Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Family Games - Great To Play With Your Kids This Christmas

Regpuppy

@RadioHedgeFund Super Mario Party has some cool ideas. It's just unfortunate that they seemed to spread themselves thin across multiple concepts, rather than focusing on a few. I feel like there's some potential with more mini-games like the baseball one. Like sime sort of foosball minigames.

But yeah, Wii sports was surprisingly deep for a free insert. The motion controls weren't perfect though, which us why I'd welcome a remake on stronger hardware. Then again, I welcome any party filler Nintendo gives me, at this point. Still waiting for dedicated mario futball/soccer, baseball, and golf games to fill out my switch party line-up.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Family Games - Great To Play With Your Kids This Christmas

Regpuppy

@RadioHedgeFund Yeah, it's like a poor Switch version if Wii Sports, and we got that one for free. It's really a shame we didn't just get this as a free pre-downloaded game with every switch, because it's a decent demo of the tech. But as a standalone game, it just doesn't hold up.

I'd actually rather pay for a Wii Sports/Wii Play bundle remake, honestly. THAT would be worth something. Those games managed to get some of my non-gaming family into the hobby, and now I have an older one playing Breath of the Wild on her own Switch.

Re: Review: Gris - A Deeply Affecting Piece Of Interactive Art That Is Utterly Essential, Despite Its Brevity

Regpuppy

The visuals look neat. But between what is being described about the gameplay, and the price. I currently don't feel it is worth it, for me. I guess I'm what you mean when you say "traditional gamer" but it just doesn't seem engaging enough to forgive the short length or the relatively high price.

It doesn't help that the indie scene is pumping out tons of games that are both visually stunning, AND have more engaging gameplay, for a similar, or better, price. This just seems like something I will have to pass on, for now.

Re: Japanese Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Has Already Outsold Pokémon And Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Regpuppy

@Mrtoad While I also disagree with LUIGITORNADO's conclusion. I'm going to have to point out the flaw in yours. Just because Switch sales increased around then does not mean it was fully due to Pokemon. Especially since this is around when the Holiday/Black Friday sales started. Which likely has a lot more to do with the rise in Switch sales than Pokemon.

Not to mention the limited edition bundles for Pokemon, Diablo, AND Smash pulling sales in.

@LUIGITORNADO While it's not as big of a success as Smash. It's still a big success. Not as big as some were saying, but bigger than it probably needed to be for Gamefreak to consider a follow-up.

I personally didn't like it either, because I still see it as a lazy stopgap to buy time for the next Pokemon generation. But sales are sales.

Re: Nintendo Focused On The Current Switch, So Don't Expect A Revision Anytime Soon

Regpuppy

It's weird that people think that revisions in and of themselves are a slap to the face. They've been a significant part of console history for awhile now. I mean, there is such a thing as going too far, like doing it yearly.

But a revision after almost 3 years? I just don't see that as crazy, and would personally welcome a modest performance boost. As long as they don't pull Xenoblade Chronicles/New 3DS nonsense, and keep things compatible, I see no issue. It even makes sense, if we assume a console lifespan of 5-7 years.

Re: Reminder: Katamari Damacy Reroll Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

Regpuppy

There's just not enough money right now, unfortunately. I splurged on the Smash special edition, and I still have gift shoppibg to do.

Though, I do want to get it by next month. Thanks to Amazon discontinuing the 20%discount, I'm focusing on niche or on-sale games anyway. So I don't foresee anything taking my attention away, short of Animal crossing and Metroid Prime 4 surprise launching in January.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 8th)

Regpuppy

There was an issue with shipping and they had to reship Smash. Unfortunately for me, this means waiting an extra week for it to get here.

So I'm just finishing off some of the games I needed to finish. Mostly just getting the last few gems/relics in Crash N-Sane Trilogy, running through Mega man 11, and casually attempting to get to the fun content in Warframe.

Re: Warframe Now Has One Million Players On Nintendo Switch

Regpuppy

They really need to adjust the early to mid content on this game. Unless you're absolutely new to shooters and/or action games, it's just a really tedious and mindlessly easy start.

I mean, I've seen gameplay of the mid to late content. So I know it can be fun. But it's such a boring grind to get there, I find myself switching back to other games in my backlog more often than not.

Re: Rumour: Joker In Smash Bros. Ultimate Triggers Speculation That Persona 5 Is Coming To Switch

Regpuppy

@Agramonte Should it matter? No

But does it matter? Yes, quite often.

Big Publishers are always skittish about bringing an ip over to a different platform.

Not to mention, the noise people make online points to there being at least some demand for P5 on Switch, and a digital version costs them relatively little to do. So even if it is "just the stragglers" it might be a worthwhile test on the Switch as a platform. As the Switch userbase grows, there's a stronger likelyhood they can reach people who don't own a PS4.

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Speeds Onto The Switch In June Next Year

Regpuppy

@Kevember The depressing thing is that two heavy hitters would be missing from any new Diddy Kong Racing game. Both Banjo, and my DKR main, Conker, are with Microsoft now. Add to this that Diddy and DK have already been integrated, and I feel like we're better off asking for a new Mario Kart, or a Mario Kart spinoff with more Nintendo ips involved.

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Speeds Onto The Switch In June Next Year

Regpuppy

Yes! I panicked when I didn't see the Switch logo in the reveal. But it shows in the youtube trailer. At worst, this looks like a MK8 clone with Crash Bandicoot characters, levels, and power-ups. So I can't wait, because that sounds awesome.

Now, if the Team Sonic racing devs can get their stuff together, I might have three solid kart racers on a single console. My nephew is going to love this.

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For December And January

Regpuppy

A lot of this will have to wait, in my case. I want to get a lot of them, eventually, but I went ham and grabbed the SSBU special edition bundle. So I'm mostly tapped out, between that and gift shopping.

I'm a sucker for steel books, and that smash pro controller looks pretty nice. It's the only limited edition controller I'm going out of my way to get. Because the Xenoblade and splatoon ones didn't do it for me.

Re: Unlock Pikachu And Eevee Spirits In Smash Bros. Ultimate With Your Pokémon: Let's Go Save Data

Regpuppy

This should be a thing for every sticker representing a game currently on the Switch. It's neat, and reminds me of some old games that would check for stuff on our memory cards...

Also it makes me think about having to juggle the smaller memory cards for specific games, back in the day. Now I just plop a 128-256 gig sd card into all my Nintendo portable consoles and I'm done with it.

Re: Guide: Pokémon Let’s Go Candy - How To Use It To Get The Most Powerful Pokémon

Regpuppy

@RodSD64 The higher your catch combo for a Pokemon, the better IV's it's likely to have and the higher chance it has of being shiny, until it caps off at a 31 combo. That's the point where at least 4 IV's are always perfect and the shiny chance is better than 1:400. (I forget the exact number, and it's even better with shiny charm + lures) Not to mention the catch bonus for higher combos increases, meaning more candy and items.

It also increases your likelyhood of finding rarer spawns, I think.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Faces Massive Online Data Dump

Regpuppy

If this is a store breaking ranks, Nintendo needs to take a look at their supply chain. Because this is happening more often than usual. If retail stores keep breaking street date like this, it wouldn't be a surprise if Nintendo started cutting people out. We're already casually sliding into digital-only as is.

Re: Waku Waku Sweets Brings Cooking Sim Joy To Nintendo Switch This Week

Regpuppy

@IceEarthGuard I'd argue that Cooking Mama tends to have a higher level of polish, and more refined gameplay. But yeah, I don't really value Cooking Mama at a full 39.99 or 29.99 either. I'd put it at 14.99 to 19.99, because it has a more appealing art style and is blatantly designed for little girls, like my niece.

Re: People Are Review-Bombing Pokémon: Let's Go Across Major Sites, Amazon Japan Blocks User Scores

Regpuppy

I mean, ive been vocal about how I feel. I think the game is a bit overpriced,
AND a lazy stopgap, because Gamefreak wasn't prepared for the success of the Switch. For that, I'd give it a review score of around average, at best. But review bombing with zeroes is a bit extreme, especially since we're getting a proper Pokemon game next year.

If that one ends up being a disappointment for us core fans as well. Then we might just have to move on and ultimately vote with our wallets.

Re: Waku Waku Sweets Brings Cooking Sim Joy To Nintendo Switch This Week

Regpuppy

@IceEarthGuard I'm open to changing my mind, but nothing about what I'm seeing convinces me otherwise. The gameplay doesn't look terribly engaging, the graphics make it look like a glorified visual novel, and I doubt any story in this can make me overlook everything else.

Maybe It's because good indies have raised the bar, but I've paid less for more. So the current pricetag is a definite no. 9.99 would be the Most I'd pay, and that would be a hard sell for me.
