sulk looks a lot better that in xenoblade chronicles, not that he looks bad, seeing him very detailed is awesome and so is playing xenoblade, took me awhile to find a copy for under $60 in 2013 ($55 is what i paid, disc is in excellent condition, case is grungy and a bit dirty but in good condition otherwise, cover art is in good condition). i cant wait for these upcoming wii u games.
Not sure why anyone would choose a non-shulk picture. I mean I don't know him either but he looks cool and has a nice fighting concept!
I chose the pic of Lucina dodging his attack cause.that's more exciting then him just standing around.
This reminds me that I need to get back to Xenoblade. Playing that and trolling people as Shulk in Smash Bros. is one awesome way to enjoy the season of fall.
Hmmm.. nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, SHULK....
Can't decide which one to pick
I've never played Xenoblade Chronicles but I voted for Shulk. I voted for the last picture because it's cool that you can change his stats when battling. Yould could do this in previous generations of SSB but now with forms being different characters you cannot. Even when you changed form you only had 2-3 sets of stats (pre-transformation and transformation as well as pokemon trainer) but with Shulk you have 5 sets of stats. Could be very useful in battle depending on how long it takes to change arts.
I found my new punching bag! Get over here Shulk! Stop sulking!
Shulk, best reveal since Megaman!
I'll admit, I screamed a bit when I went on the site to be greeted by Shulk. He's my favorite Nintendo character, and I'm glad to see him in the game!
53 weeks of Smash Bros news, reveals and screen shots. As much as I love the franchise surely this much hype is going to mean there's so surprises left. I get that this is probably one of the games to save the Wii U but... even I'm loosing interest in this game. Got the 3DS on preorder... but might give the Wii U version a miss. I'll be fed up with SSB by Xmas.
this was a bad week for Smash IMO
Multi-Man Smash using the Miis on my system! So many garbage StreetPass tags from big names like "asjsfhss;j001" from Anguilla, so of course I wanna beat them up! Yah! Take that! That's for not giving me any puzzle pieces! Take that!
Here's to a year of Smash Bros updates...
Shulk is awesome!
Shulk's cool, but spectator mode took the prize for me, dang, just so much content.
Mario, & the gold. Shulk doesn't interest me.
@TeeJay I'm indifferent on Shulk except for his uniqueness. I never cared for Xenoblade though
@Yorumi @erv Thanks to your guy's input, I purchased the game today. I am excited to play!
