Re: Feature: The Biggest Nintendo 3DS Games of 2017 - Summer Edition

RoomB31

There's a lot to like about what's still to come this year for 3DS even if you wish Nintendo had pushed these onto Switch (which is silly because these were in development even before the Switch was announced, & even knowing whether it would be a success or not, it wouldn't have been smart to put all your eggs in one basket). Monster Hunter Stories, Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon, Layton, Metroid, Miitopia, this is a really nice varied list of games that I'm looking forward to, I also will be looking forward to all these series next games on Switch

Re: First Impressions: Running Scared from Sonic Forces

RoomB31

which is unfortunate because I'd love a GOOD 3D Sonic Game, but I'm not sure it's possible, and I've played a decent amount of them, they feel fun for a level, but they are either TOO on rails or they aren't and then they feel clunky, I'm not sure there is a WIN at least for me. I think the last Sonic game that I enjoyed was Sonic Rush on DS.

Re: Splatoon 2 And Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle File Sizes Appear On Nintendo eShop

RoomB31

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's more about one company not knowing how to utilize it's assets, compression & file management. Fast RMX is only 900mb and is not Nintendo developed, the game is polished/clean and beautiful, Shin'en knows how to utilize storage and assets, Saber Interactive (Playgrounds) clearly doesn't, and even with ALL that space the game doesn't play spectacularly.

Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@electrolite77 I see what you're saying, there isn't a ONE GAME solution, but that's why it's so problematic to rely on a single title to determine the future of their support for Switch. There are a plethora of titles that have appeal in different genres that it would be unfortunate if they didn't do a little more to see if there is interest in their games on Switch. PVZ, PEggle, Sims, Need For Speed, Titanfall, Mirrors Edge all have different audiences. Let's just hope that regardless of how well Fifa does, that they try out other categories before making any swift judgements.

Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@electrolite77 Sure why not try, but a sports game specifically soccer/football isn't the game to get non-sports enthusiasts excited.

I'm not saying it's niche I'm saying it's narrow. If you like Fifa/Soccer/Football, yeah you should probably give this a chance. I have ZERO interest in this game/sports games in general, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to succeed as I want to see other EA games brought to Switch, I'm just not convinced this is the game that will convince EA do that.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Defends Nintendo's Indie Support and AM2R Policy

RoomB31

An Animal Crossing App without an Animal Crossing game right around the corner wouldn't make much sense with respect to how Nintendo has been using the platform. It's the one game I was hoping to hear about at e3, but considering that the App will make it out this year, i'd expect to hear about a new AC game around launch of the app. here's hoping.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surge Pass A Million In Japan

RoomB31

Europe doesn't have the same affinity for portable gaming like Japan, nor does it have the same affinity for things nintendo like the Americas, but I suspect the major culprit in Switch not doing as well in Europe (which is why there are less supply shortages) especially in the UK is the price.

Re: ARMS and Nintendo Switch Lead the Way in Japanese Charts

RoomB31

@Equinox I have no doubt that they are holding some back for Splatoon 2 each week, but not a ton, they really do need to find a solution for production volume, but this loop will likely continue for a while. I'd expect maybe around 70k Hardware sales week for Splatoon 2's release.

Re: EA is Focused on Nintendo Switch Portability and "Exploring Other Products"

RoomB31

They clearly or naively see the Switch as a portable console only, at least this is how they are spinning it. Hey EA did you get the memo, it does both!! So their excuse for not porting isn't a technical one (but of course it is) it's gotta fit the "portable" style of play.

If they don't wanna make games for the Switch because they have zero confidence in it, they should just say so, but they obviously don't want to put their collective foot/feet in their mouths.

I do want third party support for Switch and will support those games that I actually WANT to play, but if EA is basing their whole support off one game, let alone one genre and one sport, well we shouldn't have high hopes for EA Switch support in the future.

Re: Streets Of Rage And Etrian Odyssey Composer Isn't Sure Why The Switch Exists

RoomB31

@Sinton depending on how good the translation is, I wonder since he references Nintendo saying
"They only really want to have people enjoy their own games more"
that he might be talking about power, as less AAA games will be likely to appear on its "lesser" hardware and since Nintendo knows how to work with that, that they become the masters of their own domain, but this is just a thought.

Re: ARMS Grabs Second Place in the UK Charts

RoomB31

@RupeeClock usually new pokemon announcements causes a uptick in older releases. So it probably hasn't resonated with people yet, the more Nintendo talks about a new Pokemon games, the more the back catalog sells.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

RoomB31

It's what I expected in terms of total announcements. I would have liked to hear about other games, but I think they had altogether strong games, if few. NO VC was disappointing but expected, I just don't know WHY Nintendo didn't have any 3rd party or indie sizzle reel for Switch, it would have been nice to see the games coming out this year, and I left feeling like there wasn't much coming, which isn't entirely true, but certainly felt that way from what they presented.

Re: Feature: The Nintendo Spotlight, Treehouse and Splatoon 2 Invitational Footage from E3 - Day One

RoomB31

@MadAdam81 while true, this isn't about showing everything they were making, but showing more that was coming, 3rd party and nindie sizzle reels would have done wonders. I have to "blanket search" every website now to find out what's coming:
like Blade Strangers (pubslihed by Nicalis) a 2D fighter with style.

It just would have been nice to see what was coming all in one place.

Re: Poll: Did the ARMS Global Testpunch Land a Knockout Blow?

RoomB31

"It was fun, but not full price fun" = The food was good, but I only want to pay for half of it.

I understand if you have limited funds and you didn't enjoy the game enough to warrant a purchase, but then just say that. We all have limited funds, but more-so we have limited time, so we can't enjoy everything anyways, even if all games were cheaper.

Digital gaming has been a blessing and a curse, it has allowed much smaller studios (even one person at times), with tiny budgets to connect with a huge audience, but it has thrown into question how much a game should cost, from a $30 indie being too expensive, to the amount of content in a AAA release.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be questioned, Capcom clearly thinks it's okay to charge what it did for USF2, and most people have spoken with their pocket books. Retail games are pricey, and it's good that the digital indie race has interrupted the idea of what games should/can cost.

the less we spend on games, the less likely we are to appreciate them. I don't mean that cheaper games have less of an impact, I mean the more on-sale something is, the more we see them as disposable, and move on much quicker.

Re: The Order: 1886 Studio Ready At Dawn "Interested" In Working On Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Some could be under NDA's as E3 might be where some of these games may be announced. BUt it's true we've heard of a lot of "interest" from higher tiered developers but ZERO in terms of actual concrete game development.

I do and don't want the Switch to be the next Wii, in that I don't want piles of shovelware, but loved out third parties did really cool stuff on the Wii that no other platform got (or didn't get until much later):
Zack & Wiki, MadWorld, Red Steel 2, No More Heroes, De Blob, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Fragile Dreams, SH: Shattered Memories, RE: Darkside Chronicles, Dead Space: Extraction, Little Kings Story, Muramasa. My point being third parties can create great titles for Nintendo consoles, they just have to want it, and maybe we just need to be a little patient, but not too patient...

Re: Confidence in Nintendo Grows as Share Value Surpasses Previous Pokémon GO Peak

RoomB31

It's "good" news, but it's not really something to watch that closely to. Investors are fickle beasts that do not understand the market (gaming not financial in this case). Nintendo has done well with so little (like bare bones) that there is no where but up, so this is positive, and I look forward to the necessary improvements (online etc..) and additions (proper browser, streaming apps, VC) that will hopefully grace this awesome HYBRID this year.
