The former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has always said he was a fan of the company and while we've heard many stories in the past about the time he spent with Mario and the other Nintendo mascots in his younger years, we don't ever recall him mentioning the sheer amount of games he actually owned on one particular system.
In the same red carpet interview at the Game Awards with The Hollywood Reporter, Reggie was asked about his early experiences with Nintendo. His first system was the Super Nintendo and it turns out he had "over 80 games" for it, which helped him understand and connect with fans when he joined the company in 2003 as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
I had over 80 games on that system, and I think that helped me with the fans and the company, because I knew the content so well. … For me it's been a part of my growing up. I was with Nintendo of America for 15 years.
He added to this by reflecting on his playtime with a few of the system's major releases:
so I played Super Mario World — and ended the game with 99 lives — and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Even more serious Nintendo fans should be impressed with a library of 80 SNES games. We wonder what other gems he had in his collection.
If all this talk has got you in the mood for some Super Nintendo gaming, you can always try out the 24 games currently available on the Switch Online SNES service. It might not be as big as Reggie's collection, but you can at least experience some of the games he did in his earlier years, including Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Are you impressed Reggie had 80 SNES titles? How many do you own? Leave a comment below.

Readying his body from day one
That's impressive. No idea how many I had back in the day with trade-ins, etc., but I had one of those shelving gaming rack things and it was always full. Might have fit 30 to 40 at a time
That's a huge collection for any but the most rabid fan. I'd guess I had about 40 games for Super Nintendo altogether. Most games for any console I owned until Switch. Over 100 on there. Hundreds if you count the classic game collections on it.
That's pretty baller of Reggie, considering he'd have been in his thirties, building that library. Perhaps he was playing with his kids and just succumbed to the magic?
I probably only have that many physical games for the Wii, MasterSystem, and Commodore 64.
Though I am aware of at least 80 games on teh SNES worth owning. ^^
99 lives on SMW? No worries, star world level 2 with the blue Yosh
I’ve still got mine so let’s count em... 15!
I rented plenty from Azad Videos too obvs.
My SNES collection (as a kid in the 90’s):
Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Yoshi’s Island, Mario All-Stars, Mario Paint, Mario RPG, DKC, DKC 2, DKC 3, Mickey Mouse Magical Quest, Mickey Mouse Circus Mystery, Lion King, Aladdin
I rented plenty of others. I miss those Disney games. My parents spent a lot of money on these, looking back on it.
I’m struggling to remember even owning more than 5 SNES games and this was between 3 of us. More often than not we rented games growing up.
We owned a lot more PlayStation games but that was between 4 of us at that point.
Nice. I had maybe 20 or little more.
Clearly missed out on EarthBound or his priority as a president would have been localizing MOTHER 3.
At my last count, and given my collection dates back to 1992, I have 104 SNES/SFC games in my collection. And an awful lot of them are Very Good Indeed™
Out to Lunch and Big Sky Trooper was all I had.
hmmm
Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Mario Paint, Super Punch Out, Madden 95, 96, NBA Live 96, 97, 98, Mortal Kombat 2, NBA Jam TE, Ken Griffey Jr MLB, Link to the Past, Shaq Fu, MJ Chaos in Windy City (my dad liquidated a video store and I ended up with a bunch of games that aren't all that good) Ballz, Double Dragon V, Beavis and Butthead, Chrono Trigger, NBA Showdown, NFL QB Club 96, Super Play Action Football
yeah my collection was pretty bad.
Life long Nintendo fan owning every system and I don’t think I had 15 games. But I was in middle school as well. My parents hate video games to this day and don’t like that I play them with my kids.
Are they all complete or some of them cartridge only?
Can't remember what games we actually owned as we mainly rented them. But, I believe we may have owned Mario World, Mario All-Stars, Mario Kart, all three Super Star Wars games, Killer Instinct, Secret of Mana, Link to the Past, Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid and maybe Earthworm Jim (could have been Sega MD that one). Some of them may have just been rented a lot, but they were the titles I remembered playing often.
Look at Reggie bragging like a YouTuber
My nes collection was probably close to 40 if I go and count them out. At least thats how I remember it. But 80 is quite a bit. Good for him.
I had 8 SNES games.
everything about Reggie is bigger than average
My sisters and I didn’t even have the SNES, so I played SMW on my GBA.
I’m making up for lost time with the Switch, Wii U, and SNES Classic.
He definitely had more games than I ever owned for the system.
If I recall correctly, and I probably don't, I had something like:
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario All-Stars
F-Zero
Super R-Type
Street Fighter II
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Mario Kart
Super Smash TV
Super Aleste
Super Tennis
UN Squadron
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts
Killer Instinct
Super Punch-Out!!
Donkey Kong Country
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Actraiser
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Castlevania IV
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Star Fox
Mortal Kombat 2
I'm sure I must have played more than 80 SNES games now though, be it via the Wii Virtual Console or ROMs or whatever.
The games I remember owning, and most of these I still have although some have left my collection: Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Kirby Super Star, Super Metroid, Pilot Wings, Super Mario Kart, DKC, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Battletoads and Double Dragon, Bubsy, Final Fantasy 6, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Super Black Bass Fishing, Contra, Super Star Wars, Spiderman Arcades Revenge, Harvest Moon, Starfox, Stunt Race FX, Wizardry (VI I think can't remember), Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and Breath of Fire II.
I think that's it. Looks like I owned around 27 if I remembered correctly. Of course I played more through renting and borrowing.
Edit: I forgot about Final Fantasy:Mystic Quest. How could I forget.
I'm a pretty avid game collector, and I currently have around 70 SNES cartridges. I'm impressed!
The only system I have that many games for is the switch. So many games on that system
I bought and sold SNES games a lot from 2005 to 2012. I probably owned 40 at one time and over the course of time, purchased 50 to 60 different games.
The most I owned for any console was 140 games for PS2. I currently own 120 which filled up my 120 disc case.
My SNES collection consisted of: 1) Sim City 2) Pilotwings 3) Super Mario World 4) Super Mario World/Super Mario All-Stars 5) Star Fox 6) Street Fighter II: The World Warrior 7) Street Fighter II Turbo 8) Super Street Fighter II 9) Street Combat 10) Ranma 1/2 11) Power Moves 12: Stunt Race FX 13) Vortex 14) Dirt Trax FX 15) Kirby Superstar 16) F-Zero 17) The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past 18) Street Fighter Alpha 2 19) WWF Super WrestleMania 20) WWF Royal Rumble 21) WWF Raw 22) WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game 23) WCW 24) NBA Live 95 25) NBA Live 96 26) Chrono Trigger 27) Final Fantasy II 28) Final Fantasy III 29) Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest 30) Contra III: The Alien Wars 31) Super CastleVania IV 32) Killer Instinct 33) TMNT IV: Turtles in Time 34) TMNT Tournament Fighters 35) NBA Jam 36) NBA Jam T.E. 37) NBA Hangtime 38) College Slam 39) NFL 40) Tecmo NBA Basketball 41) High Impact Football 42) John Madden Football 43) John Madden Football '93 44) Madden '94 45) Madden '95 46) Madden '96 47) Madden '97 48) Madden '98 49) Paperboy 2 50) California Games 2 51) Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition 52) Mortal Kombat 53) Mortal Kombat II 54) Breath of Fire 55) Populous II 56) Gradius III 57) Earth Defense Force 58) Pebble Beach Golf Links 59) Xardion 60) Waiailae Country Club 61) Terminator 2: The Arcade Game 62) Final Fight 63) Final Fight 2 64) Super Star Wars 65) Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 66) Super Caesar's Palace 67) Donkey Kong Country 68) Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest 69) Donkey Kong Country 3 70) Super R-Type 71) Super Pinball: Behind The Mask 72) Super Off Road 73) Super Offroad: The Baja 74) Batman Returns 75: The Lawnmower Man 76) Saturday Night Slammasters 77) Prince of Persia 78) Ms. Pac-Man 79) Mario Paint 80) Family Fued 81) Wheel of Fortune 82) Captain America & The Avengers Take THAT Reggie!
I rotated through around 30 SNES carts (my buddy worked in a game store and let me swap them over). I also had just under 800 SNES games by less reputable means.
@Kriven since you asked, I owned:
Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario RPG, F-Zero, Super Punchout, Kirby Superstar, Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II, Rise of the Robots, Wolverine Adamantium Rage, Spiderman, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, TMNTIV Turtles in Time, Gradius III, Carrier Aces, Revolution X, Tin Star, Judge Dredd, Pool, Super Baseball Simulator 1,000, NBA Jam, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, EVO Search for Eden, Sim City, Incredible Crash Dummies, Space Invaders, Atari's Greatest Hits, Strike Gunner STG, Zombies ate my Neighbors, Megaman X, Megaman X2, andMickey's Magical Quest. I also borrowed or played most of the other big/common SNES games at friends houses.
80 is a nice amount. I tended to have 20-40 on different systems. I wonder if he focused more on the SNES or just a few systems. Some people would stick with one system longer, even after new machines came out. I tended to branch out and get multiple systems over time, so maybe if I was a bit more focused on one machine, I'd have had close to that number for one system.
When I finally sold all my games in Loot magazine in the UK I had 15 games (Sold the system with 15 games, and action replay cart for £150 in about 1996) Here is what i had when I sold it, I was a big import collector :

I was a gaming journalist in the 90s so I had over 100 games. 124 to be exact. The SNES is still my favorite game system.
I got myself F zero in September 92 ans waited 'til Christmas to receive my Snes Alone ZeldaAlttP...awesome times. Hot myself Castlevania 4 and Mario Kart the following year. Still Keeping up the hunt.
Put this way since his start he probably got a product of each release from Nintendo including each Different Switch and Lite model. Lucky for him....
@vitalemrecords i loved beavis and butthead game. It was really hard to finish as i remember.
He's got me beat.
I wonder if he bought the bulk of them after the N64 came out. SNES games weren't cheap.
I had, and still have, about 50. That excludes about 10 Japanese versions during visits to Japan. I can't remember them all, suffice to say I got most of the "Super" games like Castlevania 4, Ghouls & Ghosts, Tennis and Metroid. Not to forget other early titles like SF2, F-Zero, Mario Kart, UN Squadron (Area 51), Axelay, Contra, TMNT4 and Top Gear. When I my sister went to USA, I got her to bring back a USA SNES with Top Gear 2. Eventually I'd get Top Gear 3000. Loved that series. Others I can remember are SF2 Turbo, SSF2, Star Fox, ISS and ISS Deluxe, Aliens 3, Striker, World Cup Striker, FIFA, Kick Off 3, NHL 96, Yoshi's Island, International Cricket, Jurassic Park, Bomberman 3, Smash Tennis (with multi-tap), Batman (the later one), Super Star Wars (all 3), Bubsy, Nigel Mansell's Indy Car, Killer Instinct and Donkey Kong Country. Even better, I completed just about all of them! Unlike most games today.
Well, he definitely had a larger collection than me. I never owned a SNES. I was a Sega Genesis kid so I only got to play one at my aunt's house.
80 games for any system is impressive. Most I jave is like 34 for N64. Runner up is GC with like 26, and PS4 with 20 (impresive for not even having it for a year, thanks Sony for cheap games).
What's up with that quote though? He mentions A Link to the Past without saying anything.
I’m pretty sure I had at least that many. The SNES was the first system I had. I was just out of my teens when Donkey Kong first hit arcades and spent plenty of time at Pac-Man, Popeye, and Qbert units, and even though I was aware of the NES I didn’t have the budget for it at the time. I got the SNES in late 93 when there was already a big backlog of titles and wound up piling up plenty of used and sale bin titles. So my collection includes plenty of things like James Pond and Rocky Rodent, yet almost no sports titles.
I’ve gotten every major system since then. All in all, I’d say the quantity of titles for each system has decreased incrementally until the Wii U and Switch, so I’m sure my SNES library is the largest. They’ve been packed up in a closet for years, but I still have them all.
I had some good ones. I constantly returned to the Tetris & Dr. Mario combo cart (and Tetris Attacks).
Now my collection consists of a SNES Mini and Nintendo Switch Online.
I have 90 now, 76 of them are Super Famicom games. But I'm still collecting
I had about 15 when I moved onto N64, now I have a bout 40 SNES games, one of which was worth about 300 but I sold it in 2017 to get a Switch.
@Kriven I’m a 1991 kid too, and we had Megaman X as well, Super Star Wars, Super Return of the Jedi, one weird flying simulator game, Darius Twin, Goal, Star Fox, Street Fighter II, and X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse. The aspect of collecting was not important for us either, since we sold our Super Nintendo and some games to get a Nintendo 64
Some fantastic collections on here, which have through reading has brought back a lot of excellent memories. If I remember correctly I had the following
1) super Mario world 2) f zero 3) street fighter 2 WW 4) SF2 turbo 5) super SF2 6) fatal fury special 7) Mortal Kombat 2 8) nba jam 9) fifa 10) John madden football 11) Mario all stars 12) super ghouls and ghosts 13) super smash tv 14) super bomber man 15) smash tennis 16) INternational superstar soccer 17) prince of Persia 18) flashback 19) Zelda 20) PLOK 21) equinox 22) Axelay 23) pilotwings 24) shadowrun 25) secret of mana 26) rock n roll racing 27) super Mario kart 28) star wing 29) stunt race fx 30) vortex
My first console - I clearly remember running home from the store with the street fighter pack in firmly gripped under my arm. These days re physical collecting I focus on quality vs quantity.
My gamecube collection is my biggest, and I'd say I only got about 40 on that!
Well, my respect for Reggie just climbed higher.
