Re: UK Charts: A Slow Week At Retail Sees Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Race Back To Third Place

Regpuppy

@1UP_MARIO @justin233 Unfortunately, with MK8DX selling as well as it does, I don't think Nintendo is in a rush to push out a new one. This is why I'm looking forward to Team Sonic Racing, and Crash Team racing. Even if they're overall only decent, they still scratch that similar itch.

That being said, I'd gladly welcome DLC for MK8. A few new tracks would do wonders.

Re: Zombie Night Terror Gets Physical Release On Switch, Pre-Orders Open Tomorrow

Regpuppy

@RupeeClock Honestly, in their early days, I could have said the same thing about the three companies you mentioned as well. In the end, they're essentially just small scale publishers, that are taking advantage of the niche market that our digital-only future is leaving behind.

As long as what they're doing is legal, I welcome anyone helping keep physical media alive. Even if they're not being particularly creative with their branding.

Re: Zombie Night Terror Gets Physical Release On Switch, Pre-Orders Open Tomorrow

Regpuppy

@RupeeClock People see a niche not being filled, and they're rushing to fill it. Regardless of our slide into digital gaming, there are still plenty of collectors who prefer physical, and these small but popular indie games present an opportunity to get in on that market.

The whole numbering trend among them, as well as other physical goodies, is specifically targeted towards the hardcore collectors.

Re: Twitch Plays Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Regpuppy

@ShadJV Yeah, the boss fights especially will be a problem. For a regular person, it's just reading a pattern. But a crowd of people doing that together, with 7+ second delay, it just seems virtually impossible. At least in any realistic timeframe.

Re: Twitch Plays Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Regpuppy

@ShadJV whoops, didn't catch the second quote. Saw the ad before it and I kind of swiped down at that point. Color me amazed then. Still a far cry from beating it. But it's much further than I expected.

Re: Square Enix Opens Octopath Traveler Smartphone Demo Applications In Japan

Regpuppy

@Rhaoulos I'm pretty sure this has more to do with some sort of legal hangup we're just not privy to, rather than localization. Potentially some regulations or overhead that slows things down.

I mean, that's the only logical hold-up I can think of right now. Because we all know that the difference between the two at this point is a few u's and some word uses both sides are familiar with, thanks to how often we see each other's media.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Is Getting A Gorgeous Limited Edition In Japan

Regpuppy

@RickD Honestly, I'd kind of agree that Fire Emblem isn't a huge mover of units, at least on its own. But I'm sure there are enough Fire Emblem fans, and general collectors of consoles/Nintendo merchandise that these will probably be impossible to find a month or two down the road.

Fire Emblem isn't as big as Pokemon, Mario, or even Animal crossing. But it's still pretty big. Arguably bigger than Xenoblade, and we got a LE pro controller for that.

Re: Devil May Cry 5 Will Be Considered For Switch If Dragon's Dogma Sells Enough

Regpuppy

@CaPPa Now that you bring up RE2. That is one situation where it makes sense. If they said "If our current RE games do well on the Switch. We might bring over RE2" it would make a little more sense. Granted, these are still ports of old games people may not want to buy for the second+ time. But at least they're related. Hardcore fans of Resident Evil would probably buy them anyways as well.

But two unrelated ips, with entirely different kinds of gameplay focus? Oof... Dragon's Dogma is more like Skyrim or BOTW than it is DMC, and DMC is more like Bayonetta. If they looked at anything, Platinum's typical action game is a better indicator.

Re: Devil May Cry 5 Will Be Considered For Switch If Dragon's Dogma Sells Enough

Regpuppy

It would make some sense, if the games shared more than just the action genre. This would be like Nintendo holding a Starfox game hostage, and seeing if we bought Splatoon. I mean, they're both technically shooters, but what do they have to do with each other? It's absurd.

As a note, I was just using both Starfox and Splatoon as examples. I buy both regardless of what's being held hostage.

Re: New Nintendo Labo Kit Introduces VR Gaming On Switch This April

Regpuppy

This, even more than the other Labo, seems like something that you try once and shelve. The low resolution and framerate means this will either make you sick, or give you a mean headache, if you use it for longer than a few minutes.

I mean, I'm excited for Nintendo to try VR. But this isn't how they should go about it, I think.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Ditch Physical Media With A 'Switch Lite?'

Regpuppy

The moment consoles go all digital is the moment I stop bothering with new consoles. Because, for me, I like being able to own my games and play them after the servers shut down.

The only time I'd even consider digital is if they were Steam sale prices. Because that's about what I'd value what is essentially a game rental for an indeterminate amount of time.

Re: Fancy A New RTS With Dinosaurs Thrown Into The Mix? Warparty Hits Switch This Month

Regpuppy

@HarryHyruleHero Clash of Clans is just Strategy, not RTS. The actual battles might look like RTS, but they're way too simple and hands off for it to be classified as an RTS. As the name Real Time Strategy implies, there needs to be an involved real time battle system.

If you want a good example of RTS, specifically, like the game in this article. Look up Halo Wars, Command and Conquer (not the mobile game), or Starcraft. Generally, RTS is a genre that tends to be better suited for PC. Though Halo Wars and the old Command & Conquer games did fairly well on console.

Re: Guide: The Best Value amiibo For Your Nintendo Switch

Regpuppy

@RadioHedgeFund Yup, it's difficult to even find freshly released amiibo, if you don't manage to snag one in the first few days in a lot of areas. In my area, you have to basically make friends with a store manager and figure out when they get amiibo in stock. Then immediately go and get them, before some scalper goes out and buys the 10 amiibo that came in.

I understand they don't want to oversaturate the market, like Skylanders kind of did. But it makes it frustrating for fans. I have more trouble finding an amiibo I want, for a fair price, a few days after release than I do with most Limited Edition versions of games, after a month. It's insane.

Re: Rumour: Looks Like Xbox Game Pass Might Not Be Coming To Switch After All

Regpuppy

Whether or not people should take this guy at his word. Nothing for the initial rumor is concrete either, so people should be prepared for it to be fake as well. A lot of it is based vague rumors, generous interpretations of people's tweets, and the fact that multiple people are saying similar things.

This is not the first time something like this has happened, and turned up false. So people might want to calm down a bit before they start putting the Master Chief collection on their Switch Christmas lists.

Re: Sobble Voted Favourite Sword And Shield Starter Pokémon In Japanese Poll

Regpuppy

I'm desperately hoping the final evos of these Pokemon are better. I'm not really a fan of any of the base forms. Just in case, here's hoping they put at least a few cool new Pokemon in the early areas, where I can get them early enough to matter. I'm tired of having to play 2/3 of the game before they start popping up, and I have my team already set up. Also hoping they up the variety that can be found.

Re: Microsoft Eager To "Bring Game Pass To Any Device" People Want To Play On

Regpuppy

I'm getting a weird feeling here. Similar to the one I got when the Grinch leak was bumping around the Smash community. Everyone started getting hyped for a leak that was "totally confirmed" and "couldn't be fake". We still have Smash players that are salty about it, because that let them hope for way too many characters, or that one character they absolutely wanted.

I'm hoping we're not having a repeat of that here, because we're pretty much hanging everything on someone's word, and some vague statements by Microsoft reps.

Re: Feature: What Developers Really Think Of The Nintendo Switch eShop

Regpuppy

I definitely think Nintendo should take a look at what some competitors are doing with their digital storefronts. Steam, specifically, is a good one with a lot of useful features to borrow. Features that were made for a platform with an even bigger library than the Switch Eshop.

I mean, even something like Steam's personalized recommendations would do wonders on its own. I also wouldn't mind the review system they briefly added and removed either.

Re: Random: Soulja Boy Raps About Zelda, Doesn't Know What A Rupee Is

Regpuppy

"How do you do, fellow gamers. I'm totally a Nintendo fan, and not just desperately trying to be relevant again."

I find his antics hilarious, at this point. He's woefully out of touch, and has no idea about the group he's trying to reach. It's like when you see old politicians trying to use memes incorrectly.

That being said, this doesn't excuse the random racial comments brought up because this formerly famous individual happens to be an idiot. We hate it when us gamers are generalized for our hobby. So don't be a hypocrite and judge someone based on some random immutable physical trait.

Re: Random: Multiple Nintendo Characters Appear In Mixer Banner On Xbox One Dashboard

Regpuppy

It's just a streaming service that happens to be run by Microsoft. One that can't really afford to stop PS4 or Switch games from being streamed on it, unless they wanted to give those views away to twitch/YouTube. Microsoft is obviously trying to be a proper competitor to Twitch. So it would be silly to restrict so much.

So, whether or not the gamepass rumor plays out the way that our "leakers" say it will, this is probably unrelated. Don't go crazy and start imagining 1st party Nintendo games on Xbox.

Re: Kill la Kill: IF Will "Be The Same Across All Regions"

Regpuppy

I have to wonder, with that wording. One thing a lot of Japanese devs have been doing is self-censoring at the source. So statements like this can be technically correct, in that we get the same version as Japan. But the end product was censored during development regardless, to fit with western sensibilities.

Not that I think this is happening here, because Kill La Kill really isn't that bad to begin with. It's just something to think about. I don't particularly care for censorship, even if it means defending fanservice in trashy waifu-simulators. Because it can often be used to restrict other, worthwhile, mature themes.

Re: Random: Nintendo Jumps On The ASMR Bandwagon With The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Regpuppy

@CarpeDiem Brains are weird, complex things. I definitely know the positive things people get out of it, because I get it out of things like the clicking of gears or scribbling on a notepad. So i ubderstand why people listen to all these videos.

But there's definitely a dark side for me, because all of those ones with whispering give me a similar but negative version of that.

Re: Detective Pikachu Concept Artist Draws Realistic Sobble From Pokémon Sword And Shield

Regpuppy

The problem I have with some of their stuff is that in trying to be realistic, he's done stuff that makes them nearly unrecognizable. I'm not on board with the purists that don't think Pikachu or Jigglypuff should have fur. But they basically turned Onyx/Steelix into some sort of basilisk, rather than a pseudo-magical creature made of segmented stone/metal with a magnet in its brain.

Re: Random: Nintendo Jumps On The ASMR Bandwagon With The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Regpuppy

@CarpeDiem I think one big thing that gives ASMR the bad press among a lot of people is the fact that there are a lot of borderline camgirls on Twitch, and YouTube, doing ASMR. Usually saying suggestive things, or making lewd noises.

There's also the fact that some of us that are receptive to it, can often get the opposite effect. For whatever reason, a lot of ASMR videos give me a deep, anxious, uncomfortable feeling. Less like relaxing tingles, and more like mild anxiety.

Specifically, for me, the whisper and mouth sounds I absolutely hate with a passion. But I'm fine with most music, or inanimate object noises, though. For awhile I had a bad view on ASMR because of the weird videos made by some following the trend.

Re: Hori USA Drops The Price Of Its D-Pad Joy-Con Controller

Regpuppy

@Realnoize Joycons are 80 USD for me, assuming they're not on sale. This controller is 20 USD. So it's really not worth it, based on price. Especially since I often see joycon on sale for 69 USD.

The only thing holding this up is the D-pad, which I personally don't see as worth it, on its own. Especially since it is purely for handheld. For docked mode, I already had 8bitdo, Gamecube controllers, and other things with better retro setups.

Re: Hori USA Drops The Price Of Its D-Pad Joy-Con Controller

Regpuppy

@link3710 Then what's the point of getting this one when I can just buy two new joycons? 20 dollars more and I can have two fully functioning joycon, just without the classic D-pad. Also, there isn't a joycon that matches up perfectly with the blue they used.

@Moonlessky Ah, thanks, I wasn't following news on that.

Re: Poll Confirms That Sobble Is The Most Popular Pokémon Sword And Shield Starter

Regpuppy

@link3710 Honestly, I think the split is because none of these designs are particularly good. So there's not much room for a clear winner. Lol

No, but seriously. I'm hoping their final forms redeem some of them. Because that's ultimately who we'll be looking at the most. I also hope they have a somewhat unique typing as well. I really don't want another Fire/Fighting starter.

Re: Gallery: A Complete Breakdown Of The Pokémon Sword And Shield Trailer

Regpuppy

If I have to pick a starter, not knowing its evolutions, I'd pick Scorbunny. Which fits in with my overall trend towards the fire starter for most generations. The only two exceptions being Rowlet and Totodile.

That being said, this is one of those generations where I don't feel strongly about any of the starters. I'm hoping they redeem themselves with their evolutions.
