Super Mario Odyssey is a beautiful game. It was almost two years ago that Mario's latest 3D adventure found its way to our screens, bookending a year which started with the similarly wonderful Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and loading it up now after all this time never fails to surprise us. Each time we see it, we're blown away.
As it turns out, there's a way to make it look even better, and that way is to put it in the hands of a professional photographer. Dan Cordero says that he's spent six months with the game's Snapshot mode - a function which allows you to pause the game, move the camera around, add filters, and more before taking your perfect screenshot - and has shared the results online for all to see. We've included some of our favourites below, but you absolutely must go and check out the entire collection.
Not only does it show off Cordero's amazing skills, but it also shows a completely different way to have fun with Super Mario Odyssey. We've got to say, seeing all these images is making us want to go and revisit the game to search for amazing photo opportunities for ourselves. What serves as a platforming playground for some doubles up as a piece of pure art for others, and we think that's pretty neat.
What do you think? Feeling inspired to jump into the game and take your own photos? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Some of them are really good but overall they dont seem much better than a lot of the other snapshot pictures i have seen by people who have no photography background at all. I daresay the NL community could make just as good images.
I took a few good pictures of Mario hitting Jaxi with his hat. It's great. Some of my best photos I took in the game.
Some of my own ones.
It’s still sat on my shelf! My kids and wife have all finished it and I really want to play it but other games keep getting in the way. Maybe after I’ve finished Mana.
Amazing skills? 🤔
The subjects are framed well and the compositions of the shots are balanced, but other than that there really aren't enough things to distinguish what a pro photographer can do with Mario Odyssey's camera.
@spurryitboi same! I've been wanting to replay this masterpeice for a while now.
I have a hard time going to back to Odyssey because there are way too MANY moons... should have been curated better.
@OorWullie nice work!
love that first one
@holygeez03 If you work explore all nooks and crannies you can pretty much get most of them through the main campaign, then just revisit each level. You have to buy the final moons to make 999, but I think I had enough coins by thwn, especially if you play balloon mode. I didn't buy all costumes, though.
@Jayofmaya I realize that... but with so many moons around, it kills my motivation. I would much prefer to be tasked with collecting the really good moons... when the story is completely finished, then it would be fine to scatter all of the additional moons around (which I would probably never bother with).
300 moons should be plenty for the main campaign... then another few hundred once the game is "beaten".
I was doing that when playing the game, my sister and friends were teasing me since I was spending a good amount of time trying to take amazing pictures in the game.
@OorWullie wow. Those are some great pics. Love the first one
He has a good sense of composition, but there's really nothing extraordinary about these images. I take screenshots at least that good on a regular basis.
Ohh. That was just wonderful.
Reminds me... I did some neat in-game photos of the Final Splatfest I need to get around to editing.
Caught this on reddit, these images are nothing special which is kind of awkward given the emphasis on being a professional photographer.
All I see are typical screenshots.
One game I just couldn't get in to. I'd rather have had less moons dotted all over the place and more worlds like galaxy had.
@Kidfunkadelic83 The motion controls killed Galaxy for me. Would like a Switch remaster that removes the motion controls.
So far, Odyssey is a winner for me, in the 3d Mario platformer department.
These photos are good quality, thought went into them, obviously. Still, the camera controls, filters, and in-game content (for shooting) available have their limits.
I regret trading in my copy of Odyssey. I don't know what the hell I was thinking.
I have a huge collection of Odyssey screenshots subtitled "that's what she said".
For example, when you first capture the T-Rex and Cappy says "I can't hold on any longer! It's too big!"
@JayMac83 we've all been there man. Maybe not with Odyssey but with other games.
My playtime of Links awakening has already surpassed this game...maybe I should give it another go
it's not that hard to take a decent picture in Odyssey tbh. (not bragging, just saying that these aren't super noteworthy.)
