Since the reveal of Nintendo's newest controllers, the Joy-Cons have quickly become an object of customisable obsession for many fans. Pining for more colour variations from the standard grey or neon options, many mock ups have been designed in the style of previous Nintendo consoles. Now professional painting service company Colorware has gone one step further by actually replicating the original NES colours.
The controllers are created from officially manufactured Joy-Cons which have been taken apart and custom painted in the famous colours of the NES. The product is sold in original packaging and promises to give your Switch the ultimate retro feel.

To own a pair of these wonderfully stylish Joy-Cons though it will cost you a pretty penny - $199.99 (£153.37 apx) plus shipping, to be precise. Keep in mind there is always the possibility that Nintendo may make an official NES-themed set of Joy-Cons too, so your investment may be worthless in time.
What do you think to the custom NES Joy-Cons? What other consoles would you like to see represented? Leave us a comment.

They look very nice but at that price No thanks
Deep pockets? How big are they? hehe
laughs at the price point
Ya gotta be joking... Wait, you're for real?
laughs even harder
$199? May as well just buy a second Switch at that point.
Nice looking.
But it's too expensive...
Nice! ..but, at that price, I'll (keep) wait(ing) for the official Nintendo retro Joy-Con's!
No d-pad No sell.
C'mon Nintendo or somebody else.... Make it happen
The more i look at them, the more i notice how they are just grey controllers with abit of red
You'll need deep pockets too to carry around a Switch, nevermind to buy those Joy-cons.
A very rough tinker with Photoshop and I do mean rough. This kind of colour set wouldn't be half bad.
Beautiful. I kinda want 'em. Stay my hand.
Who wants them anyway? It's not really nice in the hands when gaming. It's too close. No sale Nintendo
$199? Might as well get a new Vita or 2DS XL plus a couple of games.
Good lord...for that price, I'd buy 2 more sets of joycons instead and be able to play full on 4 player arms tournaments or Minecraft sessions locally on my own TV.
Considering they only charge $499 [$200 for the paint job] for a fully decorated Switch package, charging $130 extra for some JoyCon is insane...
Very nice looking.
Buy an 8bitdo controller if you need an NES controller for your switch this badly. Much cheaper.
More hoping they make the NES and SNES Mini controllers backwards compatible somehow, whether its an adapter they make or just make Wiimotes compatible (Unlikely as I'm sure they want us to keep buying the many editions of joycons and pro controllers for our multiplayer options rather then dust off our Wiimotes.)
So expensive and don't even have a D-Pad, no thanks
I'm one to typically pay up but this is way over priced.
No d-pad?
No, thank you.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'd actually prefer joycons that actually have the same button configuration as the GC etc... sure we lose out on the two player aspect, but people who buy them wouldn't necessarily need to worry about that.
I'd like to know the painting process used to produce these. They look cool for sure. But even for those who have the disposable income to justify the expense, I'd want to know how durable the paint is.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE my pockets are big enough to carry my Switch around, but I wouldn't recommend it.
"Keep in mind there is always the possibility that Nintendo may make an official NES-themed set of Joy-Cons too"
I'd say the chances are higher that they would make more NES minis before they came out with something like this!
We can just decalgirl.com this stuff. XD
I get that it is custom made but $200....'It aint that serious brah.'
We can just do these for under $22. Looks real nice and doesnt break your bank or wallet so much.

They look really cool, but DANG is that an expensive price.
Nope, I'll wait until Nintendo does official themed versions of the Joy-Cons. I won't buy too many but I will get an NES one and a specific game themed one if they look good enough.
They look really cool, I'd definitely buy it if it weren't really expensive
@Bunkerneath your right look at them in a bit more detail imagine the rails off and they are actually not that different to gret joycons
Great! I'll buy it!
Looks at price
@#$_ it let's hope Nintendo gets those official ones done
Wonder how much production time went in to customising them and what the final production cost was. Would be interesting to see how much profit they are making from each sale.
@dres 100% agree. We need a joy-con with an actual d-pad.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I am thinking on doing this along with doing colored joysticks as well. Making it look almost exactly like gamecube controllers. Along with Blue-purple L & R, and Grey ZL and ZR.
@WindWakerLink DecalGirl ruined my Switch Dock. SO MUCH RESIDUE. Thankfully I removed my skins right after that from my Switch and they were fine.
I don't understand the nostalgia for something as fugly as the NES. Same thing for Atari VCS woodgrain. I like oldies too, but some things are best left in the past --- especially at jacked-up prices like this.
@Steven_the_2nd Ouch!!! That's really unfortunate. Did you get matte finish or a gloss finish?
@flojomojo
The base unit was pretty ugly (all editions), but I still kinda like the look of the controllers. But that doesn't matter, its look has become sort of iconic nowadays.
That being said, this paint-job honestly doesn't scream NES if I'm being honest. I looks more like some NES/SNES hybrid. I do think it looks totally awesome though.
@WindWakerLink Was a gloss finish decals. Let them know but they didn't really do anything. There was no reply.
@Steven_the_2nd ah the gloss finish. Matte finish would probably have been better. I worry about gloss finishes because of stuff like that.
It sucks they didnt reply back. no refund or switch, [pun not intended], out your gloss finish for a matte finish. I guess they lost a customer. Dang.
@WindWakerLink The finish on the outside of the decal should have no effect on the actual sticky part underneath. They are both the same decal just different finish on the outside. thanks tho
These look nice. I think the price is fair when you consider the work they do to make that. The joy cons are 80 bucks alone. But these have custom red buttons and a paint job that may require a lot of work. Off a production line, it probably isn't worth 200 bucks. But this is a high quality custom item.
