NIS America has revealed that La-Mulana 1 & 2 will be available on Nintendo Switch and other platforms in March 2020, with a 17th March release date planned for North America, and 20th March scheduled in for Europe.
We'll leave official descriptions for both titles for anyone not in the loop just below, but before we get on to that, take a quick look at this glorious-looking 'Hidden Treasures Edition'. This physical release comes with a copy of the game, an artbook, a two-disc soundtrack, a collector's box, and even a jigsaw puzzle. You don't see that very often.
And here are those descriptions we promised...
About LA-MULANA 1: Your destiny awaits in La-Mulana! Take control of archaeologist Lemeza Kosugi and navigate through puzzles, traps, and deadly Guardians in order to claim the Secret Treasure of Life. You'll need sharp wits, quick reflexes, and most importantly, all the courage you can muster. Will you succeed in unraveling the secrets of La-Mulana, or will you fall victim to the dangers that surround you?
About LA-MULANA 2: Renowned archaeologist Lemeza Kosugi has gone missing, and only his daughter Lumisa can find him! Enter Eg-Lana, an upside-down version of the legendary ruins of La-Mulana. Think fast, act fast, and whip hard in order to overcome dangerous traps and elaborate puzzles in your quest to uncover unfathomable secrets. What will you find at the end of your journey: triumph, or defeat?
Key Features:
- It Belongs in a Museum!: Two critically acclaimed, devilishly twisted puzzle platformers arrive on modern platforms and are worth their weight in gold.
-You Call This Archaeology?: With your trusty whip in one hand and an arsenal of guns, shuriken, and other Sub-Weapons in the other, you'll be able to take on dangerous foes while maneuvering through the nefarious traps of the ruins. Use items like the Ankh to call upon and challenge the ancient Guardians in order to advance.
- Fortune and Glory, Kid: Solve the cryptic puzzles of Eg-Lana using ancient relics such as tablets and keys, and even modern tools like Yagoo software and the Glyph Reader. And when all else fails, push around or smash objects to crack the mysteries wide open!

I'm okay with just the standard edition thanks, but nonetheless I'm quite excited for this release, I very much enjoyed my time with La-Mulana on steam even if it made me want to tear my hair out at times, that soundtrack was just so good that I didn't even mind replaying sections.
I've heard nothing of the second game but I'm hoping it'll be just as good as the first one.
When I think back to my playthrough of La Mulana, all I can remember is pain, confusion, and unending hopelessness.
I’ll be sure to get the sequel.
Mmm, to buy this or not? It's not about the games (which are fantastic), it's whether I have the time to invest in these sorts of games again.
Seeing my profile picture, You guess why I'm here...
Hourraaah !!!!! Finally !
Super tough games, don't really care for the box art. Can't play the Wii version for toffee, i will probably buy it.
@Dr_Corndog Super tough games, lots of time required.
VERY few 'special editions' interest me. I have to REALLY be a fan of the game. Skyward Sword, SM3DW, Undertale the only in recent memory. I can definitely add this to my list. La-Mulana is a masterpiece and it's sequel looking very, very worthy.
One of the few master developers of openworld metroidvanias call their games just puzzle platformers?? If this description was true, then Hollow Knight would be nothing more than just a basic beat'em up and Axiom Verge would be nothing more than just a linear run&gun.
I've always wanted to try these out! They remind me of Montezuma's Revenge which I used to play a lot on the Apple II and I've been hoping these would get a localized edition on Switch...don't really care about the puzzle, NIS have definitely had better-looking releases, but it's definitely on my watch list.
I have never been so utterly and soundly defeated by a game than by this one. There's no expressing how frustrating, bewildering, and impenetrable it is. Left me feeling dismayed and defeated, seriously. But I will be going back to those ruins.
@DockEllisD I did that as well now I have Japan and Multi-language.
I am soooooooooo stoked. I've been wanting to replay #1 and I can't wait to play #2. The game is evil hard but totally worth it.
@nimnio I just dislike the pallette and style overall, 80% of NEbox art is awesome. This box art looks afr too serious for the tone of the game and the in-game art style. They have used this because they've used similar to introduce the characters in the second game. This looks more RPG than action platformer.
@DockEllisD I ordered the Japanese physical copy thinking it might be the only one that would get made (even after you reported on a previous thread that it wouldn't have English...). Of course this release was announced right after I received my order from Japan, haha. Definitely getting this sweet localized edition. L-M1 may well be my favorite game
Have the first one on WiiWare, need to play it so I can get wound up and frustrated.
The first one...so Hard!?!!
