@ferthepoet (Puts tin foil hat on) It's worse than I thought, then. It's an inside job! They managed to infiltrate NoE! Nintendo loyalists, fetch yer' pitchforks and torches.
@DESS-M-8 Your loss, mate. The obsolete physical disc copies are almost always cheaper than eShop prices. But I guess that's the price you gotta pay to keep up with the times! There's this little thing called competition in an open marketplace on retail products.
@sleepinglion They can be quite daft. Like on Wii we got the awful NES Soccer instead of everyone's favourite Nintendo World Cup. I remember when Iwata introduced Virtual Console back in 2005. "There won't be every game available for each system. A selection of the best will be made." Just not true.
This and Golf are really unnecessary additions to the VC, no mater how nostalgic you get. Get Super Tennis on VC at least, Nintendo. Or N64's Mario Tennis. We need N64 asap.
From Russia with Love for GameCube and Sin and Punishment: Successor of the skies for Wii. And I just might play Pokémon Y, that is if my cousin manage to purchase it tomorrow. He has a 3DS, I don't (yet). I'll just have to tag along him for the time being.
I think families with a Wii are still way more likely to upgrade to a Wii U than to any other console. Once they learn that it is compatible with all their Wii games and controllers, they won't want to hear about Playstation or Xbox. And the games they know and like will be on Wii U. Wii Sports Club (still think they should release it on disc), Wii Fit, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Wii Party...Plus the Skylanders and Disney games. But, I agree the GamePad is not that attractive for families, they'll be using the Wii remotes more. Nintendo need to convey the message that Wii U is about playing with the controls you like, the GamePad is just A controller. The thing is some people will only replace Wii when the console stops working or they can't find any more games for it in stores, so there's a long wait for Nintendo.
"Pas d'image disponible". Hum, I don't think this rumour is anything to be trusted but I wish Nintendo got wild and adamant with several colours, I'd love to see a red, green or purple (yay, Gamecube!) one. We still need the White Premium Pack first.
I think Vita TV is a terrible idea, so no Nintendo should just continue manufacturing the current Wii models like it has, rather than making the mistake of their competitors. But software development and marketing efforts should be focused only on Wii U.
@ACK You nailed it. I don't have a smart-phone, nor it is likely that I will any time soon. My phone already does what I want from it, calls and text messages. And Pacman. And Puzzle Bobble. Point is, as a gamer I find my money much better spent in a 3DS or even a Vita, than on a pricey smart phone. I might get a tablet, though, but I assure it's not because I want to play games on it. Shame they're disregarding the second-screen built into the GamePad, entirely.
I'm still playing this on Wii U, partly because I have no other option since the PC version requires a whooping 6GB of RAM which I don't have, but hope that at least the game looks better than on 360/PS3. They could make it exactly the same as those consoles and not give the Wii U version any special attention, but since there is a team working specifically on let's hope there are no performance issues or loadings, etc. The hackin' part of the game is not going to get any special features with the touchscreen?
@ScorpionMG That is the way I perceive it to be, too. Playstation 4 seems a very strong contender for the 1st place, Wii U could easily achieve the 2nd spot or even go toe-to-toe with PS4 depending on how hard Nintendo is willing to play ball, but the Xbox One doesn't spark any interest in me nor anyone I know. One may sellout to the most loyal fans this year, but after that, unless more compelling mainstream exclusives show up, it's set up for a nose dive. I don't have a crystal ball, so this generation will stills gives us some surprises, tough.
@Peach64 I see. I'm also not very keen on the whole mentality of selling the "NEW game : Incomplete edition" at full price, and a year later releasing GOTY/Deluxe Complete edition" for a lower price. It just detracts from people buying games on launch. That's why I don't usually buy 3rd party games at full price. I also very seldom buy DLC, unless it's really worth it. And don't get me started on season passes...
In the words of Peter Griffin: OMG, who the hell cares? Seriously, I might pick up the regular version if I find it at a good price. Looks fun enough to play casually with some friends and I like DC Comics. Don't think I'll really miss the DLC, though nor would I bother with it at full price.
I agree with ActionMan, this would make Nintendo look bad and desperate, this would make Nintendo look like Capcom, heaven forbid.
The handheld and the home console should have a bunch of exclusive, compelling reasons to own each one.
If Nintendo wants to remake Luigi's Mansion, it would be much better if they made a full HD remake of the GCN original like they did with Wind Waker. It's been over 12 years, so it's more than acceptable. But I would still prefer Luigi's Mansion 3. Just no handheld ports, please.
I still plan to play it on 3DS. I'm not keen on having portable ports on the home console from Nintendo itself. Make Luigi's Mansion 3 for Wii U from the ground up instead.
@Pod It's on 3DS, technically it's 128-bit anyway, never mind the art style. Plus, it's called 8-bit land to pay tribute to Master System games the two characters play. I love Regular Show, and sort of like watching Adventure Time from time to time, so I'm highly anticipating these. Perhaps the AT game for Wii U would be a better Christmas gift for my cousin, given the multi-player is fun enough. But Regular Show is on my list. A cartoon with a SEGA Master System on it is instantly better than a cartoon without it, dare you deny this universal truth?
Aside from VC, they could do this with a few Wii U/ 3DS games. I'm thinking Super Smash Brothers. They would lose immediate profits on software, but could seriously win in hardware sales. "Buy it for 3DS and Nintendo will offer you the Wii U game for download. Or vice-versa. Don't have a Wii U yet? Aren't you tempted to get one, now that we´re offering you this amazing game?"
Risky move, but with good marketing they could make it work to have the 3DS install base and the power of Smash Bros. fuelling Wii U sales.
@Ernest_The_Crab Excite Bots sold poorly because they never bother to release it in Europe! And even Japan only got it as a Club Nintendo reward, if I'm not mistaken.
Excite Truck is one of the best games of the Wii launch window, it just lacked the polish and more focus on multiplayer that Excite Bots seems to have achieved. I would love to have another Excite Truck in glorious 1080p on Wii U, hope Monster Games is working on it. Either that or F-ZEEEROOOO!
Nintendo has tons of IPs they don't seem to be able to capitalise on. Not to mention the delays on the ones they do choose to make. Whether hire more people and make more 1st party teams, or make collaborations with 3rd parties, Nintendo. You are quite understaffed.
@PinkSpider A new handheld console that plays Vita games and PC-Engine HuCards. Finally play Cho Aniki on the go, while skyping with friends and family.
@erv They won't do that because you could just install it for you and lend it indefinitely to a friend. They would have to put in place a DRM system like the Xbox One originally intended and God forbid that. We're better off as we are in that regard.
Currently they have NES games on both the 3DS and Wii U. They should allow you to purchase it on one platform and play it on the other, its common sense. Also, the two eShop accounts should be tied so that if I have 5 euros to spend on 3DS, I should be able to use that money on Wii U if I see fit and vice-versa.
@andreoni79 At least on Amazon it is. Truth to be told, I don't know how I would get games for my Nintendo's if I hadn't the chance of importing from the UK. Here in Portugal, the games are expensive as heck, probably the same prices as on Italy. The only thing that makes me sad it that Nintendo is now taking its first steps in localising some games to Portuguese, and if I bought them on the UK, I wouldn't have the Portuguese version. But third-parties are a no-brainer. Most competitive market for videogames on the EU, period. Rule Britannia.
@andreoni79
Care to elaborate, dear sir? How are Wii U costumers being fooled with the opportunity to purchase a critically-acclaimed non-linear stealth game with improved boss battles balance, extra content included and GamePad integration for a measly €30? Feels nice to be fooled like this, I have to confess.
Everyone whining about this being a 2 year old game: It's 24 quid on Amazon!! So clearly, Square-Enix understands that this is a 2 year old game and that it would not be reasonable to charge full price for it, even to goofy Nintendo costumers. They did the sensible thing here, we're being treated fair and Square.
Pier Solar... wasn't that the retro project that wanted to make the last RPG for Mega Drive a few years ago? What happened, did they ever went on to manufacture the cartridges or just chickened out?
I am seriously considering this, I've never played Deus Ex but looks like I've been missing a lot. Amazon UK has this listed for only £24, which is an almost irresistible price. Don't know about the US pricing, though. I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for it, is it possible that for once Europe is getting a better deal than US?
Hey, I loved the Game Boy Micro. If I can play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones on it, without a problem reading the text, I think the screen was more than appropriate.
About the 2DS, it's not targeting me, but I agree with the article, there's a lot of potential costumers it can win over, namely small children and the older fence-sitters from the Nintendo DS generation.
@0Games Yes and yes. Wii sold more than 100 million units to this day, and is still played quite a lot, I believe. But you do know that Wii remotes are also controllers for Wii U, right? Even when the Wii is gone, they'll carry on selling them years to come with Wii U.
@bezerker99 Sic transit gloria mundi. That doesn't make it right, though. At least, Iwata seems to know the value of the employees on his company, as seen by the fact that he is one of the few CEOs more willing to cut his own pay-check than sending competent people to the unemployment cue due to bad management of which they took no part of.
I think they totally missed the boat. Six months ago, it could have sold satisfying numbers. In December, this game will sell miserably, there are a lot of heavy-weights from Nintendo coming.
Good, Sonic's in it. Check. Next, I really want Snake back. And if another 3rd party newcomer is coming still, I want Bomberman. Guess it's time to start talking to Konami, Nintendo.
I find it a bit premature, really. Are they just discontinuing the Family Edition (a.k.a the 2nd) model or also the Wii Mini? They could still keep the Mini for a while more, it's no threat to Wii U, and it's a budget-priced console that will still sell decent amounts. Heck, NoE announced recently a new Wii Mini bundle with Mario Kart Wii.
As for my first model Wii, it still has plenty of life in it, there's still many Wii and Gamecube games I want to play. Will be keeping it side by side with Wii U.
Wii shall be remembered for years to come, I think it shook the industry in a way we haven't seen since the original Playstation and goind even further the NES back in the 80's (Now that I think of it, Wii is quite close to Playstation in total units sold, go Wii, just a bit more for another record!).
Looks like a great concept but it's too early in development to say how it will turn out. Of course, coming from people with Goldeneye 007 on their résumé, one can hope for the best. The title is weird, though. Chompy Chomp Chomp Party or CCCP for short. Am I the only one seeing this?
@cmk8 Seriously? There are some rare GameCube games I'd like to play like Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia or Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater that are going too freakin' expensive nowadays - even the used copies - for my tastes. I'd like to have them at a reasonable price (wouldn't mind paying up to € 20) digitally on Wii U. Think Earthbound.
@elbcen I don't like achievements, but if you do, that's fine. Feels too much like teasing us with a proverbial carrot to make us play in ways we do not intend to. I play a game because of the game itself, I'm not in it for rewards. Nintendo could implement such system as long as it can be easily ignored or hidden for people like me, who don't care about it and then both camps could be happy.
Miiverse for 3DS and N64 for Wii U Virtual Console. I want a promotion with Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings at 0,64 € each, like what they did to NES/SNES.
SEGA consoles on VC would be nice too. I couldn't honestly care less about Master System (I have Fantasy Zone on Wii, only to find out later there's a much superior Turbografx-16 version of it; You could say the same about Master System's Sonic games; it was meant to be played on Mega Drive) and 32X really had no good games as far as I'm concerned, but Mega Drive, Saturn and hopefully Dreamcast would win me over.
I never played the original Gamecube game, but this is just begging for Nintendo to step up and fund them. Come on, Nintendo, you could get an exclusive game on a cult franchise.
@DestinyMan iQue are not knockoffs. It is a joint venture between Nintendo and a Chinese company, quite simply it is a brand of Nintendo. It would be tremendous for Nintendo to sell the Wii U on China, with the iQue brand or not. But perhaps, the older and cheaper Wii would be a bigger hit even.
3DS is actually already sold legally in China, just rebranded as iQue 3DS. Like all portables dating back to the Game Boy Advance, the legislation apparently left a loophole that allowed for handhelds and TV plug-and-play systems.
@tsm7 If I'm not mistaken Panasonic was the company that Nintendo partnered with to develop the GameCube optical discs and drive. This, after the failed attempts to switch from cartridge to optical media with Sony and Philips in 90's, as we all know, was crucial to Nintendo. Hence, Japan got the Panasonic Q DVD player/ GameCube console which proved to be a commercial failure but a wonderful collector's item I would kill to have, and I believe they still work together for Wii and Wii U. So whatever Nintendo and Panasonic are cooking together now, I hope we get a tasty slice of it soon.
@Dr_Corndog My first Sonic game was Sonic the Hedgehog 2... on the Master System. How weird is 8-bit Sonic to you? On another note, I do hope we get more of SEGA's amazing franchises than just Sonic. A NiGHTS game properly done( unlike the Wii version, apparently), could sell really well on Nintendo consoles, you know that SEGA? SEGA Rally on Wii U would fill an empty spot as of now... Virtua Tennis, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Chu Chu Rocket as a downloadable title to play on the GamePad, Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball for Christ's sake.

Re: Extended Nintendo Network and Miiverse Maintenance Confirmed for 30th September
Re: Shadow of the Eternals is Officially "On Hold"
I never played the original Gamecube game, but this is just begging for Nintendo to step up and fund them. Come on, Nintendo, you could get an exclusive game on a cult franchise.
Re: China Removes Game Console Ban
@DestinyMan iQue are not knockoffs. It is a joint venture between Nintendo and a Chinese company, quite simply it is a brand of Nintendo.
It would be tremendous for Nintendo to sell the Wii U on China, with the iQue brand or not. But perhaps, the older and cheaper Wii would be a bigger hit even.
Re: China Removes Game Console Ban
3DS is actually already sold legally in China, just rebranded as iQue 3DS. Like all portables dating back to the Game Boy Advance, the legislation apparently left a loophole that allowed for handhelds and TV plug-and-play systems.

Re: Nintendo Acquires 27% of Panasonic’s PUX Technology, Which Includes Voice Recognition
Re: SEGA: Sonic Titles Perform "Really, Really Well on Nintendo Platforms"
