@rvcolem1 I was going to say 'there's a name I haven't heard in a while' then I remembered that screaming statue that cried blood and I think that may be why I forgot about it. Trauma amnesia
I played it on PC and love it. It’s the perfect example of a well-made AA game: it knows its audience, plays well, isn’t bloated, is fun, and has just the right amount of acceptable jank that doesn’t ruin the experience. It’s the best Star Trek game I’ve played, so I may double dip on this one when it goes on sale
My guess is that the remake/remaster was going well, but something came up and they had to delay it but everything else (the video, the art project, etc.) was already locked into the corporate calendar so they had no choice but to release what they had.
Might be a hot take, but Rayman was never really a "AAA" franchise. "AAA" gets thrown around so much it's lost its meaning, and these days carries with it a lot of baggage (live service, loot boxes, season pass, etc.). Rayman was always top-tier "AA"--and it's been great, especially with Origins and Legends. It doesn't need to be "AAA", it just needs to be FUN.
My daughter was born when the Switch came out, and I sold a lot of my stuff to get one. She's and her brother have both grown up with the Switch as their main gaming console, just like how I grew up with the NES and SNES. I remember firing up BOTW for a few minutes between baby duties; having my kids play Mario 64 decades after I played it; playing Stikbold on the plane with my wife; lots of Mario Party, and even more Mario Kart 8. I think the Switch may be the last game console for me; there's just such a huge catalogue of great games that I have yet to go through and the indie scene is great. Maybe one day I'll cave and get a Switch 2, but it just won't be the same as my OG Switch.
I bought my Switch shortly after my daughter was born. She's 7, her brother is 5, and the Switch has been a family mainstay for years now. Being able to pick up and play for 5-10 minutes at a time between tasks has made it one of the best (and most-played) consoles in my life. I'm glad I had this little thing with me to share memories with my family.
I like that the Switch has a variety of Mario Party games now. Super Mario Party was the shot in the arm to revive the series, Superstars was a loving callback to the best of the original games, and Jamboree combined the best aspects of both for a real banger.
I actually wondered if they were re-using Mario lines cause I thought he sounded spot-on. His Luigi is also really good, but I really think he nailed it with Wario and Waluigi. Charles had big shoes to fill, but Kevin is getting comfortable in them just fine.
I almost picked N64, but the biggest drawback is there is not title sticker on the top of the cartridge. If you stack them, you have to sift through them to find the one you want. The SNES has the title on the top, so it's perfectly reasonable to stack them and easily find the title you want.
Bowser Jr., just so Bowser can have more character depth and show us more of a reason why he's always going after Princess Peach--he's just a single dad who wants someone to help him raise his son.
Also, more of the brothers working together. The first movie was kind of "The Super Mario Movie + Peach: The Great Luigi Rescue"
Not everything needs to be AAA. The original Crazy Taxi is a good example of that. It was a mid-budget arcade game that was fun. I think that's more important than however many A's a company puts in front of their games.
I played it with my kids last night when I downloaded it and it let me play a little early. They loved it and I really enjoyed the feeling of, well, "wonder" and the tiny details and character expressions.
The Switch as a brand is still going strong, and Nintendo loves its brands. "Game Boy", "DS" and "Wii" continued as brands even after their initial console, so I suspect they'll continue the Switch brand in some form or another (maybe it'll be called "Switch Up" or something). As such, I think it'll still keep backwards compatibility.
Man I'm so glad they were able to get the rights to those games. Especially Rampage edition, where Dr Grant jumps on a Gallimimus, shouts "Yee haw!" and fires a rocket launcher at a helicopter.
See, everyone talks about this amazing when moment you go into Mexico and the music kicks in, but when I played I got ambushed by a cougar and killed so when my checkpoint reloaded I just sitting on my horse in the middle of the road and that was it.
Nintendo didn't delay Tears of the Kingdom for another year so it would coincide with a Switch 2 release, which tells me they probably have another 3D Mario in the works for launch.
It most likely would be an open world, since the Bowser's Fury add-on for 3D World seemed like a testing ground for a future open world Mario game.
Good to hear there was no bad blood between the devs and Sega. It sounds like it was a mutual decision to split and go a different direction. While a hand-drawn 2D Sonic game sounds amazing, I'm looking forward to see how Superstars pans out.
Say what you want about Illumination's writing, they are very good at expressive animation, character design, set design and lighting.
Exhibit A: The El Macho flashback: https://youtu.be/PDvCrL_HQpk?t=81
I was hoping the Genesis "Rampage Edition" game would be included. Nothing beats Dr. Grant jumping on a gallimimus, shouting "Yee haw" and blasting a helicopter with a rocket launcher.
My excitement has definitely tempered, but as long as it's not overly intrusive I think I'll still pick it up just for the gameplay. If it's just cosmetic stuff then whatever.
Really hoping we get Koopa Cape and Toad's Factory.
If the datamine is to be believed (and it's been pretty spot on so far) we wont' get any more DS courses, so Airship Fortress is out. Sad face.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about it being a lifestyle thing. I too have a couple young-uns and so I can't do the huge sprawling open world games anymore. But there's always time for a quick round of Mario Kart.
I welcome the change. It really feels like Mario Kart 8 has gotten a second wind with the Booster Course, and it's nice to see Nintendo is also updating the core game as well.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Team Open To More DLC: "Tell Us What You Want"
The ultimate crossover is if they could get Mario, but since that doesn't seem likely, at least do Crash Bandicoot. Or YTP Robotnik.
Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Receives A Small Update (Version 1.4.1)
It boots up really fast on Switch 2 but more than anything it reminded me how much I'd love a sequel.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th August (North America)
Woah hey, Star Trek Resurgence just dropped on Switch? I got it on PC but I think I'm gonna double dip for that one. Great classic Trek adventure.

Re: Mario Kart World: Course List - Every Confirmed Track
Guess now we know why Airship Fortress and Wario's Shipyard didn't make it into the booster course pass. Here's holding out for Toad's Factory!

As long as "resurrecting old franchises" doesn't include shoehorning live-service features, I'm ok.
Re: Talking Point: Where Should 'Luigi's Mansion 4' Take Place?
An amusement park would be fun and right up with the family-friendly-spooks vibe that the series is going for.

I think that reveal trailer was the shot in the arm Nintendo needed at the time. I'm so glad they didn't go with the 12-minute FAQ version.

Legit excited about Solar Jetman. I played that one with my Dad when I was a kid and it was really tough.
Re: Sonic Movies To Be 'Avengers-Level' Events, Says Franchise Producer
