Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

Samurai_Goroh

Nintendo has never done numerals on consoles, that's PlayStation brand identity right there.

I really like Super Nintendo Switch. But I also wanted the Wii U to be named the Super Wii back in the day. If only Nintendo listened to my sound advice, the Wii U could be saved...

Maybe they could do Roman numerals, or stylise it as "Nintendo Switch ][ " .

Re: Random: Atari Is Working On Its First Home Console Since The Ill-Fated Jaguar

Samurai_Goroh

I'm not old enough to have fond memories of Atari. Quite the opposite Atari is a synonym of mediocre in my mind. The brand is tarnished.
If they really want to compete on the current gen scene, I hope they have billions to spare, consoles are an expensive business nowadays. And don't call it the "Ataribox". They could build a decent gaming PC hardware, they could even put in a better chip from AMD than the one bottlenecking PS4/One right now and sell it at a profit for like $250. Still, they need to get the games on it. And market it cleverly.

Re: Editorial: No, Nintendo Switch Isn't Having a 'Soft Launch', But The Perception is a Problem

Samurai_Goroh

Perhaps soft launch is not the appropriate word, but I don't want to discuss semantics. After more than a year starving Wii U of big titles, people expected Nintendo to be holding back a treasure trove of 1st party games for the Switch and go guns blazing since the first day.
That's no what we saw in January, many crucial 1st party studios are MIA. What is exactly Retro Studios doing with their time and money? Fighting crime like Bruce Wayne at night, pretending to run a game company by day?
I reckon going guns blazing in March would be an exercise in futility, It's the drought season anyway. But we should have more information about the holiday games.
As it stands now, there are 3 games for day one: Zelda, Bomberman R and 1,2 Switch, none of these are compelling reasons to buy a console. Breath of the wild, may be a juggernaut, the greatest Nintendo game to date, but it's available on Wii U. I wouldn't ever play such a open world game that requires long play sessions out of my living room, so portability adds nothing for me.
N64, some would like to point out, was launched with only 2 titles. But when those two are Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64, I don't think the situation is even comparable!

Re: Tatsumi Kimishima Expects Nintendo Switch To Sell "About As Well" As The Wii

Samurai_Goroh

I'm thinking it might be a relative success, something in between the N64 33 million and the SNES 49 million units. Even with Pokémon, Smash Bros and the works, the 3DS failed to achieve that 100 million mark.

100 million is too far-fetched, in traditional Nintendo fashion of course. They believed in the same numbers for the Wii U. That's what happens when you live in a bubble with no idea of what the market is and what your competition is doing.

On the other hand, I think surpassing the Wii U's lifetime sales could be achieved within the first year easily.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Samurai_Goroh

The price is too damn high and Europe is getting screwed over. Accessories seems to be overpriced too.
Online is paid and I don't do that sort of thing.
Internal storage is still the same 32 GB of Wii U. It was pitiful back then, I don't have a word to describe it now.
I want to support you Nintendo but you always make it so damn hard.

Re: Hopes for Mother 3 On Nintendo Switch Boosted by 1-UP Studio Facebook Post

Samurai_Goroh

@AlexSora89 I too wonder if Nintendo really believes VC games can act as system sellers. Earthbound /Mother 2 was promised to be released on the original Wii! Now we finally got Earthbound and Beginnings and presumably no Wii U was sold because of it.

Meanwhile, the Wii U GBA VC is already there put in place waiting for Mother 3, you know. Of course, if it ends up with an international release on Switch, some Nintendo representative will try to tell us it the Wii U was not powerful enough to run such a demanding game.

Re: Poll: Are You Optimistic for Nintendo's 2017?

Samurai_Goroh

I think the Switch will do at least ok, but on a personal level, I'm not very keen on the whole concept. The Switch is gameplay-wise the most conventional hardware Nintendo will release since the GameCube. Maybe that's what the majority wants, but I dare say "meh".
It's innovation lies solely on the hybrid factor. No innovations on controls ("gimmicks" if you like) but also not a powerhouse. It's boring if you ask me. I'm sad 2nd screen seems to be getting the boot.
I can't help thinking of it as a very juiced up PS Vita and not something Nintendo-ey enough.

Re: Review: F-Zero X (Wii U / N64)

Samurai_Goroh

@impurekind I would too, better the devil you know after all. I'm just pointing out that it is far from being the perfect solution.
The Wii U release would be the first time we, PAL users, could play F-Zero X at full speed officially. It's very disapointing the way Nintendo messed this up.

Re: Take-Two Interactive Reiterates Support of Nintendo Switch, But Won't Confirm Games Yet

Samurai_Goroh

@Ralizah Chinatown Wars bombed also on the PSP. The reason it failed is a generational thing. It wasn't because it was on a Nintendo console. Most people that play GTA started with III or newer, they don't have an ounce of love for 2D topdown view games.
I liked the game because I started with GTA 2 but I'm getting old.
We are yet to see how the Nintendo fanbase would react to a fully 3D GTA game, sadly. And I'm not too confident that we'll see it on the Switch, either. Rockstar doesn't understand Nintendo.

Re: Guillemot Praises NX Again as Ubisoft Shareholder Meeting Ends Without Vivendi Intervention

Samurai_Goroh

Yeah, it is one thing for Yves Guillemot to like the system on a personal level, other entirely different thing is the business decisions he has to make on his company behalf. They will probably support it wholeheartedly in the beginning like they did with Wii U, whether they stay in the long run will depend on its commercial success or lack of. In the end, It's really nothing personal, just business.
