The positive response to Super Mario Maker is impossible to have missed, and unsurprisingly Nintendo has been pushing it more than most of its titles. What is a bit of a surprise however is that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS will be receiving a stage themed after this excellent piece of software.
The reveal trailer below states that the level design will change every time you play it, but it's not entirely obvious whether these layouts are randomly generated or simply selected at random from a list of pre-designed structures.
Interestingly the stage also contains an element that its source material is sadly lacking, and that's sloped platforms. Whether or not this is Nintendo's subtle way of telling us that slopes are coming or not is anyone's guess, but we'll continue to remain hopeful.
It makes perfect sense for Nintendo to capitalise on the success of such a well-received title, particularly one that fits so easily into the gameplay of the series. The stage will become available on 30th September in the West but no price for any North American or European regions has been announced yet. Do you feel like picking this intriguing new stage design up at the end of the month? As always drop us a line in the comments section below.

Sweet more stages =)
Yeah, slopes is the big thing that's missing from Super Mario Maker.
This looks exciting, maybe I'll get this stage for both versions, I prefer Smash Bros games that support Gamecube-controller.
Woahh...
If only the in-game stage buider was this good.
I CAN'T HYPE THIS CONTAIN I'M GONNA SPLODE
£2.29 for one version, £3.19 for both.
There has to be more. A character or Mii Fighter Costumes. My bro and I are psyched to play this! We've been having a total blast with Mario Maker, and I've been getting some online fame for my Charizard level. Screw Splatoon. This is the best game in the Wii U's 2015 lineup, HANDS DOWN.
$2.49 for one version, $3.49 for both.
@WaddleDeeWeegee ... "Screw Splatoon"? Whoa there, mate. Let's not get all crazy.
@Morpheel So true. It feels like such a big downgrade from the variety that Brawl allowed for. It frustrates me to no end how difficult it is to precisely draw platforms within the allotted space, only to find out it the stage you envisioned isn't allowed or is really boring to play. The great variety of Brawl's stage-building toolset allowed for a ton of different stage ideas that were really fun to play (falling platform stage, anyone?). This stage, like Super Mario Maker itself, really seems to embody serious fun and creativity. Hopefully, both Smash and SMM will benefit from this new stage.
Nothing wrong with more stages.
@WaddleDeeWeegee Smash Bros came out 2014.
I hope it's free.
"It makes perfect sense for Nintendo not to capitalise on the success of such a well-received title" I don't think that the word 'not' was supposed to be in that sentence, haha.
I don't own Mario Maker myself, but you can bet that I'm going to get this stage. It's unique!
"It makes perfect sense for Nintendo not to capitalise on the success of such a well-received title".......errrrrrr typo!?!
Otherwise whooo for smash bros and Mario maker fans alike. Doesn't include me though unfortunately =(
Why does it make "perfect sense for Nintendo not to capitalise on the success of such a well-received title"?
That sentence is also missing a period at its end.
Oooh man a mario maker stage?
Looks really good and Original
€2.49 though? I thought DLC stages were like €1.99 why the raise?
Could there be a possibility for a Splatoon stage??
Oh man, I'm hyped
@Dutch_Cheesecake Maybe because its the first new stage that there releasing by itself so its more?
@Dutch_Cheesecake All of the DLC stages so far have been from past games except for Suzaku.
This is a wholly original stage with many different versions.
@Gauchorino @Tsurii The stage builder in Smash U is a huge step up from Brawl's. Only problem is that there's not enough elements (ice blocks, falling platforms, ladders, etc.) Other than that, it's way better. Brawl's was too clunky and limited.
I love the fact that there's more DLC - and I might get it eventually so long as there's a sale. If they chucked all the Smash DLC into a bundle for about £10 I think I'd bite, but considering the price it's selling for that might never happen.
Plus, I've got to send my New 3DS in to be repaired so I can wait...
I wonder if they'll ever release a version with all DLC on the cart? ...
@ULTRA-64 lol, that typo bugged me too. And did you not enjoy Smash or MM?
I know this isn't Mario Maker related or Nintendo related, but Kingdom Hearts 2.8 announced for PS4 with Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Hd, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 as a prologue to Kingdom Hearts 3 o.o.
It is called Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
I have to say I am excited as a Kingdom Hearts fan and Zelda fan ^w^.
As for a Mario Maker stage in Smash, nice .
@Kimite I really wish they'd quit stalling and just focus on Kingdom Hearts 3 already. We get it - they want to capitalize on your success of the series. But can't they do that after the big game everyone wants is released?
Something like the "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prolgue" or whatever is only really going to be a big deal to someone who missed out on playing all those other game packed into it. Actual Kingdom Hearts fans haven't played anything new from the series since... Uh, DDD... Geez...
Also, epic stage. I really hope it's design is randomized because that's plain awesome. I'd pick that up in no time. Yay Smash!
Awesome, it looks very fun, and I'll be getting it. They should have added checkpoints in the video to further tease Super mario Maker owners.
@Kimite @Rhydas I think those games are fine existing because it means KH fans don't need a 3DS to play the whole series. I don't like it when games in a franchise have complete exclusivity outside of its original console family.
Anyway it's nice to see the return of Smash DLC and I'm choosing not to buy anything on the eshop until then because I expect this to be part of a £30+ DLC pack.
And on another note, it's almost time for the poll to be calculated!
Looks pretty fun and the randomisation element will keep it from getting boring, I'll definitely be buying it on release.
@Rhydas @Grumblevolcano
Well as a Kingdom Hearts fan myself I am complaining really and I have played every Kingdom Hearts games that has come outside of Japan .
I am excited for new content and new lore ^^.
Either way we know Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming nicely along anyway, so I don't think we need to complain that much really :+).
@Tsurii Oh, I misread
I'm getting it. It's probably going to be the most valuable stage in the game lol!
@SanderEvers It's a promotional tie-in stage. No reason it couldn't be free!
And other Nintendo games regularly get free updates, or at least fairly priced DLC. Smash Bros is the only one with overpriced add ons.
Aw, a SMM stage but no Splatoon stage? Weak.
@SanderEvers
people work for free, it's called charity/community service.
hoping it's for free isn't bad at all, nothing wrong with hoping to get something for nothing...
DEMANDING that something be for free is another story though...
Looks fun! I am definitely getting it. The randomness will keep it fresh.
I can't wait to get this! I actually had an idea for a Super Mario Maker stage over the weekend. Coincidence?...Most likely.
It seems wrong that it is coming to the 3ds since they made a huge fuss about stages on the 3ds are only based on games from Handhelds and stages on the Wii U would be based on games from the home consoles... Unless they plan on bringing Mario maker to the 3ds.... Or they are breaking their own rules again.
Cool level idea.
Question - at the 16 second mark this level is under "Extra". My son, who purchased the Ryu character and stage says there is no tab for extra. We also have the Miiverse stage so I do think we are up to date on all the updates.
@rjejr I have all the DLC stages and they are under "Extra," including the ones you mention.
@rjejr - Did you unlock all the stages in the game itself? If you haven't unlocked all the stages yet, then it's possible that your Suzaku and Miiverse stage are sitting on the front page in place of the locked ones. Then once you unlock them, it will push the DLC stages into the second page.
I was kinda hoping it'd be free but it's a cool stage nonetheless. I'll have to check it out, if I even have any money on the eShop.
@rjejr Extra tab appears when you have all disc stages unlocked, have the latest system update (so Miiverse is automatically present) and buy at least 1 DLC stage. You're probably missing one of the crazy stages like Pac-Land or Flat Zone X.
If it was free I would download it. Splatoon gets free DLC doesn't it? Why not Smash? Oh well....
It looks like a lot of fun to play, but I doubt I'll download it. I haven't been playing Smash as much anymore. I picked up Ryu and his level but haven't played it much since.....that was back in June! There's just too much awesome gaming and not enough time.
Looks like a great stage! Other than slopes I also noticed it had those bridge blocks from SMW that mario maker doesn't have.
I do have to wonder if they snuck these in as hints.
It's too bad nothing else Mario Maker related will make it onto the 3DS...maybe at some point we'll get a Mario Maker Player on 3DS to allow folks to try out levels from the Wii U.
Definitely buyin'
@bezerker99 Splatoon got free DLC because the game wasn't totally finished (or at least it didn't look like it was). Give it a bit and you'll probably see priced DLC show up for it.
Why can't this be free if there's Mario Maker save data on your Wii U?
Sweet.
W00T! getting this on my Wiiu copy! I've found I prefer everything on the wiiu (costumes, stages, fighters) but will always do custom fighters on 3ds and wiiu.
@Grumblevolcano @DoomTurtle @ikki5
Thanks everyone. After receiving your replies I went and checked the game, assuming my 10 year old was wrong, he's 10, it happens, but he was right, we do NOT have that "Extras" tab. We do have the 1 paid DLC level Sazuka Castle from Street Fighter 2, and we do have the Miiverse level, and we do have Pac-Land. All totaled there are 46 levels. Don't know why Nintendo would make a game fill in levels w/ "Extra" levels rather than just always putting them on the "Extras" tab, but I'll give my kid credit, we watched hat video one time on normal speed and the first thing he said to me was "We don't have that "Extras" tab." Now that's a damn sharp eye. Guess he'll need to unlock some more levels.Probably just google it.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Can't seem to PM on NL but I need to know where avatar originates from please
@Mr_Rawky *FLAME SHIELD*Well, I don't hate Splatoon. It just didn't appeal to me as well as others. DONT GET ME WRONG. It was good. But sometimes it felt unfinished. You could argue that they said they would keep making DLC for the game. But this is stuff we should have been able to excess from Day 1. From my personal bias, I'm bummed that you can't use a microphone (I'd like to say most of is are.) The amiibo support was just STUPID, as I should just be able to get the outfits. And where is my Samus outfit? And GOD THE FANBASE. I'm happy to see those dedicated fans, but the fans that are TOO dedicated. With their fanart and their squid waifus. I'm glad to see people grab this game. Its cute and a great change for shooters. Heck, my sister and I haven't bonded from a video game since New Super Mario Bros. Wii. But this game just doesn't appeal to this Nintendo Fanboy. I am waiting those who FORBID opinions.
@whodatninja And Super Mario Maker is my favorite game in the Wii U's 2015 Lineup. What did I do wrong?
@rjejr for the longest time I though i had all the levels unlocked, then i did some challenge hunting and did a challenge and boom, stage unlocked and had all unlocked. ha ha, so make sure you do some of the challenges
That is pretty cool!
Why can't the DLC for this game ever be cheap? I mean, $20 for 4 fighters? 3 of them aren't even new! The hell?
@ikki5 Thanks, I'll let the boys know. Last I checked they were only about 1/3 of the way done w/ challenges.
Awesome news!
@gcunit Are you asking where I got it from or who is in the gif? LOL
I'll just answer both. My Avatar is Perfume, a Electro J-Pop group and my favorite musical group. I got the avatar from perfume city which is a fansite for them.
@Ryu_Niiyama Thanks - Perfume is now officially my favourite J-Pop group too
Happiness. Simply, happiness
yea... I'm picking that up
I'll buy pretty much any Smash DLC day-one. A roommate and I have been putting in an average of 40 hours per month lately, so I've gotten way more than my money's worth on this game.
Looks absolutely awesome, and £3 for the stage on both consoles is a pretty good deal. I'm probably going to save my cash, considering there will probably be a big bundle for £30 containing all the Smash DLC.
@SurferClock I'm with you; SMM on 3DS would be a dream come true.
Hopefully, it will arrive on the next generation portable.
Hopefully its free!
As for the slopes: Maybe they are coming via a update. I think Nintendo still could add many things via updates, but maybe they let us pay for it (hopefully not).
I wonder if the stage can be based on creations made by players sometimes?
Should be the Master Hand.
@Franklin Dang. Missed opportunity!
This came outta nowhere. For some reason, I'm not very interested. I suppose I'm more satisfied with the Mushroom Kingdom U stage. Nevertheless, knowing me, I'll probably pick it up anyway.
Really cool idea for a stage! I like how the hand will fix any broken blocks.
@rjejr
Looks like this guy should wear an S on his chest. Whaddayu think
image upload no compression
@SanderEvers
But they do occasionally offer free content... which is charitable.
Every Smash has to have a retro Mushroom Kingdom stage. And Mushroom Kingdom U just simply didn't fit the bill.
@JaxonH That reminds me, I need to either change my Mii's hair color to gray or start using Grecian Formula. It may be an old wives tale, but kids do literally suck the life out of you. On the bright side, lot of 50 year old men would kill for my head of hair. Some 30 year old men too. Though it's not quite that long now, just cut it for a wedding last Sunday.
@SanderEvers
Quoting JonTron: "Here's a list of things that aren't free: FOOD!".
Amazingly this is the first time SMB3 has featured in a stage throughout the Smash Bros. series.
