Re: Review: Wii Sports Club (Wii U)

Samurai_Goroh

@rjejr They should at the very least have a warning in the front cover: "Wii Remote Plus required" like the N64 games that required the Expansion Pack did. It's not that explicit at all for the uninformed consumer, who might see the box art and think that at the very least his old (non-Plus) Wiimotes will work.

Re: Review: Wii Sports Club (Wii U)

Samurai_Goroh

The disc version should have been bundled with a Wii remote plus. I would buy it in a heartbeat if that were the case. And believe it or not there are many Wii U owners without a remote plus.

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th July (Europe)

Samurai_Goroh

Pokémon TCG alone makes this a stellar week for 3DS. I have the original cartridge and still play it on this day and age. It is super addicting, one of the best PKMN spin-offs ever. Everyone should buy it, so we just might get the Japan-only TCG 2 for VC at last.

Re: Satoru Iwata Reigns Supreme in Annual Shareholders Meeting

Samurai_Goroh

@baba_944 These kind of people only look for short term profits, if one day they ever took majority control of the company they would burn it to ground in a matter of months. They are the same that want Nintendo to make Android/iOS games. One thing I like about the Iwata administration, it that he listens more to his costumers than to the shareholders. With him, Nintendo is all about games. Want to maximize the profit, make the best game possible. Not many big businesses do that.

Re: E3 2014: Hands On With Nintendo's New Online Shooter IP, Splatoon

Samurai_Goroh

Like most, I am hoping for some local split-screen mode and Wii Remote + Nunchuck, Pro controller support. A single player campaign would be the icing on the cake but that I could do without. I get that this is a multiplayer focused game, but I don't want it to be online only.
It's funny because traditionally Nintendo skips the online modes in favour of local multiplayer, here they did the exact opposite and we're asking for local.

Re: Mario Kart Month: The Developers Who Tried To Beat Nintendo At Its Own Game

Samurai_Goroh

The problem with Transformed it's that it is filled with atrocious bugs. Yes, they had the right ideas, characters, good track design, drifting and flipping are neat, and it's very addictive to play, when things work.
When they do not, you get frame-rate drops, wonky physics when you go to a spot you're not supposed to and at least on Wii U complete console freezes. It could be the Mario Kart killer but it lacks polish. Unforgivable. Better luck next time (and I do hope we get a Transformed 2). Mario Kart 8 may not reinvent the franchise but it is a very polished piece of software that never disappoints.

Re: Feature: Memories of the Wii and DS Wi-Fi Connection Era

Samurai_Goroh

I didn't play that much online on Wii, to be honest. Brawl's matchmaking was awful. And the lag was always there. I got butchered every time in Dr.Mario & Germ Buster, shame on me. Mario Strikers Charged is probably my fondest memory of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. A new Strikers would be welcome on Wii U. The Nintendo Network is a huge leap forward for Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Is Shutting Down Its Taiwan Subsidiary

Samurai_Goroh

@Hy8ogen I don't think I have contradicted myself, no. The people of Taiwan do not wish to be ruled by Beijing, they want and so far have managed for decades to coexist peacefully and live in a democratic society, unlike China. You seem to adhere closely by the Beijing official position. I will not pursue this matter further, we're not here to discuss politics. But I'm just curious, what is your stance on Tibet by the way?

Re: Nintendo Is Shutting Down Its Taiwan Subsidiary

Samurai_Goroh

Taiwan is an independent country in my books. It is separate from China de facto, has it's own government, currency and president. But China will never recognise it as a de jure sovereign nation. Up to the 1970's, Taiwan even had a seat on the UN. Many countries keep close diplomatic ties with Taiwan but have to tread carefully not to upset China.
The name is not mentioned to stir political issues, it is mentioned because there are 23 million people living there that want nothing to do with Beijing.

Re: NPD Results Bring Solid 3DS Numbers as Wii U Struggles

Samurai_Goroh

I find it sad that people on a Nintendo website are so uninformed about the different models of Wii, of all people. GCN compatible Wii consoles were discontinued back in 2011 in favour of the "Family Edition" model. Both this second model and the Wii Mini cannot play GCN games nor use it's peripherals.
So, I think the chance of finding a brand new Wii compatible with CCN pretty thin at this point in 2014. Which brings us to the next point, those 28,000 people would be better served with an Wii U and Nintendo should convey that message more efficiently.

Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy

Samurai_Goroh

I think that if Nintendo included same-sex marriage in the game, it wouldn't be able to get an E/ 3+ rating. And I think that's the only reason they choose not to. They want their game to target the largest audience they can. And children are a very important audience for them.
Nintendo is just a company trying to make the best decision for it's business. In the 90's it meant blood and gore-free games on the SNES to keep it family-friendly. In 2014, it means not being thrown in the middle of a social and political debate it has nothing to do with.
I am not homophobic, by the way. But I am against gay marriage. And ironically, I live in a country where it is already legal for some years. But, also a country where I still can stand for my opinions.

Re: Dragon Quest X Reaches One Million Sales In Japan

Samurai_Goroh

1 million over two years and three platforms (Wii, Wii U and PC) doesn't sound too good. Granted, I have no idea how much Square can squeeze from the loyal one million customers on a monthly basis, but I think it's safe to say that by turning Dragon Quest into a paid MMO, they shot themselves in the foot. They could have so much more sales worldwide if they just followed the recipe laid out by DQ IX on the DS, how hard could that be? Shooting themselves is all Square has being doing of lately.

Re: Review: Quake II (Nintendo 64)

Samurai_Goroh

Quake III Arena is to this date my favourite first-person shooter. I played on the PC and on Dreamcast, and let's just say that I wasn't a fan of the DC controller for shooters, but the PC version was obviously ace. I never played the older games, but if it ever got a VC release (are we even getting N64 anytime soon?), I'd probably dip in.

Re: Electronic Arts CEO Discusses The Company's Plans For Virtual Reality At SXSW

Samurai_Goroh

After the failure of the Virtual Boy, I don't see Nintendo keen to explore this path. Some people don't even like to wear spectacles for 3D. For the majority of people, the idea of a VR headset is terribly unappealing, and well... certainly a lonely gaming experience. Add to that the prohibitive costs of the technology and I couldn't certainly see this straying farther from Nintendo's philosophy than it does.
With Virtual Boy, Nintendo was actually more interested in stereoscopic 3D than virtual reality. If the focus was VR, Virtual Boy would have much more games in 1st person other than Teleroboxer. VR was the hype du jour in the 1990's, but the technology was not really there to do it. With 3DS, they finally got the right technology to fulfil their vision. And without glasses!

Re: SNES Classic Super Mario Kart Is Racing To The Wii U Virtual Console This Month

Samurai_Goroh

@JaxonH I'm not hating on US gamers, mind you. All is cool, bro. I'm just saying, you people complain because of some limited editions you don't get, while we were deprived of masterpieces like Earthbound. Isn't that a little bit worse? Now, were being treated a little bit better by NoE, and that was overdue. NA hasn't been missing out on any games and that what matter's most. Even Xenoblade,The Last Story and Pandora's Tower were still released over there, you just had to wait a bit longer. Meanwhile, I never got ExciteBots on Wii, which is still fairly recent. It's not a matter of coveting my neighbours, it was a game announced for a global audience that I legitimately expected to see released in PAL regions.

Re: SNES Classic Super Mario Kart Is Racing To The Wii U Virtual Console This Month

Samurai_Goroh

@JaxonH Sonic Boom will also be released in Europe and Oceania, dude. When they talk about appealing to western audiences it's pretty much everyone in the world but Asia and Africa.
And as far as European gamers go, historically Europe was always getting the short end of the stick. We never got Super Mario RPG and Earthbound on SNES, we got the N64 on 1997, the GameCube on 2002, we played the slower-paced 50 Hz versions of everything on every console up to the Dreamcast... so maybe it's fate delivering overdue retribution?
