Nintendo confirmed a September release for Mario Maker back in its April Direct, and now an over-eager Best Buy community manager appears to have outed the release date for Canada. It seems pretty legitimate, falling on a Friday and within that anticipated month - the date given is 11th September.
This potential reveal - and we think it's wise to not regard it as 100% confirmation - came in a broader announcement that Best Buy customers in Canada can get a Nintendo seven button set with a pre-order for Mario Maker and another game from the range announced at E3, with full details coming on 17th June.
You must pre-order Mario Maker for Wii U plus 1 other game from the select list. Once you add both games to your cart, you will need to add the button set SKU. The price will be discounted automatically once all items have been added. The button set will ship with Mario Maker on September 11, 2015.
This also matches up with the 30th Anniversary celebration for Super Mario Bros., which was released in North America on 13th September 1985; that date falls on a Sunday this year, so 11th September is the closest viable Friday release.
Are you excited about Mario Maker's arrival this September?
With thanks to Zach for the heads up.

Yeah, Super Mario Bros. was released September 13th 1985, so I figured Mario Maker would release on the second week of September, though I thought they would release it on a Sunday, since the Friday is 9/11.
Hopefully Devil's Third is released earlier than the 28th August date for other regions then, don't want Mario to again ruin Nintendo's relationship with third parties!
There was a south African retailer (the same one that leaked the splatoon amiibo) that listed it for the 25th, though the 11th would make more sense, the 13th would be the best but it's a sunday so i see why they wouldn't release that day
I say November or December, since its Nintendo's big holiday title.
I did not find any thing wrong about the idea of having Mario Maker released on the eleventh of September and wished some folks would not associate that date with a series of tragedies commonly known by a certain variation of that date or any other variation of it (it should be treated like any other date).
Wish it was sooner but I guess it makes sense...
30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros on 9/11? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQoRXhS7vlU
@Jason723 That, or Canada has been proven for the true perpetrators of 9/11...
I agree it's time to move on from blacklisting that date. Human history is full of tragedies- Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima/Nagasaki, London Bombings, D-Day, etc etc The list can go on forever. I don't think there's a date on the calendar that is free of some sort of tragic event at some point in time.
Not to say we shouldn't remember 9/11, but I do think it's appropriate for a game to release on that day.
@Henmii even though its likely September, Mario Maker is still there Holiday Title, Plus I am sure Star Fox will be in the Holiday release position.
@Fazzie_Bear
Nonono 9/11 was set up by a chain of liquor stores:

It seems like it would be better to release on Sunday, if only to avoid releasing on 9/11. The idea of releasing Mario Maker in America on one of the most infamous days in recent American history (or history at all, really) seems disrespectful.
@JaxonH
The difference is that 9/11 is still pretty recent, and the war it started isn't really over. Also, more people died in 9/11 than in any other attack on American soil. I think it's still too early to relegate 9/11 to the history books.
Fun fact: I was born on September 13th. Also, I need this game in my life.
I wished it was a Summer release... :c
Oh well, more time to throw in even more features.
Very excited for mario maker, can't wait for September.
I would consider it disrespectful to release a war or crime game like CoD or GTA on the 11th, but Mario has nothing to do with any of that, and life needs to go on.
Not sure how I feel about it personally, but the fact that it even has to be discussed would be enough for me to err on the side of caution and pick a different date. The Nintendo World Store is about 3 miles from ground zero, its an odd place to have any type of joyous celebration that day. I'm sure the rest of the country and the world is over it, but you still know when its 9/11 in NY. I wouldnt be surprised if it launches that date and the store doesn't do snything event wise until Sunday.
@JaxonH I agree. There was a silly uporoar over the new Ninja Turtles being released in Australia on Sept 11 last year. It can be a solemn public holiday like Good Friday, but it doesn't mean everybody should have to put their life on hold for 24 hours.
@MadAdam81 It wasn't just because it was releasing on September 11th, it the fact that the poster showed an exploding building and the 9/11 date. If the poster didn't have an exploding building with the 9/11 date, or if the poster did have it, but was on a different date it would be okay. But it's the fact that they were both together.
@GuyWithTheGames Maybe it's releasing on the 25th in Europe/South Africa, and the 11th in the US.
I was in New York that day ,to see Michael Jackson perform at MSG would you believe, not something anyone will 'get over' really, but I don't think there's a need to avoid releasing on that particular date. Although as @rjejr said, just the fact that it's even come up ,it's still extremely sensitive
@Jason723 source? I don't even think NoA has a date for that...
Every generation have it's RPG maker type game. I own an official copy of the SNES Rpgmaker with some FLASHED games that still work.
Back to figuring out life I go
Every single day of the year is an anniversary of something horrible that happened somewhere in the world.
I hope there's Amiibo support!
@MJKOP - ",to see Michael Jackson perform at MSG"
I don't recall ever hearing about an MJ concert, so I'm assuming it was that night and canceled? I worked around 50th and 3rd Ave, across from the "lipstick" building, but I took off that day to go to a funeral so I only saw it from a distance driving by from the funeral home to the graveyard while only 1 of the 2 towers was still standing. My dad was driving, I was in the back seat, my mom was kind of in shock in the passenger seat. My wife was still working in midtown, waiting for her to get home wasn't fun. My sister was in California, she was due to fly back home soon after, I think that freaked my mom out the most. Her best friends brother was lost in the tower.
Yeah, it was 14 years ago, but people in the city still remember. Though it is just 1 city, if the Nintendo World Store was in LA instead of NY I might not have even brought it up.
@rjejr he played the Monday night before it happened, and the Friday before that, it was his 30th Anniversary celebrations, of his solo career. I was at both shows, all the way from Northern Ireland to see Michael. He did a signing at a record store just a few weeks later, gave the city a boost, and organised a benefit concert.
@tysonfury
"Every single day of the year is an anniversary of something horrible that happened somewhere in the world."
I liked your point; this is one reason why the eleventh of September should not be a solemn date just because of a series of tragedies that could have happened on any other date (they were also not the only tragedies to have ever occurred on the eleventh of September).
@MJKOP - Ah, MJ-KOP, got it now. And now that you mention it I do think I recall the benefit concert, I never followed him as a fan, just a cultural icon.
Keeping fingers crossed for a 3DS version/connection/add-on...c'mooon, E3!
@rjejr man was my hero, I love him. 10 years ago today, 13th June, he was cleared of all charges after that sham trial that ultimately killed him, in my honest opinion. Just 4years later he was gone.
Doe s it really matter what the release date is in September? The answer.... no. Hope their is a special 30th anniversary edition with some cool collectives.
This is Canada. The tragedy happened in The United States.
Sounds fair, I'll be ready for some Mario but then! And to the ppl and their 9/11 thing, it's 14 years later, can't we just leave it in the past and be glad we're celebrating 30 years of super mario bros I agree with everyone else on this, heck even horrible things in history happened on Christmas, no day would be safe!
@MarkyVigoroth it happened in the US yes, but it happened in a building full of people from all over the world. I suggest ppl just move on, tragedy happens every day in this world
