Two Switch games we find ourselves regularly returning to here on Nintendo Life are this week teaming up.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will play host to the undisputed crossover king, Tetris 99. After hosting its own series of events for games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Splatoon 2, the popular battle royale game will finally get its own special event in the latest Smash Bros. title.
It's not just any old thing, either. This one comes with five – yes, five – brand new spirits from Tetris 99. The event starts later this week on 25th October and will run for a total of five days.
If you would rather play Tetris 99 instead of Smash, this Friday the online puzzle game is hosting a spooky Luigi's Mansion 3 Maximus Cup event, where you can unlock an exclusive theme if you score 100 points.
Will you be booting up Smash Bros. Ultimate to unlock these spirits? Tell us below.

Wait, the individual blocks are spirits? Ok...
HAHAHA. Ok wow. Remember guys blocks have feelings, too <3
So...Galeem killed Tetris?
I'll happily play the Tetris 99 event for a new theme. I got second place a couple times just the other day. But I haven't touched Smash in a while. Just not a fun game to play by alone or even online. Fun to play at parties though.
Well, this is a welcome surprise.
@Elvie Galeem's multiversal omnicide spared no one and nothing.
I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS THIS MORNING.
Tetris block would have made the ultimate™ out of left field retro character.
Smashboy is finally in Smash
Okay, this is stupidly cool. Digging it.
Do you need the Online subscription for this SSB event? Because mine expired...
I wonder if they'll have the made up names that were on Jeopardy recently
@rushiosan Yes.
Now THIS Spirit event, I'm excited for!
That is kind of cool.
@rushiosan For Smash, this is mainly a Spirit board event, not a tourney. For anyone who is confused, Tetris 99 is having a tourney, Smash has a Spirit board event. It would say [Tourney] if it's a specific tourney; or [Event] meaning it's a Spirit board event that's not required for Nintendo Switch Online.
@ALinkttPresent Are you sure? I’m referring to the Spirit Board event in SSB, not tourneys neither the event in Tetris (which obviously needs Online to get in).
@KingBowser Thank you!
Talk about some "Blocked" content.
This could only lead to one thing...

Five spirits, but there are seven Tetris pieces. I guess J & L, and S & Z will be combined.
@Heavyarms55
Agree to disagree I love to play it online or allone
@Northwind Those Smash events are literally minutes of work. I love them but they're never time consuming.
Do the unique spirits from previous events ever cycle around again? I was obsessed with getting every spirit when it came out but now I've missed a handful.
A Tetris stage in Smash would be neat.
Every time a new spirit event is announced I fear they're exclusive to the event, but news never address the matter.
@BigBluePanda A Tetris stage would be cool. Maybe the screen would be constantly scrolling upwards and players would have to navigate the falling blocks as well as fighting.
Maybe now that Smash will give them names, it will finally squash those stupid fake photoshopped manual ones that people keep spreading.

Aww sonuva--
@Northwind
Yeah makes sense. I didn't think they could actually appear randomly, though. I gave up on trying to make them appear and just logged on for a couple of minutes every hour for however many hours I needed. Correct me if I'm wrong but they also appear more than once a day, right? Haven't missed a spirit yet despite all the things I have going on in life. Portable mode is my friend.
Tetris should join Smash Bros. not as a Fighter, but as a Stage.
Random blocks keep falling from the top, a simple AI stacks them, and you have to fight while avoiding getting crushed by the blocks.
Calling it now: Wii Fit Trainer is gonna be the long piece.
@Northwind Hope you managed to get them all in the end. Fortunately the game prioritises spirits you don't have in the spirit board so with a handful of logins I had the complete set.
