My Wii U preorder from Amazon won't get here till next Wednesday , suffice to say I am not impressed, and not sure I'll preorder games from Amazon again...
@AlienX for two reasons 1) resolution, 2) compression, and I believe all Wii shop games had to be under 45MB or around there. I expect (hope) Waku Waku 7 to look and sound better on the Switch.
@ChessboardMan I would say that Nintendo probably requires games work in portable mode, meaning that the game cannot just work in dock mode, and this is probably the only requirement. I can see some developers wanting to create docked only games to take advantage of the extra HP, but this will probably never happen.
@daveh30 I think it will, but mostly in Japan where no doubt the switch is being touted as a portable that can hook up to a tv vs in the west where it's a home console that can be taken anywhere.
I see nothing wrong with this approach either, because it opens the console to a whole lot more dev's that might not bother.
And honestly I don't care how "LONG" it is or how MUCH CONTENT there is to need to justify the price. Some of the most enjoyable games I've played are merely a few hours long, but beautifully crafted and executed. If you can't see value in the game, don't buy it, simple as that, but don't pull this BS how much content you need to be satisfied. All of this is within reason of course, because we expect more from our hard earned dollars, but c'mon, most people barely complete the main game these days, citing their evergrowing "backlog" of games they will never get to (but bought at a great price no doubt)
It's okay, as long as they produce unique content for the Switch, which is what I expect most 3rd parties to do over porting, also XV wasn't very good, I'd rather a port of XIII & XIII-2 as a bundle. but either way i'd rather unique content, or releases in the same window.
Compared to any other 3 day events that's SUPER reasonable, and will sell out fast! I Don't live in the US, but if I did, I'd be vying for one of these passes. Consider ComiCon prices, and you see that this is pretty decent.
Those aren't great numbers for a new release, sure it's a compilation of eshop games with an amiibo, but it still should have done better than that. Considering that it now has 3 games in the series, the visibility of the boxboy brand is much much higher than when the first was released. I guarantee stronger Western sales if it's ever released outside of Japan, here's hoping.
I already own the first Boxboy, but would but would probably get this day one, which is why I'm holding out from buying BoxBoxBoy on the eshop.
@rjejr Funny is we didn't used to be SOL in Canada, so we're feeling it quite a bit. I get currency fluctuations, but this is horsedung! When we used to pay the same for the Wii U to paying $80 more for the Ps4 to now paying $100 more for the Switch, and now $80 per new release (AAA).
Also that $399 (with tax) is more like $455 for a lot of the Country. and that $80 game is now $90. I now wait for gifts/sales...
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy because the US isn't the centre of the Universe. The Wii U in CAD was the same price, the Wii in CAD was the same price, and now the Switch is $100 more, yes I get market value ,trade tariffs etc blah blah blah, but we don't magically get paid more because our dollar fails us compared to the greenback, So $399 is quite expensive compared to what we were used to.
This is great! But Nintendo needs to get 3DS's back in stock if they are actually interested in keeping it alive, it's been extremely hard to buy most 3DS's since the holidays.
That's great, and essentially a launch party for the Switch, but Nintendo needs to dole out info every week till launch to keep interest and momentum, not to mention open more pre-orders.
@RoboBubble even if it was $249 USD, it wouldn't have been less than $329 CAD so not sure where you would think it would get close to $299 CAD, when I heard that it would be $299 US i was okay $379 CAD (Still high) but nope $399 and thats past my limit, which is sad because I do want one, but not pre-ordering. I was really expecting 1,2 SWITCH to be part of the console bundle, and agree some game should be bundled at that price.
@MarcelRguez yeah but don't you see it as a missed opportunity? I mean, it was detailing the launch, for a system that comes out in about 6 weeks... seeing only 2 defined launch games was super disappointing, and a huge fail at communicating a reason to pre-order. I'll get one, but probably not until the Mario game comes out. Also can we talk about the price of controllers.... absurd.
@Xaessya Does it even matter? Can you even find one on store shelves? I haven't seen a Wii U (new) for a while, all shelves are empty and no where online (in NA) have i seen one in stock. You can find some used through gamestop/nintendo.com for around $200 or so.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's not unsurprising, but is disconcerting. Reasons being the Switch carts def cost more to produce, which ultimately means less physical indies & smaller scale games, which will result in full SD cards relatively quickly (although if they are easy to remove and insert it may not be all bad).
Regardless, if there is a physical version, I'll get it (because that is what I prefer), but if I really want to play the game and it's only digital, I'll download it.
I'm excited for this year, because c'mon it's Nintendo! they may make really dumb choices sometimes (so much that it boggles the mind) but the games, THE GAMES!
I will be getting a Switch, just not at Launch, not because I don't have faith in the hardware or software, just because I don't have time, and I'd rather spend my money on it when I can spend time with it.
considering the black friday $99USD (139$ CAD) deal for the N3DS, this isn't a deal, a digital game adds no real value especially if you already own or do not care for said games. Great that it's discounted,
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it is a question, but clearly not the only measurement, as with pokemon go, the real question beyond that $10, is how it moves people to buy Mario related games and consoles, as this is Nintendo's ultimate goal with mobile gaming.
@Peach64 Can you not believe that people might actually like both games a lot? It's all subjective unless there are game breaking bugs/mechanics. However, both games have their flaws, but both games are quite fun. Also ratings systems are (many poop emoji), that a 7 is somehow only mediocre is baffling.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I don't see how Color Splash or SF: ZERO equate to Nintendo's laziness, but rather too ambitious/too quirky to really appeal/be appreciated by to those who love those franchises. Trying something different is hardly lazy but always dangerous.
Honestly making a big deal out of nothing (je crois), Sure the non gaming media won't necessarily cover it live, but I'm sure they'll talk about it in the coming days, and isn't it better if there is continuous coverage from different sources, instead of an all out blitz?
@HaNks That assumes most Wii U owners will be buying a Switch right away, and while I want one, I will probably wait till the fall, mainly for 2 factors, I feel the beginnings of the Switch Will be heavy on Ports (which is fine for the non Wii U player, and also fine if these ports are upgraded versions, but doesn't make me super excited to want one on day 1), and 2) I'll have other things to play in the meantime, mainly Ps4 and 3DS.
I just wish they'd be honest with us, "We don't want to release this on a dead console", because if there were such insurmountable issues with the Wii U version, we'd most likely have heard of them already.
The influence just comes from new experiences, and new ways to play Mario, non of this interview sounds like 1-they are going to make more NEW Mario games, or that 2-they will be runners, but it will allow them to look at the market and build off of the (hopeful) success of SMRun, and bring people back to their hardware (which has been the plan all along)
@whanvee I agree with your point to an extent, but I would also mention that the state of the platformer has all but dried up save for Mario (and now 2d indies), so no wonder he is the most popular, he never left our mind's eye. I can barely think of a platformer on other current consoles (that are not indies).
There is this current resurgences of the SNES/N64/GC heyday of the platformer, so I expect that we will see more, eg. Yooka Laylee, HD Crash, and tons of other 2d platformers.

@shani I guess you haven't place DKCR: Tropical Freeze, a game that came out in early 2014.
the screen doesn't even light up on that game unless you choose off screen mode.
