Not to be content with only bringing us the retro Contra Anniversary Collection this year, Konami are treating us to whole new game by the name of Contra Rogue Corps which will land on the Switch on 26th September this year.
As revealed in today's Nintendo direct, Contra Rogue Corps offers a top-down isometric view of the action, which reminds us of the special stages of Contra 3: The Alien Wars in a way.
Players can play as classic Contra characters and even a panda bear(?!) to take down those naughty alien invaders in Damned City. The game will feature local wireless co-op and online multiplayer and looks like it will be a blast.

Top down Contra finally Konami is answering the frothing demand!
This looked pretty cool. I was also surprised that they showed a Dark crystal game, though that one looked very boring.
Glad to see Contra ain't dead. Also downloaded Contra Collection already since I really want to play Hard Corps on Switch.
I'm gonna grab that Contra collection so fast when I get home.
I hope it's better than Appaloosa's 3D Contras on PlayStation...
Not digging the panda bear.
@Wavey84 Panzer Dragoon was announced last fall.
This looks OK at best. Why didn't they go with a 2D run and gun?
Looks utterly awful.
Love the sound track
Will wait for nearer the time to see if this is a purchase or not.
Looks very good to me, like a proper successor to Neo Contra. This and NMH III were definitely my highlights of this direct.
This could be fun with a few friends
Yeah this was... ok. Definitely one of the more questionable games revealed. The Collection is going to be awesome, but I don’t trust Konami with new games yet. We will see...
Looks like a fun party game but I think I'll just stick with the Contra Collection for now.
I'm getting this. I'm obsessed with this franchise. One of my favorites since way back in the NES era.
BTW, I've managed to finished Contra IV on DS which is considered by many one of the toughest video-games ever made.
Bragging rights are meant for bragging.
I’ll keep an eye out for it. Looks alright, but I’m definitely getting that collection game.
This was one of the more pleasant surprises for me of the E3 presentation. But the burning question remains: will The Code still work?!?
Eh, this is not the direction I hoping for, for Contra. And good lord, of all musical tracks to set it to. Way to take me right out of it you guys. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I will put no stock into it.
This franchise deserves better than an isometric clicker. After 30 years this is how they "reimagine" a classic IP? Jesus Japan, learn to develop modern 3D games that are actually worth the asking price.
All I'm seeing out of Japan at E3 is a bunch of remasters, asset flips and desperately clinging to a time when they were innovators in the industry.
The industry takes 2 steps forward and nintendo and their partners take 3 steps back.
How come Japanese devs associated with Sony don't suck this bad?
Sadly, Im not getting any "Contra" vibes from the trailer.... Just a generic shooting game...
Hoping there is going to be a demo to try it
A brand new Contra sounds awesome, but why entirely top down isometric 3d? And the style and tone of this just seem really obnoxious. I thought they really nailed it with the Rebirth wiiware game. I'd sooner have another one like that.
Would’ve preferred 2D Contra, but I have Anniversary for that. I’m still excited about this! Looks pretty good to me! Like to think this is the start of a Konami Komeback!
If we buy this like good Nintendo/Contra boys and girls, maybe we’ll get Contra V one day!
I remember Konami trying to make a top down Contra game back 1997...It was a poor mans The Chaos Engine.
Yeahh baby die download collection already, need this badly
@LaytonPuzzle27
That terrible one wasn't made by Konami, but ousourced to Appaloosa.
Konami later made their own top down Contra, Neo Contra, in 2004 (PS2) and it was very good.
I wish they’d just keep contra 2d. They’re so much better that way. Contra 4 on the ds was so good. Definitely getting the collection but maybe not this
Sold! I liked! It definitly have the contra spirit!
What the hell is this Konami? Is this a Contra? This more looks like a generic indie shooter on Steam. There is no Contra vibe and atmosphere. Graphics are awful (Neo-Contra had is more beautiful than this). After all these years, we got an ugly Non-Contra!
Konami, your are the masters at mishandling franchises. Instead of money, you shall get one of my fingers (and you know which one)
@Axlroselm Lol Non-Contra. Just like Contra Force. So in a way it's still Contra-like!
It kinda looks unpolished, but hey they have time
Maybe Konami does give a crap about making actual games out of their IPs instead of gacha games and pachislots
People on Youtube and Twitter say the game looks like a PS2/Wii game. I think this looks very good
Why a Panda bear?
I want to like it. I really absolutely do. It looks fun, especially if you have some friends around for local wireless, a little disappointed to see that actual local multiplayer isn't supported. But this isn't Contra.
I don't trust a 3d contra. Hopefully it will be great fun and I'm wrong.
