Nintendo has never done numerals on consoles, that's PlayStation brand identity right there.
I really like Super Nintendo Switch. But I also wanted the Wii U to be named the Super Wii back in the day. If only Nintendo listened to my sound advice, the Wii U could be saved...
Maybe they could do Roman numerals, or stylise it as "Nintendo Switch ][ " .
Konami these days is even worse than EA. At least Ea is putting their game on the Switch and it looks fairly decent. The best way to send a message to Konami is to buy FIFA Switch in droves.
I'm not old enough to have fond memories of Atari. Quite the opposite Atari is a synonym of mediocre in my mind. The brand is tarnished.
If they really want to compete on the current gen scene, I hope they have billions to spare, consoles are an expensive business nowadays. And don't call it the "Ataribox". They could build a decent gaming PC hardware, they could even put in a better chip from AMD than the one bottlenecking PS4/One right now and sell it at a profit for like $250. Still, they need to get the games on it. And market it cleverly.
@D1c3r0ll Exactly, if they truly feel there is more tales to be told on the Breath of the Wild world, I would be more than okay if they announced today they started working on a direct sequel coming in 18 months time. Splitting the story between DLCs, one dungeon at a time is just ripping us off.
I use the Wii U browser all the time, amongst other things to find help for some games I got stuck on and to check out Nintendolife. It's the best browser on any console I've tried.
There is only one word that springs to my mind: Moronic.
The big question is whether 3rd parties are happy with it. Because if they are, and they generally seem to be so far, I'm happy. I just want Switch to have the games.
Perhaps soft launch is not the appropriate word, but I don't want to discuss semantics. After more than a year starving Wii U of big titles, people expected Nintendo to be holding back a treasure trove of 1st party games for the Switch and go guns blazing since the first day. That's no what we saw in January, many crucial 1st party studios are MIA. What is exactly Retro Studios doing with their time and money? Fighting crime like Bruce Wayne at night, pretending to run a game company by day? I reckon going guns blazing in March would be an exercise in futility, It's the drought season anyway. But we should have more information about the holiday games. As it stands now, there are 3 games for day one: Zelda, Bomberman R and 1,2 Switch, none of these are compelling reasons to buy a console. Breath of the wild, may be a juggernaut, the greatest Nintendo game to date, but it's available on Wii U. I wouldn't ever play such a open world game that requires long play sessions out of my living room, so portability adds nothing for me. N64, some would like to point out, was launched with only 2 titles. But when those two are Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64, I don't think the situation is even comparable!
I'm thinking it might be a relative success, something in between the N64 33 million and the SNES 49 million units. Even with Pokémon, Smash Bros and the works, the 3DS failed to achieve that 100 million mark.
100 million is too far-fetched, in traditional Nintendo fashion of course. They believed in the same numbers for the Wii U. That's what happens when you live in a bubble with no idea of what the market is and what your competition is doing.
On the other hand, I think surpassing the Wii U's lifetime sales could be achieved within the first year easily.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Yeah, I was kind of hoping they at least supported Dolby or DTS standards this time, but alas it's the lesser used LPCM all over again.
Design-wise everything related to the Switch looks dapper. What I would love to see inside those boxes are little sheets of paper with codes to redeem MyNintendo coins for our physical games. MyNintendo needs to go physical.
I'm not too keen on relying too much on smartphone apps for integral parts of the console's features. Will said apps be available to Windows 10 Mobile? I though so as well. *adds Android phone to the list of overpriced Switch peripherals.
The price is too damn high and Europe is getting screwed over. Accessories seems to be overpriced too. Online is paid and I don't do that sort of thing. Internal storage is still the same 32 GB of Wii U. It was pitiful back then, I don't have a word to describe it now. I want to support you Nintendo but you always make it so damn hard.
@AlexSora89 I too wonder if Nintendo really believes VC games can act as system sellers. Earthbound /Mother 2 was promised to be released on the original Wii! Now we finally got Earthbound and Beginnings and presumably no Wii U was sold because of it.
Meanwhile, the Wii U GBA VC is already there put in place waiting for Mother 3, you know. Of course, if it ends up with an international release on Switch, some Nintendo representative will try to tell us it the Wii U was not powerful enough to run such a demanding game.
I think the Switch will do at least ok, but on a personal level, I'm not very keen on the whole concept. The Switch is gameplay-wise the most conventional hardware Nintendo will release since the GameCube. Maybe that's what the majority wants, but I dare say "meh". It's innovation lies solely on the hybrid factor. No innovations on controls ("gimmicks" if you like) but also not a powerhouse. It's boring if you ask me. I'm sad 2nd screen seems to be getting the boot. I can't help thinking of it as a very juiced up PS Vita and not something Nintendo-ey enough.
I'm not that tech savvy but reading this felt like Nintendo took the Nvidia Shield and made it less powerful. Hope I'm in the wrong, but it would be the kind of monumentally stupid thing Nintendo engineers use to do on occasion.
I think most people that downvoted the game, did so because they belong to the breed that feels entitled to free games on smartphones. A large portion of downloaders must have never spent a cent in a videogame in their lifetime. It's against that culture that Nintendo struggles.
I don't think any one seriously expected a hybrid device to outperform a home system like the PS4. I think most people were happy with the notion that the Switch will be in the same ballpark as the Xbox One and that's an optimistic outlook.
Yep, not going to wake up at 4 AM to watch it live. We'll just have to suck it up and watch whenever we wake up in the morning. I'll be a fun breakfast. Just chill, the Switch will not run away.
@Savino The Switch sucessor should be announced in 2021 and launched in 2022. 5 years is the standard cycle. Don't know why you're so worked up about that.
The Wii U Sonic discounts are utterly pathetic and I thought Nintendo Cyber deals were bad. It takes AGES to drop the prices on eShop even on questionable quality games like Sonic Boom.
@impurekind I would too, better the devil you know after all. I'm just pointing out that it is far from being the perfect solution. The Wii U release would be the first time we, PAL users, could play F-Zero X at full speed officially. It's very disapointing the way Nintendo messed this up.
I hope they patch it soon, I haven't played this in many years and was feeling nostalgic. If not, I still have the Wii plugged to a TV, with GCN controllers.
@Ralizah Chinatown Wars bombed also on the PSP. The reason it failed is a generational thing. It wasn't because it was on a Nintendo console. Most people that play GTA started with III or newer, they don't have an ounce of love for 2D topdown view games.
I liked the game because I started with GTA 2 but I'm getting old.
We are yet to see how the Nintendo fanbase would react to a fully 3D GTA game, sadly. And I'm not too confident that we'll see it on the Switch, either. Rockstar doesn't understand Nintendo.
I know the Switch is ARM and the PS4 and One are x86_64 and the memory consumption could vary drastically from architecture, but I hope at least for 6 GB of RAM, with a minimalistic and highly efficient OS.
@RainbowGazelle I like both games but Mario Kart 8 is just better. Better driving, better graphics, better online... Transformed was good to pass the time until MK8 came, though. SEGA should keep up the good work.
@Haiassai Investors will be negative towards anything Nintendo throws at them other than smartphone games. The sad truth about the stock market. It's the same with other companies. Nintendo will prove them wrong next year, as Switch will be a hit (I hope for theirs and our sake).
Everything has a touch screen nowadays, it's almost a given. In a tablet like form factor, people will assume that much and start tapping anyway. And from the company that made the DS? It would be unthinkable not to have it.
@RainbowGazelle This is not another 3D Land. Super Mario 3D World was well-worth the full price. Only an ignorant would assume what you did, without even playing the damn game.
People, play the games first before you smear them.
Yeah, it is one thing for Yves Guillemot to like the system on a personal level, other entirely different thing is the business decisions he has to make on his company behalf. They will probably support it wholeheartedly in the beginning like they did with Wii U, whether they stay in the long run will depend on its commercial success or lack of. In the end, It's really nothing personal, just business.

@UltimateOtaku91 That's bold of you to assume there will be a next-gen Xbox console.
