The grind is limited to winning 15 races a day. You can't get more points, so it's not a huge time investment - especially because I think it's great fun.
But yeah, it's at least 5,49€ a month if you want to keep up with the rest. That's 1/10th of the price of Mario Kart 8, but at least the game puts plenty of fresh spins on the classic formula and it brings new content every second week. It has 108 courses now!
I never bought anything else other than the Gold Pass, and with skill and strategy and a daily 45min time investment, I always manage to be first or second in the cups. I'm still aboard, and it's been my favourite racer in 2019.
@Kilamanjaro Undertale was the best RPG I played this year. I was very late, but still was in for a real treat. Undertale is also my number two RPG of the decade. (Xenoblade Chronicles X comes first).
Hidden gems are games you never (maybe once) heard about before.
Some people here don't understand the meaning, including some NL writers.
My hidden gems for Switch in 2019 are
The Rainsdowne Players
Rock Boshers DX - Director's Cut
Agartha-S
Reventure
I completed them all 100% and give them each a 9/10. They're very original and fun games for just a couple of bucks.
Big names like Bandai Namco and their well-known PlayStation JRPG megahit Ni no Kuni don't even belong on this list. That's one for the ''Best Switch RPGs of 2019''.
New Super Lucky's Tale is from Microsoft and even got a demo!! It's a great game for a ''Best Switch Platformers of 2019'' list, but I'd rather have some more hidden gems in a list about hidden gems.
"Aiming the on-screen crosshair with the right Joy-Con’s analogue stick" What a bad suggestion when Switch has a touchscreen, IR sensor, and gyro motion, three control options that are way better!
@KingBowser86 I don't need melodical songs for every scene, I like zen-style / atmosphere / meditation music without a melody as well. It's just a matter of taste, and you don't seem to be able to appreciate that particular style in BotW, or maybe at all? You expected/wanted something more melodical, I understand that. But if you were into real ambient stuff, you'd acknowledge that BoTW is a real gem in the music department. Other than that it has plenty of catchy melodies as well.
The worst Switch game I experienced this year was HIDDEN by Sabec. All of the games listed here are 10 out of 10's compared to that complete failure. And looking at Sabec's other games on the eShop I guess everything made by them is trash.
I just discussed the old Xenosaga / Xenogears games with a friend yesterday, and it's one of the few game/collection remasters we'd buy (next to the Mother trilogy and the Quintet trilogy). Unfortunately we won't get anything that is as awesome as those. And we don't even need remasters, simple ports would be just as good.
@Alucard83 That's not true, BotW has music almost everywhere, it has just more laid back, slow and ambient tunes. Just check out the soundtrack (not the short CD that's just a fraction of the games soundtrack), it has more and better music than most Zelda games, especially the huge amount of quality calm/chill music.
@Impaler-D Aren't there four games? Xenosaga (3 games) and Xenogears (1 game)?
Americans really missed out. Terranigma made up for all the games Europe missed out on (Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, all Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests). Well maybe not - but it's nevertheless just as good as those.
Broken games, and games with wrong information must be refunded, simple as that.
Nintendo refunded me the broken game Last Ninja 3, and another game, ToriBash, after it got delisted and wasn't transfered over to my Wii U for some glitchy reason, with no way to redownload it (the Wii Shop was still functional at the time).
So, in special cases like these, Nintendo is going to refund digital games, even way back in 2009.
@Smigit I know, but the problem still stands: You pay a lot for the extra armor (100+ bucks worth of amiibo) and you have extra work to juggle items around your inventory instead of having everything accessible at all times.
I need to sell 7 pieces of armor that I won, and gained, and worked for to access the stuff I bought with real money. And if I want the other items back, I have to work for them again (as they cost rupees).
The 100% is only for the map and nothing else. Getting 100% Map is only 25% Game completion. It doesn't include 100% Quests, 100% Items, and 100% Treasure Chests.
@Smigit I completed every other Zelda game 100%. It's weird to have 17 Zelda games encouraging and conditioning you to 100% them and then 1 new Zelda game that encourages you to not complete it 100% (and I have all 900 Korok seeds).
Other than that I never gave my armor different colors, even though there is a dyer in the game. There's the option to have armor in different colors, but there's not even enough room to have everything in default colors, and that locks completionists out to even try that option.
Another showcase of the endless possibilities that make this game a true masterpiece.
However, I'm still annoyed that they never fixed the unobtainable chests in Hateno and Aris Beach, and never updated the game to have enough item slots for all 107 pieces of armor (you can only have up to 100, so you have to get rid of 7). It irks me because we paid quite a lot for all these amiibo+DLC but we cannot fully reap all their bonuses. Usually Nintendo is quick to fix stuff like that, especially for a game that is so highly regarded, but they ignored it for whatever reason.
Just like most people have to pay rent instead of owning a house, and just like most people have to pay a monthly electricity bill instead of having their own self-sustainable power generator, this is another step forward in taking away something from the masses in favor of a draining subscription. To hell with that!
Stop moving the industry forwards and the consumers backwards with your business drivel, Reggie Kong, or I demand forever that you produce us all a physical translated copy of MOTHER 3 for free!
Screen tearing doesn't look great, but input delay doesn't play great. I'm very sensitive to input delay and more of a player than a watcher, so options would be great.
The NMH3 trailer looks so unique that I had to watch it multiple times, with pausing on plenty on frames. It's a really cool art style that fits so well and brings anime into a new direction, and I can't wait for the game.
One of the few master developers of openworld metroidvanias call their games just puzzle platformers?? If this description was true, then Hollow Knight would be nothing more than just a basic beat'em up and Axiom Verge would be nothing more than just a linear run&gun.
Monkey Barrels looks very interesting and it's on my wishlist for now.
I loved both Good-Feel Yoshi games. For me they are the best Yoshi games ever made. Good-Feel + Yoshi = Day One purchase.
I also enjoyed Kirby's Epic Yarn from beginning to completion. (That game would look amazing in HD, hint hint!)
Wario Land: The Shake Dimension was neat, but also very very hard. One of the few Nintendo platformers I didn't complete 100% and so I'm not totally satisfied with it.
But the best thing would be a new Goemon game. I'm a huge fan of the two N64 titles.
I liked the black borders of the EU version. Almost every Nintendo published game had them. There were just a few exceptions like Majora's Mask, Banjo-Tooie, Pokémon Puzzle League, and Perfect Dark. Back then I was stingy about these irregularities, but now I don't care, it's just the box.
However, I still can't stomach the red stripe NA boxes, all of em.
Spotify on a portable console makes more sense than on a stationary console! But Nintendo has real artists: musicians, sound engineers, live bands, touring symphony orchestras. It would be a shame if people listen to Spotify instead of Nintendo's high quality soundtracks during playtime.
Nintendo went all-in with Mario Kart Tour. I thought mobile gaming was all just low-tech, simplified garbage compared to consoles. And for me it was. Even Nintendo's mobile versions of beloved franchises were several steps down from their original source. Until Mario Kart Tour. This one is even better than some of the mainline games.
Oh, it's a PS3 game like Skyrim? Those would run on the old Wii U as well, so having a great port on Switch isn't much to rave about.
DOOM, Wolfenstein II, The Witcher III, and The Outer Worlds on the other hand, those are the current gen games that demonstrate the Switchs capabilities.
However, Alien Isolation is a great-looking super-atmospheric game still, and it's neat that new filter techniques have been developed to make the Switch version look even better than PS4.
So, now that Resident Evil is kind of deconfirmed (though it's great to have these spirits), that means only Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright are left for popular Capcom Smashers.
101% in 1h 14min seems slow nowadays but back then - as a 13 year old boy - it was a great achievement. No-one was able to beat me.
DKC isn't known very much for his 2 player modes, but I loved it so much that I wanted to have a second SNES Controller. The game had 3 save slots so I had to make the most out of them and bought one!
Slot 1: 101% in Single Player
Slot 2: 101% in Versus for Team Red and 101% for Team Yellow
Slot 3: 101% in Co-op
And I did it all without a second player (my family was useless for fluid and fastpaced games while I was fine handling two controllers at once).
Everyone into gaming should have lived through such exciting times.
And the graphics! Even my father was mesmerized by the swinging lights in the mines and the underwater areas back then. Well, I can go on forever as I have so many vivid memories, but..
I would have swapped Simon and Snake for Goemon in Smash. (Richter is cool though.)
Yeah, I think Castlevania and Metal Gear are not that fun, but Goemon is one of Konami's best! (And Bomberman)
I'm about to buy Stardew Valley. I just bought an eShop card for it. I just wait for the next eShop sale and grab it. Or is there any news about a physical version? Can't wait much longer. Almost bought Gleaner Heights instead.
Where were the haters in the last 20 years when the Pokémon games were stale and boring? Pokémon Sword/Shield are the most interesting Pokémon games since Gold/Silver.
On one hand, people are against Chinese videogame developers because of politics, and at the same time the same people turn to politics to change the Western videogame market. The trolls reached a new level of brainlessness.
Tencent could make lots of remakes, much like Grezzo (Ocarina of Time 3D, Four Swords - Anniversary Edition, and Majora's Mask 3D). Grezzo learnt enough from these three remakes to co-develop a new Zelda game (Tri-Force Heroes) and then another remake (Link's Awakening for Switch).
N64, Gamecube, Wii, and even Nintendo DS / 3DS classics and masterpieces would be great to see on the Switch in HD and portable for the first time. Tencent could show what they're able to achieve (under Nintendo's supervision) and for once do something nice and learn from the masters how it's done.
Tencent is a Switch developer already. They made f2p MOBA Arena of Valor for Switch.
When they said that there were "new animations", they weren't lying.
I never heard Game Freak saying they wanted to rework everything. Why would they change iconic and already perfect gestures and mimics or an already perfect polygon model? Pretty farfetch'd dreams these Pokémaniacs have.
It's just opinions. And not even accountable opinions since all those complainers haven't completed the game 100%. They're not even review opinions. Not even preview opinions. These opinions don't matter a single bit. They aren't even opinions, it's banter. Game Freak should have ignored it either way, or at most, pick out the constructive banter to analyse it.
This is not the Pokémon game / world /continent that features all Mon. That was clear some time ago. It's not Pokémon Ultimate, it's just Sword and Shield.
It's just my experience, you know, with the friends I have and the gaming communities I'm part of. Once people get the gist of UNDERTALE (the unfolding suprises and innovations that are too great to spoil here and that people can only experience if they invested a certain amount of time into it), they will at least appreciate it a whole lot more.
I haven't found a person yet who played through UNDERTALE and didn't appreciate it for what it does or didn't outright love it.
There are only four reasons I can think of where UNDERTALE can be underappreciated:
1. You haven't played it long enough (The first couple of hours are kinda slow and do not foreshadow its greatness).
2. You're not an RPG fan.
3. It's your first RPG and you have nothing to compare it to.
4. You're not fluent in English or Japanese and therefore don't understand integral parts of it.
If I cheat on my girlfriend, I will eventually (and should) lose her.
If I cheat at my job, I will eventually (and should) lose it.
If I cheat in online games, then yeah, I should be banned and eventually lose the opportunity to play it, doesn't matter if I make money with it or not.
Those oblivious addicted crybabies really need a slap left and right on the face to wake up, because they damage other players online experience, especially when there are 99 other players with you in one round of Fortnite. Some of them have paid lots of money and these dumb cheaters mess up the game experience for them!
Popular game streamers are like idols for kids. If you teach your followers how to cheat, it's the right course of action that you should be banned for life. That's teaching kids how it's rightfully done! Just as you'll need to find a new girl or a new job, you will have to find a new game. Accept it, and move on.
I hope someone sends this comment section to these cheaters. Maybe then they might learn something.
@Doofenshmirtz I think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Taiko no Tatsujin, Little Town Hero, and Pokémon Sword/Shield are not disappointing games. They're freakin' huge!
The people who don't love UNDERTALE simply haven't played it long enough.
That's what happens if you cheat online and that's good. My friend got banned from Mario Kart Tour for cheating and I laughed at him for the cheater he is. Suits him.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Will Star The Musical Talent Of Undertale Creator Toby Fox
@Ardisan @Zoya
Re: Ninja Thinks Pro Players And Streamers Who Cheat Should Be Treated Differently

I think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Taiko no Tatsujin, Little Town Hero, and Pokémon Sword/Shield are not disappointing games. They're freakin' huge!
The people who don't love UNDERTALE simply haven't played it long enough.
Re: Professional Fortnite Player Gets Banned For Life After Uploading Videos Of Himself Cheating
That's what happens if you cheat online and that's good.
My friend got banned from Mario Kart Tour for cheating and I laughed at him for the cheater he is. Suits him.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Now The Best-Selling Fighting Game In History
This is a rare case of best game in the genre getting the recognition it deserves.
