It has been a while since we heard from Konami's Goemon series. In fact, the last proper game he starred in dates back to 2005 during the Nintendo DS generation. Since then, the mystical ninja has resurfaced here and there, and most recently showed up in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as Mii Fighter costume in September.
Now, according to Japanese Nintendo, Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd, has applied for a new trademark within Japan for Goemon. The purposes of this trademark include "game program" and "game software".
As with any trademark, this could simply be Konami wanting to protect its intellectual property or it could mean something else. While there have been no new games for Goemon in recent times, Hamster did add the original Mr. Goemon game to the Switch 'Arcade Archives' series last month.

So I guess we’ll be getting an announcement about a Goemon pachinko machine soon. 😉
I would love a Goemon collection on Switch, with Goemon 2, 3 and 4 finally translated and made available in one nice package!
@cheetahman91
Yeah cause Konami forgot how to make games.
Next thing you know they wil dredge up Silent Hills
I’d like to see the old games on Switch. But if it is a new Mystical Ninja game, ummm it’s going to be great. What can possibly go wrong?🙃
@MikeW now that would be sweet, especially since it would be a better deal than konami making a new game and it turns out to be mediocre at best. Plus they could make it like the anniversary collections they did for Gradius, Contra, and Castlevania.😃
Konami forgot their Hyper Sports R for Nintendo Switch since has been announced on June 2018.
I use my special technique doubt to lower this news hype effectiveness!
Goemon's Great Adventure was such a fun game! Gimme another one of those!
Konami should port Metal Gear Solid V to Switch. If Kojima is still working there, we would have it already. Maybe MGS 4 as well, MSG 3 was already ported to 3DS so maybe it can be bundled together like Assassin Creeds games.
@KitsuneNight
Silent Hills Pachinko too? =D
@Severian
I think Konami has forgotten a lot of their franchises. Well, except Contra. But after what happened with that new Contra game I kinda wish they did.
@Anti-Matter What the heck?! That's right! Where is that game?
Eh, I love Mystical Ninja on N64 but I'll try not to get my hopes up. Maybe I'll track down Goemon's Great Adventure.
Konami needs to bring back Goemon, Rocket Knight, Silent Hill, Suikoden, and Vandal Hearts.
Yeah sure Konami, I learned long ago not to listen to anything you say...
I remember loving Goemon 64, although my family didn't have one of those save pack things, so we had to restart every time we turned on the game.
@cheetahman91 A pachinko game would be great. A mobile Goemon game would almost be as good, though. Not quite as good as the new Castlevania mobile title, though.
Please port over Gradius V when you’re at it.
@MikeW That'd be fantastic, but we barely got Seiken Densetsu 3 with the Mana Collection unfortunately
Translating old Japanese games we never got was my hope since the Wii's VC launched and we got Monster World IV and Seiken Densetsu 3 since then ... and that's it D=
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon was a game I wish had hit the Virtual Console back in the day. All the same, I think I would look forward to a new entry in the series.
@cool_boy_mew
There is a Seiken 3 remake coming next year
Trials of Mana.
I preordered it and i am dreading this decision ^^
@NoTinderLife the would never make a MGS collection for switch. Konami dont like earning money 🙄
@MikeW I'd love to get the Goemon Snes, N64 and Ps1 games, even the japanese ones, translated or not. It's such a great coop series.
The one on N64 was so epic!
A new Goemon game might be nice, but first I'd rather have the four Super Famicom games localized and fully translated. I guess a straight port of the SNES game Legend of the Mystical Ninja game would do as long as Goemon and Ebisumaru aren't called Kid Ying and Dr Yang in the other three.
I would love a new Goemon game, or a collection of the old games we haven’t gotten outside of Japan before. Ideally it would be a new game, something like Goemon: Breath of the Ebisumaru
@TrevorMcD I'll let you borrow mine if you sign a legally binding contract to give it back after two years.
@chiefeagle02 I absolutely adored everything about that game. It was like a mix of Zelda and Mario with charming Japanese weirdness all over it.
I totally agree with the comment that has the number #16 .
Hey, Bomberman R was actually pretty good. It's a nice game. I like having the Master Chief Bomber on Xbox. And I still say, the new Contra isn't that bad. It's biggest issue is the high difficulty level
Love to see the old games re-mastered, but if they did anything, I suspect Japan will get some goofy mobile gotcha app.
Ha! Konami making games? Don’t think so.
@Anti-Matter What I really want to see is Rocket Knight in the style of the first Genesis game (the second one did not really look as good as the first and the remake was not my cup of tea).
I loved Goemon on Nintendo 64. The first one that was 3D open world. What a music!!!
The Goemon series was one of the best on Snes! I hope they make a collection or put Mystical Ninja on NSO. A new 2d game would be also welcomed!
They should port over or remake that nes rpg. Great graphics for the time honestly.
I'd jump on a Goemon collection for Switch. Never played a single game on the series, but I've been hearing how great it is for decades.
Also, where's my second Castlevania collection?
It's gonna be a cool pachinko machine that's for sure.
Yes please Konami !
My favourite N64 games. I don't think they could be released on virtual console due to size restrictions at the time. There is a huge fantastic soundtrack with these games.
HD remastered welcome or new I don't mind.
@Severian @KitsuneNight
I don't want to alarm you, but...

@cheetahman91
Oh, and a Goemon Pachislot has existed for many, many years.

Here's a good gaming related joke for you:
Konami.
Too bad this kind of thing usually doesn't mean anything. I'm the biggest Goemon fan I know (as I own every game in the series, and finished all of them except for the terrible Game Boy game we got, the PS2 game because I don't have a Japanese PS2, and the arcade game Mr. Goemon because I only got it like two days ago, but I definitely want to finish that one), so I would be overjoyed with anything.
Even just a collection. I've had some ideas what a realistic Castlevania/Contra style collection for the Switch would look like (and it sadly doesn't include the fan-favorite N64 game). A remaster would probably be even better, but obviously, a new game would be the best... I guess. I don't know if Konami could make a new Goemon game nowadays. Honestly, the best people to handle the new game would probably be Good Feel of all people (makers of such games as Kirby's Epic Yarn and the recent Yoshi games). as it's a company founded by the main people behind the old Goemon games. It's no wonder the last true game in the series came out in 2005, that's when they left Konami and created Good Feel.
Anyway, him being in Smash as a playable character would be amazing. Not as a Mii costume (although I'm grateful for even that), but as an actual fighter with his own stage and music.
@cheetahman91 Well, we already have two of those, sadly. They do have great soundtracks, though.
@KingBowser86 If you enjoyed that, I have some great news: it's the most used formula for Goemon games. You could either try Ganbare Goemon 2 or Dancer ni Natta Wake for the SNES, Hoshizorashi Dynamites Arawaru for the Game Boy Color, Ooedo Daikaiten or Shin Sedai Shuumei for the PS1, or New Age Shutsudou for the GBA (although that's easily the weakest one), as they all play quite similarly, and can be played through without knowledge of Japanese for the most part, you might only need some walkthroughs for the town sections. Out of these, probably Goemon 2 and Ooedo Daikaiten are the best ones, but almost all are great.
@chiefeagle02 Well, we did get Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the VC... The horrible Game Boy game for the 3DS Virtual Console, one of THREE games with that exact English title, and also quite easily the worst game of the entire series, sadly. Too bad they decided to pick that one for localization back in the day, when even the other Game Boy Goemon game, released like 6 years before was much superior in pretty much every way. I mean only 6 Goemon games made it overseas in any shape out of something like 30 titles, why does the worst entry have to be one of them?
@Nic-Noc20th-C I don't think it was because of size restrictions, it was probably because for some reason, Nintendo only decided to release 1st (and 2nd) party N64 titles on the Virtual Console.
Please be a new game! Mystical Ninja 64 was so awesome! To this day i still have that Plasma man song stuck in my brain!
The snes one was cool too! I rented it on a whim as a kid and thought what the heck am i playing? It was weird but awesome at the same time and i just couldn't stop playing it!
It has forgot about Dance Dance Revolution though and considering that teen girls are losing interest in gaming I find that weird they haven't revived it, especially since the Nintendo Switch seems like the perfect demographic for that.
I would have swapped Simon and Snake for Goemon in Smash. (Richter is cool though.)
Yeah, I think Castlevania and Metal Gear are not that fun, but Goemon is one of Konami's best! (And Bomberman)
@KingBowser86 Goemon's Greatest Adventure is up there in my top 10 games on the N64.
@cool_boy_mew Don't forget Romancing Saga 3.
@BubbleMatrix82
OH, those games still exist in Japans Arcades. There is a much advanced version out there. But this is impossible to port over to the home console
I don't expect (or trust) Konami to make a new game in the series but a proper collection would be amazing. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64 is among most beloved games from my childhood and I'd love to have a way to play in on a modern console.
Please Hylia, PLEASE!
@NotoriousWhiz I might be mistaken, but isn't it a port/remake/enhanced port? Which would make it much more likely to get localized
With Seiken Densetsu 3 and Monster World IV, they're actually the original ROM. SK3 was confirmed to work on a real Snes too. That's the difference
They better just shut up and give me an English language collection of all the SNES games right now.
I miss this series so much
@RupeeClock
Gee huge surprise.
Konami is engaging on a long slow suicide march isn't it ?
Only ever played the N64 goemon but absolutely loved it back in the day!
konami should remake silent hill 1 for the switch or enhance it.
Sans for grandpas.
@X68000 Or preferably, a Gradius Collection similar to the Castlevania and Contra ones.
Since the 1st 2 games (and Salamander) are already in the Arcade collection, it could be :
-Gradius 3 Arcade
-Gradius 4
-Gradius V
-Gradius Gaiden
-Gradius Galaxies
-Nemesis 90 Kai
-Solar Assault
-Salamander 2
But mostly, Nemesis 90 Kai really needs an easily accessible re-release.
Goemon was over when Ebisumaru left Konami for Good Feel
Da dash dash! Please revive this series. It's just one of those games. Too silly to be serious, too outlandish to not be fun. Awesome soundtracks I still hum today.
Man did i love that game "PLAAASSSMAAAA"
hahah
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon HD on the Switch please!!!!
So Konami is a Game Company again?
I don't know who he is. I've only encountered him in Konami Crazy Racers.
@Nintendo4Sonic A sequel to DDR Mario Mix is all we need though, kpop and jpop songs can even be included
I was just thinking about this game so decided to google it and i just remember how bright it made my childhood if it ever comes back im getting a nintendo again just for this game it was the first game i could call fun it will always be video game history for me
