Re: Talking Point: Unique and Affordable - Nintendo's NX Needs to Avoid Direct Competition With PlayStation and Xbox

RoomB31

@bolt05 it's a personal taste, I frankly still don't see many interesting titles for PS4 and almost 0 for Xbone, I will be getting a PS4 in the near future, but the point is, there is no killer app for me, not yet, some loyalists or "hardcore" may call blasphemy, but personally it's just not there for me.
On the Flip side I have 25 games for Wii U and many eshop titles, I value my Wii U a lot. So we don't have the same opinion, doesn't make a console less valuable or useless to the right customer.

Re: Nintendo And DeNA Experience Share Price Jumps In Light Of Super Mario Run Announcement

Full pay apps, while something I prefer to the free to play, or the in app purchases (coins etc...) are not as revenue generating, so I don't see this making as much money as pokemon go. It's east to spend a dollar in pokemon go, and to do it over and over again over a period of time, not knowing how much you ended up spending.

The caveat for a full pay game is to get people to upfront all the cash, (which might be $4.99?) since mobile has a reputation of "FREE" its tough to make significant profit from it. But we'll see, Mario is an extremely strong brand, so who knows.

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

RoomB31

@AhabSpampurse It's meant for casual gamers who know Mario but most likely don't have current Nintendo hardware.

The idea is that it offers a limited amount of game to make people want more and buys Nintendo hardware and software, kind of like how Pokemon Go has increased awareness to Pokemon and boosted sales of at least pokemon software...

Re: Poll: Did the 3DS Nintendo Direct Boost Your Hype for the Portable's Line-Up?

RoomB31

@hYdeks I don't think you can include Smash in the "ports"category since the 3DS version came out first, and was simultaneously developed.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my Wii U (I have close to 30 retail games), but I knew it was dead even before E3.

There is so much Nintendo could do (ports, better VC, release eshop as physical, to extend its visibility at retail) but with the announcement of the NX, and Nintendo's stubbornness to not do any marketing or price cuts for the Wii U just means that they have almost ZERO resources focused on Wii U, and zero interest to grow its install base. They've crunched the numbers and its not financially sustainable to try and push console sales at this point.

These games are coming to 3DS because of their portability (without too much lost in translation), their marketability, and the fact that Nintendo see's the investment as one that will likely see decent returns, there are few likely future sales in the Wii U dept. for those games, and an untapped market on 3DS where they can flourish.

For people who were disappointed with no NX announcements, um I have no clue what you were smoking going in, but there was ZERO NX news to be had.

For those Disappointed with next to no Wii U news, I get it, but it was also stated by Nintendo that it was a 3DS DIRECT not a Wii U one.
I actually think it would have been better for Nintendo not to mention the Wii U at all, because in the end it did more damage than good, sure it was nice to hear that Skyward Sword was coming to Wii U, but highlighting a port and showing little else just proves you have nothing to talk about and just enforces the death of the Wii U.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS Stays on Top in Japan Despite Tales of Berseria Release

RoomB31

@rjejr thanks I rarely get a "well said"

Yeah, releasing more games on NX doesn't redeem Nintendo in my eyes either. It will get them on a better footing for this new gen, but severely cuts into the current and near future use of my Wii U.

Like you I have also enjoyed my Wii U a great deal, but its because of that enjoyment that I feel disappointment in the lack of new quality Nintendo games.

Re: Weirdness: Pokémon GO Triggers Massive Trainer Stampedes In Taiwan

RoomB31

I've stopped playing, while it's still fun in short bursts, I'll probably only go back if there is a major update. BUT, it has gotten me to return the ACTUAL pokemon games, finally beat X/Y and I'll probably get ORAS now until we wait for SUMO. The hype is real, but I've moved it back to the mainline series.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

RoomB31

@Yasume who says the people at IGN and Destructoid are impartial? Point being, reviews are always going to be biased in some way or another, it's upto the individual consumer/gamer to decide if it's worth their time.

Frankly, I don't really care how people perceive it, for those who love it great, for those who don't that's fine, I've never cared for the series and this won't change my mind either way, but I think if you do love the series you should probably figure it out for yourself.

Re: Pokémon GO Has Set Five Guinness World Records

RoomB31

What Pokemon Go has accomplished (unrelated to the numbers) is make me go back to Y and finish it, which I did 3 days ago! woot! But I have barely touched GO in a few weeks, it's good and I like it but it can't hold my interest. So Nintendo's idea of bringing gamers back worked for me, and judging on the increase in Pokemon 3DS games sold I'd say its worked for a few.

Re: Darksiders is Coming to Wii U

RoomB31

@SLIGEACH_EIRE they did score when purchasing up the rights to those THQ games. Their history on Wii is shovelware city. It's a smart sell at the right time for Wii U only owners, who have little in terms of retail releases in the coming months, Just don't put it out at the same time as Paper Mario.

Re: Darksiders is Coming to Wii U

I got II with the Humble bundle, and finally started playing it. I had always been curious, and thus far it mostly doesn't disappoint. It's highlights are its upgradable components, it's Zelda/Prince of Persia action components. Loading can be annoying as it wants to be seemless but can interrupt the flow when entering new areas, but it's minor compared to the intense screen tearing.

I hear the original is better, so if I get through II I'll definitely check out the original.
