@Peterjr1 The only mention on here I've seen of that term was you. Likely because a lot of us grew up with right wing morale purists who tried to do the same thing. I don't care which, I'm just against censorship for any game. Even if it isn't my usual type of game, like this one. Because a lot of the same arguments can be used to censor out actual meaningful content in more serious games.
If you're going to bother localizing a game with heavy fanservice. You might as well do it right and leave everything in. The fans of the series would like it more this way, and the people doing the Pearl clutching won't buy it anyway.
It was one thing to worry about when there was a genuine risk of the governmemt stepping in. But when all you need to worry about is twitter outrage mobs, I don't see why people keep listening.
There are so many games out, and coming out soon, that I can't say I'm starving for a direct this time. That being said, I'm always up for updates on titles hitting later this year. There's a few that we know are coming, but have virtually no info about. So it would be nice to see something about those. But as I said, I'm not going crazy over it this time.
Yet another example of someone shifting the blame from pushover parents onto virtually anything else. If you are incapable of managing, or are flat out enabling, your kid's poor habits. Then you have failed as a parent. Grow a backbone, and learn when to say no.
Parents like these are why kids are glued to their phones, and have attention spans shorter than the average goldfish.
Nintendo's refund policy could do with being a bit better. But the auto-renewal thing? Isn't this just a common thing nowadays? The only thing I'll say is it should be opt-in, but it's really easy to cancel anyway.
Also, I think people are yet again reading too much into this. I doubt countries have a problem with console platforms charging for their online services. So don't go jumping up and down for free online.
I don't bother with online on my other console, so I don't know about those.
I feel like this is just fine print to cover them for when they eventually move on from the Switch, and not anything significant. Kind of like how Steam likes to remind me that I'm basically paying for a license to use the games I bought, rather than actually owning the game. They have to put it somewhere, or someone will nail them for it.
The problem was their focus on the toys to life aspect, and the cost of their starter pack. Knowing Ubisoft, they likely had some unrealistic sales expectations as well. So I can't say I'm surprised, despite liking both the game and the spaceship figures myself.
I think if they dropped the toys to life part, and focused on what worked. They could've released a decent game at 40-50 pricetag to decent sales. Even as is, if they at least had a base game, without a ship, for cheaper. They could've done a bit better.
I don't hate myself enough to jump on thw hype train this early. I'll calmly spend my time with all the Final Fantasy games coming to Switch next month instead.
@Baker1000 From my understanding, it was licensing issues. Something about the Sega letting the license lapse, and Ubisoft. I'm not sure whether they worked something out with Ubisoft, or whatever. But I guess they have that resolved.

I would actually be kind of interested, if I could migrate my account between Switch and PC. I put it down for awhile, but despite my MMO burn out, I still kind of want to jump back in. My Lalafell character probably misses me.
All I want from a Switch Pro is better performance. I'd kill for higher/more stable FPS, consistent resolution, and better textures. I'd sacrifice handheld mode for this as well, since I wouldn't really see this difference in handheld anyway. If we're getting a cheaper mini, that and the base model will have portable covered for those that want it. I know I'll get skewered for this, but it's just how I feel about it.
Some other features I'd like, if we're gearing this to core gamers anyway.
Built in Ethernet port, death to the dongle.
More USB slots, for peripherals and charging.
Multiple SD card slots, more cheap storage.
More base storage.
Extra set(s) of rails, for joycon charging.
I know a lot of powergamers would welcome this. A lot of whom may have been prefering other games on other platforms up to this point.
Even at this price point, it's just a hard sell for me. There are so many titles in this style, I liken it to eating too much and being offered more food. Even if that food is amazing, I've hit a point where I can't even look at it without groaning.
I mean, it's good enough for me to wishlist it for later. But I'm just on a 2D platformer break. The Switch is a bit too saturated with games inspired by classic Mario, Megaman, and Sonic games.
Feels like this topic is getting off to a spicy start. I was hoping most of the salt from people's favorite characters not getting in would've passed by now. But I guess not.

I'm with Ogbert on this. I'd rather see them put Nintendo characters in games with different formats and twists than in their main games. It's a lot more interesting than shoving them into a similar game.
If I want Mario/Yoshi in a platformer, or Link in an action/adventure game, Nintendo already does that. I'd like any indie cameos to a bit more interesting than putting them into what we're already accostumed to.
@Jokerwolf @Rafie From my understanding, Microsoft doesn't own the ip. But it's a similar situation to Bayonetta, where Nintendo funded development, with the agreement that they would have exclusive publishing rights for one or more games. At least for a fairly long time.
So while this isn't the same as a first party Microsoft exclusive. It is still very significant, and required some sort of agreement involving Microsoft.
Game streaming, even for those interested, is not in a viable state for anyone that doesn't live near one of their data centers. Even then, they'd need some beefy internet to really take advantage of it. This would potentially be more expensive, for most of us, than just accepting the frontloaded cost of a PC/console and buying/downloading the game outright. Especially if you only play a few games thrpughout a year.
On a personal note, technical issues aside. I also don't like how much power this gives publishers. This is basically the ultimate DRM, which will stop most pirating dead in its tracks. But it will also give them complete control over how, when, and if we can access a game. For this reason, as soon as it's even somewhat viable, I see big publishers not bothering with retail, or even digital, at all. Which means it will be stuck to whatever streaming platform.
This would be a nightmare for game preservation, and it means that they can take away access for specific games at anytime for any reason. It also means that, like video streaming, I'd have to subscribe to multiple different services to play all the games I want. Which could defeat the whole pricepoint argument entirely.

TL;DR- I know it's the future, but I don't have to like it.
This is still a smaller game, and I'm not quite ready to jump on the Halo/Switch hype train yet. But I've gone from a little dismissive to just skeptical of that recent rumor.
I don't think many people are surprised by this announcement. I can't say I'm really interested either. Call me a dinosaur, but I prefer owning my games.
-I want Valkyria Chronicles 1-3, in a physical bundle. If I can't get that, I'd settle for 2 and 3 on the Eshop. I also wouldn't mind another game, in the world of 1/4, at some point.
-3D Sonic games need to be handled a LOT differently. Even if I accept they're made for kids, they can pretty much be played by holding the joystick forward and pressing a single button occasionally.
After Fallout 76, there's nothing I want from their internal studio. But I wouldn't mind some news on games like Rage 2, or Doom Eternal. I'd even be happy about some ports of less recent games, like Prey.
That being said, it's a toss-up on whether I bother. Bethesda is becoming infamous for announcing things way to early, and grossly overhyping things. I still have hope for their external studios. But not in them, or their marketing.
I mean, I'm definitely not expecting anything from it. But there probably won't be a regular direct anytime soon. So why not?
@Donutman I completely forgot I wanted that game. It looked like a nice indie LoZ-style action RPG. Decided to check their blog, and it says they're getting close to finished. So it might just be a possibility!
Guess I'll add my opinion to the pile and say I'm against censorship, in any form. As long as a game is properly rated, and parents are given the basic tools to restrict what types of games they don't want their kids to see. I don't see a problem with even pornographic games.
That being said, if a publisher is self-censoring. There's not much to say about it, as it's their game. But I still wish the mainstream would stop obsessing about content that they think is too impure for other people, while ignoring similarly graphic content in other mediums.
I might of considered one for Fox. But their version is kinda meh. That grey and dark blue don't compliment each other at all, at least not in that picture. I'd have preferred white for the body, and a slightly brighter blue for the grips.
I also think they're overcomplicating the visual design on a lot of these, but I guess I'm just a fan of less is more.
I'd settle for a halfway decent 3D sonic game, at this point. There are a few gems, but it's mostly been stuff they obviously just threw together in short a time as possible.
@Dpullam Yeah, I think both them, and Crash Team racing, want to come in at a competitive price point. On the Switch, it's an especially good move. It'll help them carve out a niche next to MK8DX.
I'm just hoping both TSR and CTR are as good as I think they'll be. It'll finally give me some kart racing alternatives when playing with my more casual friends and family.
I actually quite like the customization shown here, especially when it comes to the cosmetic. So even if there is some cheesetastic OP combo, I can still make my car look different.
Despite the weird hate this game seems to be getting. I actually think it's looking pretty decent. So as long as the maps are ok, and they have faster game modes (like MK cc tiers) then it seems like it would be worth my 40 bucks.
@AlexSora89 At least those tend to be brief. The absolute worst is when a show has an entire episode based on videogames, but the writer obviously never touched one in their lives. Bonus points when they have fake-game CG that looks like a poorly made 3D game from the 90's.
Honestly, it just sounds like marketing spin to me, and does not give a strong indicator for what they're planning. There's a fair chance it has to do with game streaming, mobile, or something periphery to a lot of us core gamers. The way they use this future talk has me leaning towarda game streaming, though. Which I don't feel we're ready for yet.
For me personally, if it's not a full blown console, with its own worthwhile exclusives. I really don't care what they do. If it is, and it is priced right, then we'll talk. Regardless, I don't see it as an immediate "threat" to any of the current three platforms. Potentially a competitor in the long run, if they actually decide to invest in it long term. But not a huge threat.
The only thing outrageous is how you guys changed some wording around, and made it sound worse than it is. It sounds like Japanese twitter started meming on them, and they were just embarassed for being called out on it, since it's suppose to be an educational book.
I'm not mad at the kid, the people involved with the picture, or the book's publisher. I'm just a bit dissapointed in NintendoLife.
@roboshort Honestly speaking, I hope I'm wrong. Because I'd welcome a new MK, with new mechanics, characters, and maps. (Chain Chomp, pls) But I just don't see it in the cards, unfortunately. I guess my pessimism, and skepticism, is there to protect me from dissappointment. I'm kind of glad of that, after that Grinch Leak. Lol
@roboshort Sure, Nintendo will always need big software. But that doesn't mean it's going to be a new Mario Kart. If anything, it'll be a focus on new ips, sequels, spinoffs, and reviving old ips. At this point it's less about huge hits and more about filling out their catalogue with exclusives and big multi-plats. Mario Kart isn't the only card Nintendo has to play here.
Also, the trends I mentioned put it at one per system, not any sort of deadline. Even if we look at the Wii, which lasted awhile, it got Mario Kart Wii 2 years in and coasted on that for the remaining 4 years of the console's life. Likely because it remained a top seller for it throughout that period.
@roboshort I'm willing to entertain the idea of a new Mario Kart on Switch, at some point. But next year, while MK8DX is still hitting top 10 sales lists? I highly doubt it, not that early. Not when they can throw out a DLC with 2 cups, and some new characters, achieving about the same effect.
As I said before, Nintendo has been VERY consistent with how they handle Mario Kart. They release one on a system, and let it soak up sales for the lifetime of that console. They have never, up to this point, released two Mario Karts on a console.
@AlternateButtons What do Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 have to do with each other? Those games were on entirely different systems, one a dedicated home console and the other a portable system. It's not the same as having two on the same system, directly competing.
I mean, I won't say it's impossible. But Nintendo tends not to release more than one new Mario Kart on a console, regardless of the console's lifespan. The only thing that has me scratching my head is how exceptional the situation is with the Wii U and MK8/MK8dx. But with its current sales, I just don't see them releasing a new one any time soon.

Re: Random: Child Holding Famicom Controller The Wrong Way Causes Outrage Online In Japan
Re: UK Charts: A Slow Week At Retail Sees Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Race Back To Third Place
Lol
Re: UK Charts: A Slow Week At Retail Sees Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Race Back To Third Place
Re: UK Charts: A Slow Week At Retail Sees Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Race Back To Third Place
Re: UK Charts: A Slow Week At Retail Sees Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Race Back To Third Place
