Re: Celeste Devs Making "Something Small But Cool" For 6th Anniversary

Still on the fence on this one. I know for a fact I will dig the gameplay mechanics, I'm just not sure about everything else. The whole "mental health" angle seems a little, I don't know... pandering? Can't quite put my finger on it. It seems to have earned all of its accolades, though.

Now if it was about Metal Health--of the axe-grinding, pile-driving variety--I'd be all 'bout 'bout it!

I'm stoked on all of this, but the 2D ones look like a Flash browser game from 20 years ago. They didn't go far enough backward!

Pixels lovingly crafted into animated sprites and backgrounds demonstrate a lot more soul and skill than running a series of sketches through a scanner. Unless you go full Cuphead it just looks cheap.

My only concern with a new Crazy Taxi would be the soundtrack. Not a whole lot of 'popular' rock music has come out since 1999 that isn't hot garbage. If they keep it pre-2000, it has a chance.

The gameplay for all of these will still be awesome, even if they bork the audiovisual aesthetic.

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Switch Games Of The Year 2023

SpeedRunRocks

Just finished Xenoblade 3: Future Connected last night.

Xenoblade X back in 2015 was my first foray into the JRPG realm, followed by 2, 1, then finally 3, with a tangent into Xenogears at some point in between.

Over 1000 hours of gameplay later, I gotta say.... What a ride!! Favorite game series for sure.

When people ask what my favorite anime is, since I know next to FA about the genre, the Xeno series tends to be my answer. I'll take it over 1000 hours of One Piece any day of the week!

This morning I hit up the Wayback Machine and dug up the old Iwata Asks interview for XCX, now I want to start that one over again.

The Skells in that game we're extremely badass and in hindsight I had no idea what I was doing during my first playthrough when it came to combat.

Just conquered this one. It nails the PC Engine CD vibe pretty well!

It keeps a score and rank for every level, but it doesn't combine them all after the game is beaten.

It's not really that difficult, the jump kick and the portal weapon are your best friends. I'm honestly having more trouble with Panzer Paladin than I had with this.

It would be rad as hell if they ported this to PCE CD or maybe the Sega CD / Saturn. I don't think they would have to change much.

Re: Anniversary: Zelda II And Castlevania II Both Turn 35 This Month

Best Zelda 2 memory: growing up watching my oldest brother play through most of it with Def Leppard High N Dry and Ozzy No More Tears playing on repeat. I also watched my neighbor's dad actually beat the dang thing.

My personal best for Zelda 2 on original hardware, no Game Genie, is just over 3 hours.

Never had Castlevania 2 growing up, but a more recent memory involves having the band Night Demon crash at our place. We partied all night until it was just the singer Jarvis and myself still awake.

It was right after the NES Mini came out, and Castlevania 2 was the title he chose to play. It was pretty damn rad.

Check out Night Demon, they rule!

There's another one on Switch that hasn't been mentioned. It's Demon's Tilt!! The sort-of spiritual successor to Alien Crush and Devil's Crush. Great stuff.

Also, special mention goes out to a title that will likely never be re-released in any form. I'm talkin about Crue Ball for the Genesis! Published by pre-Madden Electronic Arts.

It doesn't play the best, but it came with this badass Motley Crue sticker, sooo.... worth it!
