Re: Review: Everything - A Game Unlike Any Other, But It's Not For Everyone

Regpuppy

I remember getting this game as apart of a steam sale at some point, for almost nothing. Can't say I've gotten any value out of it that I couldn't have gotten from just listening to some audio books on philosphy and staring at a trippy screensaver for an hour.

I mean, nothing against those that like this sort of thing. But it just seems like a pretentious walking simulator, at best. Which is not something worth buying for 20 bucks, in my opinion.

Re: Rumour: Dataminer Uncovers SNES Games For Nintendo Switch Online Service

Regpuppy

Hoping that the next direct mentions something about SNES games. NES games are nice, but the SNES is when games really got good.

I would really like Starfox, and Starfox 2. But there are a lot of good SNES games to bring to their service, even if just sticking to first party. F-Zero, Earthbound, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, etc.

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th January (North America)

Regpuppy

I'll get Tales of Vesperia eventually, regardless of price, and I'll get NSMBU, during a sale or price drop. But, for now, I'm not picking anything up.

There's just no multiplayer games that stand out right now, and it would be silly to get a JRPG, like Tales of Vesperia, when I have a backlog of single-player games to beat. I'll get to it at some point though, as I've actually made good progress on my backlog since the start of winter. I might actually be done by next month. Lol

Re: Yoshi’s Crafted World Launches Exclusively For The Switch On 29th March

Regpuppy

@Tantani Yoshi, along with Kirby and the Mario sports games, are not headliners that sell systems. They're reliable filler for the Switch's catalogue, that build up and make the Switch more attractive in the long run.

The confirmed big hitters this year are Pokemon, and Animal Crossing. But I doubt they'd rush those out just to fit within this fiscal year. I think Daemon X Machina and FE: Three houses might be expected to fill that spot, to a lesser degree, along with any big name ports they can muster.

Re: Random: Fans Ask Nintendo To Revive Super Mario RPG's Geno And Mallow In Online Petition

Regpuppy

When we didn't know the base roster, I could sort of understand this Geno lobbying, even if a bit misguided. He does have an interesting look, and he comes from a beloved, if obscure, game. Sakurai often likes to put in obscure retro and joke charactera into the game, so anything is possible in the base roster.

But as a $5.99 dlc character, from a short list Nintend gave to Sakurai? It's just not happening. He's way too obscure to either pull new people into Smash, or get people to buy the dlc. He's just not relevant enough, next to characters Joker.

Re: Random: Fake Nintendo Direct Announcements Are Fooling People On Social Media

Regpuppy

I just see this as mildly humorous, because it's easy to spot.

Though, I do expect a direct sometime in the next few weeks. Mostly because, if Nintendo wants to get close to their second year goals, they'll have to lay out their plans for the remainder of the Switch's second year. They mostly focused on Smash and Pokemon for the holiday season, understandably, and left us in the dark about this years plans.

Re: Future Business Shift Could See Nintendo Move Away From Home Console Development

Regpuppy

Sounds like marketing speak to appeal to investors. Doesn't necessarily mean anything. As long as the monetization from mobile doesn't seep into their main games, and they keep making said games, I'm not too concerned.

On that note, I honestly wouldn't mind Nintendo dropping consoles, and focusing on portable, or going third party. My only concern is what Sony and Microsoft would do in a Duopoly situation.

Re: Treat Yourself To A Bargain Or Two With The Nintendo New Year's Sale In North America

Regpuppy

The Starlink deal finally got me to pull the trigger on the starter set. I was a little upset about the 75 dollar price, since all of the game wasn't on the cart. But at 30 dollars, it's worth it for the figures and being able to play the game before they shut down the servers. Got me my arwing figure, finally.

Also snagged Dead Cells, pro controller/joy-con recharging dock, the Skylanders DK/Bowser sets, and two AC amiibo bundles. All for good prices. Considering cutting my food budget a bit short this month to pick up Arms and a few others while they're on sale.

Re: Gaming Analysts Predict 'Switch Pro' And 'Switch Lite' Revisions For 2019

Regpuppy

I'd personally buy a Switch Pro, if it had improved performance. But only if it doesn't split the userbase, and is purely for things like load times, frames, and consistent 1080p, rather than variable resolution, like with Splatoon 2.

This would be similar to how the Xbox and PS4 revisions were mostly for allowing better performance, while not splitting the library up.

Re: Rumour: EA Working On Frostbite Engine Support For Nintendo Switch

Regpuppy

@Jeronan While they may not not be as bad. They still dip into aggressive monetization, up to and including lootboxes. They just don't do it in as many of their games as EA yet. So I can't just give them a free pass.

Granted, they still release some decent games, like Starlink. But they have also put in lootboxes in games lije trials rising and have gone on record defending the use of lootboxes.

Re: Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka Wants To Remake Sonic Adventure

Regpuppy

I'm still a bit doubtful of the current team Sonic's abilities. Sonic forces was the epitome of short, playsitself, gameplay I don't like about the series.

I can embrace the 90's buttrock, bad puns and ignore the weird community. But I need some game that's actually worth playing. If this can give me that, I'm down.

Re: Rumour: EA Working On Frostbite Engine Support For Nintendo Switch

Regpuppy

@kobashi100 That's assuming we've all been giving Ubisoft and Activision a free pass. I haven't, I've been avoiding most of their games too. But even though I dislike them overall. They have provided games that weren't aggressively monetized or picked apart for DLC, and that I want. So I support that with my money.

I got Rayman, Mario and Rabbits, and N-sane trilogy because they were full games, without microtransactions. If EA gives me the same, I'll buy it. But I have my doubts about what they'll bring over.

Re: Rumour: EA Working On Frostbite Engine Support For Nintendo Switch

Regpuppy

@Velocirapstar This highly depends on what exactly they bring over, and is highly subjective. Will EA's support help Nintendo's bottom line? Yeah, probably. Will it be what us commenters want, proabably not, for the most part.

Are we hypocrites for wanting 3rd party support, but shunning EA? Not really, considering we're often ecstatic about big name ports and releases on the Switch. The problem is that EA doesn't like giving you an actual full game, without aggressive monetization, anymore.

I mean, I wouldn't mind some of their back-catalogue. But I doubt that's what we'd be getting. What we'd probably be getting are their heavily monetized shooters and sports games, with lootbox mechanics that may be classed as gambling in the near future. So excuse some of us for being incredulous.

Re: Feature: Things We Wish Nintendo Would Do In 2019

Regpuppy

The only thing I kind of want is a revision with more internal storage, better load times, and/or better performance. Just enough to go from variable resolution in Splatoon 2 to a stable 1080p, or at least some higher frame rates. At the very least, improving load times in some games would be amazing.

That being said, I wouldn't mind a few surprise ip revivals.

Re: Feature: Reader's Choice Game Of The Year 2018 Results

Regpuppy

@Kainbrightside I think the main Pokemon will be a system seller. I'm unsure this one had the same effect, even though it posted some decent sales numbers. Especially in Japan, where it recieved lower sales than you'd expect for a mainline Pokemon game, not even considering the fact it's the first one on a home console.

Granted, Nintendo kind of hamstringed it by releasing Smash so close to it. But a lot of the core Pokemon group had lukewarm feelings towards it.

Re: Grasshopper Manufacture Shares Another Mini-Game Trailer For Travis Strikes Again

Regpuppy

The only thing to say at this point is that I think the game looks ok. Not amazing, but it looks like something I'll eventually get. But when I get it is going to depend on what we have coming in 2019 and how quickly I can clear my winter backlog.

If the first quarter has Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, or Daemon X Machina, it will have to wait. Especially since I'm still picking up titles I missed, and that happen to be on sale. Lol

Re: Nintendo Support Webpage Suggests Mii Fighter Costume DLC Is Returning To Smash Bros. Ultimate

Regpuppy

I can't say I care enough about the mii's to buy costumes for them. I think this should definitely be left as a sweetener for the fighter pass as well.

That being said, I would probably pay for more costumes of virtually any other character. Most of all Fox, Falco, Wolf, Piranha Plant, and who every I finally decide will be my squad strike 5th. Probably a heavy like K Rool, or one of the mysterious dlc characters.

Re: Feature: The Final Wii U Games We'd Like To See On Switch In 2019

Regpuppy

I skipped the Wii U and sort of burned out during the mid to late Wii days. So while I don't think any of these are necessary anymore. I do think they would make for good filler during the slower months. Especially since the Switch has already passed the Wii U's lifetime sales. So we're definitely getting a lot of people who never touched the Wii U coming in.

The ones I think would do the best would probably be Mario Maker, any of the Zelda games, any of the Mario games, and Pikmin. I personally wouldn't mind Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and so on. Too many to list.

But if I had to wish for something really hard, it would be a Star Fox Zero port, with a more traditional control scheme. A friend got me to play it, and while it didn't necessarily make it unplayable. It didn't really do much to make my experience with the game that great.

I'm a hardcore Starfox fan, and I'd welcome a passable Starfox game at any point. The last time it feels like I got that was Starfox Assault, and that one was far from perfect. So I'm really hungry for a decent one.

Re: Guide: New Nintendo Switch Games Releasing in 2019

Regpuppy

First day purchase? Not many of these, mostly because I'm actually making good progress through my backlog for once. I'm honestly hoping the big hitters (LM, AC, DXM) wait until I have time to clear out the rest of it first. Already spending a lot of time on Smash, in-between 1-2 hour stints on other games. Then I have to grab the games I missed, or whos price finally dropped. Lol

Re: Video: More Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Glitches Than You Can Shake A Switch At

Regpuppy

@TheFanatic The worst thing about that is how cheap canvas bags are in bulk. Literally less than 2 USD per bag, in the quantities they're talking about. Which shouldn't be a problem, for a 200 USD collectors edition. But they cheaped out even harder on the bags, going for nylon which costs almost nothing, looks like garbage, and rips the moment you actually put something into it.

Re: Suda51 Would "Love" To Bring Killer7 To Switch, But It's All Up To Capcom

Regpuppy

@CharlieSmile Just like the big console publishers. Big third party publishers do different deals with different people. Shantae didn't sign over the rights of any of their games to Capcom for their publishing deal.

But it sounds like Suda have signed a publishing deal with Capcom that might have included exclusivity or full/partial ownership. Likely in return for funding, and/or promotion.

Re: Nintendo Had Some Of The Most Talked About Games On Twitter In 2018

Regpuppy

@Anti-Matter I'm starting to think this is a case of a language barrier here. Because introvert just means you avoid social situations. It has very little to do with the concept of popularity. I myself am introverted, to an extreme point, due to an anxiety disorder. Popularity is hardly on my mind when I start to like a game.

When someone actively avoids popular things, purely because they're popular. That's what we call a hipster, which is arguably the worst kind of contrarian.

Re: Nintendo Had Some Of The Most Talked About Games On Twitter In 2018

Regpuppy

@Kimyonaakuma This is a healthy adult attitude to take. As I mention later, going too far in either direction leads to your tastes being dictated by others. It's not a healthy way to live.

@Anti-Matter Avoiding things based purely on popularity is just as bad as only enjoying things because they're popular. It makes you a hipster, which is arguably just as bad as someone who sticks to the mainstream. The reason you might not have friends might be how insufferable this attitude can be.

Also, you end up missing out on a lot of quality games that way, for stupid reasons. Not to mention you, ironically, let the mainstream define your tastes anyway. So you're just as susceptible to it as most people. I'd argue even more So, since you're actively avoiding popular things. Most people don't do that, they just don't dig that deep to find obscure gems.

But I guess it's not really my problem, so I'll leave it at that.

Re: New 'Life Is Destroy' Trailer Showcases Another Game In Travis Strikes Again

Regpuppy

I'm still pretty lukewarm on this game. I just don't have enough info on it to base a decision yet. I need an idea of the other minigames, and exactly how prominent these minigames are in this game.

Because, if there are enough of these minigames to make up the bulk of the experience, and it's not just that hack-n-slash gameplay we saw for 90% of the game. I can see myself enjoying this enough for the 40 dollar pricetag.

But if this is mostly just the hack-n-slash, it might be something I buy much later down the road for 15-20 bucks second-hand.

Re: Feature: Digital vs Physical - What Is Your Preference for Nintendo Switch?

Regpuppy

@olrodlegacy Exactly this! Unless I feel something is absolutely too unlikely to recieve a physical version, I hold off on it. Which is why I often wait for years before getting a digital-only games.

Well, that, and there are so many physical games to get still. Just from physical games, I fit into the 31+ games, and that's just from getting into the Switch a year late, focusing on titles I like a lot. I still have a lot of titles to catch up on.

Re: Video: 11 Things Nintendo Needs To Do in 2019

Regpuppy

@KryptoniteKrunch A lot of us want a Switch Pro for better performance on current and future games. Similar to how the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have iterations that offer higher performance or graphical fidelity. A lot of current games could benefit from this, as they already utilize variable resolution, and framerate, to keep things running smooth.

A Switch Pro would likely be able to stay on the higher end, or even lock it to the max resolution/framerate, we currently have. They could also add more internal storage and, potentially, decrease load times with a hardware revision. Not to mention, removing the black bars, and increasing screen size for handheld play. This would all be an improvement, without necessarily causing compatibility issues.

I know I'd personally buy another Switch if two or more of these improvements were made.

Re: Random: UPS Delivery Driver Caught Stealing Nintendo Switch Pro Controller On Video

Regpuppy

@Heavyarms55 I was mentioning it from my own experience with a local post office. They apparently had two guys hoarding a bunch of Amazon packages from a few people... Apparently they caught on to how often I buy videogame related items and kept hoarding mine as well. The shipping box of some of them was flat out cut open, so it's no wonder how they found out.

Had to cause a fuss and ended up getting some of these "damaged" packages, even though i had gotten replacements. Amazon couldn't be bothered with the return shipping, so I ended up with some doubles I ended up gifting to people. Lol

Re: Video: 11 Things Nintendo Needs To Do in 2019

Regpuppy

I just want more first party games. That's the biggest reason a lot of us buy Nintendo systems still. Though, I don't mind the third party exclusives, like Octopath Traveler, or ports like the Final fantasy games. But the meat of the system is their first party games, and they still have a lot of ips that don't have a game on Switch yet.

The game I want most of all, but have given up hope for is a proper Star Fox game, and maybe a good F-zero game. But a solid mainline Pokemon game, and Animal crossing will be good enough. I really hope Gamefreak takes advantage of the massive hardware jump. That game needs to be good for the 2019 holiday season.

As a side not, more of the Mario slorts games wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't mind a Super Mario Strikers or Mario baseball game, at any point in the future.

DLC for current first party games would be nice as well. Especially for MK8, if we're not getting a MK9 anytime soon. That is still consistently one of my top played games for couch multiplayer. Super Mario Party could always use more content as well, as I think they spread themselves thin across multiple game modes this time.

The thing I don't understand is why they axed VC as it was. I'd kill for a lot of their first party N64 games on the Switch. Starfox 64, Mario Party 1-3, Smash 64, Pokemon Stadium 1-2, Super Mario 64, etc. Tons of good games I'd buy, or would at least enjoy on the online service.

That being said, I'd settle for some SNES games. While I enjoy the NES, the SNES is where games truly started getting good. I'd also like Starfox 2 on my switch and not the SNES mini I don't feel like fumbling with. As a collector, I like the mini classic systems. But as a gamer who already has multiple systems, and associated wiring, cluttering my gaming set-up. I would rather things be simplified down. Lol

Re: Mario Kart Arcade GP DX Adds Lakitu To The Race Lineup

Regpuppy

One thing to note is that these are Bandai Namco's thing, and are not quite the same as the main series. This is why you see random Namco characters in them.

I also imagine these come with an exclusivity deal for Namco's arcade cabinets. (They're still a big thing in Japan)

Re: Nintendo's Holiday Television Advertising Promotes Pokémon: Let’s Go

Regpuppy

@jockmahon I've completed the game, which doesn't say much because I'm a completionist. It's hard to say it's a "bad" game, because I save that for things like Fallout 76 and Hello Kitty Kruisers. But it's not great, especially not for $59.99, or whatever the £ equivalent.

It's neat to encounter Pokemon in the overworld, and to have Pokemon following you again. It's also nice, as an old school fan, to see Kanto in 3D. But once the nostalgia wore off, there wasn't much left to make things interesting. It doesn't help thst they needlessly gimped PvP mechanics and didn't help post-game content that was worth anything. Also, the catching mechanic really got annoying an hour in.

I mean, I get it, they're trying to market it to Go players. But I really hope they don't go this route with the main games. Just from a value perspective, because the content in this game was sparse. I had my gripes about X/Y, Sun/Moon, and OR/AS. But they were 20 dollars less and I felt like I got enough content to justify the price.
