I played through the demo and enjoyed it. I'm not sure if I want to buy, but I'm interested in games that try something different. If a game is exciting enough I don't mind its performance that much. I didn't read all of the review (because I don't want to be spoiled) but can someone tell me, is it all just earthquakes or is there more to it? Don't wrap up the whole game - just up to chapter 2 or 3, that might win me over.
Balloons once again invaded and overtook my island, after complete silence yesterday.
My only gripe with the balloons is the sound effect they make. It's grating because it's so frequent, but at least you won't miss them. Yeah, my problem is not the spawn rate but the sound fx.
I almost got my Egg Room complete and shot a gold balloon today. Inside the present was a Recipe for the Golden slingshot!
Why is this not published by Nintendo? I mean, it's by people who made a few Zelda games and other well-known Nintendo IP's. Is Onion Games a group of former Nintendo staffers going independent?
Anyway, the Dandy Dungeon demo just released. Need to check this out, and their other games, Black Bird and MOON.
Yesterday I popped the 300th balloon as there were sometimes 3 balloons at once next to each other, and today not a single one all day. Can I not get all cherry blossom DIY recipes now?!?
I also didn't receive a notification for the cherry blossom event and didn't get a picknick item, despite playing every day.
@Crono1973 "What if the fisherman wanted to fill the catalog or maybe catch some bugs or maybe wanted to be social with the other animals? Was he locked into this role and if so, how can that be fun?"
No one was locked into a role. Every player obviously has their own fish/insects collection screens, and catalog, and house to max, and bank account to fill, etc., if they want. And more players participating in towntalk resulted in new things the NPCs would say and do. The game is better with multiple players on one island, especially your loved ones.
@Octane This game makes more money with just the Nintendo stamp on it.
As is revealed on this very comment section, people think it's made by Nintendo themselves and then want to try.
Anyway, it certainly got Nintendo's approval, otherwise they would not have published it under the Nintendo brand.
And maybe it's a Snipperclips situation where Nintendo bought the whole game/IP because they saw so much potential in it.
The presentation and extras are nice, but the number of games on this collection is disappointing. The NAMCOT catalog is huge, even when they keep limiting this to Famicom/NES games!
If you like 2K Games, then you should get the biggest microSD card possible, even if you buy physical. They never learn and won't release their huge games on anything better than an 8GB cart. First L.A. Noire, NBA 2K, WWE 2K, and now Bioshock, Borderlands, and XCOM2. It's a shame because the games are great, and they deserve the same love the Witcher III devs have for their game.
Also, since this was a Nintendo Direct Mini, what can we expect from 2K for the Maxi? GTA?
Back then we shared and that still is one of the main elements of Animal Crossing - to play in the same world with multiple players.
On Gamecube and Wii we had 4 people, 4 houses, 1 village (but only one player at a time). Now it's 8 people, 8 houses, 1 island (and four players at a time).
I'm one of the few people who likes to share the island. You get much more done that way, more options unlock, and it never gets boring. One was the fisherman bringing in the gold, one was the designer bringing color to the town, another one breeded flowers (which I personally hated so I was glad to have someone else be so compelled to it), and then there was me, the item collector, providing everyone with a full catalog of furniture, wallpapers, and music. Why is that not an option on the poll?
@rushiosan You never played anything by Sabec. Forever Entertainment has many 6/10 games, also a couple good ones, but not many really bad ones. Just try anything from Sabec and get a better perspective! They produced ten 1/10 games in a row!
At first I thought it is Wii Play 3, and I was hyped, kind of in a nostalgic way, but then I realised it's a sequel to DS game Clubhouse Games (42 Spieleklassiker) and that was the best quality board/card/casual game collection ever!
When I saw the presentation, I didn't know I wanted a sequel so much. One of the best announcements in the Nintendo Direct.
If you think 39,99 for a fantastic collection of 51 extremely polished classic games is too expensive, then I wonder what you think about the horrible, uninspired, mostly basic, glitchy, and bland indie versions of those games on the eShop. Keep in mind that you have to pay 5 to 20 bucks for every single one of them (if they're available at all, because none of the 3480 games in my eShop is a Backgammon, or Shogi, or classic Mahjong game - and these are just 3 examples).
Everyone who thinks this needs more than one island per console is either
1. An Animal Crossing Noob
"I never played AC before. I don't know about its history. I don't know that it does things much better than ever before, but God do I love to complain and sound stupid."
2. An egoist
"I don't want to share this game with other accounts on my Switch! Who allowed my family and friends to play on my console? Delete yourselves and go get your own gaming device!"
3. Or a cheater hiding behind a cheapshot mask.
"I just want more, more, more! I don't care about logic, resources, or reasons! Gimme more islands so I can get double and triple chances at winning stuff over other players that are content with just one island. I don't want to play online and play with others to get all of that. I wanna go online only after I cheated myself all fruits, materials, and rare items!"
And about the fix: Glad it's out now. What an oversight from Nintendo! With every passing hour the game's online eco-system was undermined more and more. You could make a billion (999.999.999 bells) in just a couple of hours with ease! Indeed an extremely major balancing issue.
Now we don't have just normal players online, we have uber-rich players that can buy everything in an instant, and can throw money sacks at your face, and they don't need to lift a finger for the rest of New Horizon's lifetime.
And yes, this is as much an online multiplayer game as it is a single player game! So please stop blaring your uninformed nonsense. If Nintendo didn't fix this as soon as they did, the game would be a crippled mess in just a couple more days.
I only buy physical, so I can always give a game to my friends or family in exchange for other games to check out. With physical you can play on infinite Switch consoles, give em away, or sell em, with digital you can only play on one Switch and it's glued to the system until the server's down and your memory card fails - then it turns into vaporware. However, I'm more inclined to buy physical if the whole game's on a card, so the hype over these otherwise amazing collections cooled down quite a bit. But still better than digital only.
In older Animal Crossing games there were only 4 profiles per game, 4 players who were able to live on the same island/in the same town (On Gamecube every Memory Card was one town, on DS every cartridge was one town, on Wii every console was one town). Now it's still one town per console, but you can live on it with 8 players instead of 4.
Anyway, the point is, back in 2003 I shared my town with two friends and my father. One friend eventually bought a Gamecube and his own game (he visited my town with his new character to get the items he collected), and my father was always playing when I was away. He only played 2 games in his life. Tetris and Animal Crossing. He was into the fishing part of the game. And he put the money he made from it in front of my door. This game is built for sharing, especially with close friends and family.
I love this game. There is so much to do and everything is fun. I can't wait for my house to get bigger tomorrow. I need to get the terraforming tools, I'm about to make the perfect island.
GameStop is second hand games, so perfect for spreading all kinds of stuff if not properly cleaned. And let's face it how many GameStop's actually clean the used games? I know, the first thing I do when buying second hand is cleaning the box until it looks shiny and new, and washing hands, before it goes into my collection.
Thank you Nintendo for always banning the cheaters in online games. Now I feel like getting good value out of my online membership.
It would be a shame for this masterpiece to be tainted by cheaters, especially when a) most people still wait for the release and b) Nintendo made hacks obsolete because in New Horizons you have the freedom to customize and change everything you ever wanted! And you know, Animal Crossing hackers can make your game unplayable to the point that you have to delete everything and start from scratch.
When Nintendo detects a hacked island, they should award those cheaters an hour long scolding from Mr. Resetti, a year ban for being so disrespectful (and a potential danger for the whole AC online community), and remotely delete the save file. Everyone else should get a medal from Mr. Resetti for fair play.
I'm pretty sure most events run for 1 or 2 weeks. If you don't have time to play the game during these events, game goes on anyway. At most you'll miss a set of furniture or a fancy bonus item but get another chance next time as all events repeat year after year. Also, me and others collect everything there is going to be, so you will always find someone online to trade items with you.
If I lived in China and had to choose from 3 games, I would want Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild next.
LEGO Fire Emblem sets sound like a good idea. The roundbased gameplay can be ported to a real life game 1:1.
They should include (A) interactive figurines so you can set up an army, and (B) interactive tilesets to build a custom terrain/stage.
Maybe have different sets, that include different figurines (Path of Radiance, Awakening, Three Houses) and some exclusive ground tiles for each set. And with just two sets you're ready to battle it out in 2P versus or against AI and other sets can be bought later to expand your characters and options for stage design.
I bet we'll see tons of creative stages since you can combine these with the LEGO stuff that's already out. I think it's cool how it incorporates gameplay into LEGO, and how you can create your own Mario Party style board games and little adventure games.
@THENAMESNORM Yeah, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, and DOOM 64.
Those were the 3 best first person shooters on the N64, or on any console at the time.
Though I also liked the Nintendo 64 versions of Hexen, the two Duke Nukem games, the two Quake games, the four Turok games, and Forsaken. (On that note, a shoutout to my favourite N64 third person shooters here: Jet Force Gemini and Operation: Winback)
Only Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. was mediocre, and only South Park and Daikatana were rather disappointing. Did I miss any good first person shooters on the N64?
"The rules are: NO glitches, NO Nook Codes, One Town only, time traveling permitted by advancing time no more than 1 day at a time."
"Q: Wouldn't you consider Time Traveling illegitimate?"
"A: Time traveling backwards (except for proper daylight savings time changes) is considered illegitimate in my opinion. However, time traveling forward up to one day forward at a time forces me to play the game exactly as the developers intended but at my own pace. There is no in-game advantage given to the player time traveling in the manner I established; and furthermore, the total time spent will be the same time traveling in this manner versus playing in real time."
I think in Europe a legit 100% on Gamecube Animal Crossing was almost impossible to get. Without the e-Reader + special e-Cards (not released in Europe) and a Game Boy Advance + GBA Link Cable you weren't able to get two items. I think they were NES Super Mario Bros. and NES The Legend of Zelda. You couldn't unlock them any other way, there wasn't even a Nook Code for them. And the Animal Crossing games back then had no online. You were only able to visit other towns by taking your Memory Card with your Animal Crossing save data to someone else who had the game and putting it into Memory Card Slot 2, and because of the Gamecube being region-locked, completing the PAL version is unfortunately something I never achieved.
@Zeldafan79 Undertale is a masterpiece. I played through it... thrice. And it was a completely different experience each time.
In the first 2-3 hours it plays like an 8-bit RPG with a fresh and fitting WarioWare-like minigame battle system, but that's only trying to hide the fact that something incredibly mindblowing waits underneath.
And I think the more RPGs you have played, the more you will appreciate and respect Undertale's take on the genre. So yeah, Undertale is an absolute must-have, especially for RPG fans.
@Dogorilla There's a different version of Finding Teddy II - Definitive Edition on the Wii U eShop called Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus.
I always wondered why this wasn't ported to Switch. Other Wii U metroidvanias like Elliot Quest, Axiom Verge, or Guacamelee all made the jump. Now we have the answer, they ported it to Wii U, again, under a different name, as a definitive edition.
I don't like the new design for Rockford and it's missing the Boulder Dash theme and all the iconic sound effects as well. For an anniversary title they should have gone back to the roots. But I love the gameplay and I bought the 1984 Commodore 64 original on the Wii Virtual Console for nostalgia and to finally beat it.
Boulder Dash was addicting as heck back then and it had hundreds of clones and many sequels. A true retro classic. One of the games came with a level editor - Boulder Dash Maker anyone? Spent many hours creating stages for my family. It was one of the very best games at a time when stuff like Super Mario Bros. 1 didn't exist. Emerald Mine was my favourite clone, also available on the C64.
I wish they would do a proper stylish version (bring back Rockford's old design and the original's music) with good new levels - or a compilation of the old games. But this one I'd rather skip. I've played it on mobile and it felt like a mediocre clone. And there are enough mediocre clones of this game already (and probably better ones too).
For me Nintendo is the developer of the most mature and well-designed games.
Once you grow up you see through the weak storylines and repetitive gameplay of your so-called gritty mature action games and hopefully realise that you were the kid all the time.
Select your pics of the day more carefully, Sakurai.
It's fine to use a dev version to take screenshots with more ease, but showing unused content stirs up a lot of talk, especially when the game is out for more than a year and many are still picking up every last crumb of new information about updates and DLC.
Now we have a couple frankly disappointed people, however, Sakurai quickly responded and explained the situation to not break anymore hearts. ^^
And it unearthed lots of demand for stage pack DLC - and on that note my favourites are Orbital Gate (that awesome-looking Starfox stage from SSB4), and a "Best of" Miiverse stage.
@BulbasaurusRex Cross has an official default appearance, so the easiest way to add him would be putting this guy in with 8 different shirt colors.
But Sakurai would probably add female default Cross as the second alt and the remaining 6 alts will be the coolest looking complete armor sets. And Xenoblade X featured tons of iconic alien armor that looked great on your characters. (I can imagine a Monster Hunter fighter being approached similarly.) They'd be like the Animal Crossing Villager with just more variety for Sakurai to choose from for their 8 appearances.
@JR150 Yeah, Cross - the main character from Xenoblade Chronicles X, would still be eligible as he/she has no spirit, AT, or costume - unlike Rex & Pyra (or Elma unfortunately) - and it would be amazing!!!
I'm biased though, because I love Xeno X so much. It's my favourite RPG of the decade (2010-2019).
I just want more videogame legacy characters from Square Enix in Smash. As you can guess I never liked Kingdom Hearts. Now that Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are in Smash, next ones should be Chrono Trigger, Mana series, Quintet trilogy, and TAITO (Bubble Bobble) representation, actual big Nintendo classics, before we move on to the crossover newage Disney Playstation kids stuff. I'd even put Lara Croft before Sora, but she's a Brawlhalla fighter now. And if all of the aforementioned ones are released, I would still rather have Geno and other SE characters instead of Sora. Square Enix has too many great original games on their hands, and Kingdom Hearts is only so popular because of the Disney characters. Sora is just an empty shell without Disney IP support.
And Dante seems like a worse version of Bayonetta. Sakurai should rather add Capcom icons like Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright (a shame Resident Evil is deconfirmed). I really wasn't impressed by Byleth's reveal, but I was happy it wasn't Dante.
@jerichofr No, you basically build a city on a tropical island with room for up to 8 players and many different NPCs you can befriend. And you can customize everything and collect thousands of things to use and display and share. It runs in realtime so it features a real day/night and calendar system as well as special events.
If you don't want to build a city you can now build a swamp or something else.
A relaxing game is for me the opposite of a frustrating game and I always find all the Xenoblade Chronicles games extremely relaxing, as when you faint you lose nothing at all, just be sent back to the last checkpoint almost instantly.
Little Inferno is wellmade and chill. No dangers, no timers. Fun story, unique gameplay, tons of stuff to burn, 100 hot puzzles, beautiful ending.
Thimbleweed Park I like games that create an eerie atmosphere but are a relatively safe place. You can die only in one very obvious situation, so make sure you (manually) save before this obvious situation. Other than that, the game is kind to you. It even provides a hotline for each of its puzzles so you can't even get stuck. I recommend to playing the hard mode, as the easy mode skips puzzles and dialogues (trust me, it's still pretty easy).
@Megz3 Yes, as unbelieveable as it sounds. Some of us never got Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Personally, I waited for a Wii U version that never happened, even though we got these on Wii U:
; 1. Animal Crossing: Plaza,
; 2. Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival + tons of amiibo,
; 3. Animal Crossing: Wild World (Virtual Console),
; 4. Animal Crossing: Sweet Day (Nintendo Land),
; 5. Animal Crossing Villager joins Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
; 6. Animal Crossing Villager joins Mario Kart 8.
Feels weird to have so many new Animal Crossing related things on the Wii U but not a new main game.
So, yeah, the last Animal Crossing game I played was Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City on Wii from 2009-2010. I waited 10 years for the next big screen title! We don't just get the new stuff from the Switch version but the 3DS stuff will also be brandnew for us. ^^
Look at all these references! Revenge of the Gator, Adventures of Lolo, BOXBOY + BOXGIRL, Marx and Magolor, even Ness made the cut! <3 (though I always check for Adeleine).
What a great company! I wish they'd release a collection of their greatest hits and old forgotten classics, and MOTHER 1+2+3 in the west, but since it's their birthday it's their time for a wish.
Did Escargoon ever appear in an actual Kirby game? I haven't played every single Kirby game, so I always wondered if he and the two kids were ever featured outside of the Kirby: Right Back At Ya! tv show. I enjoyed the series, I watched it when it was released as the free download streaming app Kirby TV Channel for Wii.

Re: Westwood's Classic Blade Runner Is Getting An Enhanced Edition On Switch
Hey what, where is System Shock?
Re: LEGO Super Mario Officially Unveiled, Features Interactive Mario And Fan-Favourite Characters
I bet we'll see tons of creative stages since you can combine these with the LEGO stuff that's already out. I think it's cool how it incorporates gameplay into LEGO, and how you can create your own Mario Party style board games and little adventure games.
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Pocket Camp Crossover Event Is Now Live
I'm glad it's just bonuses vor Pocket Camp and not the other way around.
Re: Hell Yes! Doom 64's Re-Release Includes An Entirely New Chapter
Re: The First Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review Is In, And It Might Surprise You
If New Leaf was a 39/40 why is New Horizons not a 40/40?
New Horizons seems to be a much better game.
Re: Random: It's OK, We Didn't Know There Was An Animal Crossing Movie Either
I know the movie, but didn't know KK music covers were a thing.

Re: Random: Meet The World's First Legitimate "Bellionaire" In Animal Crossing
@Anti-Matter Here are the rules for this speedrun:
https://pastebin.com/6UYDNJCs
Re: Random: Meet The World's First Legitimate "Bellionaire" In Animal Crossing
Re: New Documentary Uncovers The Amazing Story Of EarthBound Beginnings
@Zeldafan79 Undertale is a masterpiece. I played through it... thrice. And it was a completely different experience each time.
In the first 2-3 hours it plays like an 8-bit RPG with a fresh and fitting WarioWare-like minigame battle system, but that's only trying to hide the fact that something incredibly mindblowing waits underneath.
And I think the more RPGs you have played, the more you will appreciate and respect Undertale's take on the genre. So yeah, Undertale is an absolute must-have, especially for RPG fans.
Re: Random: The Wii U Is Getting Two New Physical Releases This Year
@Dogorilla There's a different version of Finding Teddy II - Definitive Edition on the Wii U eShop called Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus.
I always wondered why this wasn't ported to Switch. Other Wii U metroidvanias like Elliot Quest, Axiom Verge, or Guacamelee all made the jump. Now we have the answer, they ported it to Wii U, again, under a different name, as a definitive edition.
Re: Space Robot Puzzler Factotum 90 Crash Lands On Switch Later This Month
Why 90? I guess it's nothing like Paradroid 90, is it? ...apart from being a robot on a spaceship.
Re: Review: Boulder Dash 30th Anniversary - An Awkwardly-Ported Tribute That's For Fans Only
I don't like the new design for Rockford and it's missing the Boulder Dash theme and all the iconic sound effects as well.
Re: Nintendo Has Worked To Escape Its 'Childish' Reputation, Says Miyamoto
For me Nintendo is the developer of the most mature and well-designed games.
Once you grow up you see through the weak storylines and repetitive gameplay of your so-called gritty mature action games and hopefully realise that you were the kid all the time.
Re: No, The Wii U Version Of Battlefield Isn't Being Added To Smash Bros. Ultimate
Re: Sora Named "Most Wanted" Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter In Recent Japanese Poll
Re: Sora Named "Most Wanted" Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter In Recent Japanese Poll
@JR150 AT means assist trophy.
Re: Sora Named "Most Wanted" Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter In Recent Japanese Poll
Re: Sora Named "Most Wanted" Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter In Recent Japanese Poll

Re: Sora Named "Most Wanted" Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter In Recent Japanese Poll
Re: Random: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Booth At PAX East Reduces Discord Community Manager To Tears
Re: Feature: The Most Relaxing Switch Games - Chill Games For Nintendo Switch
Re: Video: Nintendo Releases Two New Commercials For Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Re: HAL Laboratory Celebrates 40th Anniversary With New Website And Artwork
40 Years! Happy Birthday!
Re: Super Rare Games Announces Seven New Physical Releases For Nintendo Switch
No price? I'd pick up The Sexy Brutale and Darkwood.
