Wow. Pokémon Sword And Shield sure has annoyed a lot of fans – and it's not even out yet.
We've covered the numerous complaints about the game already, but – as our Pokémon Sword And Shield review clearly states – this is a solid start to Generation 8 on Switch.
Still, there's no pleasing some people, and we're now seeing disgruntled individuals appealing to the President of the United States himself (thanks, Daniel Ahmad) to stop sales of the game to avoid "violating" the rights of "American Citizens".
Here's the full appeal to President Trump:
We, the people of the United States of America strive for quality goods and entertainment. We, the People of the United States want what is best for our children. We, the people of the United States want what is best in our stores.
President Trump and Congress, the newest Pokemon games by Game Freak and Nintendo are negatively impacting the market with questionable decisions. We believe if the sales of the games were to stop, it will wake up Game Freak and we'll get quality back. This will set a bad standard in the markets if these were to get sold. We, as both Pokemon fans but more importantly, American Citizens believe this is violating our Market rights and need something done about this.
The petition to the White House needs 99,807 signatures by December 12th for it to get a response – it currently has 193.
Do you think this is a real petition, or has it been taken out purely to poke fun at those attacking the game? Let us know with a comment.

Ok. This is funny, I have to admit!
What if this actually got enough signatures? Haha
I find it funny how these people keep constantly shaming anyone who wants to buy the game, yet they go out of their way to pull crap like this. Legitimate critisism is fine, but this is crossing a line that is 20 miles back.
Hahahahahahaha!!!!
See? Corruption is why our government won’t act lol
Orangeman saves gamers by banning Pokeman!
What a headline that would be xD
All these people have to do is not buy the game in order to make an impact. Let the sales of the game speak for itself. But no, instead these people are going to buy the game regardless.
These people can’t be taken seriously anymore. Assets get reused, big deal. You could tell from the first trailer. Just don’t buy it... that’s how the free market works, if you actually believe in such a thing.
Let's pray for the haters to calm down their mind and we can play Pokemon Sword / Shield peacefully. 🤟
They need more sugar of love to cure their sour and saltiness. 💖💕
I thought that I had seen it all. I would be speechless if this is in earnest. I'm guessing it's a parody appeal. Must be.
Gotta love that hate <3
Can't wait for sales numbers, I need to buy more popcorn (but I may be too busy cause I'm playing pokemon shield all week).
If this is satire it’s quite funny.
If this is sincere it’s horribly depressing.
Seriously? Seriously. Seriously?.....
@graysoncharles Don't forget to Pokemon-Go To The Polls
@Glitchling78 : You give Americans too much credit.
I'm one to criticize to these games but these people are huge idiots.
OK, this is beyond ridiculous. Why would Trump do something?
I'm all for #BringBackNationalDex and, in part, even #GameFreakLied, make no mistake of that.
But this... is just... stupid. Plain and simple, it's dumb.
Cue people saying: "and if even AlexSora89 thinks it's stupid..."
They are not wrong.
Wow! (Some) Americans really are more stupid than I gave them credit for.
I only have two letters for these people..
No.
Gotta love the liber... I mean reasonable people.
This people are violating are rights to purchase this game. They told you not all the Pokemon were coming, so no false advertising. The Pokemon hyper fans believe a data miner. Who didn't even do a proper data mine.
Feels like a joke tbh. A news site started reporting on it back when it had only one person who signed it, and since then it hasn’t gotten even more than 200.
Basically nothing at all. You could accomplish this based on one or two simple trolls. I hope people don’t blow this out of proportion
this isn't hate, rather it's a joke 🤦🏻♀️😂 -like how are you going to report this with a straight face without laughing about it? haaa really report something else that's actually truthful next time.
yes i know the petition is real -so is a petition someone has made about making meme's god, but nobody talks about those types of crazy real petitions, but this one because its "new" and "omg" -like stop..this has been done before it's for funnies.
No doubt Russia is involved in all this nonsense. Quit now frauds!
@BarefootBowser if I had a missus that looked as good as his I wouldnt be thinking about Pokemon either. Poke something but defenately not Pokemon 😂
I would say this surely wouldn’t be taken seriously... but it is Trump. Still maintain he’s suffering from dementia, it would explain a lot.
Not sure where you get off continuously mocking those who are upset with the game. This is obviously a joke and even if it isn't, it has less than 200 signatures.
The games do have issues and the devs have been shady about it. If you still want to play and enjoy the games, most people agree that's perfectly fine. But stop acting like they're without faults, or that people shouldn't be upset.
Also, there are no more people who don't want the games bashing those who do than there are "defenders" bashing the "haters". I've seen plenty on both sides and they all look equally idiotic.
This is clearly a joke making fun of the haters and I love it.
This is greatly stupid
It’s getting funny
If this was a joke I would think the message would end with ''Make Pokémon great again!''
Otherwise missed opportunity
Also I imagine Trump actually doing this just to take the attention away from the impeachment hearings. DON'T GIVE HIM IDEAS
Wow! If this is serious, I feel sorry for those that are taking it to this level.
Sorry for your misery. I'll be here playing Shield if you need me.
People asking Trump for help is a clear indication of common sense. This is a MEGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
People like this make me worry about the future of my country. I served in the military so that dumb people can live free.
While I certainly wouldn't take back that time I spent in the Navy, I would certainly travel back in time and hand this person's mother some birth control!
@UncleJungle This is not about people who dislike the game. If you dislike the game, cool. If you sign this petition, you're a complete idiot. It is not a joke, just read it. If it is, they forgot to include any funny lines or any sign of self awareness or intelligence whatsoever. There are people who genuinely believe their disappointment over a Pokemon game is important enough for the government to care in the slightest.
For Gods sake... People need to calm down, it’s a freaking game. Some gamers are absolutely insane and need help.
Idk whats dumber.
The fact that you wrote an article about an obvious troll petition trying to dismiss everyone who has problems with this game as an idiot or that some knuckleheads here actually take this thing seriously.
Well, honestly, this is just dumb.
Trump would make a statement “I’ve put tariffs on Game Freak and Nintendo products and now they want to make a deal with us. They will release the most beautiful Pokémon game ever and we will make Pokémon great again!”
It's a joke people.
Please tell me you got this from Babylon Bee.
@PorllM My point is more that this isn't something to be taken seriously and Nintendo Life is just adding fuel to the fire. Something they've done numerous times regarding these games. This was the most recent article to tie into all that, so that's why I'm saying it here.
@Ruthless4u Knowing about the rampant sexism, racism, alt-right, etc. rampant throught so many video game fandoms, I sincerely doubt this is the work of "liber... I mean reasonable people." 🤷♂️ In all seriousness though, we definitely shouldn't be bringing politics into this, regardless of the accompanying article. That's an additional can worms that should stay in the freezer, lest we awaken the dormant gamergaters.
So the "we've been lied to" song and dance wasn't the extent.😏 Well, considering that fanship and politics are both in the top tier of corrupting influences, I wish I were more surprised at the notion of one trying to get some support from the other.
POTUS elections 2020, "Make Pokemon Great Again". You read it here first.😆
@graysoncharles My thoughts exactly
"We've covered the numerous complaints about the game already, but – as our Pokémon Sword And Shield review clearly states – this is a solid start to Generation 8 on Switch."
Yikes @Damo , someone thinks very highly of themselves. Yes, you gave the game a good review, that doesn't mean it is law.
The way you talk about the folks launching criticisms sounds dismissive too, as if the complaints made aren't valid.
Yeah, this petition probably isn't going to go anywhere but that's no reason to mock anyone. Honestly, it's hard to even tell if the petition is legit.
Huh? Surely just don’t buy it?
I was super excited before and based on reviews probably won’t bother now - I would guess a lack of sales will send a message anyway
If 100,000 people actually sign this, I will die.
Where were the haters in the last 20 years when the Pokémon games were stale and boring?
Pokémon Sword/Shield are the most interesting Pokémon games since Gold/Silver.
On one hand, people are against Chinese videogame developers because of politics, and at the same time the same people turn to politics to change the Western videogame market. The trolls reached a new level of brainlessness.
@PorllM A lot of these types of jokes online aren’t meant to be funny to all the viewers. Commonly it’s more so funny for the trolls who made it so they can laugh at all the attention they get from it. People on 4chan have organized several of these types of things. Although this seems like it was done by one troll mostly
Stupid article for stupid people.
I basically read that as "We, the People of the United States, believe we have all the rights and are owed everything".
LOL
Well, their hearts are in the right place. Ideally, we'd have some kind of agencies all over the world that monitor anti-consumer behavior and act as their advocates.
But heck, our American legislative and executive branches are anti-consumer. Anti-public, for that matter.
I have my own critiques about the games, but for sake of us all this is stupid and ridiculus.
As an American, I am embarrassed. Embarrassed for those who hate a game (just for the sake of hating it) without even trying it first and try to get it banned, and embarrassed that they are trying to appeal to the worst president we have ever had, who is embarrassing enough himself.
Probably the first time in my life that I can say I am not proud to be an American. =(
@Snaplocket @graysoncharles Welcome to 2019 dude.
This is laughably childish. But judging by the poor sentence structure I do actually suspect a child wrote this.
It's currently gone up by 8 votes... if these trends continues it could reach unprecedented levels of near 300 votes by the end of the month.
If only gamers stood up more for the 'market rights' and demanded a proper COD, Need for Speed or Fifa game.
https://media3.giphy.com/media/u31fedwl4J7G0/giphy.gif
@astrofan1993 I'm not aware if too many people that are hating the game just because. Usually it's due to complaints that have been brought up.
Joke or not I hope this reaches Trump as things could get interesting.
@KingBowser86 I don’t think their hearts are in the right place at all. No I believe they’re being selfish little . If they don’t want the game, then don’t buy the game, but don’t go ruining it for those actually interested in it.
This reminds of that clip from McBain: Let’s Get Silly.
I am SO tempted to get political.... well, let me at least say that I'm not surprised at all 😂
I'll be the first to admit that I think Game Freak has made some serious missteps in how they've handled the entire launch of Sword and Shield (they really should never do their own PR ever again) and I'm not entirely thrilled with how these games are looking, but come on. You cannot take a video game so seriously that you would want your entire government to intervene on something that hasn't even been released
These hate crimes against pokemon, tantamount to racism!
Of all the problems in the world...
Please continue reporting on these absolute non-stories. 23 signatures at the time of the tweet you got this from. Mhm.
.
Of course there's only two type of people:
Every person who hates the game obviously supports this letter.
Got my copy today from shopto and have to say I'm impressed so far, yeah so what if it hasn't got all the pokemon, it still has hundreds more than I can possibly do with, and the graphics are nice, this is what I expect for the first main pokemon game on the switch as it will only get better from here
@GamingFan4Lyf Whoa that went to a dark place. Have a hug
See. I just argued on the other article that complaining is actually a good thing. This example though, is completely stupid.
@Antraxx777 How are they being selfish exactly?
This was probably made as a troll, but alot of people are salty about the game getting good reviews.
Reporting satire with a straight face is something I did not expect from you guys.
@astrofan1993 never be proud of your country, I stopped doing that the day I realised that means I'm also proud of all the idiots doing stupid stuff then too.
Being proud of yourself, or people close to you (if deserved) is a better way of life.
I yearn for those innocent years when jokes were still a laughing matter and I could have firmly believed this to be nothing but a silly joke. But the recent years have shown that there are far too many people willing to take a joke too far.
needs signatures by December 12th; Laughs in playing it for a month. If you don't like what a company releases, don't buy it. I'm willing to give it a try and I can't wait for tomorrow
Not sure I like this even as a joke. We already hear about how he thinks video games destroy minds and turns people into Doomguy.
@patbacknitro18 That makes zero sense. Why would people who are petitioning against a game still buy the game? I boycotted EA a decade ago. Guess how many EA games I own? Zero. I know you’re trying to be all edgy or something but really? Big lol
@Anti-Matter Would you still be so positive if Sawk was cut from the roster?
@Rayquaza2510 Ah, part of living in a country and being proud of it is learning to take the bad with the good. I’m honestly extremely happy where I live, and am very proud to live there. I’ve got a great career because of where I live and a very good life. Even though I’m around SOME negative people doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world for the country I live in.
And to think those people can probably vote, too...
How foolish, The game has not even been released yet and people are already ticked about it. Just because they used some older models doesn't mean the game will be bad quality.
If they want quality entertainment they shouldn’t ask Donald “Miss America” Trump.
They should just focus on his tweets and people reacting to them. Not that’s comedy!
@RazumikhinPG Not gonna lie, Game Freak hasn’t pushed the game to the quality it deserves, yet. Obviously, writing to the President and Congress is pretty drastic (I don’t like where GF is going with this so I’m not buying it) but I think GF needs some kind of wake up call from the fans to actually make something of quality. Right now it’s just 20 games that all play exactly the same, just with different names and faces. It’s like they don’t even try, and are just using the same cookie cutter formula.
@Mr_Muscle at certain point if you see certain stuff in you life, you should not have seen you learn the opposite, but everybody is different so maybe I'm wrong on that regard and it is just me being that way.
But to be more clear (which I was not) I mean the country I originate from, not the one I live in almost my whole life.
@Mr_Muscle for several reasons. One is because they hate it and want to experince how bad it is. It happens all the time with movies people know are going to be terrible, but they still go to the theater to see it for themselves. Another reason is these people are just feeding into the crowd. Theyll put on a face to join in this banning sword and shield movment, but in the privacy of their own home theyll end up playing the game. Another situation that happens often. Fallout 76 is a recent example of this. And if you still doubt it then thats fair, but the games sales will reveal just how strongly devoted these people really are.
Am I the only one who will play the game tonight and probably enjoy it? The concept is just too good.
Imagine them reading the issues with it. The questions they'd have. "what the heck is a pokedex?"
The only word in that statement I agree with is "freak".
I feel like this has to be another situation like the Area 51 Raid, where one person starts a movement as a joke, but so many people get behind it, and the man who started it starts questioning his decisions up to that point.
@AlexSora89 and if even AlexSora89 thinks it's stupid...
There, I said it.
The article headline sounds like it was written by a middle schooler, and makes you sound just as stupid as the petition.
On top of that, it’s not like Pokémon is top-notch anymore! They keep churning out the same game with different faces. Can we get SOMETHING a little different? Or are the fans so rabid that they aren’t able to handle any variation, so it locks GF into making the same garbage, year in and year out?
Either way, stupid headline, stupid story. Can you guys at NL try a little more professionalism, at least? Making fun of a group of people on your website says more about you than the people who are upset with Pokémon SS.
I know this is most definitely a joke, but I bet some might not see it that way, and see this as evidence for how stupid Pokémon fans are. Not that Pokémon fans are behaving like angels right now.
@sarethums I would pay good money to watch a congressional hearing about Pokémon. That would be quality entertainment.
You've got to be kidding me. Get a life, people.
@astrofan1993 There is rampant gun crime in America, but a petition against Pokémon is what pushed you over the edge, really??
@Kalmaro Exactly. NL is acting like “but we reviewed it and it’s fine so what’s the big deal??” Really makes them look stupid. And honestly, GF doesn’t listen to it’s fans, and now when the fans are trying to get their attention, people make fun of them. It could be a joke, it could be a serious petition. But what I do know is that GF needs to shake up Pokémon in a big way.
Signed!
Make America Great Again
Oh wow, a petition from a website where anyone can do petitions! Parody or not, this kinda news getting around is pathetic really
Also:
>Not even 200 signatures
Slow news day isn't it?
I haven’t been happy to be American since 2016. I put off buying the game until the dust settles and I can just enjoy it without all this external bias.
Gamers giving gamers a bad name 2019 edition
@Fandabidozi I approve of this comment because of the name and display picture alone.
@Antraxx777 That's exactly the cancerous attitude that we don't need more of. "We want large companies that have the resources to make things that people will love!" in the same breath as "If you don't like it, don't buy it, but don't expect any alternatives ever because we only like and support massive megacorporations existing and we'll shame you for not liking it!" I can't think of one well-performing organization that advocates for the public in the face of politicians and companies acting in their best interest (again, without any incentive to do otherwise) over making decisions that are better for public enjoyment and well-being. It's dystopic that power structures have gotten so large that such a thing would even be needed.
No, there are clearly features being removed from the game that are standard to the series. Namely, the National Dex. Which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for Pokémon Home and the Gotta Catch 'Em All tagline. That's part of marketing and could actually be held accountable in some fashion.
Removing moves and Z-Moves? Eh, that happens. Megas? Replaced by Maxing. That's gameplay adjustment. No one would sue Sora/Nintendo for nerfing Falco's Down Air from Melee onward (though I think that is criminal lol).
Wow...people are just ridiculous. Well others complain, I’ll be enjoying my adventure in the Galar region.
Aaaaand now I'm disgusted. Those 193 people are the worst of the literal worst. This is beyond criticism in every sense of the word. This is just toxicity that's quite literally gone further then video game hate should. What is actually wrong with these people?
@Kalmaro Because they claim they’re not going to enjoy it, so instead of just not buying it, (like a sane consumer... do they realize they have such incredible power?), they throw a tantrum and attempt to block the sale of it outright.
It’s very possible that petition is fake, but noone would be surprised if it isn’t, because we’ve seen just how irrational and caustic these game fandoms can be.
Really reaching today, huh?
Can't the haters just let the people enjoy this game.
@KingBowser86 If they don’t like the game, don’t buy it. Consumer Money... It’s by far the most powerful weapon they have over corporations and Capitalism. If enough people don’t buy it, then the next time around the developer will have to work much harder to win back the trust.
People should not be surprised that the new games have some stumbles; this is the largest Pokemon yet and the first mainline game on console. Gamefreak/ TPC have largely developed inside a safe bubble and this is the first time they’re pushing a bunch of new subsystems across such a large space. It would prove financially unfeasible to try to port all those Pokemon and their moves, while trying to balance the gameplay with the new systems.
Fans have complained for a long time now that the series had grown stagnant. The developers can’t win with this type of fandom.
Haters seem to be so hateful about this article existing... who didn't see that coming?
Is a minor, idiotic petition with barely even 200 signatures clocked really what passes off as news-worthy nowadays? Anyone want to put down a bet on how many more pointless articles are going to be written just to milk the Pokémon controversy?
@graysoncharles I am a republican, and I have never been more hyped for a Pokemon game.
I get that it's kind of juvenile comedy and going over the top to follow a meme, but it's the sort of thing that makes me hate what the internet has done to all of society. Things that were weird and not actually funny in middle school suddenly become seen as general audience humor.
Then again, it's not like Lorne Michaels has been doing something much different from that for the past 20 years.
Humans... What a thing we are evolving to.
Seriously, what is wrong with people? I'm still prooobably not getting the games (waiting on more details) but I'd never stop someone else from getting them.
One thing is give constructive criticism and other just plain hate the game this is just ridiculous even if the game looks graphically outdated with cut content, (Pokémon and moves) more expensive for less (60 instead of 40) and tries to make you pay for Home in order to have all your Pokémon for future games just don't buy it simple as that, let others enjoy whatever they like even if it's a bad game
I'm buying both games regardless of all the hate. The loss of a National Dex doesn't bother me. Come at me, mon.
Oh come on now this is getting ridiculous
Well, I guess it’s not any dumber than getting “Gamefreak Lied” trending on Twitter. What a farce.
Like, lemme put into perspective how little this actually means.
More people are here on this 1 post on a niche gaming news site, than on the petition.
Absolute sensationalism for the sake of calling out "haters"
This is a situation where I could easily see it being either fake or real. It's not unusual for trolls to latch onto controversies and enflame passions for the lulz, but this also sounds in line with the entitlement, disconnection from reality, and passion I've seen in the most hardcore anti-SwSh folks.
If nothing else, even if the petition creator was trolling, I'd probably bet money that a lot of the people signing it are doing so unironically
Just give a early Christmas gift to trump. Pokémon sword and shield and a Nintendo switch to try for himself. Haha
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! If this is a joke, it's pure genius. If it's not... God help us all with the extreme entitlement of the new generation. The pres has bigger things to worry about than a stupid children's game like, I don't know, the security of a nation?
@NEStalgia
Totally! If the 80s was the "Me" decade, then this decade is closing out as the "ME! So F-U" decade. I have never seen such selfishness, entitlement, myopathy, lack of restraint or tolerance (mostly from those who supposedly preach tolerance) and general lack of gratitude in my life.
People who love trump don’t tend to like government intervention in the free market. Lol
Joke or not what a time gone alive
@Antraxx777 I see. I can't get behind just taking the game off the market since some people still want to play it. I can get behind putting pressure on the Pokémon company/gamefreak for lying...
That said, that's for the customers to do. Not the government
@Donutsavant
Exactly.... and this is why.
I know most Americans are average people and not utter idiots, but there must be something in your country that breeds so many people that fit the stereotype to a T.
@Antraxx777 "Don't like it, don't buy it" doesn't work on companies so large that poor sales won't happen due to the franchise's power (see: Disney) and mediocre sales of a product can be attributed to other reasons. You think there are market forces at play that should be at play, and are at play for small- to medium-sized companies, but every financial indicator that would be read won't tell a large company's management otherwise (and internal assisting staff would be ridiculed or worse for trying to deliver bad news when everything else is "glowing").
I'd love to know if any of these people know how to actually make a game and cram that much content into it, because it looks like entitled whining to me.
And here I thought the Federation Force haters were embarrassingly stupid. facepalms
People can hate a game and criticize it all they want, but I think this has reached ironic big brain status.
This is probably satirical, but if not...
Oh wow.
Oh wow.
Wow.
@Manah A deadly combination of media-fueled Tribalism and hand-holding Statism that measures the effectiveness of its agencies by their dollar size rather than factual results and public opinion. I don't know what will happen to America, but let it be a lesson to other countries - don't shun nuance, Tribalism is bad, power structures cannot be allowed to get too large, and the free market gives proper practical risk/reward incentive for humanity to expand its knowledge and capabilities when properly regulated (kept in-check by just a handful of Socialist-esque guiding policies).
One more day, then hopefully all of this will be laid to rest.
@Rayquaza2510 I like that bit of wisdom. Its a good one.
@westman98 The fact it wouldn't be at all surprising if it wasn't satire but a dead serious petition says something about the shoddy state of the world we're in ...
Well, I hate to burst your bubble but this won't happen because President Trump is an avid Pokemon player and has been waiting for Pokemon Sword and Shield to come out. Sorry.
https://www.talentsmart.com/articles/How-Complaining-Rewires-Your-Brain-for-Negativity-2147446676-p-1.html
Only '221 SIGNED' this is barely newsworthy
Lmfao! I love my country but damn is it full of idiots!
The sheer amount of entitlement contained in this letter makes me physically ill. I’m the first to admit the new Pokémon games have glaring flaws, but to take it this far you have to be the absolute worst kind of person. This does not bode well for humanity. I realize it may actually be trolling, but it’s intended to prove a point, that there are actual people out there with this kind of disturbing attitude and sense of entitlement. I hate people so much.
It's pretty obvious this is a troll. it's funny thought. Still just don;t get the game. GF don't care what we say, they care what our wallets say
I'm hoping the games will heavily disappoint in sales too to be honest because I want quality pokémon games again and game freak really needs a wake up call, but this is not the way to achieve that.
Market rights being violated? Well you reached out to the right guy. Nobody knows violations like Trump does.
@graysoncharles sorry. Guess I'm just used to the vocal minority ruining everything for everyone else that I figured this was their doing.
@patbacknitro18 That's a lot of assumptions on your part, but you do you.
I'm sure the President of the United States will get right on that.
@Rayquaza2510 Yep! Some people have the inability to see their own shortcomings, and have a fine time of pointing out everyone else's.
The bunch of babies can throw a tantrum all they want, it's not going to stop mature people that are actually giving the game a chance. Also, trying to get help from the "President" is nothing more than a big waste of time.
Please tell me this is satirical.
Please.
Otherwise, I'm really concerned for everyone involved...
@Mr_Muscle That's actually a good point! America seems to have a harder time letting go of that, but there is progress being made at least (Indigenous Peoples' Day replacing Columbus Day in many states for example)
@Noid I had no idea they were replacing Columbus day. That's a great idea.
@mallowhprain02 Why is it a sign of maturity to play Pokemon?
Also, why not just skip buying the game? That's a sign of maturity, also.
Why do you idiots even need to bring politics into this? Why? What the hell does it have to do with anything?! Just ignore the moron complaining about the game! Stop giving them attention!
abunch of entitled snowflakes asking their orange one to stop sales over a flawed game reason why im losing faith in humanity each day.
@Yosher you might end up eating those words if pokemon sword and shield have record breaking sales.
As ridiculous as appealing to your president is, i suspect generating a smear on company reputation in the industry brought about by a political involvement could negatively impact the strength of Pokemon shares, even with a strong sales figure.
Plus this is America we are talking about here. Political parties are always looking for red herrings to entice and engage constituencies.
violence in gaming, taxes on software...
Radical action usually always stems from inaction. Maybe pokemon company need to pay attention
Pokemon fandom seems like the craziest of gaming fandom. I'm starting to take back whatever I've ever said of the Sonic fabdom.
Asking a greedy out of touch businessman who cares about no one except for himself if he will help bring a video game series hurt by greed back to its former glory. Wow! Genius! [/s]
Good grief, this has turned into just bashing the US and Trump now. What a day.
@RiasGremory I know it will. It's Pokémon, they could literally put a turd in stores with a little Pokémon branded flag in it and it would still sell like hotcakes, and this is why they won't ever bother to bring up the quality of these games anymore because they know it'll sell anyway and that makes me sad. Too many people blindly buying these games.
Thank you though, you helped me decide that I will not be buying these games. I've been on the fence for months but now I'm sure.
@Yosher That's why I bought the Digimon cyber sleuth pack yesterday, comes in tomorrow!
Meh. I don’t really see this as a widespread issue. Thanks for trying to paint “Sword and Shield haters” as morons, Nintendolife. I didn't realize you guys did brand control for GameFreak.
This is just pathetic. Oh no, a company is not making a game the way I demand it, I'm gonna go cry to the president to make them stop selling it. I have lost so much respect for the pokemon fan community over all of this whining. How about if you don't like the game (without ever playing it for some reason) you don't buy it and go play something else instead of jumping on social media channels/forums to see how many people you can influence to feel the same way as you. I hate that society nowadays is so entitled. You didn't make the game so why do you have demands? Don't like the way it turned out? Save your money for a game you agree with and move on with your life.
@Kalmaro My two favorite things
Funny that these kids will whine about socialism apparently taking over the Western World but don't understand how Free Market Capitalism works. If it's not a quality product, it won't sell. Cry more.
These are some of the people who scream that Democrats are evil socialists or communists for wanting things like basic clean water regulations or the LGBTQ+ community to be protected from discrimination. What they’re calling for is fascist adjacent censorship and I can’t help but laugh at the sheer absurdity of it all.
I'm gonna laugh if this actually works.
I love all the hate the game is getting. Can't wait for it to sell as well as always and even those who hate on it buy it, but just so they can say "I'm right because I've played it"
@Kirby_Girl What did they do to you?
Lol. That just shows how dumb most of these haters are.
Trump gonna build a wall around the Pokémon Sword And Shield haters and have them pay for it
To those people in the words of Austin Lockwood (Lockstin) “you people suck” or when remarking about that one guy making false rape accusations on twitter against the devs involved; “mega suck”.
https://youtu.be/H68BcOTahBw
@Kalmaro existing, for one.
I like to believe this is satire
Gotta love when anything skirts into politics the comment section is outright aweful.
But the topic; Just another day people relay to making the government do something for them. This isn't news, this is simply a concerning sign.
@Yorumi Us old folk remember a simpler time when civility reigned, even on the internet. Mostly because us old folk weren't on the AOL message boards back in the 90's like the rabble. Web 2.0 is what happens when the AOL message boards become the entire internet. This is the result.
I want to be angry at NL for this sort of thing, but I'm also aware that that's simply how you keep the lights on with an internet site in 2019. It's not just the norm, it's the only functioning model at the moment. Even real news runs that way now. The internet exists for the lowest common denominator, now.
@Paraka I'm still 90% sure this is (bad) satire, but even still it's worse than that, it's "dear government, please smite my enemies!" I've read a book or two about that sort of thing.
Obama knew what Pokémon were I believe, Trump...I don't think so. Trump wasn't born when video games were even a thing.
@Kirby_Girl How does America and Trump existing affect you negatively?
@Mr_Muscle The attitude that some fans have been showing since the whole no national Pokedex thing started has been getting out of control. Yes they can choose to not buy the game but threatening GameFreak and harassing gamers that are choosing to get the new games, that I have no tolerance or respect for.
on the petitions page that started a petition to build a death star. Ok this is dumb
@NEStalgia - I can see this being extreme satire, especially since it is a natural counter-culture that accumulates from actions of an opposing ideology.
Lordy do I know those books. It's funny when people are dismissed as conspiracy theorists cause you point out the overlap.
Also amusing to see people mock what other people have done by... doing the exact same thing.
@Kalmaro lmao. The fact you have ask who he or the US effects is hilarious and so detached and wild. NOT LIKE THE GUY HAS AN IMPORTANT JOB OR ANYTHING. Not like what the US does effects other places. Not like he appoints judges, signs off on stuff, promoted ideologies, or effects policies.
Please for the love if god, get out of whatever safe space your brain is in. That is all.
@Kirby_Girl You kinda dodged the question. What exactly has the US or Trump done to you that makes you wish that they never existed?
All presidents appoint judges, sign off on stuff, promote ideologies and effect policies. That's being a bit vague.
Also, family website, please watch the language.
@Kirby_Girl - Problem with that is that Trump is temporary a problem, meaning just over 4 years ago the US still posed as an existential problem for you, sans any Trump ideology even being remote.
In that case, you also had a problem with Obama and the US. So your vague retort still does not bare the fruit for the conversation, you're asked to hate and do it willingly with broad strokes to define it. This is galvanized by his question is a simple response to degrade his position of inquiry, asking is essentially not allowed cause you believe in a fool-proof stance. Kalmaro is pretty well versed in this cause we even had conversations over it, he knows well why HE dislikes certain things, he was asking you to engage with what you felt, and you clearly felt he is too beneath you for discussion you berate him, calling him detached from society and "wild." A concerning reflection of how you act to others.
And this is coming from a relatively anti-Trump dude myself.
@Paraka if you are gonna talk to me like a dorky debate team kid than ill berate both. I have no respect for nonsense
@Kirby_Girl - I was pointing out why your actions are nonsense cause you have broad, hateful strokes. I am here to converse, clearly you're here for something else.
Literally this dismissive comment makes you look like a troll lurking in WoW. Making snide comments with no weight then dismiss the call-outs. You don't want to be right or talk, you're just here to be edgy.
@Justaguest Trump would just use it for toilet paper like he does with all these petitions that go to him that aren't about building the wall.
This is stupid.
@Kirby_Girl I think we'd just like for you to elaborate on what your issue is. You basically said that your issue with Trump is that he is doing his job.
I still don't know why you wish the US didn't exist.
I hope that doesn't include people in the US.
another proof that the Pokemon community is full of whining, pitiful and stupid personas
won't work, even if trump approves. this type of thing would have to made into a law & if said law ever got passed it could do nothing but do more harm than good.
also i doubt even trump would approve of such a thing to begin with given his history as a businessman, if anything he'd side with gamefreak.
@Kirby_Girl you really shouldn't judge an entire country by it's idiots. which sadly this one seems to be riddled with. besides, there was obviously not going to be a decent president this time around at the point the last election by the time it was down to 3 candidates. at least trumps corruption is fairly out in the open, hilary is more corrupt & better at being secretive then trump and should of been arrested and thrown in jail before the election was even over. bernie might of been a better choice then either of the other 2, but he sure as hell wasn't winning it.
@Shadowmoon522 Hey, do you mind if I ask what corruption are you referring to in regards to Trump?
Wow... Pokemon fans are truly, utterly insane.
Also ewww, douchenald chump... 🤮
@Tempestryke Federation Force is a damn good game. With those others humans, called friends, it's a blast. ☺️
I’m definitely getting it now.
Like clockwork.
https://twitter.com/SophNar0747/status/1194687422648504322
If this is a serious petition, then wow, that's wild. Wouldn't be surprised if it was - some of the biggest Sword and Shield detractors I've seen on here probably WOULD want to see these games cease to exist.
People just need to vote with their wallets, not buy the games and just ignore any news about it. No need to go after people who are excited for the games, and no need to keep repeating the same negativity over and over.
Yeah, kinda hard to do much of anything while being impeached.
Funny or not funny, Seriously, I hope that this is a joke, a dump joke!, I don't have (good) words for this, but, simply I will ignore this, and as a Pokemon fan, I won't accept ideas from those "fans", for me, they aren't fans anymore.
And, well, really I don't care, my games are in the way to my hands and I will them play with joy and fun.
If its that bad don't buy it surely, I'm unsure about buying this one myself to be honest, it looks fun and I've been a fan of pokemon since the late 90s so I want to ignore the complaints but they do put me off the game.
@Shadowmoon522 you are making an assumption that I have great opinions on the other previous candidates. So please don't talk about generalizations while making them
@Kalmaro we have different opinions on the job that needs to be done
@Kirby_Girl Would you mind explaining what you feel needs to be done?
I am an adult and enjoy Pokemon as much as anyone else, but we need to look at this sideways: a bunch of adults are screaming blue murder over a game aimed primarily at a primary school audience that is marketed through brightly coloured toys, an army of teddies and a saturday morning cartoon series.
Let that one sink in for a minute.
@Yorumi Well, I'm a persistent pessimist, and if there's one thing I've learned watching the world around me unfold, is that despite that, I'm not nearly cynical enough. I need to iron out the last of any positive and optimistic thought I have and then I'll be much closer to reality. The reality is always substantially worse than the worst of my pessimistic ruminations.
So in that vein, sure, the people at the top can set the tone....but that tone might be a small unprofitable niche. I actually don't fault or disagree with the tone on a Nintendo-specific fan site being one of supporting all things Nintendo. Forgive the sports analogy from a sports hater, but nobody goes to Fenway Park to cheer the Padres unless they're visitors or transplants. It's a Nintendo site, of course the tone is going to be Nintendo is always great. It's more the low jabs and bottom scraping that goes a bit tabloid. And the platant political incites. I know why they do it. My cynicism tells me that's the way of the world. But just as the physical world around me has now boxed me in and put a big exclusion sign out front, so has the internet. Physically, digitally, the world tells me "this place isn't for you or your values." Civility, balance, commonality is out. It's now about group exclusivity, and mocking those outside the group. It's a world for the brash, the arrogant, and the free-of-conscience.
It's not just gaming. It's the entire Western world. I wonder if the East does better in that regard or if the internet somehow annihilated all humanity from the world?
Wow. And I seriously thought I couldn’t be amazed any more by people freaking out over this game.
This is definitely good
@Glitchling78 this is definitely sincere. The answer to every question in that regard for the last few years is the same. People are actually this insane.
@astrofan1993 Every country has its idiots and has done something like this, but that doesn’t mean it’s representative of the entire country. If you’re embarrassed by a petition that hasn’t even gotten 200 signatures, you are way too easily manipulated. Not to mention the vast majority of Americans aren’t behind this, yet you’re still using this instance as a way to over generalize. Unbelievable.
oh lord, just don't buy the game!
@Kalmaro he can't separate from his business interests; from doing what his current job is. going so far as to pass laws that more beneficial to the wealthy rather than passing laws that would optimize the country as a whole. which would also be more beneficial for the wealthy in the long run, but greed & power blinds people until suddenly they have a boston tea party with a side of revolution on their hands.
@Shadowmoon522 Which laws are you referring to exactly? Is this about the lowering of taxes?
@Rayquaza2510 You don’t know what patriotism really is then. Being proud of your country means to be proud of its values, its innovations, and its great people. To stop being patriotic just because there are idiots in your country is dumb because every country has its idiots no matter what.
@Pojos98 I know what you mean. It feels like no matter where you look online there’s someone being hysterical over something. Sometimes it’s justified, and sometimes it’s about cute fictional creatures. Let’s just look forward to the inevitable review bombing tomorrow.
@Kalmaro I'm not having an argument about the president under a Pokemon article you absolute weirdo. I stand by my opinion on the fans and the pres. You'll just have to deal with that.
This is why I don’t tell anybody I play video games anymore. Or read comic books. Or like Star Wars. Social media fandom has reached such, SUCH, an embarrassing pitch.
It's wrong to even suggest there might be some special monetary gain given to major sites writing flattering reviews for an extremely divisive game, but if a few nutters make a petition to A LITERAL (literal) ORANGE, we can safely conclude that SwSh are the greatest games of all time, not worthy of any sort of criticism that they have ever received, and a government-mandated purchase of every human being on Earth.
Checks out.
@Kalmaro - I would probably say just leave it be. She was ready and involved til the requirement of unpacking the statements became more than just a backpat statement on the internet, and chose to distance herself from the commentary she previously involved herself in.
This is embarrassing. Entitled little brats think they have their way if they cry loud enough. Makes me sick to my stomach
So now we wait for the other side's petition, asking the Japanese prime minister to hand GameFreak a medal in order to boost their low morale.
Seriously? This is just ridiculous... Talk about throwing a tantrum... I think we need to send them back to day Care until they grow up.
@Kirby_Girl I don't mind accepting your opinion, I was just curious if you would explain why you have them. Looks like a no though.
Have a nice day.
@Paraka Oh I figured it would happen, I just like watching people I know have nothing to back their claims up with implode.
I wouldn’t have thought my respect could drop any lower for these types, but even after three years I still forget to consider the Trump angle, and just wow, how pathetic.
Why is everyone posting this as "news" to defend Sword/Shield.
Anyone can make a petition.
Putting aside that this was quite obviously made as a joke, this petition doesn't even have steam. Less then 300 people have signed it.
@Kalmaro - It flickered like a dying star the moment the confession of berating is enjoyment for her.
When you have no defense left for Game Freaks lies so you just find someone slightly dumber than you to target to make the other side look bad.
To those of you who are saying this is an act of trolling/parody... may I introduce you to something called Poe's Law?
Well, there are no words for this one...
@Glitchling78 it’s hard to put yourself in the shoes of the people who are being so upset about this. When Crystal and Emerald came out I remember just not getting them cause they felt really samey, and then I didn’t even finish Leaf Green... I just moved on with my life. Some people have legit complaints if they’ve been following the series this long but there are also just people acting in bad faith just to create drama, it’s hard to tell the difference.
Clowns. Don’t like it just don’t buy it.
I'm still getting it. Just to see if it's bad as people claim.
Lmao this is hilarious.
@graysoncharles I am a republican but I love Pokemon
I'm pretty sure this one was a joke
@thesilverbrick That's a bit over dramatic and childish outlook
Lmao comment deleted for jokingly putting Trump 2020. Certainly seems like no humour is allowed in 'current year'
Lol. Cute spoiled brats.
Reading some of these comments, people here are as negative as anyone else. Chill out and be nice. People are legitimately upset that they were lied to. If you're fine with it that's on you.
I outgrew Pokemon when I was 10 so I don't care.
@Trajan Agreed. Seems like some people are projecting when they say pokemon fans are acting like babies. Even though the petition is likely a joke I still signed it because i know it will ruffle some feathers
@misterflipnote
Thanks for mentioning that; I looked it up and learned something new.
That said, the wikipedia article itself funnily enough says:
""Poe's Law applies to more and more internet interactions." The article gave examples of cases involving 4chan and the Trump administration where there were deliberate ambiguities over whether something was serious or intended as a parody, where people were using Poe's Law as "a refuge" to camouflage beliefs that would otherwise be considered unacceptable."
So yeah we will never know if this whining about pokemon is serious.
Oh grow up, you pantywaists
@gamekill Seem like a good tactic to mess with the current Overton window and it worked like a charm in 2016 when Hilary started talking about a cartoon frog with no self awareness.
....You know, sometimes you come across something in life that is so massively funny...that you're internal "laughing function" just breaks on impact and you're left completely and utterly speechless...this is 1 of those things.
I read this as "I'm an idiot! Good thing the person in charge is also an idiot!"
Seriously. Don't like it? Don't buy it. The fair criticisms have been made, move on. You don't look cool. You're sad.
That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
I'd like to think it's just a prank... Yet with how crazy and obsessed some of the haters are, it could actually be genuine.
@SquallLeonhart86 The “childish outlook” is the one that demands something be removed from the market because it doesn’t live up to your personal expectations.
@SquallLeonhart86 Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I would never insist someone like Sword and Shield. And I would never deign to tell someone they can’t be unhappy with a product they don’t like. But trying to remove it from the market to spite those who may still enjoy it is one of the most entitled and ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. These people are effectively saying that nobody else should be able to play it just because it didn’t meet their expectations. They are the ones demanding a specific reaction out of others, the very thing you’re accusing me of. You honestly don’t see anything wrong with that attitude?
@thesilverbrick Sure I get you feel that way but what if the negative reaction to the game gets gamefreak to improve the product? I doubt it would literally be removed from the market. Not even garbage like Mass Effect Andromeda was.
@SquallLeonhart86 If you don’t like a game, vote with your wallet. Don’t buy it. It’s really that simple. The solution isn’t to try to take it away from others who enjoy it. And of course this petition isn’t going to actually do anything. It’s just disappointing to see that some people think their personal views on a game are so important that nobody else should be able to enjoy it.
@thesilverbrick Fair enough
@SquallLeonhart86 To be fair and clear, I definitely see and acknowledge the flaws and omissions in Sword and Shield; it’s obvious that GameFreak can do better, and I hope they do in subsequent games this generation. I’m definitely not in the camp of people blindly defending this game at all costs, haha.
I really hope this is a joke but its a very sad one. Of all the things in the world to protest... Then again as a sad joke reaching out to one of the saddest excuses for a human being on the planet, perhaps there's some logic here but overall it just reminds me of how embarrassed I am by my own country right now (I'm American)
@thesilverbrick Yeah I hope Gamefreak can improve
No Presidential policy is needed. If you don't want the game, don't buy it. If the sales of this game were so poor Game Freak would obviously change their formula in a future update or new game.
But I don't think there is anyone who doubts these games will sell very well. Personally I'm picking up the steelbook pack tomorrow morning. I could see Game Freak giving fans more of what they want in the future, but if you look at their history Pokemon games don't change that much generally from year to year. Their last big jump was going to X and Y on the 3DS and then to console in HD just last year with Pikachu and Eve. Sure it would be great to see more Pokemon but they've already said it's a task that is getting too difficult to do.
The last thing anyone of us should want is government to get involved in video games weather it be through tariffs or content censorship. IF President Trump were to get involved (which he won't) things wouldn't go the way this group plans them to go.
Man, seeing the political bickering here is depressing. Trump fan or Trump hater, American or America-hating, can we all remember that at least we are gamers, and most importantly, Nintendo fans?
Jeez. Most of the time, I save my politics for when there’s a real issue that affects gaming significantly, because I have friends from the GOP and Democrats, Brexit Leavers and Remainers, Xi Jinping and Modi fans, and so on and it’s a miracle that we get along together given how politics these days is “your opinion is wrong and you’re evil for having the wrong opinion even if I can’t explain or back up my beliefs with facts or reasons.”
The name of that miracle that gets past all this nonsense is Nintendo. Jeez.
Going back to enjoying gaming with my friends, which includes many decent people in the comments here who haven’t been jerks to others.
Just get dirt on Joe and you won't need any signatures.
our good old shill NL only reports things like this, where were you when they leak the halfarsed job that GF did?
I seriously hope that they can't find 99807 more idiots to sign this. If you don't like it then don't buy it
With that SD Card Glitch with the digital versions, it's actually scary to think that those guys may have been onto something... Still stupid regardless.
@Severian Yeah this is why I can't stand gaming communities anymore. They have all become far too political, and it's crazy because I used to seek out gaming sites as an escape from that.
@JayJ I usually just ignore the political stuff, and just look for the stuff that interests me. If I can have a cool conversation with a fellow gamer, that's great, but if I can't, at least I will know of any upcoming releases I am interested in.
Ignorance is bliss.
@JayJ
I’m okay with political differences, I’m NOT okay with people shouting over one another and judging, letting people feel stupid or disrespected, and personal insults.
The Blitzchung thing was fine for me, the reactions around it from Blizzard were not.
The discussion of censorship like Mai not in Smash is fine for me, but the arguments for and against her that devolved to personal insults sound like kids in a sandbox make me think I want to turn off comments and play the freaking game instead of worrying about updates and exclusions.
Otherwise, glad you have also got some respect and sense towards fellow gamers. Peace, mate.
Here comes the vocal minority! They must think they are so powerful on the internet.
@EVIL-C I'll take your word on it.
@Mr_Muscle I probably could have articulated it better. This incident isn't the first time. More like, it's been the last several years that have made me embarrassed to be an American for the first time, and this is just the cherry on that sh*t sundae.
@Donkey-Kong-Fan I'm not so much embarrassed by the petition itself (trust me, I've seen worse), but by how easily people can be so upset--or even offended--over a game (a game, of all things!) that they feel the need to have it banned.
As I mentioned in a response to another user, I probably could have articulated my first comment better.
I suspect this petition was written by someone like me. Someone who doesn't care, AT ALL, about Pokemon, but enjoys pointing and laughing at the people freaking over this game.
@Tempestryke If I could ever get them together and do a proper co-op video review, (and get decent looking footage) I'd be happy to. 😉
Haters haters are always full of salty
This has got to be a trolling attempt.... Still can't trump the petition for a Death Star all those years ago, pun not intended...
While these games definitely deserve to be criticised, no-one can argue that this petition isn't ridiculous.
That said, @Damo I do have to complain that the quote "but – as our Pokémon Sword And Shield review clearly states" just screams "I'm right and your wrong, no other opinion matters!" Just seems a tad unprofessional, especially compared to the usual standards of this site.
@EVIL-C That'd be cool.
@rjejr
Atta boy, you never disappoint!
@AlexSora89 Have you read the crazy comments in this thread? I'm glad everybody else is leaving us alone, it's insane in here. 😝
@patbacknitro18 let people enjoy things if you dont want it DONT GET IT no need to make 80 youtube videos throwing hate at it and calling people idiots for buying it. gaming is the most toxic community of all. its your money do what you want with it no wonder people make fun of people for liking pokemon because of things like this
@Theober555 its a video game grow up.
@GAMER1984dude Pretty sure my comment was about the article itself, not the game so I'm not sure what your point is.
@rjejr
Well, I'm surprised no one's been thrashing at me given my... let's say, previous efforts on the matter. Which would have been a pretty understandable reaction given what I've gone on to say on Sword and Shield.
@AlexSora89 Yeah I noticed your comment this morning about the game selling well in the UK so it's all downhill from here. Which reminded me Pokemon has been all downhill since the match 3 games, free-to-play games and awful toy game on the Wii U that cost $20 but should have been free. And Let's Go.
Pokemon isn't a game at this pint, it's an industry. And when things become an industry it's all about the money, nto about the quality. See Sonic. But I don't think this game being bad is the beginning, it's just part fothe 10 year old progression. Didn't people hate those Mystery Dungeon games as well?
@rjejr
It's like Sonic, except the hedgehog is nowhere near as bad as this.
@AlexSora89 Sonic '06 to Pikachu - hold my beer.
@rjejr
Sonic Generations says hi.
@AlexSora89 Well there ya go.
The funniest thing I read this year. Its sooooo ridiculous!!
@MarkieMAN64
And I yours. 😊
