I'm not too knowledgeable about these kinds of games, but I'll take my chances, it looks rather nice. And I'm a patriot, that too. I shall call it "Demanda das Masmorras" henceforth.
"You can fully thank Nintendo. Without them there would have been no retail version and perhaps not even the new DLC."
Thank you NoE! Thank you, Mr. Shibata. But above all, thank you Shin'en for being the mightier of tech wizards on Nintendo hardware and making games with passion.
@SanderEvers I don't think you can take just one game, albeit a good one, and claim EA put more effort in supporting the system than Ubi did.
EA released three games for Wii U, two were botched from the start, one was good value for money. Ubisoft released more than 20 games, some were good, some were not, some were decent.
If you can put that much weight into one single game, then I can claim that Rayman Legends is the best 2D sidescroller I've played in years, beating Nintendo on its turf at its own game. Take that New SMB.
Ubi delayed games and ported them to other systems? Sure, but I don't recall a single game they announced for Wii U that they didn't eventually end releasing.
Now, EA, out of the top of my mind, I'm still waiting for that Battlefield they promised. You've seen it? EA was wrapped up with Nintendo in the first 6 months of the Wii U release. Ubi still released major titles up to Watch_Dogs in 2014.
@Ikramali No one is claiming that EA is responsible for the Wii U failure. Just that it is undeniable that they wanted that outcome and never even bothered trying.
Ubisoft did try, they released the games they had announced for it, and I give them credit for that.
@SanderEvers EA made an effort? You must be joking, EA release a grand total of three games on Wii U, FIFA 13 was a roster update, Mass Effect 3 released on Wii U for the same full price as the Mass Effect Collection (featuring all 3 games for 60 bucks/euros/whatever) on PS3 and 360). NFS: Most Wanted is supposed to be great, but I wouldn't know as EA made sure that game got a smaller print than the 500 € bill. Need I go on? EA intended the Wii U to flop from the start.
Ubisoft is one of the few 3rd parties that actually tried with the Wii U, it was one of the last to leave too.
They made ZombiU and Rayman Legends (not exclusive, but still a true gem on Wii U). I can't complain. People being mad at Ubisoft are just childish, they supported it as much as they could, but the sales were not enough and they are a business.
Now, we all know some other company that didn't even made an EAffort to begin with, don't we?
I echo the sentiment that EA would once again pick up a good concept and completely ruin it with their greed and shoddy business practices. You got to give it to Nintendo, it would be dead easy to make "Pokémons as DLC" a thing, but they never went that route.
I could see it doing wonders for NX in Japan and Capcom has been committing the series to Nintendo platforms as of late, so it could be a win-win scenario.
@Octane And that's perfectly fine for abandonware, but Nintendo has never abandoned its legacy games and brands, they are still making business with them. The NES is not an abandoned platform, stuff like Atari and Spectrum might be, though, and I understand the concern with historical preservation.
Also, not being able to run the latest FIFA is a big deal. Sport games are very important, for many players not having them is an absolute dealbreaker! Overall, the article just seemed to tick all the Wii U boxes. Is that what we want again?
They need to get real, hybrid or not, it will be competing directly with the PS4 Slim and Xbox One. In 2017, it is almost mandatory to have at least parity with 2013 hardware power. The good news is they don't have to worry with Pro or Scorpio.
@rjejr I imagine they would initially want the NX to release this year, but have encountered hardware productions issues so they announced it to March 2017. "industry leading chips" and whatnot.
This year would be ideal, March might work out, but Holiday 2017 is too late to catch the train. I sincerely hope they meet the deadline this time. And besides, delaying NX would likely mean delaying Breath of the Wild yet again. And they must be sitting on a finished Wii U version for months at least. And the universe might just explode it that happened.
@crimsontadpoles At this point, I would be satisfied with a 2 minute video showing us the real name and logo. Plus a little tease on the console itself.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The Wii U is as dead as it could be. You can't keep a corpse on store shelves for that long. If that was the case, they would at least make some more "amiibo festival" stuff to fill in the gaps.
The fan in me thinks October is still a million years away and can't wait that long. Wake me up when September ends...But Nintendo probably knows best and has everything planned for months in advance.
Regarding Super Mario Run, they don't want it to be too cheap either. I reckon something in between 5 and 10 €.
@MadAdam81 The iMac dropping floppy drive was a truly stupid move in '98.
Floppies were edging on obsolescence by then, but there was no proper replacement for quick file storage and sharing back then. No thumbsticks and the internet speeds were still in a few Kb/s range.
I own a GBA SP and this is the only major flaw I can think of that it had. At least Nintendo quickly fixed their misjudgement with newer handhelds. Apple will likely not. And Nintendo didn't do it to sell you overpriced gimmick earphones.
I don't care for mobile games and don't own anything Apple, but I see who Nintendo is targeting with it. Business wise it might be a stroke of genius to team up with Apple for this. Kimishima is already stirring things up to "print money!" again. Personally, it looks decent but nothing to get me enthusiastic about.
@ironside1911 It is on the PC Windows Shop, because Nintendo does not care enough about PC to bother with legal action for every emulator in existence. But on a rival console like the Xbox One? That's a direct threat to Nintendo's core business. Nintendo cannot sit iddle by.
As a Wii U owner, I set my expectations to this 3DS Direct to ZERO. I knew I wasn't going to get anything new.
Alas, Nintendo still managed to disappoint me and shatter my dreams. They are now set on playing a cruel game on Wii U. If they gave up on selling it, they could at least leave it be with its exclusive 1st party library.
Looks great value for money. But I'm also in the camp that prefers to play this sort of games with a Wii remote. It would be better suited for Wii U... shame.
@doctorzzim It could be blocked to 720p on the portable formfactor, but still able to output to 1080p on TV. Wii U does have some games on 1080p, so NX should be capable of that at the very least.
@Lucina 3DS and Wii enjoyed a nice level of 3rd party support, mainly from games built from the ground up for those systems. Ports from other consoles were very troublesome to make. The Wii never got Mirror's Edge and Bioshock for instance.
The GameCube on the other hand, had a small userbase but it was powerful and easy to port games from PS2 to it. It gathered arguably the most 3rd party games since the SNES heyday.
I can't maintain two console per generation, and in the past I have been loyal to Nintendo, but I just feels like I'm missing out on too many games doing so. While I do have PC which has helped get my 3rd party fix, PCs are expensive to keep up to date for gaming (That and nowadays games are so poorly optimised for PC, that they demand top of the line hardware to run on the bare minimum. I'm looking at you, Ubisoft).
If the NX is just set out to be a Nintendo box, then I am very sad to say that for the first time I may have to skip Nintendo. I love their first party output but it's not enough. Heck, it's not like they are making a new F-Zero for it.
@MadAdam81 I'm not a graphics fundamentalist. I don't care if a game runs in 720p, 1080p or whatever.. My TV is only HD Ready and I don't mind really. What I care about it that games actually run on the system. Power is important because the lack of it, means the console will not get many games as it was the case with Wii U. When we miss out on 90% of 3rd party offerings because of it, some degree of power becomes very important to have.
The Nx has to be on par with the Xbox One base model, if it stands any chance of getting mainstream support. I'm not asking for too much, I believe.
If true, I like that the legacy of both the GamePad and the Wii Remote will live on throughout NX. Don't let motion controls and 2nd screen gaming wither away.
Hopefully, this time the innovation won't deter from a capable hardware on the inside of the box as well.
I agree that 2nd screen gaming is a concept worth pursuing and I hope NX improves on it.
The thing is, apart from the GamePad concept and the 1st party games (albeit released far too slowly), the Wii U was at falter in everything else starting with its name. Marketing was almost non-existent, the IBM architecture was too exotic for nowadays developers and the hardware was under-powered for everyone other than Nintendo and Shin'en.
Comes 30th September for 24.99 Euros and the 8 new tracks are included in the disc. The DLC will also be sold on the eShop for those who chose the digital version, but no price was revealed so far.
@getyourak They added a map in an update, it is turned off by default. I don't use myself, it's nigh impossible for me to concentrate on the race and also focus on a tiny map on the screen with everything moving so damn fast. This game sure delivers on its moniker. I love it but playing it for an hour straight really tires my brain, it's insanely demanding, a worthy heir to F-Zero GX.

Re: 2DS Relaunch Makes Decent Chart Debut in Japan as Persona 5 and PS4 Run Riot
I wasn't expecting them to bother releasing the 2DS in Japan by now, to be honest.
It always struck me as something tailored for the Western market that would not appeal to Japan, but 18,000 units is not too shabby.
