There's no stopping Hamster – with the talented developer this week releasing the Nintendo classic Golf on the Switch eShop.
This latest Arcade Archives release first arrived in 1984 and allows you to play across 18 holes, as you aim for the lowest score possible while factoring in the wind direction and speed. You can even take on a friend in the two-player mode. Here are some screens from the PR:
As usual, this one will set you back $7.99 / £6.29 and promises to faithfully reproduce the "atmosphere" at the time of the original release. As a bonus, players can also compete against high scores from all over the world.
Will you be adding this one to your Switch HOME Menu? Comment down below.

Wasn't a fan of this one. I didn't play another golf game until Ribbit King, I'd play THAT one again, though.
I think it is cool that the courses in Wii Sports golf are based on these courses.
I'll pass
On the Wii VC these Nes type things were a fiver.
I'd rather play games that are not prehistoric
but that's me.
My cut off is the 16 bit era.
The Arcade Golf arcade duology is a prequel to the Mario series.
Vs. Golf is about Papa Mario.
And Vs. Ladies Golf is about his Mamma Mia.
I'll get it! I loved this on the NES despite how basic it was. Lots of great memories with it.
@KitsuneNight Was it the arcade game? I don't think there are many more games to release from Nintendo's arcade lineup.
@NandN3ds
No it was the Nes game.
Thats why i said Nes type.
Hamster can't be stopped, can they?
@KitsuneNight
This was an arcade game, but it is an adaption of the NES game.
@nin10dobot Than try to get Bandai to re-release the game
@Toy_Link Beautiful
I loved this game growing up. Good times, especially the putting.
I've been over retro gaming since Nintendo's the switch came out. More recently, I've realized I don't want anything older than Game Cube. Mario 3D World port, where are you?
I might get this eventually. This was the era that I started gaming and I have a soft spot for these games.
I'd like to know what are the differences between this arcade release and the NES one. That's what I base my decision whether to buy Arcade Archives Nintendo games on.
By the way, there are some more waiting to be released: VS Balloon Fight and Wrecking Crew, although the latter disappeared from Wikipedia's article, despite having been announced long ago.
@Moroboshi876 Yeah, it is strange that VS Balloon Fight was announced a long time ago and hasn’t released yet.
Still, I am very happy we got the DK arcade games!
@Moroboshi876
I loved Wrecking Crew! I consider it the "forgotten" Mario/Luigi game because, well, it WAS.
@Woomy_NNYes
N64 for me.
Though I do have that sega megadrive collection.
One of sega's many many many many many many re re re re releases of that console's library.
Cube games would be quite amazing and very welcome .
But i'd be happy with n64 games too.
I’m tempted, but I could also just fire up the GALF (or GALF Nights, or GALF Seasons — the options!) mini games in Golf Story for a retro golf fix.
@nin10bot Well, it was announced for the Arcade Archives line. The arcade version, with differences. But just disappeared from the upcoming lists. That's not bad news necessarily, because it happened with Karate Champ too and it got released eventually.
@rdm22 Heh, exactly. I can't look at nes golf without thinking of galf now. I can't wait for the next thing from the golf story devs, one of the great, under appreciated indie gems of this generation.
Yeah literally no stopping releasing lacklustre games.
Buy it from the eShop and it will come “directly... to you” ♡
I really don't like these VS line Arcade Archives releases because, if memory serves me correctly, these are games that were released on NES first and ported to arcades and slightly modified for difficulty to suck up quarters.
I guess for the sake of historical preservation, they have some importance in being in digital form, but honestly, Nintendo should have made this game available on the NES App, instead.
@Flammy Agreed. That game was fantastic.
Gah, no more Vs. System stuff, Hamster.
Get back to the Irem licenses and drop In The Hunt on us, already.
@AllieKitsune Yeah I think I am over these 8-bit arcade releases for the most part, and Golf definitely isn't the game that will make me consider buying more. It's just a very archaic golf game and it hasn't exactly aged well, especially when we got similar retro golf games that are better from the Neo Geo collection.
@kayleedayo RIP Iwata
@kayleedayo @KingMike
Ah, y'all remember when they had that Switch OS easter egg to play this game?
Kinda sounds sacrilige to now charge $8 for it.
@Moroboshi876 The arcade version has a actual soundtrack, while the NES version doesn't have any music kinda seems like it wasn't finished in time, or didn't think a golf game needed music till the Vs/Arcade version came out there's a alt version where you play as a female golfer insted of Mario but I don't know if there going to include that in this release
@ClassSonicSatAm Thanks for the info. I didn't know about that alternative version, but all these Hamster releases are the arcade versions as they were as far as I know.
@ClassSonicSatAm Well, on the NES Iwata was probably only given like 16 KB to work with for the program code, and the typical 8KB graphics (like other first-gen NES games), whereas I imagine for the arcade they gave it a bigger memory budget.
