Here's 7 hidden gems of mine (all with a beautiful unique 2D pixel style):
Iron Crypticle is a very good arcadey rogue like Smash TV/Robotron twin stick shooter for up to 4 players co-op. There's a huge item collection and a couple of achievements.
Tikipod also released the fantastic Rock Boshers DX - Director's Cut and the nice Defender/Uridium mix Aqua Kitty UDX. They're all just a few MB's in size and run smooth as butter.
The Rainsdowne Players is an EarthBound-inspired town adventure with friends and townspeople to help, and story ideas to find and mix so you can attract more visitors to your theater. There's a sweet story, and even a day-night-cycle. For just under 70MB in size its hardly even noticable.
In Reventure you have to find the 100 endings in a metroidvania-style quirky medieval pixel world. And it doesn't matter if you get to the worst ending in a couple of seconds or find your way to the best ending. You have to find all 100 to unlock the final ending. There's a platforming world full of secrets, traps, shortcuts, a variety of items that change up your weight and abilities, and characters to interact with. If you die that's also an ending, so often you'll just find new combinations of items to find new ways of dying. The beta pitch game is also unlockable with 10 endings, and it recently had an update adding more secrets.
Cyber Protocol is a flashy puzzle game with a clean neon art style. It is simple, challenging, stylish, and fun. There's tons of stages that get harder and crazier as you move on, and you can try to beat them on time or with no deaths.
UNDERTALE Oh yeah, everybody knows and loves the game. But it fits the theme. Another fun game made with pixels.
I still think Nintendo should add more 1st party characters...
Chibi-Robo, Elma (Xenoblade Chronicles X), Saki Amamiya (Sin and Punishment), 4WD (Stunt Race FX), Kyle Hyde (Hotel Dusk), Ashley Robbins (Another Code/Trace Memory), Ricky Winterborn (Wave Race/1080°), Jumpin' Jim Rivers (Excitebike 64), Zelda characters like Midna, Impa, Skull Kid, Tingle, Mario characters like Pauline, Toad, Kamek, Waluigi, Kirby characters like Bandana Waddle Dee, Donkey Kong characters like Dixie Kong, Starfox characters like Peppy and Krystal, Animal Crossing characters like K.K. Slider and Tom Nook, EarthBound characters like Spiderbot Porky. Just no more Pokémon or Fire Emblem characters if possible (Ultimate already got new ones for both series and plenty fighters allround).
And if they add more 3rd parties then they should be from historical and iconic series like Bubble Bobble, Wonder Boy, Contra, Maniac Mansion, DOOM, Mortal Kombat, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Harvest Moon, etc. (Yeah I know Tetris, Goemon and Bomberman are deconfirmed).
1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3. Super Mario 64
4. Mischief Makers
5. Tetrisphere
6. Conker's Bad Fur Day
7. Perfect Dark
8. DOOM 64
9. Paper Mario
10. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
11. Jet Force Gemini
12. Super Smash Bros.
13. Banjo-Kazooie & Banjo-Tooie & Donkey Kong 64
14. Mario Party 1 & 2 & 3
15. GoldenEye
16. Mario Kart 64
17. F-Zero X & Excitebike 64
18. Space Station Silicon Valley
19. Sin and Punishment
20. Wetrix
Honourable mention: Doubutsu no mori (Animal Crossing)
I got my 4 Joycons back last week. The frustrating drift on all 4 is temporarily fixed.
But now one of the left Joycons has a new issue. It just disconnects from the Switch randomly, even when it's slided into the console. I need to reattach it for it to work again, but it only works for 5-10 minutes. I think the new problem is even worse.
Comparing the two I don't see any similarities in Super Mario Bros. 35. It is a completely different take on Super Mario Bros. with completey different modes.
This guy probably hasn't played SMB35 yet and is just assuming wrongly.
@Eel Boundary Break proves that Smash backgrounds are completely 3D and not just flat backgrounds. A png background would behave very differently at sunset and night and certainly would not have the smooth realtime light and shadow effects that you can see in Smash's demonstration footage.
The reason why it's possible to see so far is that it's just graphics, not interactive objects.
A short 3 minute presentation? Doesn't sound like a 3rd party. Those get elaborate introductions.
Sounds like a "small" one by Nintendo, like Chibi-Robo, Geno, Pauline, Dixie Kong, Saki Amamiya, Bandana Waddle Dee, Isaac, Waluigi and that would be awesome still.
However, if a presentation comes later, then yeah, could be anyone. They tend to add NES icons, so I can imagine Bubble Bobble and Ninja Gaiden easily.
After Mortal Kombat SNES, Nintendo grew up. Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 were uncensored. Nintendo wanted DOOM on SNES and supported it with the FX Chip. Nintendo even released their own brutal SNES fighter with Killer Instinct.
The N64 started into its first year with Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Killer Instinct Gold, DOOM 64, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Mace: The Dark Age, and GoldenEye.
I really hate the Joycons (and I love every other Nintendo controller) since they break in just under a year. I sent 4 drifting ones to repair and it felt like a struggle to get fixed ones back for free.
Travis would be a fantastic addition. I 100% completed both Wii games, and beat other Suda51 games, such as killer7, Flower Sun and Rain, and Sine Mora EX.
I picked up Travis Strikes Again for Switch and will hopefully beat it in time before No More Heroes III.
I can understand Cloud and Joker being in Smash as Final Fantasy and Shin Megami Tensei started on the NES 30+ years ago and have plenty great Nintendo exclusive games. They just have that huge extra that can't be said about other 3rd Party characters like Dante, Sora, or Crash. Those definately need more time (and good games) in the Nintendo oven.
In no particular order - happy with any of those:
6. Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes)
7. Phoenix Wright
8. Professor Layton
9. Bomberman
10. Crono (Chrono Trigger)
11. Wonder Boy
12. Deathborn (F-ZERO GX)
13. Ark (Terranigma)
14. Fulgore or Conker or Joanna Dark (Rare)
15. Skull Kid or Midna or Tingle (Zelda)
Honorable mentions: Goemon (I know new costume deconfirms), Marina Liteyears (highly unlikely), Guybrush Threepwood, Doomguy, Scorpion, Monster Hunter, etc. ^^
I think the bottom half of the EU/NA one is screwed up. I can't make any sense of it. Parts of Samus suit blending in with the stars? It looks like a cheap copy paste job. The Japanese one is classy.
Is this why we never got Gamecube games? Because of glitchy emulation even 18 years later?
No quality control for a release like this? Any playtester would have discovered this graphic bug immediately!
I hope they fix this and add Gamecube Controller support while they're at it.
Nintendo's quality control is all over the place. For example Paper Mario: The Origami King is such a perfect and polished game from start to finish. Not a single issue, no bugs or flaws. Absolutely wonderful quality. Luigi's Mansion 3 however can softlock, and has a couple of ugly bugs as well that they never seem to fix.
I already own and completed all 3 of them in their original first print run, and for this collection I hoped to get Galaxy 2 in HD as well! That one's truly missing for me to be really sold.
If I snag a copy, I'll complete them chronologically. 120 Stars in Super Mario 64 shouldn't take more than a couple hours anyway.
I have all 3 games in multiple versions, so my favourite thing about this are the ''35 little touches'' on the clock. It sounds like almost a 4th game.
But I think it wouldn't have hurt, if they had put even more Mario and especially Game&Watch titles on it, like the relatively unknown Mario's Cement Factory and Mario's Bombs Away.
1. Wonder Boy (1986) Sega Master System, Wii Virtual Console
2. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (1987) Arcade, Wii VC
3. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (1987) Sega Master System, Wii VC
4. Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (1988) Sega Mega Drive, Wii VC
5. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (1989) Sega Master System, Wii VC
6. Wonder Boy in Monster World (1991) Sega Mega Drive, Wii VC
7. Monster World IV (1994) Sega Mega Drive, Wii VC
8. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (2017) Nintendo Switch
9. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (2018) Nintendo Switch
10. Wonder Boy Returns Remix (2019) Nintendo Switch
11. SEGA AGES - Wonder Boy: Monster Land (2019) Nintendo Switch
12. Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World (2021) Nintendo Switch
Wonder Boy had a clone on NES called Adventure Island. It turned into a seperate series that took many cues from the Wonder Boy series. All of the big main titles were on the Wii Virtual Console, along with a brandnew WiiWare game (Adventure Island: The Beginning) and other de-licensed Wonder Boy ports such as the 2 Turbografx CD games Monster Lair and The Dynastic Hero.
As soon as the second game, Wonder Boy turned from a classic platformer into a prime example in the Metroidvania genre in a time where only games such as Metroid 1 and Zelda II existed. With The Dragon's Trap in 1989, Wonder Boy took over the crown, and held it until 1994's Super Metroid. If you look for other good Wonder Boy inspired side scrolling action adventures you might want to check out the Shantae series too.
On Switch you basically get the best remakes of Wonder Boy 1 (Wonder Boy Returns Remix), Wonder Boy 2 (SEGA AGES - Wonder Boy: Monster Land), Wonder Boy 3 (Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap), and Wonder Boy 5 (Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World). So only a remake of Wonder Boy 4 (Wonder Boy in Monster World) is missing - if you don't count the side-title Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair.
I bought all the 7 (or maybe 8?) Wii Wonder Boy games. I really need to pick up the 5 Switch Wonder Boy games soon. Topnotch gameplay and music, and back then (and still today) some of the very best Metroidvanias.
Just weeks ago I was amazed by the clearest night sky I've ever seen. I saw an ocean of tiny stars layered behind the ones you can normally see. It was one of the most beautiful things ever. I love Andromeda.
I'd love FFCC: My Life as a King 2 with more than just one town to develop.
I didn't care much for the other FFCC games, though FFCC: Echoes of Time was a vast improvement over this one.
They made a mistake, deleted it, corrected it, and re-uploaded it. In that process YouTube handles it as if it was a new video, and any number of likes, dislikes and views gets deleted. Is that right?
So what's the problem now? Is this a news article about toxic Pokémongos? Or is it something to fill a slow news weekend? I guess it's because of the name Pokémon Unite when in reality it should be called Pokémon Divide?
Personally speaking, these spoiled kids can't get the throat full enough. There is a new Pokémon game coming out every other month and still they're capable of being little trolls. Guess what, not every Pokémon game is meant for you. I don't care much for most Pokémon titles either, but I don't make a theatrical piece out of that.
Hmm, even though the premise was silly and the gameplay was shallow, I'm disappointed in Nintendo for being cowards. Why do we have age restriction options for the console in the first place? It's meaningless when stuff like this can happen.
A dumb joke of a game like this they're able to take down, but horrible Joycons they made themselves they're not able to take down and revise.
The masses have accepted war, brutality, and gorefests, they have accepted gambling, microtransactions, and other means of brain manipulation and controversy in gaming. It's all on here on the eShop, but a stupid joke must be banned.
And the caved devs don't make it any better. Porting a game by accident? Now that's a first. I'm now more ashamed of their cowardness and untruthfulness than I am of their product.
For me the problem is not even Nintendo or Ultimate Games. The problem is NintendoLife and similar news outlets that hype such things out of proportion. Why has NintendoLife no age restrictions in place? Why are kids able to read articles about games not meant for them? This should've run smoothly into the 16+ or 18+ category, but now it's gone. Congratulations!!
I find this not more controversial than the thousand killing games on the platform. This is harmless and silly (and self-censored), and shouldn't pop up in your eShop catalog anyway with age restrictions set up. I will recommend this to a friend just for laughs.
Come to think how influencing Super Metroid is, to the point that it's a historical game, it's probably the biggest commercial flop ever. For a game of this caliber not even reaching the TOP 30 on the SNES sales chart is a travesty. Not nearly enough gamers have bought it despite it getting perfect scores even back in the day. With just a million games sold, this game was just way ahead of its time. If you had a SNES and haven't bought this back then, you were one of the 48 million people with bad taste in gaming.
Thanks for the heads up, I missed some Smash spirits (Pokémon Sword/Shield ones). Fortunately the game was eventually updated so that anyone was able to get them.
I hope Nintendo does the same for TETRIS 99. I missed two events, and it seems there's no way to unlock the themes from the missed events.
I think whoever buys them will not make a difference, they're all the same. It will be just a logo swap.
Except Nintendo. If they buy WB Games I expect a rise in quality in all their future products and respectful handling of their IPs.
How can you be $200 billion in debt anyway without getting shot from all sides?
English and German? That looks very much like a localised European version. Great game, btw. One of the shorter RPGs, but maybe it felt a bit short because you play 7 vastly different characters from 7 very different times and worlds.
This happens in almost all communities!
It's one of the reasons Nintendo stays out of it.
And where are the parents? Why are underaged people travelling across the world to play in unofficial, mismanaged, unsafe tournaments? Things like this are bound to happen.
The fault is by the parents who let their children go into unknown territory.
Vostok Inc. was a demo I liked, I found the retail version real cheap and spent 25+ hours on it. I also bought Disgaea 5 Complete, Yoshi's Crafted World, Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Jacob Jazz's Baobabs Mausoleum after playing the demos.
Recently, I enjoyed the demos to Infini, Tangle Tower, Wunderling, Kunai, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories, and Dandy Dungeon: Legend of Brave Yamada.

Re: Epic's Apple Lawsuit Could Have "Significant And Serious Ramifications" For Platform Holders Like Nintendo

I guess they have no problem with 3rd party's selling their DLC / microtrans-items through their owns shops in addition to Nintendo's eShop.
Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Pikmin 3 Deluxe Demo Seemingly Revealed
I expect better bonus content: I would buy it if it contained Pikmin Trilogy HD or at least Hey! Pikmin HD.
I like the new co-op mode, but I have the game on Wii U (incl. all the boring DLC missions), so no need to buy this again with so little extras.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's New Stage Minecraft World Will Feature Six Different Biomes

All Wonder Boy games on Nintendo Systems:
1. Wonder Boy (1986) Sega Master System, Wii Virtual Console
2. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (1987) Arcade, Wii VC
3. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (1987) Sega Master System, Wii VC
4. Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (1988) Sega Mega Drive, Wii VC
5. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (1989) Sega Master System, Wii VC
6. Wonder Boy in Monster World (1991) Sega Mega Drive, Wii VC
7. Monster World IV (1994) Sega Mega Drive, Wii VC
8. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (2017) Nintendo Switch
9. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (2018) Nintendo Switch
10. Wonder Boy Returns Remix (2019) Nintendo Switch
11. SEGA AGES - Wonder Boy: Monster Land (2019) Nintendo Switch

Re: "Inappropriate" Stealth Game Don’t Get Caught Won't Be Coming To Switch After All
@Zuljaras Yeah, it seems NintendoLife makes more money off this game than the devs could ever do.
Re: "Inappropriate" Stealth Game Don’t Get Caught Won't Be Coming To Switch After All
Hmm, even though the premise was silly and the gameplay was shallow, I'm disappointed in Nintendo for being cowards.
Re: After 27 Years, Amiga Shmup 1993 Shenandoah Finally Launches On Switch
Duke Nukem Forever is nothing against this.
Re: Has Nintendo's eShop Quality Control Hit A New Low With "Inappropriate" Stealth Game?
I find this not more controversial than the thousand killing games on the platform. This is harmless and silly (and self-censored), and shouldn't pop up in your eShop catalog anyway with age restrictions set up. I will recommend this to a friend just for laughs.
Re: Feature: Every Nintendo Switch Online SNES Game Ranked
Come to think how influencing Super Metroid is, to the point that it's a historical game, it's probably the biggest commercial flop ever. For a game of this caliber not even reaching the TOP 30 on the SNES sales chart is a travesty. Not nearly enough gamers have bought it despite it getting perfect scores even back in the day. With just a million games sold, this game was just way ahead of its time. If you had a SNES and haven't bought this back then, you were one of the 48 million people with bad taste in gaming.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei Is Being Added To Japan's NSO Super Famicom Collection
This would have been the perfect time to introduce the world to Shin Megami Tensei 1.
Re: Octopath Traveler To Be Represented In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next Event
Re: Psyonix Celebrates Rocket League's Fifth Anniversary With A Huge Infographic
And I'm just starting now. (Just got the Ultimate Edition)
Re: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Is Reportedly Up For Sale
Re: Square Enix Trademarks Super Famicom RPG Live A Live In Australia And Europe
English and German? That looks very much like a localised European version.
Great game, btw. One of the shorter RPGs, but maybe it felt a bit short because you play 7 vastly different characters from 7 very different times and worlds.
Re: Talking Point: What Do Abuse Scandals Say About The Smash Bros. Community, And Its Future?
This happens in almost all communities!
It's one of the reasons Nintendo stays out of it.
And where are the parents? Why are underaged people travelling across the world to play in unofficial, mismanaged, unsafe tournaments? Things like this are bound to happen.
The fault is by the parents who let their children go into unknown territory.
Re: Can You Name These Switch Games From Their Menu Icons?
19/21 I mixed up Edith Finch with Ethan Carter and V2X with 198X.
Re: Review: Infini - A Clever Spatial Puzzler That Looks Like No Other Game You've Played
For me that style is a plus. Thankfully the unique gameplay holds up as well. Definately the best of the Nakana.io games so far.
Re: Loot Boxes Are The Same As Gambling, Says The UK's House Of Lords
You can always trade a collector's card, but in a video game, you have rarely an economic option. It's limited to gambling.
Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd July (North America)
Wiz resembles a great C64 platformer I had called Magic Madness.
Re: Feature: Best Switch Demos - Try Before You Buy On Switch eShop
Vostok Inc. was a demo I liked, I found the retail version real cheap and spent 25+ hours on it.
Re: No, Seriously, The Wii And Wii U Are Getting Physical Versions Of Shakedown: Hawaii This Year
I want both, just because this guy is crazy.
I loved the Retro City Rampage NES beta version that's included in the WiiWare version.
Re: Square Enix Updates The Switch Version Of Final Fantasy VII To Version 1.0.2
Cool, I will update. I'm at the final boss.
