Re: Feature: 10 Essential Wii U And 3DS Platformers

RoomB31

Woolly World & 3D World for me

I've kept trying to go back to Rayman, and it's fun and a beautiful game, but there's something odd about it, that I just can't fall in love with. 3D Land is great, but World with its co-op cats just has it beat.

Tropical Freeze and Shovel Knight are also great, but again, I can't commit to finishing them, maybe one day.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon Help Keep the 3DS on Top in Japan

RoomB31

@BLP_Software Oh I know NPD is once a month, but usually when something sells exceptionally well (and I think Sun&Moon did) that someone touts it, even if its not exact numbers... but I'm patient, also the end of the month is already here, so hopefully we'll get actual numbers soon,

Just looked it up, its the second Thursday of every month so I guess that means the 8th possibly.

Re: Nintendo UK Promises More NES Classic Mini Stock Before Santa Arrives

RoomB31

@rjejr There was other reporting on this, either by Kotaku or Polygon I can't recall, but while this is stupidity on Nintendo's part, no doubt, it's doubtful it's fake shortage, and actually Nintendo being sooo tight with their money in recent years, that they are afraid of seeing stockpiles of merch take up dust in warehouses that might not sell, "cough Wii U cough" (cough cough ET for Atari cough cough) and since that it's been one paranoid mess after another, and no one (well maybe now) has done much to fix it.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon Help Keep the 3DS on Top in Japan

RoomB31

@Pikachupwnage Which is great, but I think still under XY, I'm still waiting on NA numbers, it's been eerily quiet on that part, the only thing I've heard on that part was that it was a top seller during black friday, so that bodes well. According to VGchartz, which we should take with a grain of salt, NA had about 800k in pre-orders, so it might do quite well if this is true.

Re: Review: Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (3DS)

RoomB31

I think it's Highly over exaggerating to say that this version should play AT ALL like the Wii U version, why? because its a portable version, it's $20 or more cheaper than the Wii U version, and it doesn't need a Wii U to play, that around a 5/1 ratio of 3DS to Wii U's owned, so MOST people won't have anything to compare it to.

We can compare the Wii U version the a Switch port if that ever happens, and then decide if it's worth repurchasing, but I don't think it's justified to score this version off of what it does or doesn't have from the Wii U version.

Does that mean we can't look at the differences, no of course not, we're all gonna see what's there (and whats missing), but judging it as if its supposed to be the same game is silly.

Re: Rumour: The Skylanders Franchise Might Be Facing Cancellation

RoomB31

I had always been a little curious about skylanders, so when EB was having a sale on a Superchargers set $15 CAD, (while still wary) I dove in... I couldn't have been more disappointed, just not fun, and kind of aimless, also the vehicle controls we abominable. And while I get that the point of these games are to buy more figure/vehicles, I didn't want to spend another $30 CAD so I could try out the flying and water levels. Eh TTL games are not my thing, if they could make these games less shallow then maybe...

Re: Pokémon Sun And Moon Is Nintendo's Biggest UK Launch Ever

RoomB31

@MrGawain Agreed,

I think the only other Wii U game coming out this year (retail) is Minecraft Story Mode, there was Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, but I believe that's delayed till who knows when...

For 3DS while there isn't a ton coming out this Holiday, the system has SOOOO many games, that it's easy to pick some of the evergreen titles that keep selling.

For Ps4, I currently only have one for FFXV, the only other reason I bought one is because of all the amazing indie titles it has, and since my Mac either isn't supported or can't run most, I thought a Ps4 was a cheaper alternative.

So Pokemon is a very attractive NEW release compared to some of the rest, but I'd say nostalgia played a strong part.

Re: Rumour: Monolith Soft Working on Something 'New' for Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@therealgamer please remove me from YOU PEOPLE, I have said little to anything of this regard. Nintendo have themselves stated the Wii U underperformed, the Wii U has ended/or is ending production, these are all clear cut signs that the Wii U is in its last days. Nintendo themselves have said little or done little in terms of marketing or promoting the Wii U, so all signs point to yes.

It's great that you are a developer making games for Wii U, awesome! But that doesn't change what Nintendo has (or rather hasn't) done in terms of ending the Wii U cycle. It doesn't mean people will stop playing their Wii U, I for one will continue for a long time, since I love these games, but that doesn't change the fact that Wii U has had no promotion, no time/money investment from Nintendo.

Your analogy makes no sense, the PS4 sure is the PS3 successor, but that doesn't give legitimacy for ports, ports are legitimized when consoles are not backwards compatible.

If the Switch isn't a successor what is it? A third pillar? if that were true, then Nintendo would be in full force with games/promotions and marketing for the Wii U this Holiday, they sadly are not, there are no Christmas releases, the biggest shopping season of the year and the only new announcement Nintendo has made to take advantage of that is the $99 New Nintendo 3DS, sooooo.... not even a price cut for the Wii U....

Re: Rumour: Monolith Soft Working on Something 'New' for Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@therealgamer Eshop games are a very different story.

You just called out NintendoLife for stacking rumours but yet here you are defending continued Wii U support based on what? oh Yeah Rumours!! Hmmm... what makes the rumours you believe any more true??? nothing, just that you believe them, so great, no problem, i'd also love to see those games out on Wii U, but they are ALSO just RUMOURS

Re: Rumour: Monolith Soft Working on Something 'New' for Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@kamikazilucas How many ports did PS4 get in its launch window, and most of those were just graphically enhanced versions, heck they're still getting ports. My point is, these games happen all the time, Nintendo is just pulling a Sony this time.

Do I like it, not really, but not because "I have to buy them all over again" because I don't, I already own them, on the console they were meant to be played on at the time of release. I don't like it, because if the rumours are true, it means there isn't much in the way of new content for the Switch (at least at launch) which gives me less reason to purchase one anytime soon, its great for Non Wi U owners, but Nintendo should space these games out, not dump them at launch.

Re: Rumour: Monolith Soft Working on Something 'New' for Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

Last note, Nintendo has already soured many a Wii U fan by cutting it's life drastically short (even though I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with it) . People are kinda dejected due to so many Wii U exclusives (possibly) being ported to Switch. The last straw to any Wii U fan would be to release the BotW on Switch BEFORE the Wii U version.

If Nintendo has any heart they will not do this.... Lets wait and see.

Re: Rumour: Monolith Soft Working on Something 'New' for Nintendo Switch

RoomB31

@therealgamer I don't care whether she is right, this is filed under RUMOUR, so take it with a grain of salt, you're incredibly wound up for stuff that is far from confirmed. Can you blame NL or any other news source for latching on to any "news"? Nintendo has publicly stated no Switch news till Jan 12, after giving us a huge tease, so of course there is going to be nonsense rumours (and plausible ones as well). If you don't want to hear it, by all means don't click the LINK.

Re: Feature: 25 Essential Wii U Retail Games

RoomB31

Some people are a tad touchy,

This is a great list, some will disagree, we all have taste and those tastes don't align with everyone, Like what you like and share what you like, (heck, convince us all why you think we should be playing it), but we're all gonna play what we enjoy, and that's the most important.

Re: October NPD Results Show the 3DS Experiencing Steady Growth

RoomB31

@Peach64 I get what you are saying about click-baity & sensational article Headers, but I do think its worth nothing that there has been steady growth over last year for a system as old as the 3DS, given the fact that the Switch is imminent.

There's nothing about the header that makes the claim bolder than it is, and %percentages are how we measure growth. Sure 123,000 units may not be impressive, but growth, even a little, is good for any company, and especially for Nintendo given the times.

Re: Here's a Breakdown of All That Swapdoodle DLC

RoomB31

Eh its free, the "micro-transactions" rather DLC isn't necessary, although I'd argue if you want to get good use of it you'd want to buy at least one of the premium sets for 6.99.

Micro-transactions are not a good choice of word here as this really is DLC, there is no time delay, or little 0.99 items to help you write faster etc... this is really just to add to the experience of this app.

Re: First Shipment of Pokémon Sun and Moon Passes 10 Million Units

RoomB31

@SLIGEACH_EIRE True, but I honestly don't think Nintendo analyzed the market very well, rather than this being a fake shortage.
In their minds (logically or illogically) they thought this closed unit would be for people who used to play Nintendo (currently people who aren't engaged in gaming at all) , not for people who own modern consoles/PCs.

It's shortsighted no doubt, and I don't know how they didn't think collectors and high percentage of the core crowd would want it, but, I still don't think it was on purpose. Allocation seems to be an issue as well, some countries getting more than they need to meet initial demand while the rest of the world goes crazy.

Me, personally, regardless of how cheap it is, am not interested in a closed system, nor do I want another micro-console attached to my TV, especially since I have other means to play these games if I choose.

I just hope Nintendo implements the Quality of emulation in this box into the Switch, because in the least, they've learned that much.

Re: EA Executive Clarifies Scope of Nintendo Switch Support, but is Cautious of Its Prospects

RoomB31

@Ryu_Niiyama Let me clarify, I was referring to your penultimate point on profit making, and investors wanting results. Yes private, it's clear that after every investors meeting, there is this section that should be called "shareholders say the darnedest things", it's laughable at best and scary at worst with the lack of knowledge they have for the industry, yet they carry influence, mostly money, something that I don't see Nintendo needing.

Re: EA Executive Clarifies Scope of Nintendo Switch Support, but is Cautious of Its Prospects

RoomB31

@Ryu_Niiyama That being said, why does Nintendo need investors in the first place? With their mounds of cash, there's no need to glean more money from outside influencers, thus not having its stock waver ,, thus being able to do what they want outside of the sphere of influence. That being said outside opinions are always great, but ones that actually know the business they run, versus profit-hungry power suits.

Re: Super Mario Run Jumps Onto iOS on 15th December, Priced $9.99 for Full Unlock

RoomB31

It's the indie argument all over again. People believe because indies aren't made with $$$$ budget that they should cost cents on the dollar, it's all about how one values the experience.

Sure $9.99 is "high" for mobile games, but mobile game companies are racing towards the bottom of the barrel, & for what?

People spend waaaay more on FTP games, and Nintendo isn't the only one to price their games what they believe to be fair price, regardless of the platform. Square has some pricey mobile titles, but they haven't stopped.

Would people really want a 99c Mario game, wait let me rephrase that, "would people want to PLAY a 99c Mario game? Do you even know what that would look like?

I get it, 9.99 might be a hard sell to the candy crush crowd (even tho they are gambling their $ away and don't even know it), but I still see this doing quite well regardless of what people think of the price...

Now if Nintendo would only give an android release date.
