We're finally getting to the stage that, beyond the inevitable 'rare' figures, amiibo toys are readily available in various stores. They may not often be the figures that die-hard collectors want the most, but there's decent stock of standard characters to catch the eyes of shoppers.
Nintendo seems ready to continue its marketing push for the toys too, with Nintendo of America releasing a new TV commercial dedicated to the figures. Its focus is on how amiibo are used across a whole range of games, which seems like a smart message to differentiate the toys from its rivals in stores. This particular commercial also mentions amiibo support for Yoshi's Woolly World - we've known the game will support amiibo since E3 2014, but its inclusion here gives us renewed hope that the game's not too far away.
Check the new commercial out below and let us know what you think.

Surely by the end of the Direct we will have an official release date for Yoshi? I will be in disbelief but probably not surprised if we don't though!
Yesterday I went to a local store and saw a bigger amiibo variety than usual, except for the rare ones. Hope they talk new amiibo today.
@OorWullie lol, surely, has to be.... right?!
Plot twist: Yoshi's Wooly World will be available for download after the broadcast today.
Stores have been pushing toys to life sales for Easrer, Skylanders has Easter themed ones for the second year, so now isa good time. Amiibo make good easter badket stuffers, and kosher for Psssover too!
Yoshi date is a given tonight, probably within thr first 5 minutes. And there are 2 Yoshi amiibo to choose from, though I think they're treated the same in game.
And Yoshis WW had bern rumoured end of June in s couole spots, I'll stick w/ that and Splatoon end of May, Mario Maker August I guess.
@MJKOP I am half expecting a 'Coming This Summer' or if they're feeling generous 'Coming This June' haha
Watched the vid, they should have included Hyrule Warriors, the spinner is the 2nd best weapon in the game, after Epona, and it's not just a typical kids game.
Oh, and the lack of the portal for the old 3DS doesn't bode well for that being in the ND tonight, sorry @sinalefa
And Yoshi's Wooly World really should have been out in time for Easter. The game is full of colorful eggs, how much more Easter can you get?
@rjejr
Lack of portal? You should be saying "3DS Portal release date announced today!"
Anyway, another chance for them to show new amiibo and plug the New 3DS. I would be happy with confirmation that wave 4 of Smash hits on April 24th, as in Europe.
Great ad, just be nice to actual find some.
yeah it would be nice if I could find the amiibo I want...cough MP10 Peach, Meta knight, Dedede cough
@sinalefa - I'm beginning to think that portal is never happening. Somebody should have 3D printed one by now. An NFC sensor chip and an IR port, easy enough. Having the software tricked into reading it would be the hard part. I wonder if it has to be done game by game to read the portal or if the OS reads the external NFC as if it's internal and relays the message into the game?
Good luck w/ wave 4 tonight. Jax says he has every amiibo. Insane.
@OorWullie 'Coming this summer' So you mean the beginning of October, like Smash 3DS...XD
@Takerkaneanite6
Or years later like Flipnote 3D.
I really hope they show off the NFC portal, as I received a new original-model 3DS for Christmas this year, which I assume will last me roughly 3 years as my original one did.
So Yoshi's going to be the next game out of the gate? Since it showed Yoshi over Splatoon I'm gonna guess a late April release date, Although if that is the case, it's unfortunate that they haven't done any promotion for it.
@rjejr @JaxonH is my amiibro and my competition (Haha) So far I've been lucky enough to collect them all as well!
Hopefully we'll have some information on NA's Wave 4. Right now I have my order split between Amazon UK and Amazon Jr (with much thanks to JAX directing me to tenso)
@Sir_JBizzle
Why haven't you joined our LINE chat for amiibo alerts yet? I started an instant alert LINE chat through the LINE app (available on iOS/Android) and so far everyone in the group has secured pre orders for all amiibo. Gold Mario, we knew 10 minutes before NowInStock sent alerts. Majoras Mask new3DS, restocks of Little Mac, Cap Falcon, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer... You name it.
Here's a link to the thread I started. Check page 1, the first post, for details if you want to join.

@Sir_JBizzle - OK, so your both nuts I'm waiting for a New 2DS and Nintendo branded external HDD tonight. Or maybe not.
Short and sweet.
@JaxonH I honestly didn't know that existed. Probably because I rarely peruse the forums. Which I should probably do more of, apparently! Lol. I've set up LINE account and already posted my credentials! Thanks, man.
On the Gold Mario: strange enough, he was extremely easy to find in my parts, as he was at the first Walmart I visited around 10am they had about 10-12 of them. It was by far my easiest rare get. My act of kindness for that day was buying the cashier one for her son, because they wouldn't allow employees to purchase (at least on the clock from what I understood).
@rjejr Oh I'll definitely shell out money for a Nintendo branded hdd.
Nice commercial, actually. Best quick summary of Amiibo yet from Nintendo. It hit all the checkboxes quickly and actually looks exciting. I like how it even subtly features them as sort of a toy first and foremost.
@Sir_JBizzle - "buying the cashier one for her son"
I was going to make some comment about the cashiers appearance but Katesmum is in my head so I'll be good.
@Hy8ogen - I thought the US could get 1 w/ some type of cover accessory since we didn't get the small new 3DS. And PS4 gets so many covers but I know Wii U won't, so a matching HDD to sit on top kind of makes sense.
And lets face it, 32GB ain't cutting it.
@rjejr I got the 8GB one....so yeah. Thankfully I have a unused external HDD laying around so I just hooked it onto my Wii U.
I'm very surprised that Mega Man is still available for a fair price. Just seemed like he'd be as popular, if not more so, than Little Mac or Marth. I'm not so foolish as to let myself wait for that; I've already bought him.
